    Helped me start my newer 250 four stroke efi. I changed the plug, spark plug, air and oil filter, and gas in the tank. Still wouldn’t turn over.
    After using the throttle wide open technique it started! I guess it was so bad fuel in the lines. Either way, huge help!

    I always shake my head at the people who twist the throttle while trying to start their bike. On a carbed bike you just flood it and it gets harder. On FI you should never touch the gas while starting and if you have to then something is wrong. I love this channel keep making videos like this! Maybe you can make a video how to bleed brakes? Its funny because I ride a ktm 250sxf and all i have to do is click a button haha

      Dirt N Iron It's a 2009 kx85 that I got for 1000 with aftermarket steering stabilizer and and linkage and it just had the top end rebuilt and came with the old piston which had no ridges in it or anything basically perfect spare top end and very very powerful powerband. I haven't ridden it anywhere near it's full potential or top speed. Very scary powerband when starting out but I'm getting used to. Awesome bike and fits me great. You're right, you really can start riding with 1000. Very fun and very fast.

    Thanks so much for this. I rode 2 strokes all through the mid 90's and 20 years later now just bought this exact same bike. First off I was looking how to turn the gas on lololol, next not knowing what the choke nob is then once its hot and I'm stalling constantly cause I'm riding with my 12 year old on his first two stroke wondering how the fuck this bike kicks over cold as can be and kicking to death to start it hot. I'm 36 and feel like I'm 70. So much difference in these new 4 strokes I never owned an older one so this vid answered all my questions thanks so so much!

    I’ve shown so many people that just kick and kick and kick their bike like it’s a 2 stroke. When you hear a whoosh sound that’s your intake valve sucking and closing, there a little notch or click in the stroke just past that sound. That’s the piston beginning it’s compression stroke. This is where you bring it to the top and kick all the way through don’t stop, don’t have to kick hard usually just all the way. Bike started 95% of the time this way(until valves need adjusted) now if you have a manual decompression lever it won’t work. Worked on a 2006 yz450, 2013 yz250f, 2015 yz250f, 2014 rmz450, 2017 crf250 that I can think of. So yeah you don’t bring it to TDC like a 2 stroke. You have to ram the piston into the compression stroke so it will fire.

    I recently bought a 2014 YZ250F (fuel injection) in great condition, only about 12 hours on it. When I visited the original owner I asked him to have the bike cold so I can see how long/hard it takes to start it. He was able to turn it over in 3 kicks. My previous bike had an electric start so I never had to experience kicking it over. The compression seems very good, but I have a hard time kicking it over. Is there anything else I need to look over that would make turning it over harder than it should? Great videos by the way.

    • @dirtniron

      some bikes have decompression lever of the handlebars, I dont think your bike has it. Perhaps checking valve clearance would be good idea. how many kicks does it take to start ?

    • @dirtniron
      @dirtniron  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      the fuel will come out from the overflow.. you should still be able to start it just fine.. i would not recommend to lay it down on the side willingly .. sometimes you cant avoid it when you crash..

    Dirt n iron I am looking for a dirt bike I am 5 foot 5 and 14. I've never ridden anything with a clutch. I've been looking at 125cc 2 strokes and 250cc 4 strokes. What bike would you recommend

    • @dirtniron
      @dirtniron  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Austen Douglas maybe starting at 125 4 stroke won't be a bad idea. But you might also be fast learner and grow few inches in a year and you should be fine on 250 or 125 2stroke. I don't have bike preference, all main brands are good machines. If you decide to get 125 4stroke check out Yamaha ttr 125. Good luck!

      Thanks for the reply,
      The bike runs well,I can start it by kicking but it's jammed at the beginning,so I need to push really hard to release it and then I can kick it easily.

      oil change including the filter, new oiled air filter, correct air pressure, wash it nice to inspect any possible problems, maybe check the valves if the bike runs rough or doesnt want to start.. and have fun

      powerband only means the part of the RPM range that any given engine makes its most usable power. it has nothing to do with the actual engine. mainly only relevant when looking at dyno charts.
      it's mainly a 2 stroke thing. the fat looking exhaust pipe is designed to make use of sonic sound waves that bounce back to the cylinder at just the right time to keep the air/fuel charge from escaping out into the pipe unburnt. the engine runs best and makes more power when these sonic waves are doing their job perfectly. at that point in the RPM range the engine is "in its powerband".

    Another great video mate, question though I've a 2007 rmz450 the previous owner disconnected the manual decompression lever saying you don't need it, i really struggle to start the bike, have you any advice? Thanks

    • @dirtniron
      @dirtniron  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      what kind of struggle? is it hard to kick it over or it doesn't want to start ? if it doesnt want to start then check the valves clearance and then carburetor.

    • @davidbaxter8511
      @davidbaxter8511 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dirt N Iron it just doesn't want to start, it kicks fine and will start eventually, I've only been used to 2 strokes before this bike so wasn't sure i was doing it properly, I'll five your suggestion a go and hopefully will make a difference

    Thanks for the video dude ! Great stuff. I forgot that you shouldn’t use throttle on a FI bike when starting ( my manual said as well ) . I have done it a few times as I’m use to a two stroke. Could I have done damage ? Is it more of a “don’t do regularly thing”? Thanks in advance !

    • @dirtniron
      @dirtniron  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      no worries James, you dont damage anything like that. Some fuel injected bikes starts better if you crank open the throttle just a hair.
