Last night the weather was great, so stopped by the Nissan and Toyota dealers, which are next to each other. This was after the salesmen were gone, so I just looked around and got sticker shock at a Capstone that was over 80 thousand! There were only 3 Frontiers, so I guess they sold all the ones I looked at a while back. There were 7 Tacomas, and they oddly were all base models, six identical white ones and one silver. Very strange choice of inventory. Up close for the first time, as a former body shop guy, my first impression is that I have NEVER seen so many body lines of different types all combined into one vehicle. It's as if Toyota asked all its stylists to submit ideas, then they fed ALL of them into a computer and told it to combine all the ideas into a single body style. SO busy! I then went back to the Frontier, and it's like my eyes could rest as I looked over the simpler lines. To me Nissan has puffed the hood up over the bed rails too much, but ALL the manufacturers are doing that now for some kind of competition apparently. I also don't understand why late model trucks also have so much front overhang. None of my older trucks had that. Is this some kind of mandated crush zone? My conclusion is that Toyota chose very complex lines to go with the complexity under the hood. Just a guess. Nissan keeps it simpler inside and out. Except they should offer the simple six speed manual to complete the formula.
Yeah the capstone tundra is crazy isn’t it! I’d say it is one of the most luxurious trucks I’ve ever driven tho. But I’d say the platinum or 1794 have everything I’d ever want for 5-8k less. And I would agree the body is pretty busy. Toyota has said they were trying for a trophy truck styling. So it has the skinny body and wide fenders. And then all the body lines are probably Toyota just trying to make it look aggressive. I personally like the look but there’s a butt for every seat. That’s why there’s a million different flavors of car. 😁
@@counterfeitcowboy1362 That's a classic saying! My first stepfather employed me in his used car biz during my senior year, anything from detailing to engine work. I was spoiled and could drive anything I wanted on his lot to school or even to go 4 wheeling. He would sometimes get weird stuff in, and he always proclaimed there's a butt for every seat. He was right too. My favorites were a TLC with a 327 swap, and a Mopar 4x4 with a 440. Strange how that was 40 years ago and I remember it vividly. Last night was a time warp too. Right next to that Tundra was the Chevy dealer body shop I worked at right out of high school. Man time just evaporates. That's when the Corvette C4 was brand new. Yeah. Unfortunately that’s how toyota does it. There is no “factory order” with toyota. And to take it a step further, the dealership doesn’t even get to order what they want for inventory. Toyota tells them what they’re getting. They can, to some extent, add or remove accessories like bed steps, running boards, all weather floor mats etc. but they don’t even get to pick the cars.
I've had a 06 Pre Runner that I did a lift on with 33's and leather interior installed. headers and other things. She currently has 221,600 on the clock. I just picked up a a 24 TRD Sport. Yeah I think they still sell their 3.6 but they don’t have the hemis anymore. Those were all replaced with straight 6 twin turbos. Could always find a clean used one when you’re ready too👍 thanks for watching
I think they should bring back a base model Tacoma or t100 or something. Make it the size of the 2000 tacoma. Make it as base as possible. (Manual windows/ locks/ seats/ everything and sell it for like 25k
I also don’t like how you can’t walk up to the rear passenger doors and have them automatically unlock like you can with the front driver and passenger doors. I put stuff in the back and constantly have to go back to the driver door to hold my hand there for the back to unlock.

The xtra cabs are super hard to find. They are actually the Same wheelbase tho. The difference is the xtracab has a longer bed, the double cab has a longer cab and a shorter bed. The only way you get a longer wheelbase if you get the double cab long bed. Then it’s a foot longer.

Do wish I had the JBL sound, but I only paid 44k, leaving plenty of room for some custom sound upgrades.
That seatbelt beeper would make me rage. I wonder if it can be turned off with one of those carista things like the Tundra. Anyway, that truck is beautiful. The look of the new Tacoma is so great, and in Solar Octane, the greatest color ever. I'm jealous 😀
@@counterfeitcowboy1362 The Carista app does allow you to turn off the seatbelt chimes. I was also able to change other settings, for example have the touch to change lanes turn signal function from 3 flashes to 4. Also turned off the fake engine sounds...
My tundra has a 38 gallon fuel tank and gets me about 550 miles of range ;) this Tacoma to me was a huge swing and a miss in almost all aspects…. I paid 45k for my 21 TRD sport crewmax tundra .

Not even a little bit. Even if it doesn’t last quite as long the improved drivability is absolutely worth it. The 4cylinder and 8 speed are actually one of my favorite things about the truck. I also believe that toyota knows how to build a turbo motor. They built the 2jz which is one of the greatest turbo motors of all time. So it’s not new to them. So yeah I’m not worried about it👍😁

Yeah you could😂 I’m excited to drive a hybrid Tacoma. It won’t have trx power but it has 15 less hp and 65 more ft lb of torque than Toyotas 5.7L v8. Idk about you but a taco with v8 power sounds like a blast to me😂

I have on and it's easy to get 20 mpg and easily 21 if you do a lot of interstate driving. I get 19.5 around town. But this Taco is really easy to hotdog around in because that turbo is addictive. But if you drive it at the acceleration of previous models you'll easily get 20.
Good! I said at the end of the video that I would still buy another one. I also have a video of 5 things I love about my Tacoma. This truck is an absolute blast! And I think you’ll like yours 👍
Theres only 1 thing i don't like after driving one. It feels so cheap on the interior compared to 3rd gen. It has more tech but feels so chinsy inside.
I don't know why, but this depends on the model somehow. I have a TRD Offroad and I love the interior. But the first dealer I went to would only let me drive a cheaper model and I hated the interior. I don't agree that it feels cheaper than the 3rd gen at all though. Fit and finish on mine is tight, and a lot better than my 2015 Tundra.
Yea having 6 cylinders is cool. But to be honest I was not a fan of the previous powertrain. I would 1000% percent rather drive this new turbo 4. The power delivery is so much better. I just hope it lasts 300k miles. That’s all I ask😂
55-56k is the starting price of a Ranger Raptor (If its not marked up). But still - its what you're getting for the money at 60k. Having to spend that money.. only to spend more on Suspension tires and wheels.. at 60k??? Come on man.
Honestly I’d rather the raw plastic, the pro has gloss black flare. They look cool but they are going to get scratched really bad. And the TRD offroads have had raw plastic fenders since 2016

They would not allow me to put my teenage hands on it.
@@jeanclaude7018 oh yeah there is in fact a butt for every seat. I’ve only been at the dealership a little over 6 years and I’ve seen some weird cars. Some come through and I say no one’s buying that and sure enough… someone comes and buys it😂 I’ve never been lucky enough to be able to take whatever I want home. That sounds like the dream😂. That’s crazy about the corvettes tho! We’re on the c8 now😂 I’ve always like the c3s and c6s!
Man, I like your honesty, thank you and for that reason I will not be purchasing one. The small tank is one of them and the glitchy radio and who knows what else is going to come up I’ll just wait this one out 52KMSRP is not looking cool to me.
I appreciate you watching! The small fuel tank is annoying. I’m hoping they’ll have an update to make the Apple car play a little smoother. And to be fair you can get a TRD offroad for about 46. I actually went down a rabbit hole last night and priced the Colorado and Ranger compared to the Tacoma. They’re all expensive 🥵😂 in any case I appreciate you watching and supporting my channel!
@@counterfeitcowboy1362 If everybody would stop paying these HIGH prices, then the manufacturers would get the message. They're price gouging ---all of them. Let these new vehicles sit.on the dealership lots. They can chew on that for dinner
1:50 Remote starting usually just wastes gas. Idle 30 seconds max in typical weather.
I also noticed the weird options packages when pricing one out... if i wanted the stabilizer disconnect, you cant get it als carte, your cheapest option is to pay around 5 grand for a package that includes it.... wish you could option them out the way you want it, and not have to pay for 1 thing you want and get stuck with 4 other things you dont want
Exactly they put more on them than needed. Ridiculously expensive 😂
Yeah... You should save your money and NOT buy one.
I've had a 06 Pre Runner that I did a lift on with 33's and leather interior installed. headers and other things. She currently has 221,600 on the clock. I just picked up a a 24 TRD Sport. The one thing that I hate is the fuel mileage really isn't that much better than the 06 with the bigger tires on her. I'm averaging 18-19 on the new one. Hell I was getting 16-17 out of the old one. oh and that damn seat belt chime has got to go. I will find it. :)
No way I'm letting the 06 go
Oh boy that seat belt chime will make your blood boil! Don’t let go of the 06! You’ll kick yourself later!😂 yeah I was getting 18-19 in the beginning. I have about 2700 miles on it now and it seems to be getting better. I took a long trip on the highway the other day and I was getting 23mpg!
Proud owner of a 2022 GMC Canyon here. Last V6 you can get from GM as they moved away from V6. When its time I will upgrade my truck, going to RAM only truck that still use V6 engines… well so far. Hope they don’t move away from it…..
Yeah I think they still sell their 3.6 but they don’t have the hemis anymore. Those were all replaced with straight 6 twin turbos. Could always find a clean used one when you’re ready too👍 thanks for watching
Yea the new hurricane engine inline 6 turbo. Not a V6 but at least its 6 cylinder engine. Not a fan of 4 cylinder trucks. Anyway very nice video
Is legroom in back smaller compared to 2022?
The legroom is the same. They made the seat sit higher and gave more head room though so it is more comfortable
Two weeks rear power outlet failed and now the hood scope is separating dealer appt Wed.
The cost IS NOT a nitpicky thing. That is a huge thing.
My 2009 gets 17-18 city/hwy cost 26,400 For a 4x4 double cab sport and will last 300k miles.
I think they should bring back a base model Tacoma or t100 or something. Make it the size of the 2000 tacoma. Make it as base as possible. (Manual windows/ locks/ seats/ everything and sell it for like 25k
I purchased my 1st gen Tacoma 2004 reg cab 4x4 with auto and manual windows with bench seat in December 2004 for 18 k....just turned 108,000 miles😊
I also don’t like how you can’t walk up to the rear passenger doors and have them automatically unlock like you can with the front driver and passenger doors. I put stuff in the back and constantly have to go back to the driver door to hold my hand there for the back to unlock.
Yeah even my offroad premium doesn’t have sensors on the back doors. Idk if the premium in the previous gen did. But that is kind of a weird thing
That truck is obnoxious 😂
Thanks you saved me a lot of money. This video was really helpful.

I would like to know what would anybody buy the first or second version of a new model year??
I test drove a 2024 yesterday. I will keep my 2022 SR5. I was not that impressed tbh
Auto or manual? I test drove the manual it was pretty nice
Auto
Why would you not keep a 2022 regardless? Why get rid of any Toyota before 10 years?
The long wheelbases on double-cabs ruin the breakover angle. XtraCabs seem hard to find.
The xtra cabs are super hard to find. They are actually the Same wheelbase tho. The difference is the xtracab has a longer bed, the double cab has a longer cab and a shorter bed. The only way you get a longer wheelbase if you get the double cab long bed. Then it’s a foot longer.
My Five: 1. Plastic interior 2. No lockable fuel cap 3. Audio is leveled more to the front cab 4. Sun Visor rubs the headliner when you pull to the side. 5. Both USB connections in the console are for power. No data. You have to use the one on the side of the screen, and yes all the annoying warning tones.
Yeah! I was driving home today and It must have been the first time I tried to move my visor to the side. I moved it and it hit the headliner and I was like wtf??? What a weird design!!

You don’t have to reboot the system if car play doesn’t connect when you remote start it. Just go to settings, Bluetooth, select your phone, connect to apple car play on the right side.
Yeah that’s the other thing that I do. Holding the power button is easier tho I think
@@counterfeitcowboy1362 it takes me 3-5 seconds to connect the phone by going to settings and Bluetooth since it is already paired. I’m sure rebooting the system take way longer
It's too expensive for what it is, and it's Butt Ugly, and it's a 4 banger. What's not to hate?
Don't forget the nasty Tesla screen pasted to the dash.
Am a Toyota guy and still have my 19 Tacoma TRD Sport which we bought new for 37K nicely optioned. Knocked around another Tacoma but ended up with a 23 Colorado ZR2 loaded for 53K. Toyota just priced me out for what they give you. Yes, Toyota reliability is worth something but I never keep a truck past 100K.
I’m not going to lie to you, I’m a toyota guy too, but those zr2s are definitely up there on my list. They are cool!

I thought the first five things were going to be price, price, price, price……….and price
lol nah just one of them. And it’s not even that it’s expensive (which it is) but just that they package things so you have to get stuff you don’t necessarily want. I will say tho, now that I’ve had the truck a few months, some of the stuff I didn’t want is actually kind of nice😂
I won't be buying a 4 gen, I'll keep my 19 pro until the wheels fall off
I about bought a 23 pro in solar octane. Bad ass truck you have!
The ZR 2 Bison is rated at 16 mpg. I don't expect a truck to get great mileage but 16 mpg ?
Did I say 16😬 if I did I didn’t mean to. I actually have a whole video on gas mileage. I was getting in the 18s in that video. As it breaks in it’s getting better. I’m up to 19 now. And I drive it pretty fast
You can turn off the seatbelt beeper. I hate it too, so I had the dealer remove it.
How did you do that?? My buddy bought a 13 dollar seat belt clicker thing that makes it think your seatbelt is on. I don’t love that tho😂
@@counterfeitcowboy1362 the dealer plugs a OBD II scanner into your car and hooks it up to their computer and they can change it. They can also limit it to 1 beep. Ask your dealer they should be able to help.

That’s good! Sounds like you did good. What trim and color did you get?
@@counterfeitcowboy1362 I got the Underground, with white accent trim on the interior, which I think is my favorite unique thing about the interior. It's a 4x4 TRD Offroad, but I kept it pretty basic otherwise, with the exception of the upgraded dash and 14inch screen.
Oh it’s unbearable. Thank you! I love the color too!
@@counterfeitcowboy1362 The Carista app does allow you to turn off the seatbelt chimes. Pay $10 for a month of access to advanced settings and then you can probably cancel the subscription after you've made changes if you're not going to use all the other features. You also need a compatible OBD reader. Carista has theirs but it's a bit limited in it's compatibility with other vehicles. I have an OBDLink LX, which is more expensive but works with the Carista app as well as many other apps, for example one that works with my BMW motorcycle. Android user BTW so can't speak to how Apple works with these products.
As for the seatbelt chime, you can turn off each seatbelt individually, for example you can turn off just the front seats and leave the rear seatbelt chimes working.

There is a lot of plastic. I will say tho it is one of the better looking/ feeling plastic interiors I’ve sat in. You can spend 85k on a ford super duty and their interior is way worse😂
@counterfeitcowboy1362 That's true. As for pricing, I think it's comical that Toyota moved production to Mexico to improve efficiency and lower costs, and THIS IS THE RESULT.
Go figure...
Yeah. I mean I get that pricing goes up. And honestly it’s still comparable to the market depending on the trim. (Excluding the pro) but it still sucks that it went up, and that it went up so much😂

The v4 turbo does not bother you?
Not even a little bit. Even if it doesn’t last quite as long the improved drivability is absolutely worth it. The 4cylinder and 8 speed are actually one of my favorite things about the truck.
