Regular gas 25mpg it’s a win for these midsize truck..
Not bad. I ordered my Tacoma a few days ago, now it’s the wait 😐

Great video! I am glad you showed what you can get with driving conservatively.
Test drove a 2024 trd off-road today calling to get one ordered tomorrow
Awesome! Your going to love it
How long is your wait time do you know, I want to do same
I'm not surprised my wife's Lexus with 2.0L turbo gets 30 MPG no problem, and has lots of power!
Wow!!!!. Toyota is killing it!
I'm getting about 24 mpg with my 2024 Tacoma 6 speed manual. TRD Sport 4x4 - that's what the truck says - I didn't run the numbers.
Great job. I heard from several sources that Eco mode won't help (some say it's even worse). Also kudos for using 87 octane. That 85 octane as "regular" in your part of the country is a crock and they need to get rid of that. To those who might defend it, know that it is NOT the same at 87 in a modern, fuel injected, computer controlled engine in your climate/altitude. That only applied to carburetor days and it's going to hurt your vehicle in the long run and possibly even void your warranty.
That's really impressive!!!
I did a 1300 mile road trip from 5/8/24 - 5/12/24. First fill up averaged 27.2 MPG. complete trip avg 25.6 MPG. On the return leg of the trip at times I was driving at between 70- 84 MPH. my truck is a 2024 SR 4x2.
That’s great mpg!
Take it on a highway average speed 70+ from full tank to empty. I wanna see that test
Thanks for the vid gtk the real world perspective
Nice Test. It would be interesting to see how it does going up Parleys and then down through Provo Canyon. Im curious to see how it handles the uphill.
Awesome. Not super surprised, the 4cyl turbos are very efficient if your light on the throttle. I love the low end torque. Our 21 Outback XT also has a 2.4 turbo and it’ll get slightly over 30mpg if driving easy on mostly level roads. But also scoots when you need it. 👍🏻
Wow 30 mpg is great
Dang thats killer
Very excited to test mine next month. On Long Island, at sea-level and have a trip out east in June that'll net about 150 miles round trip all at highway speed, so wondering how high is possible.
I’m at 4,200ft above sea level so you should see some better numbers. Let me know how it goes, I’m curious.
That is incredible
Great video… can you do real world MPG? Or what do you feel you typically get?!
Right now I’m getting 21
Assuming 4wd yes? Love this type of test. Now time and experience have shown me to get a real hard # on mpg, you need to do a test on 3-5 tanks. and fill up at the same pump every time due to could be not 100% etc. take the mpg over the 3-5 tanks and ave. out. all that being said 27 mpg on a 4 wd 4 door with loads of power is a win!
One of your other videos you commented on adjusting the review mirror, did you round it out a bit to give definition? I’m trying to decide why it’s hard to look at when in use? Maybe no depth perception.
Thx for any info you have on this subject , guess we all learning
@@saheene it take a little getting used to because when I look at the rear view mirror my eyes have to readjust. It’s kinda hard to describe. Since it’s a screen and not a mirror it takes a little getting used to.
@@MuscleAmericanya it’s different, but if I’m not mistaken you did say you adjusted it some, so I guess what I’m asking is if rounding the picture out helped? I’m going to do a lil at a time to see if I can get it a lil better
@@saheene the adjustment is Change the view. Like up, down, left or right.
you've picked the flattest route while also running in eco mode.... there is probably a reason why you trip computer had you averaging 19.3 mpg before you reset it. You HAD 783 miles on the OD which would have gave you three tank fills to average out any irregularities. What you are doing is Hypermiling..
Yeah I wanted to see what was the best possible mileage I could get to know its limits. I’m consistently getting 20 MPG now.
I've gotten 32 MPG coming home from work. I go the speed limit.
That’s incredible
A vast improvement for highway mileage. Wonder if the new 4runner can repeat this result.
I saw videos on the TRD pro with the hybrid motor getting just 18-20 mpg highway? what does that mean
Which video?
@@MuscleAmerican th-cam.com/video/58z4v1fRG_s/w-d-xo.htmlsi=eFFVxepKuV69rv8D
Because it’s was on bigger trail rated tires, had a higher ride height and is heavier….The Iforce max hybrid system is tuned more for extra power and not much for efficiency, as opposed to systems like the Powerboost in the f150 which are great at both!
1998 Nissan frontier manual 4wd. King cab long bed. I get 28 on highway
4 cylinder?
How do you feel about the turning radius?
Seems to be not as good as the 3rd Gen, but I have plans to do that comparison as well.
@@MuscleAmerican I would like to see that.
Good mpg, WILL BE good 💡 idea to do the same process with your 2018 Tacoma what will the differences
Thanks
Typically I get 18 MPG with my 3rd Gen but have got up to 20 on occasion.
249mi is Wild, on mine it gives me 335 miles
I have a 2016 4runner w over 180k mi. It avgs about 24 mpg in MN. Mostly easy hgwy mi. 4.0 v6 gets better w age. I don't trust the new American inspired jdm considering the chief engineer behind it. It's not a tride n true vehicle. Lmk how the car ends up after 100k
Does the 2024 tacoma have the auto start stop.
Only on a few lower trim levels like prerunner and I think SR. My trd off road doesn’t have it.
2024 Tacoma has a 18.6 size gas tank…vs 3gen at 21.1 gas tank..meaning more trips to the gas pump…
But it gets better gas mileage so it will be about the same amount of trips. I really wish it had a bigger tank. Missed opportunity for Toyota.
296 miles of range for a full tank is that correct ?
Fuel tank size is 18 gallons and if you get 20 MPG like I have then it’s 360 miles.
I got 22 mpg in my 2023 Tacoma trd pro
How many miles is on your truck
Right now, 2500
If you're complaining about powertrains thank your Gov and agencies for setting ridiculous emissions standards. pricing is a different story though. not sure who can afford a new vehicle these days.
So the average to fill up is ?
Is it a 4x2 or 4x4 ?
4x4
Is this the non hybrid?
Non hybrid
I think everyone should remember that buying a new truck for fuel efficiency may be really dumb depending on your situation. Consider how much fuel you can purchase with the $20,000 you would save by buying used.
Trd off road?
Yep, fully loaded
Stock tires ?
Yes these are the stock tires
drive it in west virginia and get back to us.
Utah has plenty of hills and higher elevation
I’m sure it will get good mpg on I81 through WV, but even a Prius will guzzle on the Corridor H.
Is that a Maverik?
😂
A V6 is not available in the 2024 Tacoma.
Long-term, not using 91 or higher octance on these turbo or hybrid models is a big NO NO. As a master tech. I am warning everyone right now. Cheers
I'm about to take possession of my 24 Tacoma and was wondering about octane levels. I know it's rated for 87 but being a high compression... Probably really wants high octane for long term... Also probably performs better.
@@jackcrackermanI believe the compression ratio on the 2.4 is the same as the outgoing 3.5. Just like the 3.5, it will see a benefit in running 93, but I wouldn’t lose sleep over gas. Run 87.
Why are you using premium? Also, what does 'ecomode' do?
@@miqieeslows the acceleration and turbo usage when you step on the gas
I have a 23 Colorado lt 4×4 turbo plus.24,25 mpg combined. No off road stuff
But your overall average is 19.3. I can get 24 mpg in my ‘23 4runner if i go 45-60 mph too… and my average is also 19.3. Just not seeing that much of a difference with the next gen of trucks
Having put more miles on it I’m getting 20-21 constantly now.
I am very annoying waiting for info on the hybrid version. As it is the msrp is very disappointing to all toyota loyalist
Me too, delivery of these trucks should have been in January of this year for both hybrid and non-hybrid options. We still don’t have pricing for the hybrids which is crazy.
Bs my 2024 trd only do 18 mpg on highway
That sucks
And i cant believe you actually bought one.
Why?
Looks like a lot of people are easily impressed on here.
Not ME !
That has the Iforce ax engine according to the Dash there.
That's atrocious MPG ! The Highlander Max Hybrid is rated at 36 MPG.
There is no reason Toyota couldn't have gotten the Tacoma to over 30+ Mpg.
Truck looks nice and all, but with the price of Gas, and you put Premium in it... that's a hard Pass.
This is not the hybrid version and comparing it to the out going model this is a huge improvement.
87 is not premium
What do you mean people our upset!!! You can’t get a V6 in a 2024 Tacoma!!!!!!
I think majority of driver's don't use eco. Should of done it in normal and with some heavy throttle thrown in. Real world driving. What you did was not really a great test sorry. But a great looking truck
speak for yourself. most drivers now know about eco mode, and with the price of gas, they definitely do use it!
The test was to see how many mpg one COULD get with a light foot and eco mode. If you drive with a lead foot, you will get less. I don’t think you have any room to demand someone test in the way that some people drive.
90 miles is not nearly enough to calculate mpg….
Yeah it is
I’ve gotten 26 in my zr2
That’s incredible!
@@MuscleAmerican yea my diesel ZR2 Colorado gets between 26-28 MPG on the highway at 72-75 MPH. Its great, but I just don't trust the engine anymore (already blew once). Right now I am between the Tacoma and Ranger. Appreciate the video!
Bro you need to change the channel name. Muscle Japanese or better yet muscle Mexican 😂 because the trucks are built there
Hey I’m in America, it counts 😅

@@billw8476musclemex 😂
249 miles of range on a full tank fail 🤦♂️
Ikr I get 335-340 miles on my 3rd gen
GOOD LUCK WITH THAT 4CYL TURBO! MORE PARTS, MORE HEAT,MORE STRESS! LESS DEPENDABILITY AND LESS RELIABILITY. NO WAY!!
Speaking out of ignorant do some research. This engine is quite overbuilt and will last a very long time. No one’s making you buy the product go somewhere else small pee, pee boy.
Turbos are nothing new here. I’ll be enjoying this truck for a long time.
This guys speaks without understanding lol. Toyota has done their homework. This engine is a highly modified for truck application. It will last
There are more things to fail on a NA V6.
good luck living life with that level of negativity, wish I could say you have a bright future ahead but I'd be lying if I did.
296 miles on a Full tank is 🗑️!
No, not going to buy
Build in Mexico and with 4cyl Turbo, give it few months or a year and there will see endless videos on these piles of junk falling apart.
