    When my baby turned 4 months, her pediatrician said she could be introduced to solids 3 times a day. I didn’t think she was ready. So I waited until she was about 5 and half months. At 4 months I just started adding baby cereal to her milk. She’s almost 9 months now and I still spoon feed her with purées I make from steaming vegetables and blending them with some water until they get to the consistency I know my baby can eat it. It’s a process, as Emma said in the video. And if your baby doesn’t want to eat, don’t stress out! They are just exploring in the beginning. Their main source of nutrition is milk until 12 months of age. So just go with the flow! 🙂❤️
    Thank you, Emma! Your videos are better than my pediatrician’s advices sometimes. 🤭

      Our baby's doctor said the same thing. She took to solids pretty quick. She is almost 6 months and she is up to a whole tablespoon of oatmeal every morning and eating one whole container of puree of a fruit or veggie for lunch or dinner.

    I tried starting my baby on solids at 6 months but she just wasn’t interested and it made me get very discouraged. It took a long time for me to just let her go at her own pace. She’s 19 months old now and if I would’ve just been more relaxed about it, I would’ve seen that eventually she would come around when she was good and ready. Now I’m pregnant with baby #2 and I know what I need to focus on for myself.

      You can start slooooowly if they seem to be ready, if you give food and the tongue keeps throwing it out, not really spitting but more like a reflex, wait again two weeks and try again. Here child protection service may vome if u give anything but milk to a baby younger than 4 month😂 ( I believe that) ( just sometimes prescribed stuff if medically necessary)

My 23wk old twins weren't satisfied with their bottles anymore and were watching me eat and mimicking me eating so I've just started spoon feeding to see if they were ready. My son is, and his sister is interested but her tongue reflex is still not quite there but I'm giving her a little to get used to it. Going to start the baby led weaning once they get the hang of the eating motions.

    Thank you for all the informative videos. Please can you give info re the time line for weaning. Our 11 month old is eating a variety of food, but very tiny amounts and when it suits her. She has had very severe acid reflux and still struggles with digestion. What is an acceptable time period for her to adjust, we prefer letting her lead us, but would like guidance and reassurance as we are not comfortable with the current trend of reducing milk to force solids and having baby on mainly solids by the first birthday

    • @EmmaHubbard
      @EmmaHubbard  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! The time line to wean your little one really depends on your preference. At this age, I would suggest that you offer your little one solids before you offer her milk as she may naturally start to have more solids and then naturally gradually reduce the amount of milk she is having. I hope that helps!

    Good morning! Thank you so much for your guidance and videos! I have a question-my sweet boy started showing interest in food at around 3 months, so at his 4 month appointment his pediatrician gave the green light to start introducing solids. He LOVES them. It’s been so much fun to watch him enjoy new foods. I always nurse him before he gets any solids, and right now I’m giving him two solid meals a day (he is 5.5 months old), one late morning, and one after his last nursing of the day. My concern is that I’m giving him too many solids… I offer about 4 TBSP at each meal, and usually that’s plenty in the morning, but in the evening he is still open mouth wanting more. I haven’t offered more because I am afraid of giving him too much-should I follow his lead, or should I continue to limit how much he gets? (His evening meal usually has sweet potato, avocado, maybe some eggs, green beans, squash, some combination of this with added EBM just because I want him to have enough milk.) He is actually a pretty lean baby, and he is super active, rolling, bouncing and inch worming all over the place! I just want to make sure I’m doing what’s best for him. Thank you for your input!

    Hi Emma, thank you so much for all these very helpful uploads. My daughter is 7 months old, and we started introducing solid foods about a month ago. However she showed her rejection of the food by keeping her mouth shut or turning her head away, every time we tried, whether it was puree or finger food. We also tried BLW a few times. She would grab the food but would not try to put it in the mouth. If we eat in front of her, she would look at the food and reach out for it, but again she would not put it in her mouth and would reject our attempt of bringing the food to her mouth. Does this mean that she is not interested in the food?

      Hi Mikki! If your little one is showing these signs you still don't have to start solids straight away. I would recommend holding off until the little one is 6 months of age, as their oral motor, fine and gross motor skills are generally more developed at this age and this makes it easier to introduce solids.

    I am following a mixture of both the approaches, but my baby who is 7 month old seems to be just having two or three spoons and as we are not supposed to distract or force feed them
    Question arises on whether the nutritional requirements are met or not

    Hey Emma hope to have your thoughts on this. My baby is 4 months and is showing all the signs according to this video. Her pedia advised to give her juice and water. Can we do so?

    • @EmmaHubbard
      @EmmaHubbard  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      HI Mikki, juice is not something that we recommend in Australia under the age of 12 months of age. But in saying that, I always recommend checking back in with the Paediatrician to check why they are recommending juice as your Paed sees your little one in person.
      At 4 months of age you could introduce your little one to water using an open cup or straw cup, but it is mainly just exploratory at this point as formula or breast milk will provide their fluid intake.
      If you do decide to introduce these I recommend you watch this video to ensure you have the high chair set up appropriately, as 4 month olds generally need support to sit. th-cam.com/video/ewM5oQaxcZM/w-d-xo.html
      Hope that helps!

    What are your thoughts about starting rice cereal or oatmeal at 4 months? My pediatrician said to start the rice cereal at her 4 month checkup, but since then I've seen a lot of mixed reviews and opinions about starting that early. I have tried a very runny version (mostly breast milk) of the rice cereal and oatmeal and maybe half of it ends up actually eaten (the rest ends up on her or the bib lol).

    • @EmmaHubbard
      @EmmaHubbard  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi @Jennifer Reynolds as your little one's ped recommend you start at 4 months of age I would always follow their advice (as they saw your little one in person). f you are feeling uncomfortable starting at 4 months I would recommend you discuss this with your ped. And you could also ask why they recommended you start with rice cereal as you can start with any pureed food (which might be a little more tasty for your little one).
      If you do decide to start now, then at 4 months of age your little one is definitely going to need support (rolled up towel etc) to sit upright for mealtimes. So do make sure you check out this video to find out how you can set up the high chair to best support your baby: th-cam.com/video/ewM5oQaxcZM/w-d-xo.html.

      My little one will be four months old next week. Last week our pediatrician said I could start him on food now. I've started with the powdered rice cereal. In the mornings he gets a very liquidy version mixed with milk in his bottle. We wanted to see how his body took to it before giving him the correct ratio of powder to formula. So far no alergians and poops seem fine. So now we add a 1tps serving spoon fed in the evening with a drink bottle to help "wash it down" between every couple of spoons. So far he loves it, get's excited, mouth wide open and chomps down on the spoon. If I wait too long between spoonings he grunts and gets grumpy and reaches for the spoon lol. He had yet to eat the full 1tbs, he does let me know when he is finished with it by his gestures wether he is full gets board, or just wants the bottle now. There was a neurologist on the morning news last week that is done a study on the connections between nutrients and the babys brain development at certain stages of development. She says babys should be having dark leafy greens/broccoli/zucchini etc because of the lutein for eye/vision development starting at 4 months. As I've been reading and searching for the est things to start with there is just so much varying information between specialist/doctors and countries standards.

    Hi Emma,
    I love your videos. They are very informative. Thank you. My twin girls turned 6 months old few days back. My doctor advised to start solids twice a day- one at lunch time and other in the evening. He has given a diet plan and i am following that. My babies have not yet started sitting on high chair. I am spoon feeding them solids by making them sit on my legs. Please advise if that is ok. I let them sleep for about 14 hours in the day. Is that ok too?
    Thanks

    You mentioned giving an open cup, what are your views of a sippy cup, especially outside of meal times? Also I know that babies should still be drinking breast milk or formula for at least the first year, but how long should they be drinking from a bottle?

    Also , I really need a recommendation for her constipation because she’s solely on formula and not breast milk 😢 we don’t have prunes here where I live and pears aren’t in season , so I could really use some guidance ! Thanks doll

    Hi Emma,
    My baby is turning 6 months old tomorrow and is been recently started on solid foods. I am giving one thing a day and only in small amount for him to taste and feel the solid food. I want to start with finger foods instead of purée but bit concerned if it’s a chocking hazard or might make it uncomfortable as larger pieces might break from the finger foods especially since he is just introduced to solids and might not have a good coordination for swallowing except for liquids.
    In case if I start him on purée how difficult is it for babies to transition to finger foods from purée.
    Thanks!
    Pranita

    We started solids a couple weeks ago! Baby is doing great (6.5 months old). We are currently using the Upseat with a tray attached instead of a highchair. The website says this is acceptable, but I'm wondering your thoughts! Love your videos!

    • @EmmaHubbard
      @EmmaHubbard  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi @Leah Kathleen so great to hear your little one is doing great with eating the solids. My preference is always using a high chair because when in a good high chair the feet are supported by a foot rest, there is a 5 point harness for safety and the bub can sit at the dining table with all the family. Hope that helps!

    I’m confused though, is my baby considered 6 months at 6 legitimate months like Aug 9->Feb 9. Or when she hits 24 weeks? Are these guidelines based on 4 weeks per month or actual months?

    • @arielthecat6138
      @arielthecat6138 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can look up how to calculate your baby's months by looking it up on Google. There's a couple of websites that you can put your baby's birth date in and it will tell you all the months from there. Sorry if this response is late but this could be useful for other people asking the same question.
