    These videos are just as valuable and a whole lot more useful as the promotional marketing videos. Being able to stop properly is one of the most important skills every rider can use on every ride.

    To really learn how to stop, I took the rear brake peddle off for a month. (This was in 84 when I realized I needed to really use the front brake, which is 70ish % of braking power) It was a little unnerving at first. But at the end of the month I was totally comfortable. I used a Metzler me33 Lazer front tire which 'howled' when it was dragging slightly under high braking force. You could feel this dragging force also. It let me know I was at maximum braking force just before tire lockup. The rear brake dose help.....but the front brake is what saves your life.
    I rarely ride now, but I noticed I mostly don't even use the rear brake on my 740 pound bike.
    If you don't have anti lock brakes, you better learn how to use that front brake!

    So you let off the throttle, brake with both brakes and downshift while keeping the clutch pressed until you need to go again, you don't let off the clutch unless you're in neutral or about to accelerate?

  • @shubhamL9341
    @shubhamL9341 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I think downshifting should be done without pressing clutch. That way we will put engine braking in very effectively without fishtailing. Manual front abs works awesome with this engine braking.

    Hold break lever and clutch lever in, put bike in first gear, rev bike up to 6,000 rpm, quickly release clutch while still holding the break. Enjoy!

    *I've only been riding for a few weeks now. No prior experience... No prior experience with using a clutch in cars always been automatic for me. I'm having a hard time down shifting most times I try your way my timing is off obviously and it keeps jerking me and locking up the back wheel. I've gotten to the point these past few days where I'll shift up in gears(not smoothly), and when I get close to a stop sign or light I'll just hold in the clutch all the way and click the shift lever all the way down to 1st. Is that safe to do or am I going to ruin my ninja 250?*

      I think your down shifting too fast man. If you know there’s a stop or light ahead start slowing down gradually

    I dumped a sportster at my work parking lot when I was 12 and 10 years later, I want a bike so bad but I’m afraid of screwing up stopping…

    70 percent of stopping power from front brake. thats debatable. Frame geometry has a lot to do with this. Cruisers actually have more stopping power from the rear brake. One of the reasons we didnt use front brakes on our choppers back in the day is because we knew this. I still have choppers that have no front brake and I can easily stop them in any situation.

    Would downshifting that quickly be bad for the bike?

    • @kjvbiblebelievertal7431
      @kjvbiblebelievertal7431 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not really but you could experience aggressive engine braking. It happened to me when I first started riding, I was getting ready to pull off the main street to enter a side street, I was in 3rd gear then downshifted to 2nd gear and as I approached the side street, I downshifted into 1st and the bike lunged forward quickly on the forks, that was aggressive engine braking. I found out that I downshifted into 1st way too fast for the 1st gear. That was a scary feeling. You know when you grab the front brake hard and not gradually, the bike will lunge forward onto the forks.

    Im still thinking about getting a bike but not a Harley. A Honda or Suzuki cruiser. Damn Harleys are way overrated. Been thinking about a good used Honda Goldwing or a Honda Rebel

    Make sure you write all of this down and keep it in your pocket so when you have an emergency you can pull it and reference it before you crash.

    Beautiful lady, but her stopping examples in this video aren't. Too much front-diving, making the stops very abrupt and rough.
