I have a 2018 Avalon and really love it. I think sales are falling because people want SUV's and Trucks rather than a sedan. Nothing wrong with it, just customer changing preferences.
That’s right everything is SUV’s and trucks there’s nothing wrong I love mines 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰is in mint green leather interior and everyone falls in love with it Love the way it drives and very reliable comfortable car even the back seats declines for long traveling mines is a 2,07 XLS 6 cylinder no scratches or rust like new I Love it 🥰 😬😬😬😬😬😬👌
Shopping for a new car in 1995, we looked at the Camry. By the time we added all the options we wanted, including the V6, turned out that the base Avalon, complete with all the options we wanted as standard, was only $1k more in price! As it had much more room in the back seat for our soon to arrive baby's carseat, we went with that. It was a no brainer. One of the best cars I ever owned.
Exactly my first car was a 98 Avalon I loved it then I upgraded to a 2008 limited loved it! Soft leather, wooden upholstery, reclining rear seat, hidden gps controls, power rear window shade. It rivaled other large luxury sedans like the Cadillac Deville and now today even that's gone, no more XTS. Buyers want compact or midsized.
I own a 2005 Avalon. This car was state of the art when it came out, offering features not seen until a decade later, too many to list. If it was imagined in 2005, it had it….Push button start with passive entry, Navigation, cooled seats, power rear sunshade, Massive back seat, extremely comfortable car with lots of power. One of the more reliable cars ever made. Problem is, the Camry was prioritized and sedan sales as a whole are going down. Nothing wrong with this car.
I agree, my 2006 Limited, built in 2005 has everything including radar cruise . I purchased my '06 in 2023 after looking at the later generations. I really liked the looks of my Limited much more than the newer ones. Mine looks classy and distinguished the newer ones look like Hyndi sport addition with all the louvers in the bumpers etc. It's well know that Avalons were admired by older drivers for comfort, luxury and safety. These folks had the resources to purchase them. This is not so true about younger upcoming drives I think the end of the Avalon was planned obsolescence, priming the public for the planned "Crown" models appearance changes; so that the dramatic styling changes didn't come as extreme shock to consumers. Let's face it there probable wasn't enough market for Avalon and Crowns together. All the coverage of ending the well loved Avalon was just press for the introduction of the crown. Who knows the dropping sales statistics could have been partially driven by the number Touota actually built each year.
I had a 2005 Limited. The features were awesome, and I really loved the wood grain interior, the auto rain wipers, and the powered sun shade for the back window! The interiors of the newer models just don't cut it.
I use to work at Kroger as a teenager. Everytime I was pushing carts I would see old people and they drove avalons. My perception of avalon was that they were old people cars. Now I'm 34 and I test drove a used Avalon and it was so comfortable for the driver and I sat in the backseat and the passenger seat was comfortable as well. After that they I understand now why old people love them. Comfortable, and low maintenance compared to another old people car brand Cadillac.
I think the reason for the Avalon's decline in sales is for a host of reasons. 1) the decline of sedans in general 2) the Camry is such a great car for several thousand less 3) Lexus ES models 4) maybe a bit of old foggy car vibe. Personally I think it is a great car (I do not own one) and will be sorry to see it go.
Bought a 2022 Avalon XLE this year. Love it. Bought it for 4 main reasons: Comfort, Safety, Drivability, Reliability. We forget the main purpose of a car is to provide safe, comfortable, reliable transportation- which the Avalon has in spades. It may be that car manufacturers can’t make enough money on a car that lasts 20 years and never breaks down with very low maintenance.
My g/f "had" an '09 XLS that got totalled when an 18 wheeler rear ended her and took the driver side tail light and ripped it ALL the way to the front bumper and spun her 180°. She was N0T seriously injured.
@csharpe3949 Finally, someone else gets it. Car makers have conditioned customers into thinking a car's main purpose is to have unlimited or maxed out Tech. That's why the newer cars are not as reliable and trouble-free as the earlier models. We've traded in durability for excess technology.
@@sewj8046 more like car makers can't make cheap cars anymore because of how good the used car market is. No one is going to buy a base model Nissan Versa or Mirage for 17k new when you can buy a nice Mazda6, camry, accord, etc used
I have a 2016 Avalon and now with 136,000 miles on it , I’ve only spent 13 oil changes one time up and $140 in two part that needed replacement . Same brakes same computer modules same every thing and it runs like new. So for my vote , it’s the best car I’ve owned and would buy a second Toyota Avalon 🎊🧬🎉
I really like the Avalon. It made it onto the list of one of the best used cars to buy. I had family and friends that owned them and liked them. I think they were just too bland and I mostly remember seeing senior citizens drive them. I feel this car just wasn't marketed correctly. Toyota can still revive it in a few years like they did with the Supra.
After moving the Avalon to share a platform with Lexus ES, Toyota didn't advertise the Avalon any longer. While it will die for 2023, its death warrant was effectively signed in 2013, giving such a prestigious vehicle a long, slow, humiliating death.
I bought an Avalon XLE earlier this year. I love it! Compared to the Camry XLE that I had before, the Avalon is in a whole different league of car. So much better! If you consider that I got the Avalon for exactly MSRP (a good deal these days), the fact that Camry V6 are non-existent (except as TRD), and there is typically a $3000 dealer markup on the 4-cylinder Camry XLE, the Avalon was not really that much more expensive for how much better it is. Arguably, a base Lexus ES350 is not much more than the Avalon, but you cannot actually get those; they always come with factory-installed options that cannot be negotiated away, which makes them about $8k more expensive. The argument that the Avalon is an "old people car" is fine with me because I am, in fact, 64 years old. Perfect car for me.
Completely agree. I suppose us "old" folks appreciate the big cars like back in the day just now with all the bells and whistles. That's my excuse anyway.
I have an Avalon Touring edition I think the redesign generation 5 doesn't look like an old person's car to me. I disagree with the opinion of some people that the Avalon is stretch Camry.
@@Louis51360 did you have to order your avalon or did you get it from the dealer? I love it I want the cognac interior. I am in Katy Texas and they have not had in at the dealer. I am hoping its not to late to order it
I own a 2014 Avalon Limited and love it. I plan on getting the final generation touring when all is said and done and will keep the 2014. Regarding the Avalon's cancellation, I believe the follow factors contributed. 1. Competing with the Lexus ES350 (same car minus a few simple refinements), 2. The Camry is cheaper 3. Turbos / Hybrids and MPG - The V6 In this car is fantastic. It will last so much longer than the former, but society today is so "push button." Very few think long term which Toyota is known for CURRENTLY. Some think a two year old car is "old". The Crown will not have the following nor longevity of the Avalon. The new Tundra has shown how horrible Turbos are; even for Toyota. 4. Zero advertising for the Avalon. Bottom line; the Avalon is a trooper - old reliable in the tool bag. However, so many forget why we purchase an automobile in the first place - quite simply, reliable transportation. Toyota is going the wrong direction on so many fronts in my view.
Number four is the biggest reason the Avalon is leaving production. People are surprised to learn that the Avalon is still being made. Once Toyota put it on the ES platform for 2013, I knew with the ES commanding a larger price for the same product, the Avalon's days were numbered as Toyota has not advertised this car since then. It's too bad as the Avalon is a stellar product and in some cases, offers more features for less money than an ES, which will easily run for $8-15k more than the Avalon.
given your glowing review here im in the market for one. DO you think i should go all in for this car ( 2022) if you don't think its good for me do you know any car of similar quality that meet my criteria or even SUV's with large cabins though id prefer to avoid those in my country. My criteria are 1) Large cabin (I'm 6ft 5) tall and big guy (340lbs) 2) Good fuel economy 3)Good tech ( the tech isn't great but its passable)
The Avalon didn’t come out in 2005 in the US. I drive a 2000 Avalon. They came out in 1995 according to Wikipedia. I would add an annotation in your video to correct your statement around 0:50.
I still have my 98 Avalon...... Originally my mom's car.... Had it for 7 yrs so far..... 300k miles and still rides!!! Love this car.... And will continue to drive it until it cant no more!!!!
I have a 2011 avalon limited, and I paid 10.000 for it in 2019 with 108.000. I used it for Uber. It has 328.000 miles, and she's still going strong! Absolutely the best, most comfortable vehicle I have ever owned.

I bought a Toyota Avalon Touring edition. And I am delighted with it. The Generation 5 Avalon I purchased was considered the Flagship for Toyota. I love the style and performance. I feel the tech is up to date. The Gen 5 was totally updated in 2019 and noway would consider it your grandfather's car. When Toyota would show their lineup Avalon was often left out. I don't think the car was promoted enough. sure the price might be considered high, but it's built on the Lexus ES300 platform which is about $3000 more. Also, I think the higher-priced car usually don't do as well as the lower-priced cars.
A lot of people were surprised to know that the Avalon was being made up until 2022. Since moving to the ES chassis in 2013, I knew then that the writing was on the wall for the Avalon, a stellar, superior product to the ES. Toyota hasn't really tried to market the Avalon for years because they know they can easily make between $5-15k more on the ES.
I have a 2020 XSE Hybrid and love a full size car that gets 40 mpg and I love the sporty ride. My 3rd Avalon and I will keep this one for a long time since they’re not making them anymore. Truly under appreciated car.
bought a used 2018 Lexus ES last year we really wanted a Avalon but there was a clear night and day difference in ride comfort, seat comfort and road noise after test driving 3 different ES and 3 different Avalons, and chose the ES and we even got an fully loaded ES for $7000 less with same mileage and condition
Avalon is incredibly popular. Good luck getting your hands on a new or used one. Inside Toyota there was an internal battle leading to its demise. Some execs fought to keep the Avalon in order to keep Toyota from being seen as a value brand. Others, however, saw that it was eating into Toyota's more lucrative Lexus sales. The latter won out. Toyota slowly killed the Avalon by cutting production and by increasing its sticker price.

I just purchased a 2022 Avalon Limited about 6 weeks ago. Ive put about 800 miles on it. Im pretty pleased with it, and the more i drive it, the more my appreciation for it grows. I was also considering about a 2020-2022 Lexus ES350, but after driving the Avalon, didnt really see the need in buying the Lexus. For the price, its a great value. Was a little sad to see it dropped from production. Ive followed them since their inception.

I bought a 2022 Hybrid Avalon in April. Amazing. Rated at 44 mpg and I'm averaging closer to 50 mpg. I already have 6k miles and have loved every one of them. With gas prices I figured I have saved $500 since owning it compared to my older Camry. Plenty of power and VERY smooth all around. Was looking at the Lexus ES Hybrid, and have zero regrets going with the Avalon. Only complaint is the engine is a tad loud on acceleration...and I mean "punching" it. Small 4 cylinder so not surprising. I don't consider myself old, but one who appreciates nice cars, and the Avalon is a Very Nice Car. Love It.
I bought a 2002 in 2012 drove it several years and traded it for a Prius. I still see it around town and still going strong. It was a super comfy car, powerful comfy seats, roomy interior. Not one issue. People used to ask why i bought an old man car but i didn't care. Reliability and dependability are key. I think they're going out because electric and suv/cuv’s are in. Either that or people want such huge Suburbans Tahoes and trucks. Doesn't make sense when gas is $6 a gallon but its their money.
I have the 07 Avalon and it's the best car I've ever owned. The fact that people are buying terrible crossovers from GM tell you a lot about the problems of the American auto market. People like heavy, gas guzzling, unreliable cars.
Bought a 2000 avalon in 2002 had 23000 miles I drove it until 2014 it had almost 200000 miles my son still has it and the mileage is 269000 water pump is the only thing that has been replaced. Fantastic car
I have 2001 with over 30,000. Still runs and best car, ever. Just bought 2017 hybrid, I hope it lasts as long as my 1st one. It's a shame that they are discontinuing it.
I have a 2021 Avalon Limited. I have owned a 2000, 2005, 2014 and now the 2021 Avalon. It is the best car I have ever driven. I just love my Avalon. It has great pickup entering I 95 and it is a comfortable car to drive on long trips. I am sorry to see the Avalon disappear. Why buy an expensive Lexus when you get the same car in an Avalon.
We all know. When I recently worked at a Toyota dealership, they have TRD Avalon and TRD CAMRY parked next to each other on the show pads out front. Same size, same options, same price. When the Camry became the same size of the Avalon is what killed it. 😓😢
Thanks for your information you gave us on the Toyota Avalon. My wife and I have only one since late 2017 and it’s a 2018 model. The vehicle has been flawless and we hate to see it get old because we can’t replace it with anything of equal value. By the way you mentioned that the newer Avalon came with a 301 hp motor V8. It wasn’t a V-8. It was a V6 with 301 hp. Just an FYI.
It's a great car, but its only slightly bigger than Camry and too similar to justify the price. And of course, everyone wants crossovers now. It will be a sad day if the Camry ever disappears. I still prefer sedans.
I have fully loaded 2021 Avalon Touring and there is simply no comparison to Camry XSE especially once you add cost of V6. Avalon Touring is wayyyyy more refined with acoustic glass, Active Noise Cancellation, and adaptive damping suspension, and other creature comforts. My wife and I just got back from 2,200+ mile round trip to Yellowstone. Driving through South Dakota, Montana, Wyoming at speeds over 80mph up and down grades and still achieved 28.7 mpg. At 87 mph on level to moderate grades V6 engine is barely breaking a sweat at 2000 rpm. 😄 Cruise control never lost speed up grades or at altitude. If you have never driven one of these V6 Avalons long distance you will have no clue what you are missing.
I love Avalon. The major cause of low sales in the Avalon is due to the fact that you have the Camry which was more advertised and you had more rebates. So if you think about it they really hurt sales because why would you purchase an Avalon over a Camry which almost has the same power same features a little bit smaller but at the same time with the new redesign you get almost more styling and looks for your money. Personally I'm different I'm more impressed to the Avalon touring and also even the ES 350 f sport. I just wish they would have moved the Avalon upmarket to rear wheel drive or even gave us the Lexus GS as the avalon. Either way I still plan to purchase an Avalon touring sooner than later. I like the TRD but you get more free money on the Tory model with the same looks.
The camry is scheduled to be discontinued in 24 or 25 also. Along with the lexus es350. Maxima is done too I think after 23. Sold only 19k units. So it's mostly people wanting suvs
I have a 2013 Toyota Avalon limited with 177,000 miles on it. It’s never giving me a minutes trouble and love the car. I change the oil regularly even send samples up to Blackstone laboratories to have the oil analyze. I get a good report every time. I love my Avalon.
I have owned 7 Avalon's. Avalon models, 1997, 2000, 2004, 2010, 2013, 2016 and now for the last 2 years, my 2021 Avalon Hybrid XLE. I think it's the best, out of the 7. I enjoy it the most. My gas mileage averages 45-48 mpg, it's very smooth and quiet and handles great and I love it. I think the turning point for Avalon could have been in 2013 with the new pretty body style. Alot of folks bought Avalon's. For me, it was The worst year (because of the inferior/rough ride). The 2013 model had the new body style, but suspension has been changed from previous Avalon's. I was use to a smoother ride from my other Avalon's. I elected not to keep it long, and traded it for the 2016 model, which had gone back to the smooth ride/suspension. Maybe, that had something to do with it. Maybe some of those folks that purchased the 2013-2015 generation of Avalon's didn't like them and went on to other vehicles.
Thank you for all of these positive comments. We are in the market for a new car. My Husband drove a Camry for YEARS and absolutely LOVED that car until a drunk driver totaled it when it was parked (visiting family). We had no idea how sharp they now look with the large grill. We will be researching them more before making a decision. Thanks again.
That’s the main reason. I changed my mind to paying 44K+fees to bring a basic ES300H after the dealers telling me the same story:we are short of chips, short of inventory….you got to wait for more than 6 months and 5000 dollars market up to get your dream Toyota hybrid cars in LA😢
Bought my 2015 Avalon as a lease return with 30,000 mi in ‘17. Put 55,000 trouble free mi on it to date. Only changed out tires and had regular oil changes. ALL cars should be this trouble free!........Great heated seats, 6cyl power on board, I have burned BMW’s and Audi’s off the line....one on the best cars I have owned....and again....Essentially a trouble free monster of a car!

I have a 2002 Avalon. This car was ahead of its time by FAR in 2002. It had incredibly fancy interior and is very luxurious. The engine in these are also known to run forever. Mine particular car has 320,000 miles on it and doesn’t have a single issue other than the AC blender door on the drivers side being stuck. The engine runs sound, interior is great, gas mileage is great, the electronic and speaker system is fantastic, no rust at all on the outside. These used to be one of the greatest cars. The newer ones kind of lost their identity compared to the older ones. The older models were a cheaper priced car that was great on gas and had incredible features. The newer ones don’t have the price, the gas mileage (by todays standards), or the features when compared to the price. For 36$k you can just get something much better. Most people buying cars want good gas mileage and affordability or a sports car for personal use. Anyone hauling a family or looking for luxury is buying an suv or a hybrid/electric.
I think sales are down because of poor Toyota designs. The Avalon is a luxury sedan and should match up Lexus sedan but the Avalon continually failed to meet up with that. Innovations were slow and limited probably because the wows were been reserved for the Lexus counterparts. The exterior designs are also redundant for a luxury sedan. The newer lines kept looking like the Camrys and Corollas with almost no differences on the outside. The grill and head lamps on a Corolla, Camry and Avalon are almost interchangeable. They kept putting the Avalon in the go figure range despite its higher price point. The Avalon would have sold better if the obvious Toyota logos on the front grill were trashed and a more classic "A V A L O N" was spelled out on the front grill. This would have boosted buyers ego. Topped up with the interior luxury to enjoy. More bragging rights over the Cs. Avalon should be a luxury line of its own. They kept playing the corolla card and expecting a miracle
In the process of customizing my '03 Toyota Avalon XLS now. Thinking about getting it licensed by the FAA since when I push that gas pedal down, it nearly gets airborne leaping off the ground. Love this car!
2005 is absolutely NOT the first year for the North American Avalon. They were first offered in 1994 for the 1995 model year. Your research person has fallen asleep at the wheel, so to speak. This error in your part takes away your credibility, unfortunately. That’s too bad. Great video otherwise.
I have a 99 Avalon with 167k miles. Runs like Jack the Bear. If anyone doesn't like their vehicle, make me an offer I can't refuse. These are great cars.
My stepmom put roughly 250k miles on hers with relatively no issues. Bought a new one, gave the old one to a sibling... that thing may still be kicking today. Excellent cars
The first production Avalon rolled off the TMMK assembly line in Georgetown, Kentucky, in September 1994, and subsequent generations have all been manufactured at the Kentucky location to date. Toyota marketed the Avalon as a replacement for the Cressida, a model discontinued for the American market in 1992.
What I don't understand as a 2019 avalon owner (I'm 22 y/o and I love this thing!) Is if sedan sales are down, especially large sedan sales, with the Avalon being stuck in between the Camry and Lexus... What is the point of brining in the Toyota crown to replace it? So you're replacing a large sedan with a large lifted ish sedan? It doesn't make sense!
Well one thing about americans we seem to love coupe/fastback/sportback/hatchbacks whatever you want to call em and like someone said its already a model in china ! So it’s probably not that expensive to bring it over here but it’s funny looking to me lol
I bought a used one in Canada and after I can't find any new 2022. No dealership I looked have them for sale so ..... How did that 1 person got the car, must be employee or imported?
Nothing wrong with it I wanted one so bad, but could not afford it so I had to buy a Camry SE instead. I still want one and may trade for a used model soon. The cars and SUV's made as of now are over priced unreliable junk. Too much emissions crap with them turning to tiny engines with turbos. One of these cars with the V6 are practically bullet proof if you service them. They have a great ride and low road noise as long as you do not pick a sport model like the TRD or SE.

@@everymandriver That website does not list the Avalon since they stopped making them so it is useless for me searching for one of those cars they need to list every make and model despite whether it is still in production or not thanks.
What happened? 1) made lower, stiffer, and "sportier" to satisfy a demographic that aren't going to buy them anyway. 2) Swoopier roofline which effectively negates the one purpose most people have to buy a sedan (carry 4 people comfortably) 3) Lack of headroom. A person being long of torso and in excess of 6ft tall cannot sit upright in the Avalon (or Camry)- the seat must be placed into a gangster lean, and you must learn to drive from a dentists chair. 4)Toyota has forgotten who actually bought them, and focused on chasing a younger demographic, and in doing so created a vehicle that neither demographic likes. They began trying to tailor the car to attract younger buyers, and never once gave a second thought to the fact that younger buyers BECOME the older buyers that have been buying the Avalon since Cadillac and Buick forgot who they were, decades ago. Just my .02- I could be wrong, it's happened before.
I have a 2010 Avalon, I’m tall and this car has the head room and leg room, many options, powerful v6 pretty decent full mileage and very reliable , have owned it for 12 years and it still looks great.
I have a 2015 hybrid with a package in it. My goodness I LOVE THIS CAR!! I’ve literally owned upwards of 65 vehicles in my life. NONE of them ride or drive like this car. Without question this is the most comfortable, most durable, best fuel mileage, quick easiest to drive car ever…yeah. I like it. If I had the cash, I’d buy 4 me and hold on to them so I never ran out!!!
My 2003 Avalon has 300K miles on it and the engine and transmission are holding up well. Burns a little oil and could use new struts, but she's still reliable as ever. Will hopefully go to 400K miles.
I have a 1997 and 2012 Avalon both of these are the best cars I have ever owned. The 2012 has 282K miles and still drives as if it was new. The 97 I'm just breaking in at 110K. I believe the comfort, smoothness and reliability of this car will make it a great used car choice for many years to come. My gut feel is 1) Was not marketed like the Camry and Lexus ES. 2.) Everyone has moved to SUV's.
Shopped for a Camry in 2019 and test drove one. Then the sales guy asked me if I wanted to test drive the Avalon too. I really didn't want a car that large, but from the moment I pulled out of the dealership I knew it was the car for me over the Camry. Been driving it 3 years with no problems and one minor recall on the fuel pump replacement in which I experienced no issues. Cheaper than a Lexus, but with many of the same bones. It rides fantastic and has tons of passenger and trunk space. Downsides, the infotainment system is annoyingly slow, the headroom getting into the car is low, but once you're in it's ok. Probably no sales in Canada because of the weather up there. It does not drive well in the snow, it can be an adventure if you're not skilled. I imagine the AWD one is much better in that case. I will miss not being able to get another one down the road, but the SUV segment has swallowed up everything.
@@thomasgodfrey758 Don't know. Had the factory tires on it and I can drive anything in the snow, but it doesn't give me a warm fuzzy when driving in it.
@@Jbmacrone it definitely sounds like the tires. I upgraded to a sports touring BF Goodrich tire and it not only greatly enhanced my driving experience but the car is rock solid in all kinds of inclement weather.
I had a 2014 avalon limited and it was a fantastic car, except the low profile tires, they made the car ride like a rock. It handled great, but every bump went right through my spine.
Avalon was a great car. The problem is very simple ….price and styling. Who at Toyota thought that grille was great….should have been fired. On the spot. Functional, people are going to SUVs now and it just makes more sense.

The good news is that it'll be a killer used car buy for years to come, partly for one reason it's always been: Its old and conservative first owners never beat on it.
Which in my mind is a god reason to buy it. I own a 2016 Limited Hybrid and the thing rides like a dream, quiet and smooth. Ive been in more than a few Camry's and the ride is much different. Much prefer the quietness and smoothness of the Avalon on long rides. I've got 91K currently and plan on keeping her to 300K.
Many reasons...the SUV craze is one, but the other is 'The Internets' have educated people to let them know that the Avalon is the Lexus EX...so...if youre going to pay, why not pay for the top, and not the middle model. A lowest trim EX is still better, or at least perceived to be better, than an Avalon. My wife was in the market and test drove a 2020 Avalon and an EX, and the 'niceness' wasnt even close. the EX came home with us.
Assume you mean ES. You’ll be okay until you see how much the service difference is between the Avalon and ES. Same car, same parts, but get the excessive cost badge because it is a Lexus. I had a 2019 ES 350 F-Sport. Now have a 2020 Avalon TRD. Love them both. But total cost of ownership on that Lexus is ridiculous for just maintenance for the same car and engine as the ES.
@@Jcom3030 because I've rented toyota Avalons and hybrids, I'm considering getting one, price and overall economy are considerations. I've shopped online, there are very few on the market nearby, and of course I want one in excellent condition
I love those cars. I just bought one of the last of the 2022 Avalons on July 16th, mostly because I loved how reliable the two previous ones I owned were. I bought my first one in 2007, (a Limited 2007 addition, (sport package with a little over 3000 miles on it), but it was totaled when l was hit from behind in a hit and run accident in July 2018, while driving ride-share. At the time it had over 143k miles of regularly scheduled, maintenance miles on it. In other words, it was a good reliable riding, paid-off car, that l could’ve gotten many more thousands of miles from. Two weeks later I bought a 2019, but sold it in March 2022 to Carmax in Atlanta for a $6,400 profit after payoff. The sale was only done because that offer was unexpectedly higher than a just completed previous payoff profit check of only about $1750 from one of their chief competitor. Because of my age (65), this should be my last car purchase.

I drive a 2016 Avalon Limited Hybrid in the custom dark blue color. I'm always getting complements on the color and body style, even the "sad face" grill. Little do they know it's already six years old. They love the legroom in the passenger seat and the huge trunk. Even with the N-M-HY battery in the front wall of the trunk, I can still get four sets of clubs and golf shoes in there quite easily.
It's a great car, but sedans are too expensive to buy brand new. By the time most people are worth enough to easily afford a $36,000 car, they either want something luxury (which they could buy used), or they need an SUV (cos they now have kids).
Great video, thanks. I bought my first Toyota, a 2020 Avalon touring used. I love this car! It really looks different, and I only had it for a month; I have not seen another Avalon on the road! You know how you always see other drivers in the same car, well I have not and that makes me feel great. It looks like every third car I see on the roads is a Camry when I can see around all the SUVs and pick-up trucks. I traded in my 2017 Ford Fusion. The Fusion had the 2.0 Turbo, which was faster than the Avalon. The Fusion was also smoother riding. I believe this is because my Avalon has 19" wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport 4s tires. These are those low-profile tires that are much more stiff than traditional tires that have higher sidewalls. Sales were down because of the price in my opinion. You can buy a SUV or a Camry for less than the Avalon. I'm happy with mine!

I bought a 2022 Avalon Hybrid Limited today. I went shopping for a 2022 ES350 and after I drove it I was really disappointed in the lack of acceleration. I was about to leave and the sales guy showed me the Avalon. Smaller engine but quick off the line, packed with tech that I will probably not use but comfortable and large. The potential for 43 mpg was sealed the deal. I traded my 2013 MB S550 4Matic- greatest car I've ever owned but turning into a money pit. Time will tell if I made a mistake.
A friend of mine had one and I was always a little jealous cuz I couldn't afford one. I had to settle for the Mazda Millenia, which was nice and more reasonably priced. Do you think maybe Toyota killed the Avalon with all the Lexus sedans that are a little similar to the Avalon? Seems like Lexus models started to overlap with the Avalon. Just a thought. Thanks for the video.
I have 2006 Avalon with 280k + miles and I still love it. There is overlap between Lexus ES and Avalon with small price diff and many choose to go with Lexus. Sedan is executive and premium ride you can’t expect from SUVs
Ease of access for an aging demographic is probably the primary reason why sedan sales are declining. I almost went with the Lexus RX350 suv but preferred the handling of my Avalon. I also get over 31 mpg which is amazing for a 301 hp sedan. I love the power and the comfort and the Touring model has everything that I want along with Toyota reliability.
I have a 2018 Avalon and really love it. I think sales are falling because people want SUV's and Trucks rather than a sedan. Nothing wrong with it, just customer changing preferences.
That’s right everything is SUV’s and trucks there’s nothing wrong I love mines 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰is in mint green leather interior and everyone falls in love with it Love the way it drives and very reliable comfortable car even the back seats declines for long traveling mines is a 2,07 XLS 6 cylinder no scratches or rust like new I Love it 🥰 😬😬😬😬😬😬👌
Tesla inc just registered for the trademark "The Greatest Car Ever." Very, very interesting. Brilliant marketing move for the entire brand.
Eventually people will switch back to cars. It is inevitable. It has happened before. It will happen again.
Nah, they just got the camry. Including me
@@GetRICH_or_GetWhooped Camry is just not the same quality.
I have seen some new V6 Camry's cost more than a new Avalon XLE... It's just a matter of preference. I rather have a top trim Camry..
@@charlesjackson1700 Do doubt, but at the time, the 95 Avalon was significantly larger in the back seat. It's a bit smaller now.
@@LyleFrancisDelp was a smart mans LS400
Still drive 95 avalon today
Nothing wrong with this car.
i also have a 2005 limited. love it
I agree, my 2006 Limited, built in 2005 has everything including radar cruise .
This is not so true about younger upcoming drives
I think the end of the Avalon was planned obsolescence, priming the public for the planned "Crown" models appearance changes; so that the dramatic styling changes didn't come as extreme shock to consumers.
I've had 2 Camrys and 1 Avalon. The Avalon is a much better car and is worth the difference in price.
I have an Av and love it.
Not luxurious enough for flagship model and also competing with much refined and smooth Lexus ES350.
Relax, ... the all NEW "Crown" is coming to the rescue

That's a shitshow
@csharpe3949
Finally, someone else gets it.
The best car I ever had was Avalon
I am hoping its not to late to order it
I bought the same model, I'm 19 lol
I own a 2015 avalon xle and I am 32 yrs old with 2 kids, best car i have ever owned! Owned it since 2020 and no problems, no regrets. 😊
My 05 avalon has over 200K on it and it runs and feels like a car with 50K on it.
My criteria are
1) Large cabin (I'm 6ft 5) tall and big guy (340lbs)
2) Good fuel economy
3)Good tech ( the tech isn't great but its passable)

Exactly my thoughts, nobody knows about the Avalon it should have been marketed and reviewed more
A lot of people were surprised to know that the Avalon was being made up until 2022. Since moving to the ES chassis in 2013, I knew then that the writing was on the wall for the Avalon, a stellar, superior product to the ES. Toyota hasn't really tried to market the Avalon for years because they know they can easily make between $5-15k more on the ES.
I have the same yr and tier and i have a question, my battery dies about every year, is this normal?
I have a 2020 XSE Hybrid and love a full size car that gets 40 mpg and I love the sporty ride. My 3rd Avalon and I will keep this one for a long time since they’re not making them anymore. Truly under appreciated car.
bought a used 2018 Lexus ES last year we really wanted a Avalon but there was a clear night and day difference in ride comfort, seat comfort and road noise after test driving 3 different ES and 3 different Avalons, and chose the ES and we even got an fully loaded ES for $7000 less with same mileage and condition
Dave at 3:03 into video you stated it has 301 hp V8. That's NOT CORRECT my friend. It's a V6. I see at 3:36 you stated V6 correctly, THANKS 😊
Also he mentioned the Avalon started in 2005..wrong! How about 1995. He must’ve just woke up from a nap or something or got his notes mixed up haha
I have a 2013 Avalon Limited. It is the best car I have ever owned. Never had any problems or issues(81,000 miles). Sad to see it discontinued.

Love It.
I feel the same !!

I love my 2015 Toyota Avalon hybrid.
People like heavy, gas guzzling, unreliable cars.
i swear all it would take is a creative commercial of a crisp sedan doing circles around the thousands of new SUVs people are buying
Story checks out.
Bought a 2000 avalon in 2002 had 23000 miles I drove it until 2014 it had almost 200000 miles my son still has it and the mileage is 269000 water pump is the only thing that has been replaced. Fantastic car
😏 nice mileage. 👍
269,000. I hope it get up to 420,000 miles. 😉

It is the best car I have ever driven. I just love my Avalon. It has great pickup entering I 95 and it is a comfortable car to drive on long trips. I am sorry to see the Avalon disappear.
Why buy an expensive Lexus when you get the same car in an Avalon.
I had an 06 Avalon fully loaded(had a tape player lol)...traded it for a 2019 Avalon hybrid limited...both amazing in different ways
We all know. When I recently worked at a Toyota dealership, they have TRD Avalon and TRD CAMRY parked next to each other on the show pads out front. Same size, same options, same price. When the Camry became the same size of the Avalon is what killed it. 😓😢
No way they are the same size
Thanks for your information you gave us on the Toyota Avalon. My wife and I have only one since late 2017 and it’s a 2018 model. The vehicle has been flawless and we hate to see it get old because we can’t replace it with anything of equal value. By the way you mentioned that the newer Avalon came with a 301 hp motor V8. It wasn’t a V-8. It was a V6 with 301 hp. Just an FYI.
The best avalon is Gen 3....I own 2, 2012, & 2006... best cars..
.
No avalon had v8...unfortunately
@@marcnotarianni1889 thank God, I hate Camry
For me, it was
The worst year (because of the inferior/rough ride).
If you can find a used one with low mileage JUMP ON IT. I have a 2020 TRD.. it's a dream.
I just bought a 2022 avalon hybrid limited and love it. Great handling, comfort anc fuel economy.
The problem is having the Lexus ES and the Avalon on the same price bracket 😅
One word to describe the main reason I bought a 2017 avalon. RELIABLE

I think it's becasue people prefer the Camry and if they want a high end Toyota, they just buy the Lexus instead.
Reliable engine is why people love them,
I have a 2002 Avalon.
I'm happy no one wants it. Bc I want a 19-22 Avalon, and I know it'll be at a super discounted price.
I’ve never seen or heard any ads for the Avalon in many, many years.
In the process of customizing my '03 Toyota Avalon XLS now. Thinking about getting it licensed by the FAA since when I push that gas pedal down, it nearly gets airborne leaping off the ground. Love this car!
Lol
2005 is absolutely NOT the first year for the North American Avalon. They were first offered in 1994 for the 1995 model year. Your research person has fallen asleep at the wheel, so to speak. This error in your part takes away your credibility, unfortunately. That’s too bad. Great video otherwise.
I have a 99 Avalon with 167k miles. Runs like Jack the Bear. If anyone doesn't like their vehicle, make me an offer I can't refuse. These are great cars.
got an 03 with 240k still running like a champ. Would never get rid of it 👍
I bought a new 2006 Avalon and put 100k miles on it. It was such a great car with absolutely zero problems. I assume it's being replaced by the Crown.
That's it. The Crown
I would weigh out Crown vs Avalon
My stepmom put roughly 250k miles on hers with relatively no issues. Bought a new one, gave the old one to a sibling... that thing may still be kicking today. Excellent cars
I think the Crown is rather ugly. Love that panoramic roof though!
3:00 V6 not V8!
I purchased a 2006 Avalon and was extremely happy with it. The problem exterior front started changing as well as the overall length.
I bought a 2005 Toyota Avalon Limited last and fell in love with it. I'm keeping it for good.
I have a 2013 Avalon and it’s great!

2) Swoopier roofline which effectively negates the one purpose most people have to buy a sedan (carry 4 people comfortably)
3) Lack of headroom.
I have 2001 with over 300K miles. Hope it lasts till 400K miles.
08/30/2023 : I just purchased an '06 Avalon Limited with 107K on it
You misspoke....it doesn't come with v-8.....just v-6
I can’t agree with your assessment the Avalon in the snow. Perhaps the tires were the culprit?
@@thomasgodfrey758 Don't know. Had the factory tires on it and I can drive anything in the snow, but it doesn't give me a warm fuzzy when driving in it.
@@Jbmacrone it definitely sounds like the tires. I upgraded to a sports touring BF Goodrich tire and it not only greatly enhanced my driving experience but the car is rock solid in all kinds of inclement weather.
@@thomasgodfrey758 will have to give those a try when the current ones wear out. Thanks.
I have Toyota Avalon 2013 hybrid and 500k miles still driving like new nobody is gonna trust me but this is the best car I have ever

Have you had to replace the hybrid battery pack? Wife's 2013 has 115000 miles and still gets the same gas mileage as when new 40-41 mpg.
@@bogieman101 yes I did once about 635k miles now
I ALWAYS wanted one but the dealership price was as MUCH as a HELLCAT...
I love the Avalon, I have a 2005 with 276,000 miles and she still run good , I think those the best years for the Avalon.
These cars are incredible. The best sedan outside of a luxury badged vehicle.
The TRD MODEL also is a very good looking car.
I had a 16. Just got a 20 limited. It’s amazing. Got every option ❤️
At 3:02 in your video, you said that the Avalon had V-8. Toyota Avalons have never had a V-8 engine.
Sorry to hear the Avalon was discontinued. It was on my list for a new car in the next 2 years.
The good news is that it'll be a killer used car buy for years to come, partly for one reason it's always been: Its old and conservative first owners never beat on it.
I bought a 2002 Avalon new in 2002. It was made in Japan. I still have it and I love it. Fantastic car. Very reliable and comfortable.
I have 2001 and yes, it drives well😉
Nothing is wrong with it. People just aren’t buying large sedans any more. And it’s just a stretched Camry.
@@dmcmaster3544 I'm one who also prefers large sedans to crossovers and SUVS. I never owned an Avalon. But it's a great car.
I everyone I Love my 213 Toyota Avalon it's super reliable and smooth and fast 😎
Hey first great video keep up the great work!
You said they started in 2005 but really they started it in 1995.
Sure did because I drove a 95 Avalon for years
It’s not selling because the Camry has become so much like the Avalon that for the price it doesn’t make sense financially
You can also get a Camry with a V6, but not with AWD.
I just bought a used 2015 Avalon hybrid and I love it it’s the closest you can get to a luxury car without having to buy premium gas
What is your mpg? was it the original battery? how many miles was on it? How much did you pay?😂
@@lilyroza why 😂?
Your age is young nowadays, you could easily be looking at at least two more vehicle purchases in the future.
I have 2 of them, a 2020 and 2021 love em, people realize how nice they are.

Yep. Agree poor sales. Similar to the story of the Solara
Maybe if it wasn't as ugly as a mud fence. I don't think even Pontiac had that much ugly plastic on a car.
I have a 2021 Avalon . I think it’s the best car I have owned. It has a great ride, decent regular gas mileage , powerful engine ,
I missed the bench front seat Avalon had.
This lamb concurs.
The Avalon shrinks every model. I don’t consider a full size car anymore.

I wish I had one, now if I want one, I have to buy it used
A friend of mine had one and I was always a little jealous cuz I couldn't afford one.
Problem with the Avalon it's not that much bigger than the Camry, it needs to have a huge trunk and a much bigger back seat to differentiate the two
Ease of access for an aging demographic is probably the primary reason why sedan sales are declining. I almost went with the Lexus RX350 suv but preferred the handling of my Avalon. I also get over 31 mpg which is amazing for a 301 hp sedan. I love the power and the comfort and the Touring model has everything that I want along with Toyota reliability.
Bingo. This is why the renamed Avalon, the Crown, is silly tall.
