Agree. Bought my 2004 VW GTI when that generation was near the end of its production run. Twenty years later, the car is still my daily driver today. The newly redesigned 2006 VW GTI had arguably worse reliability and durability. I don't see the '06 models on the road anymore. The lesson for me is; let others be first adopters. I view owners of newly redesigned vehicles as paying to be an extension of the car manufacturer's R&D department. They're paying to find all of the problems the manufacturer will need to fix in future years of the same generation vehicle.

I sold my Ford Maverick Hybrid for this and man I hate to go from 40MPG to 20MPG but this is the only one with a 6ft bed with the top 4x4 Trims from all manufacturers. My Maverick had like three recalls but none that affects the car from running. Lots of quirks. On the other, the myriad of problems that it causes makes it resource intensive and uneconomical to fix. Thus, the customer would probably scrap the car sooner than later. The way products are being produced in today's modern corporate world. I wouldn't be surprised if this was an intentional decision to force consumers to keep buying or spending their products.

So I do not quite understand this argument that it's worse because it has a four banger. This engine has been around for two years now, and its been on other platforms, and there have not been many issues surrounding them. I think it's best to give it a couple of years to shake out the bugs and not just give up on a beloved truck because people don't understand that change does take time.

Not sure why you're calling it economical....I get the same mileage in my 23 as my 24. 18 to 21 MPG average per tank.
What the heck was the point of a 4 cyl if the milage wasn't improved? If they had just upgraded the look and left the power plant intact, the result would have been much better. All those complainers who were bitching about the lag.....This is your fault!!! I will take lag over this new 4 cyl any day!

No plug in hybrid, as far as I know. Only parallel hybrid available as an option. Toyota is making a larger and heavier truck with a smaller engine. That's asking for trouble. Manufacturing in Mexico instead of Texas doesn't help. They also cost a lot more.

I did not regret buying my 3rd gen tacoma. What I regret that Toyota took jobs to Mexico to make 2024 pos Tacoma. If I want turbo charge, Ill buy sports car. Right now Im shopping for my son truck either Ranger or Ridgeline. At least they are V6 either American made n Japanese quality made. Another lies that economy is to blame n that is the lowest excuses. Toyota already paying American labor of pathetic rate of $15/hr n now Mexican of $2.75/he with retail of TRD $60kplus tax on 4 cylinder.

The Tacoma, while a good entry level vehicle has been taking advantage of buyers by not updating the truck while -upscaling the price. Toyota was failing its customers and realized it was time for an update. While the new motor and transmission have caused concern the vehicle still needed the update. Toyota is feeling the same pains as many of the top truck manufacturers. More power, better fuel mileage, better towing capability, more comfort all come with their negatives. All Manufacturers are dealing with electronic transmission and engine issues related to it.
If Toyota wishes to stay in the front in their niche they must make the adjustments as a trade off. More money equals better performance as a whole.

I always have been, and still trying to be a big Toyota fan, owned all my driving life. But everything you said in video, and same with the Tundra. There goes Toyota's well known RELIABLE and DEPENDABILITY out the window. I have 2014 Toyota Tundra, and when I upgrade to a new one, it will be to a 2021 and under. I like to keep many Toyota's for at least 300,000 + miles with just normal maintenance. I have to see it to believe it to happen to the new Tundra that looks like a Tacoma on steroids lol. If the new Tundra gets to 300,000 miles, I'm sure it will come with a hefty maintenance bill along the way!

Never buy a new generation of any vehicle for at least year three. If the manufacturer was smart they would provide 5 year bumber to bumber warranty or 60,000 miles on the vehicle. Right now the bumper to bumper is 3 years or 36,000 miles. They could drop it down to the standard 3 year warranty after year 3 of the car and the kinks have been mostly worked out.

The US EPA's insanely stringent CAFE regulations and "greenhouse" gas reduction mandates are what has forced all manufactures to nearly complete switch from simple durable naturally aspirated engines to very complex, expensive, temperamental, tiny, turbocharged engines; and extremely complicated 9-10 speed transmissions. If tiny turbo engines were superior to natural aspirated engines manufactures would have been using them all along. They're not.

Most of the comments I've reviewed come from folks who have no mechanical knowledge, and prob can't even open the hood. I've watched folks who have no clue how to even off road. Off road 101; keep it slow and use minimal torque, high RPM will break parts on any vehicle. If your in a hurry, buy a vette and stick to the road. I've raced 4WDs and bikes for years with minimal damage.

I believe that most of the people that leave the stupid comments about the new Tacoma being unreliable, having recalls, etc... have never had one. People should stop watching these videos, me included, and buy what they want.
