    Amazing work, especially your technique with the UV Projection Modifier. I do a lot of product design in Blender 3D but never added labels that way. It's a great technique that's similar to Cinema 4D.

      HEAVYPOLY I also learned from the UV modifier so thanks for that, but in this video it ended up a bit stretched, so I still think an unwrap would have been appropriate here (Max has a similar modifier that can switch to cylindrical mapping, which I don’t think Blender has).

    As a modo user(and former Foundry employee) who has recently gotten into Blender (But not the modelling, because it is awful) the config you've put together removes TONS of jank and steals some lovely ideas from modo that I naturally feel should be universal in all 3D apps. The only thing missing here for me is a nice way to select poly loops, that clicking between edges thing looks fiddly, give me L any day. Great stuff, I'll be giving your config a go!

    • @Heavypoly
      @Heavypoly  4 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @amannin1
      @amannin1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Modo is one of the most polished pieces of software I've ever used, that said, give Blender some time, go through the tutorials and it will all start to make sense. Though HEAVYPOLY's config certainly helps ease the transition.

    An excellent tutorial. thx. But I have a problem importing your hotkey set to the newest version of blender. Could you check it out see if something needs updating? Thx in advance.
    EDIT:
    ^Solved. I added the startup folder in *AppData\Roaming\Blender Foundation\Blender\2.80\scripts; put the scripts there and now it works. This way I can update daily builds without importing the setup every time.

    I guess to make the label so that it does not repeat on the back face and also so that it does not distort / warp around the sides of the bottle it would be best to do a UV unwrap right? To that the label is applied to wrap around the curve as opposed to being stretched using the projection method?

    • @Heavypoly
      @Heavypoly  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yea you could UV and compensate for warping manually. Another option is import the image as a plane and project the plane onto the surface as a sticker

      @amannin1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've been using the standard config as well, although after watching this all the way through, I really like how he has his config setup. Seems to merge some of the awesomeness from Modo's modeling tools along with some other apps that I can't quite place at the moment.

    • @dirtfriend
      @dirtfriend 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      in some ways its probably a more efficient workflow, but you run the risk of it not being supported, leaving you out in the cold. i'd stick with blender's default keymaps tbh

    Feel silly asking, but on step 1, adding the 8-sided circle, the mesh is not flat on the x/y plane, rather at some odd angle facing the camera. Is this an update to the script, or anything you've run into?

    One thing I love about Modo that is kinda hanging me up in other software is how easy it is to move polygons to other objects or into one object. All you have to do is double click on an island of polygons, ctrl X, press N for new mesh, ctrl V, and you've just separated the mesh. Putting them back together is just as easy. How would you go about doing this in Blender? Especially with your interface you created (I downloaded it a while back and really appreciate it) Thanks!

    • @Heavypoly

    Quick question. I bought your NES controller tutorial, at one point you are moving the chord around for the composition and you delete the faces and then say press "V", and you're practically drawing the tube this way. That doesn't work for me, V only brings up the view pie. It looks very useful since I came from Modo too and used to use the tube sketch tool a lot. Any idea what's going on there?

    Thanks a lot for the updated intro! I'm trying to use my own setup and have issues with the glass. The transmission doesn't show up in the viewport. Tried with a fresh install without any configs and I ran across the same issue. I know you make this with the goal that the user uses your config, but I was curious if the transmission issue was due to my setup or an option I don't know about.

    It is possible to be a 3d modeler if I can't draw?

      of course. the two are different disciplines. it's like running and swimming. if you're a good runner you probably have the cardio to be a good swimmer, but you're still doing something very different.

    hi, i tried following this tutorial but i am using a mac, and after I follow the heavypoly config to the T (even considering the image files with extra steps) it tells me that the blender application is broken and should be moved to the trash, any ideas? thank you in advance!

    is it possible to animate it? cause I think if you move the mesh, the modifiers doesnt move with it. I ask this because I would love to make it to test the soft body/cloth physics with it, but I think I wont be able :(

    Great tutorial for beginners like me.
    Could you share your hotkeys text file please ?
    it would be very convenient for beginners to have shortcuts under the eyes as you do.
    Thanks by advance
