I feel like I got so lucky breastfeeding. He latched from the first time very successfully, and only had to apply nipple cream at the hospital (the cream they gave me) and never had any chafing or blisters or anything. I feel so thankful 🙏🏻
To all the breastfeeding mamas out their you have your own nipple cream, and that is your breast milk. Whenever your nipples are cracked just put some of your milk on your nipples. It saves money😉
I’m breastfeeding for the first time and it’s HARD! I’m six weeks in and my son only recently started latching without a nipple shield. He was born almost three weeks early and somehow we couldn’t do it before. I’m so happy we persevered though. For everybody in doubt, don’t give up unless you want to, a lactation specialist will be able to help you. Take care!
Great tips! One thing I wasn’t aware of was cluster feeding! My baby girl latched on for 5 1/2 hours straight on day two. I was exhausted and in pain and she wouldn’t let go. My husband was my biggest support and my nursing consultant just kept reminding me this is what the baby wanted. This cluster feeding really helped me with my milk flow.
Same, we use wide mouth mugs, and near boiling water. Just swirl it around every once and a while... in a few you’re good. Can be annoying when baby is only consolable by milk.
My husband figured out a great way to do this but in seconds. If you have a metal container (we use the pourer for frothing milk) and you place this in the water bath, the metal conducts the heat and warms the milk in about 10 seconds. Really helpful if the baby is crying and you want to hurry :)
instead of buying a milk warmer my mom and aunts would just boil hot water and put it in a tall container and put the milk bottle in it and let it sit and warm up to a good temp. saves money and is actually efficient.
Right?! I just watched another woman breastfeeding, for educational purposes. I am pretty sure the woman forgot she had a baby latched on to her; she was too busy checking her makeup. There is a way to keep up with your appearance/care about makeup without coming across as superficial, and Susan accomplishes this brilliantly. I went off on a tangent there, but yeah, Susan is totally calming and comforting!
That’s some great info ! I have been exclusively pumping because my baby didn’t latch . I have some videos on that and will soon post about what not to go immediately after birth if you want your baby to latch ... What my Channel is all about! th-cam.com/video/ldCQDCtYwP0/w-d-xo.html
This video was so helpful and relatable. It made me feel like I wasn’t alone in this journey. It gave me great insight on things I can do to improve my experience. Great video!!
I used to work in a nursery and one parent would bring in breastmilk for us to give to their baby. What we would do is boil some water in a kettle, pour it into a mug/bowl then let the bottle of breastmilk sit in it, slowly heating up - worked great for me!
I'd say..get one of those electric tea pots. It'll heat water fast, you can let his bottle sit in a container with hot water around it and enjoy a cup of tea as you wait. Win-win
I agree. You can just use hot tap water in a cup or thaw at room temperature too if you aren’t in a rush. Some babies prefer cool or room temp milk anyway.
Breastfeeding or pumping isn't always easy and there is definitely a huge learning curve in the beginning with your first baby, but it's so worth it for your little one!
Elizabeth Vaughn I’m updating it a little with my second who is due in a month! I’m for sure getting the Boppy Lounger again, gonna re-use the snuggleme and the miracle blankets, and I’m adding babywear products this time around as must-haves (looking at Sakura Bloom-pricey, but I found slings were easier to use and I like the style of their carriers for newborns). Also, everyone has told me the magnetic onesies are amazing, so those will be a new addition along with the Doona car seat/stroller. Good luck!!
We use the kiinde bottle warmer. It's pretty awesome. And just a suggestion. You might want to look into glass bottles? The fat content in the milk doesn't really stick to the side of the glass bottles and you want that fat content for the baby!
This video is awesome! I’ve failed breastfeeding with both my boys and now I understand why!!! I’m pregnant now with baby number 3 and I feel so much more confident. Thank you so much for this video!
I had frequent plugged ducts, and lecithin was a LIFESAVER for me! I would still do all the other things, but the lecithin was the thing that really worked for me.
M due in September with my first baby and I don’t know the first rule about breastfeeding and baby care...this video was so helpful for me..❤️ although I have tons to learn n feel slightly daunted by the task ahead..I hope to see more helpful videos from u :)
This is by far the best video I've seen for breastfeeding...in fact I watched your newborn must haves....subscribed and loovve your videos. So informative. Love how u don't ramble, to the point that and extremely helpful! Thanks!!
Just wanted to correct what you said in the video. Milk only comes out of the holes in the nipple itself. not the areola! latching them onto the areola properly is to stimulate the ducts around the breast
To warm your milk you can simply use a cup or bowl filled with hot water from the sink! You may have to dump out and refill the water mid way through warming but it works perfectly 👍😊 you can also microwave the water to get it nice and hot without worrying about the milk being microwaved- because you won't be doing that! Thanks for the video- love the sound of that German formula, never heard of it before 😁
This is such a helpful video thank you so much! Watching this during Covid, all my classes have been canceled and baby is due in August so its nice to have these types of videos to still learn from!
My sister in law use traditional way to warm up the milk. She poured warm (or hot) water into a small bowl and put the milk bottle in the middle of it. Soon the heat were transfered from hot water to the milk in the bottle. Hope that help! ;)
I'm from the Philippines, and the best help you with breastmilk is Malunggay or Moringa. It's very organic and has a lot of benefits. You can get in capsules, you can check organic section of your drug store. Maybe they have. Research on it too to learn more about it.
I wanted to share a tip just in case somebody have had the same problem...Like Susan I had a C section and i immediately started breastfeeding with colostrum, my milk came at the 3rd day and i had this huge engorgement under my arms really painful bc i have breast tissue in there, but the point was the best solution for that was a hot shower massaging the area, also i realized when I pumped that the milk wasn't coming out and got really frustrated till i try to squeeze my nipples to open them, i know it's painful but it really made a difference...milk was flowing like crazy, so if anybody is having issues don't forget discarding clogged nipples. Thank you Susan for your tips
Abigail Wilson you'll be surprised how naturally things start coming to you. You learn sooooo much in the first few days so you'll be absolutely fine 😊
so cute watching Nikash fall asleep during this video :D Great info! The my brest friend pillow is a MUST HAVE Also, you don't need a milk/bottle warmer - just fill a big plastic cup with hot tap water and stick your bottle of milk in it for a few minutes. Perfect temp every time!
I'm 4 weeks in and have struggled nearly every day. I just got a My Brest Friend pillow and I think it just saved our BFing 😭😭😭 Poor posture was leading to bad latching which lead to cracked nips which lead to thrush. Pain, pain, pain. Lordy I pray it's smooth sailing from here on out.
I can underline EVERYTHING! Thank you 🙏 You're so wonderful and positive and pretty and an awesome mom! Bless you! But: I have the feeling the lecatine works for me! Haven't had any clogged ducts anymore and had them all the time before. 🙌
loved this video. hot shower focusing on the breasts while massaging also works well. I like generally warmer showers and try and spend a little time in the shower just letting the water flow whilst massaging.
Is there a reason you are wanting to quit around the 6 month mark? The WHO recommends breastfeeding until 2 years old - that being said, any amount of breastmilk is amazing and I’m glad to hear you’re chugging along!
This video really has filled me with confidence, thank you!! I went so wrong with my first regarding the latch, & didn’t feel I had the right support system around me to continue, so I exclusively pumped for 2 months till my milk dried up... but I’m now 6 weeks away from giving birth and feeling positive about trying again and succeeding 😃
Dr Brown has a good bottle warmer! I have to bottle feed occasionally too and it's the only one I've tried and liked!! All the other ones suck. No pun intended. 😂
I just had my baby 8 days ago and I pumped 2 days after he was born... I didn’t have a lot of milk and breast feeding was SOOO painful! I was pumping only only .5 oz each 20 minute session now 5 days later I’m pumping 4 oz. each session... def increased my flow!!!
Thank you so much for this. My son is 15 months and I still breastfeeding regularly, it just feels natural and normal, but I have gotten a lot of pressure from outside sources that make me feel embarrassed sometimes. My daughter is nearly three and I try to breastfeed her when I feel she needs an extra boost and the reaction from my grandmother makes me want to cry...so I appreciate this because it helps remind me what I'm doing is what is good for my babies.
I just started my first time mommy TH-cam channel and I stumbled upon this video while I was struggling to breastfeed at the beginning! Thanks for all the tips
Very helpful. I've got a 16 month old and stopped breastfeeding at three months because of low milk supply. I am definitely going to try again though with my next baby. I'm pretty tall so I was using two my brest friend pillows doubled up for better posture and back support.
Hey mama! Hang in there. Reach out to an IBCLC for support. Most medical insurance companies in the USA will cover up to 6 visits with a lactation consultant (IBCLC).
Hi I love this video, I just started breast feeding for my newborn and find this very motivating and helpful. I just wanted to know if you were still breast feeding, if not, how did you stop your milk supply?
Kiinde Kozii warmer is highly recommended for breast milk. A little pricey but worth it! It takes a little longer to warm up but that's because if you warm it too quickly or at a high temperature you will lose the nutrients in the breast milk. I really loved ours!
Thanks for posting your tips. I'm pregnant with my third. Never breastfed my other two. Determined to breastfeed this one for the first 6 months at least. I've been feeling apprehensive. I found your insight very helpful. I feel like now I have a much more realistic outlook and can better manage my expectations. Once again, Thank-you!!
actually its just getting as much as possible in their mouth and pain is never a part of breastfeeding if its painful its wrong. and you can trigger a rooting reflex by rubbing your nipple close to baby's mouth they instinctively open wide for an easier latch. lecithin does work but not noticibly because it makes milk flow better so no plugged ducts no mastitis girls who have chronic mastitis are prescribed it because once they get the right dose they don't get mastitis anymore. and breast milk can be served cold some babies prefer cold milk in a bottle
Just found your channel I just posted a video on the silicone catcher i use its a MUST HAVE FOR BREASTFEEDING! My daughter is 10 weeks old our second child, we have a 2 1/2 almost 3 yr old. I am still breastfeeding my son occasionally and of course EBF my daughter! I was breastfeeding my son when I got pregnant and did so until she was born I didn't have to sore nipples etc in the beginning with her like I did with first baby!
My colostrum was a custardy-yellow colour, not clear.. I thought it was the same for everyone? Our LO is 5 days old, on day 3 I had to give my nipples a break cause we were both falling asleep as he was feeding and he ended up pulling on the nipple. Felt like someone was rubbing dirt onto a burn D: thankyou for this vid, it's super helpful 😊
Actually before my baby was breast feeding my colostrum was clear but then it changed to a rich yellow as soon as he started to latch onto my breast and feed properly .
colostrum and milk are like mother nature kind of a special drink for the babies. I heard that it can changes itself to support the needs of the baby, like if he has a flu or something. So I guess the color changes with it too!
I use stainless steel baby bottles for my two week old daughter , I use a pot of water on the stove and just let it get warm enough to start to stem then pore that into a cup and place the bottle in it for a few minuets .
I learn so much with all your videos. Is there a way you do a video about how to use the Brest friend pillow. I have it and I like your pointers so now I know how it post to be on you. Thank you
Hi susan even I gone through c section surgery, my son is going to be 4 month but my stomach still look like I am 4 month pregnant please make video on how to get back to shape after C section surgery..
6 months - 12 months is the BEST time to breastfeed. They are so much faster at getting the milk out and it makes that first 6 months (which was hard for me) totally worth it.
I agree with you about most bottle warmers, they suck! It's kind of expensive but the kiinde (hope I'm spelling that right) bottle warmer is very good in my opinion. Love your videos!! ❤️
Do you have any storage tips? How long to keep? How much to store up? What to store the milk in? I have the comotomo bottles, but just curious should pump directly in them? Etc. thx!!
I just get a big measuring cup that’s microwave safe. I put water in it and microwave it for a couple minutes. After I take it out I leave the bottle in it for a couple minutes and I’m done. It’s easy, cheap and works better than most warmers.
You’re my new favorite youtuber your videos are so good I’m an expecting mommy to be (17 weeks and 2 days!!) and it’s just good to have a knowledgeable women to lead the way! Also your son is so adorable!! 😍
To warm a bottle or thaw frozen milk i would put a bowl of water in the microwave and then put the bottle in the hot water and let it sit for a while. When thawing frozen milk I had to take the jar out and microwave the bowl of water a couple times and put the jar back into hot water until fully thawed. I was told that bottle warmers are too hot for breastmilk....like degrades the quality of the milk (proteins, nutrients etc.) and they may even be questionably hot for formula.
Im so happy that i bumped to this channel. So informative about breastfeeding 🤱. Thanks Susan, really help as this is my first born this October. Love 💕 from Malaysia
Thanks for the video. After going to a bunch of safe sleep classes, my suggestion is to not let baby sleep on anything. Baby should be flat on back, in a crib, with no blankets.
To warm up the milk I always boil some water put it in a coffee mug and put the bottle of milk in the hot water for a few mins that way it’s not too hot or too cold
Susan do you have any video on skincare(acne+blackheads) while breastfeeding? There are so many products you can not use I just don"t know anymore what to use to control my acne :(
Loved this video! I'm not due for a while but I've been doing lots of research about all things baby! I plan to breast feed and this video was very helpful!
Apparently there's research that the risk of painful nipple trauma is way less if you don't push their head or force their face or anything like that. For the first feed, you just put them in the general area and let them 'play with their food' for hours and let them work it out. Gently reposition their body as needed, but don't poke their mouth or shove their face or even put your hand behind their head. Apparently when people do it gently instead of forcefully, they're statistically much less likely to get painful nipple trauma.
I feel like I got so lucky breastfeeding. He latched from the first time very successfully, and only had to apply nipple cream at the hospital (the cream they gave me) and never had any chafing or blisters or anything. I feel so thankful 🙏🏻
can u tell us the name of the cream?
To all the breastfeeding mamas out their you have your own nipple cream, and that is your breast milk. Whenever your nipples are cracked just put some of your milk on your nipples. It saves money😉
Yuuus. I always just wipe my nipples with breastmilk after a feed
I’m breastfeeding for the first time and it’s HARD! I’m six weeks in and my son only recently started latching without a nipple shield. My milk warmer is hot water in a bowl. Only takes a couple minutes if you swirl the bottle in the water and it's free!
Same, we use wide mouth mugs, and near boiling water. Just swirl it around every once and a while... in a few you’re good. Can be annoying when baby is only consolable by milk.
Same! I put a bottle or bag in a cup and let hot water run from the sink in it.
My husband figured out a great way to do this but in seconds. If you have a metal container (we use the pourer for frothing milk) and you place this in the water bath, the metal conducts the heat and warms the milk in about 10 seconds. Really helpful if the baby is crying and you want to hurry :)

Felisa.k I did the same.
Hot water destroys the nutrients in the milk
Also putting boiling water on plastic is generally bad. Can release chemicals, or deform it.
Thats what i do it works perfect
@@Hawkknight88 So how do you sterilize your bottles then?
Theres just something about Susan that is so comforting that she can even make breastfeeding videos enjoyable to watch lol
Haha. That's good to know! 🤗

I'm so glad to hear that! You are not alone. That's for sure!
Please pray for my baby he’s at the NICU 😔
Hope he's doing better! How are you guys holding up?
Allah helps u
U r baby Will be definitely fine and healthy very soon dear stay strong for u r baby
Everything will be alright don't worry.
Thank you all so much.. He is doing great 8 months old now I can’t believe it
I used to work in a nursery and one parent would bring in breastmilk for us to give to their baby. What we would do is boil some water in a kettle, pour it into a mug/bowl then let the bottle of breastmilk sit in it, slowly heating up - worked great for me!
Roisin Judd Good tip!
I did the same when our little needed a bottle 👍
I like this because she's not talking about all the perfect ways she was breastfeeding, but trial and errors that she made and helpful tips.
Colostrum is early, concentrated breast milk, so it is considered breast milk. By day 2-3 colostrum becomes mature milk and increase in volume.
Excellent video. I've been an obstetrical nurse for 44 years.....And This is a great video for us average new moms. Beautifully done. Thanks!
I'd say..get one of those electric tea pots. It'll heat water fast, you can let his bottle sit in a container with hot water around it and enjoy a cup of tea as you wait. Win-win
Alisonuemura Great idea!
Alisonuemura So true! I've been breastfeeding for 11 months now and this was one of the most efficient ways for me to warm up milk.
I remember watching this with my first baby 2 years ago. Watching it again with my second who is due TOMORROW!! ❤

Same.
GREAT info!!! I'm a nutritionist and is terrible to see videos with complicated or point less tips that scared new moms. Besos desde México
Ish Muñoz There's just too much complicated info out there right?
Susan Yara Way too much, Im glad you are brave and keeping it simple. Congrats on your beautiful baby and the content of you channel!
This video was super helpful and makes me feel more confident with breastfeeding for the first time! Thank you 😊 💕

Iola f there are milk ducts in the areola. It's a misconception that milk only comes out of the nipple; it comes out of both the nipple and areola.
My milk comes out from aerola as well 😄
That's new.. Mine never did that with my first (shes 16 months)..
Iola f 7
No the milk comes from the 9-15 nipple holes

Congrats! There are many reputable resources online. Prenatal preparation is essential for breastfeeding success. Best of luck!
This is the best breastfeeding tips video I've seen yet. 2 1/2 weeks into breastfeeding and wish I watched this weeks ago. 👏🏼☺️
6 years later (having baby number 3) and i still come back to watch this specific video because of how short yet very informative it is ✨

I use coconut oil! Lacatation nurses suggested it. It helps me so much. It doesn't stain at all and its a natural antibacterial.
This video really helps, first time mom 2 weeks now and breastfeeding has been a complete struggle
Hey mama! Hang in there. Reach out to an IBCLC for support. Most medical insurance companies in the USA will cover up to 6 visits with a lactation consultant (IBCLC).

I was feeling very nervous on hearing so many horror stories on breastfeeding but you have put my fears at ease...thank you.
Hi I love this video, I just started breast feeding for my newborn and find this very motivating and helpful. I just wanted to know if you were still breast feeding, if not, how did you stop your milk supply?

Very Very Very HELPFUL , i’ll become a new mommy in 8 weeks... Thank You God Bless ♥️
My colostrum was a custardy-yellow colour, not clear.. I thought it was the same for everyone? Felt like someone was rubbing dirt onto a burn D: thankyou for this vid, it's super helpful 😊
Cyanide Sunny That’s correct, it is a yellow colour, not clear. 😊
Actually before my baby was breast feeding my colostrum was clear but then it changed to a rich yellow as soon as he started to latch onto my breast and feed properly .
I guess everyone is different .😄
colostrum and milk are like mother nature kind of a special drink for the babies. I heard that it can changes itself to support the needs of the baby, like if he has a flu or something. So I guess the color changes with it too!
All I use at work is a manual pump!!
Also tommee tippee bottle warmer and first starts are great!! The first starts one is super fast
I use stainless steel baby bottles for my two week old daughter , I use a pot of water on the stove and just let it get warm enough to start to stem then pore that into a cup and place the bottle in it for a few minuets .
This is soooooo helpful and encouraging. I was ready to give up.
Thanks! My baby is 11 months . Wish I saw this earlier before I struggled and had post partum depression
Loved how easy and relatable your tips are!
They are so much faster at getting the milk out and it makes that first 6 months (which was hard for me) totally worth it.
kat I've noticed he's getting better and better at it. He latches like it no biggie!
Do you have any tips for keeping the baby awake while breastfeeding? That’s something i struggle with and i have tried everything i can think of.
What is the baby pillow your son is sleeping on? It looks very comfortable!
It's the boppy lounger
Paulita Munoz baby boppy lounger
I agree with you about most bottle warmers, they suck! It's kind of expensive but the kiinde (hope I'm spelling that right) bottle warmer is very good in my opinion. Love your videos!! ❤️
Currently breastfeeding and I'm bless to say no pain and no problems from the beginning
really helpful
Do you have any storage tips? How long to keep? How much to store up? What to store the milk in? I have the comotomo bottles, but just curious should pump directly in them? Etc. thx!!
I just get a big measuring cup that’s microwave safe. I put water in it and microwave it for a couple minutes. After I take it out I leave the bottle in it for a couple minutes and I’m done. It’s easy, cheap and works better than most warmers.
I really love your videos. I'm pregnant for the first time so I'm freaking out a bit but your videos are really helpful 😊
You’re my new favorite youtuber your videos are so good I’m an expecting mommy to be (17 weeks and 2 days!!) and it’s just good to have a knowledgeable women to lead the way! Also your son is so adorable!! 😍
Thank you so much! Congrats on the baby on board. :)
Susan Yara you’re welcome and thanks you!!
New subscriber here ✋🏽 ❤️ currently breastfeeding my 1 month baby atm and so far everything is doing great!
Mama Natural is great for baby info.
AntoniaLuvsYou I loooove mama natural. Well researched and great info that I can't find anywhere else.
Excellent advice and tips! I'm a first time mum and due in Sept. Thank you so much
Any link where can i buy those stuffs. Or the brand pls. Thank you. ❤️
That is the cutest baby I have ever seen! 😘😍
To warm up the milk I always boil some water put it in a coffee mug and put the bottle of milk in the hot water for a few mins that way it’s not too hot or too cold
Susan do you have any video on skincare(acne+blackheads) while breastfeeding? There are so many products you can not use I just don"t know anymore what to use to control my acne :(
Thank you for being so real. I am feeling a bit more confident on what to expect! Love the great new baby videos. Keep them coming!
Great video. I appreciate the tips! I'll have my 2nd baby in 3 weeks and never got the chance to BF my preemie son. This was super helpful.
Loved this video! I'm not due for a while but I've been doing lots of research about all things baby! I plan to breast feed and this video was very helpful!

What breast pump brand do you use or recommend? Thanks for all your help!!!
I’m on my third kid and this time I went with the baby breeze bottle warmer it was worth the money I love it.
Good tips. I taught parenting and it is recommended not to introduce pablum until 4-6 months…they often said 5-6 months.
The first years brand in Walmart has a good bottle warmer, love it
