Hey what's up bro!? I messaged you about 5 years ago. I think it was in 2019. After watching all your videos many times, I went back to the states (Alabama) and signed up for the 3 day classes. I took the MSF course online first, took the certificate to the dealership and then we took the riders training in the Alabama heat in July. Well, it's been fun operating my 2003 motorcycle (rebuilt/customized) for the past four years. I owe you a lot of props for helping me out with your videos. I started late in riding, but at 77 years old retired US Marine I am having a great time here in the Philippines. Take care and stay safe.

+Mr. Savage just to show our instructor that we were in neutral. Glad you liked it! I've got 4 or 5 more videos on the course if you want to check them out. As far as what to wear, I literally wore jeans, a long sleeve tshirt, shoes that go over the ankle (motorcycle boots aren't required, just plain old cowboy type boots is what I wore. @yessure5291 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    at 5:40 I disagree.
Number one is: Can the person ride a bicycle?
You need that balance skill first.
Next you need to know how to stop a motorcycle BEFORE you get the ignition key.
You NEVER start off a first time person like that. You get them on a 250 cc small bike. You DO NOT start the engine EVER - hide the key.
You need at least 2 people. The new rider after being shown and understand every part and item on the motorcycle - they sit on the motorcycle with 2 feet down always.
The second person is behind and pushes in a straight line. So when the new rider is ready they yell "go" and the person behind pushes....when the motorcycle is rolling straight ahead the person behind yells "stop". The new rider stops the motorcycle with the rear brake only. You do this over and over maybe 25 times.
Then next you do the same but instead part 2 is use the front brake only each time. Maybe 25 times.
Then part 3 is using both brakes equally maybe 25 times.
A new person is not allowed to start the engine until they know how to stop. And be very comfortable at stopping smoothly. If that is all you do on your first day that is great. With no engine. So they have had the experience of stopping a motorcycle at least 75 times or more with no engine.
There are hundreds of videos on TH-cam of "fails" of new riders getting on ... starting the engine and the motorcycle races into a fence or wall or something and the person has no clue how to stop the machine.
If you can't stop a motorcycle with both brakes in a proficient smooth manner you are not allowed to start the engine.
And two feet down for every stop and two feet up at the same time as soon as the person starts to push. The same when the engine is running some day. I have seen beginners fall over trying to use one leg or the other. One foot means the bike is tilted and unstable.
That is how new riders crash.
They must learn to stop in a controllable manner first. New riders should never be put into 'panic' first day situations.
Part 2 ...with no engine.... the new rider walks the motorcycle around in small figure eights for about 10 minutes to get used to the feel of it and the steering input and how it leans a bit to turn. And NO the engine is still not running.
Part 3...... to be continued is a total orientation of every part of the motorcycle especially the functional items. And how to do a pre-start inspection of a motorcycle.
Part 4 …. your mindset. Are you really ready to ride every time? In a good mood, not hungover, had enough sleep, feel fully alert, not in a hurry, not worried or upset about anything, are you not prepared for the days weather? Did you forget to have all the right riding clothes on?
If any of those apply. Leave it in the garage and take the bus.

    • @TexasMoto
      @TexasMoto  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Well thats certainly another way to do it lol. I agree, knowing how to stop is a handy piece of information. However, all of those videos of people riding into fences are cases where the person has NO idea how to work the clutch and throttle. So they give it a lot of gas and dump the clutch and off they go into a fence. Clutch control is key. More so than braking imo.

    • @yessure5291
      @yessure5291 6 ปีที่แล้ว

This is information I have saved regarding learning to stop the motorcycle first with no engine running.
Clutch control is secondary later on after breaking skills are accomplished.............
From Mark Wing From the Motorcycle Safety Foundation wrote on August 10 / 2015:
Regarding your curiosity about the MSF Basic Rider Course skill sequence, proper brake operation, as well as engine-off experiences with brake application with the motorcycle in motion, do in fact precede applying power with the friction zone.
(note: brake operation is taught first according to the MSF)
With four decades of development history the MSF curriculum has been thoroughly vetted as a low-risk and effective training experience for novice riders.
I appreciate your concern about the potential misinformation available on You Tube. Fortunately, there is an opportunity for viewers of TH-cam videos to make comments and point out inaccurate information.
It has been MSF's stance that a person's best "first ride" is an MSF Basic Rider Course. There is no video substitute for hands-on training and the feedback a novice can receive from an experienced Rider Coach.
Look here: www.humber.ca/motorcycle/ Canada's biggest motorcycle school and just as big as any new rider school in the United States with about 80 to 110 new riders every weekend.
What is line 1? “Use one of our motorcycles on the “Learn to Ride”course. Learn how to balance, stop, move off under power,
      1) balance 2) → Stop ← 3) move off under power.
      Look here: www.humber.ca/motorcycle/courses/learn-ride-motorcycle-m1-m2
Line 6: Starting with the fundamentals of braking, turning and shifting and progressively you’ll build up…
See the word 'braking' is first again.
      Gearing Up: Motorcycle Training Program:
      www.ridertraining.org/gearing-up
The Canada Safety Council Motorcycle Training Program has been in operation since 1974. It is offered through a national network of provincial and local organizations, and is the only program recognized by the motorcycle industry, federal and provincial governments, insurers and private organizations across Canada.
Gearing Up - What you'll learn
      ridertraining.org/gearing-up/what-you-will-learn
Students are taken from basic skills such as balancing the motorcycle, through correct use of brakes, proper procedures for starting a motorcycle to use of the clutch ….
      Notice that braking comes first.
Here is another motorcycle safety school:
      www.ridertraining.ca/courses/riding_basics/
      “The First Day
Everyone begins at the same level, learning to walk the motorcycle and getting used to the feel of maneuvering a motorcycle around. Balance, brakes and looking ahead are learned on an unpowered moving motorcycle. There’s a bit of pushing involved here.”
      www.motorcycle.com/rider-safety/motorcycle-beginner-rider-training-91039.html
“The first few exercises involved a lot of pushing as we took turns “riding” while other students pushed us along. Under human-powered propulsion, we practiced balancing on the bikes and making low-speed turns. Just as we started to get tired of all the pushing, it was finally time to get the motors running and start riding for real.”
      (balance first with no engine)

    • @TexasMoto
      @TexasMoto  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Yes Sure Yes Sure You seem very passionate about this subject. Ill say this, there was plenty of bike "off" exercises. There was no pushing each other to practice braking but we fid not walk out on the first day, start the bike and practice clutch and friction zone. "Misinformation"... where exactly is this misinformation? In my video?

@@HardHatDIver412 I wrote that reply about 5 years ago. I save it along with numerous others and I can just paste it in as needed.
New or non riders watch TH-cam videos and think the video is accurate. So what I send is a counter point suggesting learn how to stop before you go. As per numerous motorcycle safety schools.
I can post the info from schools if you want to read their lesson 1

absolutely. If you don't perform to their liking based on their grading for each part of the final test, they'll fail you

There's this awesome new feature called "skip". Basically, you hover you mouse over the little time bar at the bottom. A small thumbnail will appear. Left click and the video jumps ahead to that point. Hope that helps!
