Good tutorial for beginner riders that haven't had the experience of working a motorcycle clutch at all.... exactly the technique I've taught others. However, I believe when people are looking for tips on avoiding WT, its more in the context of when riding on the track or trail, and things get out of control because something else went wrong that instigated WT. I know I was looking for tips that may support others opinions that having good body position, covering the clutch, etc. is how WT is avoided.
Great video, that is exactly how I got my wife to learn. I taught her how to actually get the bike going with no throttle so that she was confident with the use of the clutch. I also made learn the other how to stop. That is all she practiced for a day was start and stop travel in a straight line, nothing fancy but, it really boosted her confidence and made her safe.
I've wanted to ride motorcycles and dirtbikes all my life but was always too afraid of what would happen if I stalled out or didn't get throttle and clutch control down. Of course I didn't even know all that back then, just knew I really wanted to make that dream happen. I'm so happy and excited to say that after almost 20 years I'm finally going to get to ride a dirtbike and learn off road riding! I would never have been able to get this far if it wasn't for my amazing tougher then Enduro racing husband! He's rode bikes of all kinds pretty well all his life and his methods are awesome! I came to say that your video is very helpful in teaching us newbies how to NOT die before we actually get on the trails/tracks and for those who have husbands too busy working to spend a whole day teaching us not to screw up 😅 thanks!
it helps alot to just understand how a manual transmission works in general. I drove stick shift cars for years and now watching this video gives me the confidence i could jump right on a dirtbike and know what to do!
yes really though.. whiskey throttle is all about panicking in the turns nothing about starting out this is how to take off without flipping the bike.. i have a bad case of whiskey throttle im working through where i either go too slow in a corner and tip or think im gonna tip and rev the piss out of it or im just holding on so tight i start increasing throttle while trying to slow down
I'm 36 and im looking on getting a 140 or 160 cc m2r amd my kids either a 50 cc and a 125 pitbike i rode a bike when i was like 10 I'm really nervous, ive been watching so many of these videos 😅😅😅 this video was the best one I've came across very informative, thank you very much ✌🏼
Perfect stuff! Pro drifter new to dirt bikes. I teach many how to drift and throttle/clutch transfer is key. Great to see much of the mechanics translate over. I definitely stalled my CR135 14 times and flooded the engine haha. Love the channel!!
I gotta say, whiskey throttling is fairly easy to do when you’re going over rough terrain where you need to throttle more and finesse the clutch. If you get a little too much throttle, the natural response is to grab tighter on the handles which leads to more throttle. It takes some practice which is part of the fun of a bike!
Like you said, that was my very first crash lol, wasnt funny at all, its 5 months ago now and still have Problems in some movements in my left wrist. Well, how can i improve on that one to not whisky throttle? I really dont know because my bike has enormous power (450 yz 09) and you neeeeed to hold on so you dont get thrown away on that thing, but then one little unexpected bum and here goes the W-Throttle
I bought a seized wr250f as a first bike. Long story short, three days later it is running (needs lots of stuff like a cooling system for starters). After I fixed the cam chain and cam chain guide, I tried to ride it with out a throttle. Just the bare cable to tug on lol, and since it was hard to give it gas on start I kept stalling it. Turns out if you let out the clutch at idle VERY slowly, it will not die
I just learned the cluch from my dad he let me do the cluch on his raptor 700 then I watched the vids I learned more + I got a new tc husqavarna 65 for christmas
Thanks for the video I just got a dirt bike after 30 years of not riding one and stalled it 5-7 times getting going haha Ill try this stuff out today see if it helps
Depending on your speed coming in to a corner will determine what gear to downshift too..most likely a gear down at least maybe more but I'd say the clutch work is the same your just releasing faster and equally gassing faster but I'm no expert so that's my guess lol..
Just put together my XPRO 150 and im learning this bad boy before I even hop on him. Wish me luck yall. My yamaha YZ125 was an automatic clutch I think. I dont rem holding the clutch in. That was when I was 18. I'm 35 now... so I'm a newbie all over again. Haha

@TheMxFactory thank you so much for most of your tips & tricks. I have been on & off with the dirt bike but never had the opportunity to understand the basics so much. Now your channel seem to be helping with all the ideas & soon will be matter of implementing. So do u have to use clutch if u are switching gears. Like say If I’m in 2nd can I just switch or I have to use the clutch. And if I’m stoping and I’m in 3rd do I have to hold the clutch in or just put it to 1st.
Hi I’m 13 and my clutch lever is pretty stiff for me so I use 3. Is that too much? Is there a way to make my clutch easier to pull? I’ve already lubed the cable and greased the lever.
so lets say you start out in neutral, since youre shifting up do you gotta use the clutch? if i remember in your last video i watched you stated only use cluch when shifting down? P.S youre really engaging, informative, and fun to watch. Really awesome dude.
Took my first dirt bike out last week. I'm in my late 20s and not too much of a daredevil. After riding for about 30 minutes, I thought I was good to go somewhat fast just in a straight line. After about 20 minutes of going fast, I kept pushing the limit.... until I veered off the path and went on my first jump. Flew straight into a tree, and was very glad to have my neck brace on (even though I felt a bit silly for putting it on when I got started.. lots of guys there in just jeans and helmets). I walked away with a neck injury from the whiplash, cut up pretty good, bloody nose, etc....... Before I went out, I honestly didn't think it was going to happen to me but the speed-bug bit me and away I went. It's only gonna be about a week and a half recovery, but it could have been so much worse- especially if I wasn't wearing all of my safety gear (and I did invest in every piece of safety gear). If you're just getting started, don't be an idiot like me!!! If the branches had been more stout, I could've been impaled right in the gut. If I hadn't been wearing my neck brace, chest protector, and helmet, I would've walked away with much more severe injuries. Wear all your gear and respect the bike....
Similar thing happened to me when I was 14 had taken my dirt bike out a few times started doing some small jumps built up the confidence for a bigger jump with a gap between and let off the throttle last minute, ended up clipping the landing on the front wheel and flipping the bike a few times, concussion, bruised ribs and broken fingers, it wasnt fun but a cool story to tell now lol
What I do with the front brake (i have auto clutch) is all my fingers are not moved then when I need to brake i pull out my fingers to grip the lever then brake I put them back when I want
i whiskey throttle when I try to lift the front wheel for a pivot turn or for an obstacle, or slow wheelie. I can't seem to help it. She wants to get away from me. Riding a 300cc with a 50T so the torque is not forgiving. any tips?

You help me out so much I’m some to you and I watch a lot of your videos and you help me a lot and I was going to be good At dirtbike in one day and you have all the credit to it great job and thank you
I’ve personally gone 100 hours, it really depends on how it’s been ridden. Low speeds on trails and it’ll last longer, high speeds wide open on sandy moto tracks and they’ll go quicker.
Are older bikes as consistent as newer ones are? I have an 87' Honda XR600R and when trying to take off if i barely give it any throttle it almost always stalls
One thing i was wondering is do i have to pull the clutch in fully when shifting? I often pull the lever all the way in because it feels more secure, and i want to know if i dont have to. I ask this because when i operate the clutch with 1 or 2 fingers, the lever can only pull in about half way before my fingers on the handlebar stop it from going in any further, and i feel diffident when i shift that way, since i keep thinking im gonna get a false neutral and/or damage the clutch.
Blue plastics! How do I win!! This video was great, I’ve been learning to ride my new Honda CRF 125 big wheel but by myself! Wish I’d watched these videos before all my wipeouts & bruises!
Man I went from like a 2015 4 stroke to a 2 stroke and I’m not use to only pushing the shifter a little to change. Any tips on how to get better. I went from 1st to what 5th trying to get the 2nd
Is is right to use the clutch in tight turns, my local tracks are sandy and get rutted and have a few tight turns that im struggling with i can manage fine in the field at home turning around posts but when its rutted like that its much harder. I got told not to use the clutch and brake as it skids too much but sometimes im a bit heavy footed and stall the bike. Any tips ?
Practice as much as you can without the clutch, but it’s perfectly fine to use it to prevent stalling a bike in tight corners. Just be smooth on the release when exiting the corner.
Hi. Thanks for this information..can you tell me please, when can I find like this bike for sale ??there is sites to sale or something ??and how much ??
I think it's worth mentioning that in some states if you don't have 4 fingers on the throttle while using it, you could potentially fail the driving test.

Yes! Great work on taking it slow. So important to avoid unnecessary crashes
I found the fake stalls kinda funny. The most helpful tip to me was the relocation of the lever to increase leverage.
