    btw marbles can still spark. I would recommend getting solid brass ballbearings. Brass is the only metal in the world that is truly spark free. My suggestions for upgrades: stepless speed controller for electric motor; rpm indicator (the kind with a magnet and sensor); inoxia ball mill jars with high friction rubber strips.

    @Make & Destroy hey wich marble is the best beetween ceramic and glass ? And can BP explode in my Ball Mill ?

    • @MakeAndDestroyFireworks
      @MakeAndDestroyFireworks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you're asking this question about ball mill expl. you need to read more about ball mill media 4 example on APC pyro forum. It'll surely help you. Nether glass nor ceramic marbles are best choice, while I'm using still ceramic ones. Theoretically thay can both spark. Please read more on this topic :) Stay safe pyro, make sure you share your knowledge if you find anything useful hehe!

    • @chimpswithkicks
      @chimpswithkicks 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      bp can explode in the mill which is why you should put the mill outside and cover with heavy things (earth, sandbags) especially if you don't use the proper media. use lead as both glass and ceramic can spark.

    • @rick5078
      @rick5078 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Lead is best for size vs weight ratio, but brass is also very good and the only truly spark free metal. As long as your ball mill jar seals 100% not letting any of the bp flow out of it, and you use lead or brass, the risk of it exploding is very very minimal. another great website for pyro info is fireworking. (can't post link else comment gets deleted.)

    • @MakeAndDestroyFireworks
      @MakeAndDestroyFireworks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Right now I'm using ceramic ones, have also used glass marbles, but it's not that I recommend using them. Safest to go with is hard lead media or Alumina media, they shouldn't spark. Read more about this on APC forum, stay safe pyro.

      So far I've been using ceramic marbles and glass marbles, had no problems, I'd recommend you to avoid steel media due to higher risk of 'sparking'. Now, this will not be enough for you to know enough about your media for milling, do more research yourself on forums/Google, it's not just about getting fast answers. Stay safe.

  • @cheesebone82
    @cheesebone82 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Pretty slick! But please be careful when using those marbles in there - even though the marbles are made of glass, the swirly designs inside them have a metallic composition that absolutely can spark and ignite the contents of the canister. (This would happen most likely because the glass has chipped and/or worn through.) I'm aware of at least one pyro/hobbyist who is now missing a finger because of that!

    • @kurtilingus
      @kurtilingus 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was watching this video as a brainstorming-supplement & that was a great reminder for me to keep top of mind the potential for hazardous spark & static electricity levels when pairing grinding media with whichever material is on deck. I've read that lead is a decent choice for media for its denseness & non sparking attributes, but since I already get enough lead exposure as it is from both shooting & soldering w/60-40 a whole bunch, do you think brass is a pretty good alternative?

    • @cheesebone82
      @cheesebone82 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kurtilingus I would think (I'm not an expert here, lol) that lead grinding media in the use of milling fireworks compositions up wouldn't really result in any additional exposure so long as you're being rational and wearing gloves/PPE as you normally would when handling chemicals this fine. The makeup of grinding media is likely far less of a threat to your health than the potentials associated with inhaling the composition itself, haha...
