The movie Misbehavior brought me here. I'm surprised the disruption wasn't edited out. It's definitely a movie that's a good eye opener about these pageants. I recommend it.

She walks, climbed and descended that stage with ease. It's very evident that she's a model.
All because of RACISM. South Africa committed crimes against humanity for 46 years and was rightfully condemned. It’s a shame the southern US didn’t have the same for its Jim Crow laws.
After coming across the movie "Misbehavior," I too searched for the 1970 "Miss World." Prior to the movie, I had not known anything about the 'contest' or the (needful, obviously) protest(s). Protesting and disrupting took courage, boldness, planning, and a lot of intelligence on the part of those who carried it out; they (Sally Alexander & the others) truly served society by doing that, as it led to awareness and a lot of evolution in thinking, speaking, and behaviors, which continue to evolve over time. Thank You to all of those early (and current & future) Trail Blazers. ⭐
This year was controversial because it revealed the ranking system of Miss World being open to manipulation and interpretation. At Miss Universe, who ever gets the lowest score ( most#1 and higher ranking votes) wins. Here at MW, Miss Sweden got 4 #1 votes from 8 Judges and yet she only came in 4. To his day I have yet to understand how the system worked despite Eric Morley blabbing about how Grenada won over Sweden because the other 5 judges ranked her higher. Sweden would’ve at least be first runner-up.
@Christian Zoller Actually, Eva Rueber-Staier started in Miss Universe 1969 in Miami, USA on July 19 before crossing over to Miss World in London on November 27 and won that. The sixth Miss World crossover to win Miss Universe after those five is Mexico's Andrea Meza in Miss Universe 2020 after being first runner-up in Miss World 2017.
They have a peculiar, almost constipated walk some of these ladies in the swimsuit section. I expect they were taught to walk like that. Miss Grenada absolutely nailed that most uncomfortable of walks, Miss Israel and Miss South Africa were completely at home in a swimsuit too. But boy oh boy the waist on Miss USA! Just 22 inches.
They were supposed to walk like they were gliding on stage, you know the days when they trained models to walk with them balancing books on their heads.
At that time apartheid still existed in South Africa and up until then had only entered white girls into the competition. However there started to be complaints about how unfair this was, so the organisers quickly found a black contestant. What to call her? They came up with Miss Africa South.
The 1960s so restrained (except the daft updos) and with dignity, then 1970...OMG the outfits, the unflattering photos, the guys singing in their ruffled shirts and brown suits. If you just saw the photos, you'd never guess these women were beauty queens with the exception of Miss Hong Kong, Miss Mauritius,Miss Thailand , Miss Turkey and Miss USA who somehow managed to defeat the photographer and look good in their photos.
Se que Julia es la organizadora, pero realmente debería de coronar a la nueva reina la reina saliente, son concursos donde las pobres chicas no ven que las explotan.
so there rumour that after the flour bombs bore hope ran away from the stage and Julia Morley had to grab his feet n beg him to return to the show is a myth n never happened
Hope fled the stage when a flour bomb was thrown at him and Eric Morley took his place on stage addressing the audience as security tried to bring order and arrest the protesters. Julia Morley stopped Hope before he ran to her dressing room. With the situation under control, which lasted about a minute and a half, Bob Hope returned to the stage at Morley's request and said that this had served as training for his trip to Vietnam.
Miss Yugoslavia 1970 was characterized because she was a very distracted girl, it is believed that she did not go to the Top 7 for this reason, but the girl was extremely beautiful!
@@UniversalCrowns Heh, I just read up about the judging. 20:40 It's a fix! :D. Julia Morley stepped down because of the furor, only taking up her role again when husband Eric put on display all the voting cards, proving Miss Grenada was the bona fide winner over a favourite, Miss Sweden. See the reason for this - a person answered it for someone else's question. And see the movie "Misbehavior," and you will understand why South Africa agreed to send a Black person (finally) in 1970...

Ditto that, as you see from my note above! As of today i've learned a lot, indeed.
Jeniffer Hosten the first black woman to be crowned miss World, a true Queen
And Pearl Jansen as runner up Ms Africa South

There are beauty pageants for men, and they’re not that different.
