    I wanted to see if I had any 500 mesh (less than 25 micron) size aluminum powder in the ball mill yet. So I processed some of what what was in the mill through some classification screens that I made this morning. Well I did get some 500 mesh aluminum out of it. I tested some of the 500 mesh by making some flash powder ( I wish I would have filmed that ) boy o boy did that work well!!!

    Great stuff, thanks for showing how you classified the different powders. Hadn't seen that before.

    The flash powder you made in the description what oxidizer did you use?

    not to bring up dead comment sections, but one way you could motorize the sifting is using a palm sander with no sand paper, and attach your jars to it somehow.
    Idk, I've never done this

      Pretty good idea, might work well.

    hi, nice project and cool ball-mill. do you see any damage in the pipe or is the plasic strong enough?

    • @madscientisthut
      @madscientisthut  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +hisascha Thanks! It has been running for about two months now. You can see very small lines inside of the pipe wall where the ball bearings line up. I was very surprised that the wear is not much, I was actually expecting more wear. I suppose if I were to try milling some harder material in the mill that the wear would increase.

    what were you using for the grinding media? they look and sounded like steel, if so isn't it dangerous because of a risk of sparks? love your mill.

    noob question! how do you select your mesh-is it determined by a strainer/filter or the amount of time you mill it for?

    If you were to speed the RPM up to about 40-50 or epoxy 3-4 lifting bars axially inside the jar, it would take a lot less than a month to mill. I am jealous of that mill though, looks rock solid.

      I just wanted to experiment with the aluminum powder, I was not concerned with producing a large quantity or making it faster. It certainly does work just not very fast. One of the batches I made was actually very exciting, it spontaneously combusted when I poured it out of the mill! Thanks for watching!
