I live in West Africa, where we all use tailors. You buy fabric in the market and take it to the tailor to describe what you want. You can buy trimming or other decorations or have embroidery done by the tailor. Some trends come along, but everyone puts their own unique touches on their clothes. Everyone has a personalized style. I especially like your last tip about dressing for your true life with a touch of fantasy.
My mom had a bunch of her clothing made in this way in the Philippines before she moved to the U.S. This one shirt she handed down to me, it is a tailored short sleeve cotton henley (sort of like a polo with a crew neck instead of a collar) with French news headlines printed on it, and the buttons that are on the shirt are made of real coconut wood. I love it so much, and I wish this kind of culture was normalized here.
Yes please! This is exactly what I need right now. My lifestyle is fairly domestic and mundane - work at home, house chores, gardening, errands - and my wardrobe has gotten SO boring! I need practical but I want pretty. :D
One challenge that I face is, I love dressing up but most of the time I go out for grocery shopping or hiking apart from office. I wonder if you would like to show how to leverage your style and yet not look overdressed. Especially in 2020 this is a big challenge! Thank you
I feel ya. Just don't have many occasions, to 'dress up' atm. Plus...I mostly need practical, comfortable clothes. Especially now that it's getting cold and wet outside. Oh, the struggle.
@georgiana smith I just purchased a Talbot’s 100% cashmere sweater for $12 on Poshmark. Granted, that was very low but you can still find some great prices. Treat yourself to one nice sweater and enjoy it. Life is short!
@georgiana smith Mercari is another place I’ve found good deals!! And never take the price the seller listed- always make an offer, they almost always take it!
That’s the best thing (for me)- dressing up and looking so snazzy but being at the grocery store. Or at the doctors office. Makes me feel like I’m Midge in the show Marvelous Mrs Maisel. Life is hard, you have to just enjoy it anyway you can😉
I also love dressing up to go nowhere. I like to look nice, makes me feel nice. And more productive. It’s hard to sit on the couch in high waisted pants.
Audrey I can really see a difference in the changes you are making to your style. You look refreshed, youthful, and current. Your outfits really look exciting yet classic, made to last. You look great in color! Keep it up!
I love your tip about going to the tailor. I’ve learnt to sew over the past couple of months as a way to pass the time while staying inside so much, and it’s been such a game changer. I’ve shortened all my trousers to fit me perfectly and it’s almost as if I got new ones, I can style them so differently now since I don’t have to roll them up. I highly recommend giving sewing a go if you have access to a sewing machine, it’s a lot of fun and it’s another way to customise your clothes (or even make your own!)
@@monaaltaweel9439 I‘m completely self-taught, I simply dusted off my mum‘s old sewing machine and had a go at it. There’s a lot of great content on TH-cam from really basic tutorials to full-on sew-alongs. It can be frustrating sometimes because it is not an easy craft, but it is so rewarding as well. I recently made a dress using a sewing pattern and it’s my favourite thing in my wardrobe at the moment!
Same here! I have sewn on and off since I first learned when I was young, and have been doing simple modifications (e.g. - taking in bootcut jeans along the leg seams to turn them into skinny jeans) for years, about a year ago, I decided to try altering the waist of jeans. I've always had the problem of jeans that fit well in the legs being gaping and huge in the waist :-(. So, after watching some YT tutorials on how to do this, it has been a complete game-changer for me! I can now buy jeans at the thrift store for a few dollars - some of which are nice name brands - and tailor them so they fit perfectly for my waist. I've also altered shirts to be more fitted, a blazer, some skirts, and a vintage wool coat that I have been carting around for probably 20 years and never wore. There are so many awesome sewing DYI channels here on YT - one of my favorites is Blueprint DYI. She inspired me to take a pair of striped, cropped pants and turn them into a pair of Bermuda length shorts with pleats.
Sewing is not my thing. My mom used to sew, but I can remember avoiding sewing in home economics in school and opting for cooking instead. Anyway, I used to shop wholesale in NYC’s garment center. This was a great advantage, however, most of the clothing had to be tailored. Now, I find myself living in a rural town in Virginia where not many appreciate fine clothing, art, or dining. A John Deer is a cherished asset, and a manicured lawn is all that is recognized here. As a matter of fact there is nothing refined about Virginia and Virginians except nature. So good luck in finding a tailor or hairdresser here. I have recently lost a lot of weight and am in dire need of a tailor. I tried asking a neighbor if she knew of anyone that can sew, but no go! I can sew a hem, so for now safety pins have become very useful. Please, do not judge a person by their lawn. Some simply cannot afford the equipment or have the ability to afford to pay for a decent landscaper. Really, depends where you place your priorities. I choose to look well kept rather that the ground I walk upon.
I would love a video about what can be done with tailoring. I feel like I wouldn't know what to consider. Pants length, skirt length... But what else? Would be lovely to see a visual too. Pants off the rack. Pants shortened for heels. Pants shortened for flats. Pants shortened to show ankles. Etc.
A great suggestion! I use tailoring when I find an item that Ilove but i seem to be between sizes. So for example, I once bought a dress from H&M, a gray wool sheath, fully lined, super on sale. For the dress to fit me around the tummy, I needed a size that was too big a the bust and shoulders. So I bought the big size and had a tailor take it in at the shoulders - it just needed a pinch. It made all the difference, that dress looked like it was designer. I wore it for years until the fabric just wasn’t holding up anymore and it lost its shape.
I have a delicate pearl and opal pendant that my great grandmother wore on her wedding day in 1890 or so, and I have her wedding portrait showing her wearing it. It's one of the few "heirlooms" that I have, so it's extra special to me
You are only one of two of my favorite TH-camrs focusing on style/clothing that I feel truly aims to educate. I often rewatch your videos as they are a wonderful resource, a video library of sorts that I can visit over and over again.
I always like to buy a perfume, soap, lotion, something along those lines, so each time I use them and get a little whiff of the scent, it transports me back to that adventure and brings happy memories. It’s amazing how smell is so tied to memories, as well! Fabulous video, Audrey. Thank you!
The last point is amazing, Audrey. I'm in a deep deep love with long, elegant, princess-y, kinda retro dresses. The problems are: - Most of them have long sleeves and i live in a hot-all-year-round country -> impractical. - I work in a ad agency and production house, most of the time i work 8-5 in the office where people either wear casual or formal office style -> long elegant dresses are kinda over; other times i'm on set for filming TVC or running around in some kinds of factory, workshop, etc for filming corp videos -> even dresses are impractial - I'm a fresher in this industry, my income isn't high, while dresses that fit my fancy self are so not in my budget - I'm 1m58 and 54kg, quite short and chubby, i'll be drowning in long dresses with many patterns or details. I slowly learned to buy vintage or consignment, though it took a long time to find 1 dress that fit me, my style, my work place and my true self. I choose shorter dresses, a bit longer my knee so i look taller and can move easier while working. Instead of long sleeves, i choose mid and short sleeves, or maybe long sleeves but thinner materials, like chiffon. Instead of dresses with many beautiful details, i choose ones with fewer but more elegant details on the neck lines to show my collarbone, etc. So far, for almost a years, i only find 4 dresses that fit all i need. 2 of them are over my budget, let me be honest, but i wear them to death. They are easy to wash since they don't have many details and weren't make of fancy materials. I can wear them to parties, to weddings, to work, to weekend hangouts, to travels. The most important thing is they can pamper my fancy self without crashing my true self
Audrey, I'm loving your style evolution! Those colors and prints are sooooo beautiful on you, and your make up and hair looks fantastic. Your jewerly is so unique and timeless. When I see you, i see a beautiful lady that celebrates who she is, and is proud of her roots. You are so femenine, classy and elegant and is always a joy to watch your videos! Blessings.
Tailoring is amazing! I bought a teal (favorite color) suede skirt for $1 secondhand, bought matching corduroy, and had a tailor add corduroy stripes on both sides because the skirt was too small. Also, if you have a sweater that gets holes, a reweaver can fix that in a way that looks seamless! It's cheaper to hire a reweaver than it is to buy a new sweater, especially if cashmere or alpaca.
I used to always search for the cheapest option, and more was more. But now I´m more about finding these pieces I will love till their fall apart. And I agree about accessories , for me they are a must .Normally, I wear simpler clothing but I love wearing a bold lip or earrings, a necklace . It is so much fun, and I never get bored .
@@zusamy20 yeah! I love my jewelry and I love wearing them everyday. And I also only buy something I really love and have wanted for a while. Usually simple pieces. Dressing is easy and fun now!
You are absolutely right. STYLE is the touches that we add or tweak to our daily outfits that make it our own. Style is not just 'winter' or 'summer' or a color palette, but the particular twist that shows who we are. I would love to see you delve into this a little more as so many of us just mimic photos, and forget that everyone else is doing that also. We need to define our style and inject it daily into our clothing choices so that we are uniquely ourselves. I would love to see a series of photos that show the same cloting choices on a lot of women, but then pick out what it is that they have added that make it represent their 'style'. Thanks.... a great topic and a true definition of 'style'.
You are so right. My friends laugh at me because I am always buying lovely clothes that fit my fantasy life. In actuality, I live in loungewear around the house, jeans and exercise clothes. But I'll throw on a scarf or jewelry when I go out or a lovely top or blazer over my casual clothes. Still trying to find out how to make my life more glamorise in this little cowtown.
This is so wonderful. I like what you said about “finishing touches” And I would really like a video about turning impractical to practical. I have a lot of nice dresses & clothes that I would like to wear everyday more.
I went to Ireland a couple of years ago and bought a beautiful grey sweater and I love it and every time I wear it I think of our fun trip and also bought some tea and thinking again of Ireland while drinking it ❤️ Great Tip! The red coat is just beautiful! Thanks!
Great tips Audrey, especially the reminder that clothes are made to fit a sample size and we made need to tailor the item to fit us. It would be helpful if you could give examples of what you have done, and what can be altered realistically.
Other than (or in addition to) hemming pants and sleeves, I would love to see a video about tailoring. For example, what changes make what difference (cause/effect) and what to ask for (tailor vocabulary). I've had a few things tailored by different tailors and wasn't happy with any results because everything ended up too short, too small, or clearly looked altered in a negative way.
"Souvenirs you can wear" - such a great idea that I never thought of! Makes me excited to travel once things are back to normal 😊 p.s. your voice is so calm and soothing! 🤍
Great tips as always, with your sweet voice is even better. My idea of keeping memories alive is from jewelry that my mom gave me before she passed, I repurpose some beautiful brooches in to pendants to use with chains to elevate my looks. There’s so unique, and put a smile on me knowing that use to be hers.
I totally agree about using accessories to chart meaningful places or people in your life. I really like the idea of mixing up practical things with something else too. Thoughtful video, as always.
you have a point here, I'm a scientist spending a lot of time in the lab. And while I want to have personal style we have a strict dress code at work. It's not like business code but your legs and feet must be fully covered. So no sandals, skirts or shorts in the summer for me. Most people just wear sneakers and jeans but I don't like those so finding something that works for me and my workplace was a journey.
Some great ideas. I have a necklace that was a baptism gift and i wore it on my wedding day - it always feels special. Love the idea of buying clothes as a vacation memory :)
Another special touch I like is getting things like shirts or shawls monogrammed with your initials. It can be very discreet on a spot that is not visible immediately (like shirt cuffs), but gives you a lot of confidence and an air of "made to measure".
Audrey, this old posting showed up on my TH-cam. Awesome recommendations about going to the tailor and buying some memories of travel thru clothing! Perfecto! Thank you. Pete
It’s so relaxing to listen to your videos. You have such a serene manner. I love to wear jewelry every day, mostly things that have been given to me by my grandmother mother and aunt.
The practical & pretty video would be great. I love your advice on wearing souvenirs too. I have three pieces of inexpensive jewelry that I bought on holidays in NZ, Cornwall and Austria and every time I wear them, they remind me of the place and time I bought them.
Great video and I love the last suggestion you made around finding the sweet spot between fantasy and practicality. I would love if you expanded on this idea. I often opt for practical because I want my clothes to be versatile, comfortable and wearable for a long time - but I am missing the whimsy and need more tips on how to incorporate it :)
Thank you for these practical tips. Really helpful. Having a sense of your own "fashion persona" might be useful, because fashion, whether in your own fantasy or in your own daily life, is never exactly the "authentic you." Thank you for sharing your thoughts and feelings about this topic. Peace & Blessings.
I love that you are always so encouraging and upbeat! Please do a video on making impractical outfits more practical. Fantastic idea! I wish I had thought of it!
Yessss Audrey, that is a phenomenal concept for new content. 👍 Please DEFINITELY do a video transforming a pretty but impractical look into something you can actually wear and enjoy! Perhaps you can start with one transformation, then take suggestions from your Followers for additional before/after tweaks as I'm sure there will be many requests and suggestions offered. I'm looking fwd to seeing how you do this... xx
I have recently discovered a tailor, she fixed some moth damage on a 1960's wool swing coat for me. I immediately set aside a couple of things that need mending, and will also ask her to fit two cute American Rag tops for me. They've always been a bit big, so I stopped wearing them but I love the fabrics and want to wear them again! A video on making an outfit practical and pretty is something I could use! I am looking more toward staying in relaxed bottoms - leggings, yoga pants, nice joggers even - and could use help with the rest of the outfit! Thanks, Audrey ❤
Oh my word Audrey you are so right about the tailoring! For the first time ever (because you often mention it) I had two pairs of jeans tailored to fit properly. I have wide hips but a smaller waist and my jeans are almost always too long. I am so happy, I can't believe how great the jeans look compared to how they were before the tailoring. Thank you for your advice. :)
Tailoring is priceless! 💗 This is one of the reasons why I’m so glad and grateful that I know how to sew! I also just really love sewing. 💗 I have a really hard time with pants, even when I was a much skinnier teen- I have always had to alter my pants. I have a *really* big butt, hips for days, and thick thighs, all paired with a small waist/short torso. I do really like that combination on my body, but finding pants that can properly accommodate my lower half and my waist... mission impossible. lol One of the reasons I love shopping second hand- I can get a decent pair of jeans or trousers for $10, and then use my sewing skills to alter them. I’m always experimenting with new techniques to get the best fit, and if I’m working on a pair of second hand pants that I paid very little for, it’s not quite as frustrating I make a mistake.
When I travel I do the same think. Always buy a scarf. Also picked up some costume jewelry in a thirft store in Paris France. Love the pearl necklace. When I wear it brings back memories. ❤️
I like fashion and dressing well. I live in a small town where the fashion is very casual, however the town is growing rapidly and I feel this look is seeing an upgrade... I like that the trend in fashion now is mixing casual and dressy items so that is what I am trying to do and not look too dressed up!!! I am also buying most of my clothes second hand so the pieces as Audrey says are more unique.
I recently found ur channel and I'm so excited to learn from you. I feel like I'm at an age where I want less items and longevity so it's time for me. Thank you so much for the endless advice for dressing well on this channel. ❤️💜💙
So agree about tailoring, however, where I live, a simple hem is $25-$40, and anything more complex can run so much more. I had the shoulders lifted on a jacket - $135!!! If you are lucky enough to have a good tailor, whose work you know and trust, that is worth it's weight in gold.
Hello Audrey! My name is Sara and I have been following your channel for quite sometime. Love your elegant and graceful style.️ Thank you for your content and reinforcing that style is unique to each one.❤️
Thanks Audrey for the precious advice. You look gorgeous in all those styles. They complement you perfectly with that fresh and classy vibe. Congratulations on your beautiful style journey!
I love your videos and advice, Audrey! You've got a fresh approach to style, fashion and how we can apply it practically to our lives. Thanks for sharing with us.
Love your videos Audrey! I've learned so much, and continue to learn, from you and it's had a great impact on finally learning what my personal style is. I'm so much more intentional about my purchases now. I love the idea of accessories as souvenirs instead of knick knacks that just create clutter.
The video idea is exactly what I need! I’m a stay at home mom but my social calendar stays full. I would love to find way to mix those two wardrobes to give my favorite pieces more wear!
Best ever NYC souvenir I got was a midi skirt at Bonwit Teller---I was ahead of the fashion wave when I wore it on the first day of school. By the end of the school year, midi skirts had replaced the minis!!!!
Thanks Audrey. Love those boots- cream, nude zip up lace ups.. They are so vintage. Something Eliza Bennett or Emma might have worn. Talk of beauty and fantasy😍😍❣️
Love your Irish hat and scarf. Recognise the cliffs from my visit. My clothing purchase on that occasion 2 decades ago was not so classy. Guiness socks!
Hi from Indonesia, Audrey! been subscribed for 2 years now & you help me finding my personal style throughout the years. I buy less but getting more stylish than ever. thank you ❤️
Hello from Ireland :D I agree with the souvenirs! When I was in Rome I bought myself a necklace and now I remember my first time in Italy whenever I wear it :)

I went to Ireland a couple of years ago and bought a beautiful grey sweater and I love it and every time I wear it I think of our fun trip and also bought some tea and thinking again of Ireland while drinking it ❤️ Great Tip! The red coat is just beautiful! Thanks!
What a great philosophy! I take a similar approach to decorating my home - I think a lot of your ideas cross over into interior style as well.
I absolutely love your new (to you!) burgundy coat! Would you mind sharing the brand? Thanks!!!
Great tips Audrey, especially the reminder that clothes are made to fit a sample size and we made need to tailor the item to fit us. It would be helpful if you could give examples of what you have done, and what can be altered realistically.
It's always a pleasure to find you in my feed, Audrey! Yes, I'm also very interested by this idea for a new video series: from runway to real life.
Love it! And that red coat, blue sweater is perfect!!,,
Other than (or in addition to) hemming pants and sleeves, I would love to see a video about tailoring. For example, what changes make what difference (cause/effect) and what to ask for (tailor vocabulary). I've had a few things tailored by different tailors and wasn't happy with any results because everything ended up too short, too small, or clearly looked altered in a negative way.
Yes! Impractical to practical is a great idea.
I love it you are wearing more colours, and flower patterns. Suits you.
The outfit and the hair at 3:10 are just fabulous, they work together wonderfully!
Lots of great thinking points here! Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Love the idea of making a beautiful, but impractical outfit, practical!
Thank you so much, Audrey! I loved your advice on how to personalize your jewelry, in particular.
I love watching your videos so much Audrey! Thank you for inspiring me everyday and helping me build a better wardrobe ❤️
This is one of the reasons why I’m so glad and grateful that I know how to sew! I also just really love sewing. 💗
I have a really hard time with pants, even when I was a much skinnier teen- I have always had to alter my pants.
I have a *really* big butt, hips for days, and thick thighs, all paired with a small waist/short torso. I do really like that combination on my body, but finding pants that can properly accommodate my lower half and my waist... mission impossible. lol
One of the reasons I love shopping second hand- I can get a decent pair of jeans or trousers for $10, and then use my sewing skills to alter them.
Thank you for your great tips but most of all for conveying it in such graceful , elegant and well poised manner ! ❤️😍
I love that top on you ❤️
I love the idea of making something impractical, practical, but eye catching. 😊
I like the outfit modification idea. Thanks!❤️
Hello Audrey! My name is Sara and I have been following your channel for quite sometime. Love your elegant and graceful style.️ Thank you for your content and reinforcing that style is unique to each one.❤️
You're such a classy lady. God bless you Audrey. Love you from Egypt.
More, please, from this quiet American.
I love the idea of a practical and pretty video!
Your video idea to take an impractical outfit to practical but still pretty is a great one.
Love the last point - this is what I try to do and would love another video exploring it more 💗
Audrey, you look great in florals. The puffy sleeves and side combed hair alongwith gold hoops look really flattering.
1. Personalized jewelry
2. Vintage/second hand
3. Souvenirs (clothing, accessories)
4. Tailor
5. Dress for your true life with a touch of fantasy
Love your videos Audrey! I've learned so much, and continue to learn, from you and it's had a great impact on finally learning what my personal style is. I'm so much more intentional about my purchases now. I love the idea of accessories as souvenirs instead of knick knacks that just create clutter.
I think that ( practical with a bit of fantasy) video would be great! 🤗
Yes to impractical to practical....your tips, suggestions have been soooo helpful for me navigating a personal style🤗
I would love to see the type of video you mentioned, I think that’s something I struggle with in outfits.
You're videos always make me so refreshed!
Hi from Indonesia, Audrey! been subscribed for 2 years now & you help me finding my personal style throughout the years. I buy less but getting more stylish than ever. thank you ❤️
Thanks Audrey 😊 I'm 64 & have learned so much from you!
practical and pretty outfit ideas, Yes Would love love love that video.
Yes, please! I need that video that turns the impractical into a practical outfit I would actually wear.
Hello from Ireland :D
I agree with the souvenirs! When I was in Rome I bought myself a necklace and now I remember my first time in Italy whenever I wear it :)
Great advice, you are so helpful for me developing my best looks, thanks!
Oh! Look at those wavy curls! Love it!
I love the new idea for some videos (take pretty and style it to be more practical).
I would love a video on the practicality of fashion! I just recently made a video that touched on fashion vs functionality and merging the two, and would love to hear your take on it 😊
Love the practical outfit idea FOR SURE!!!
Thanks for yet another delightful and helpful style video. 😁❤️ I enjoy personalizing my style in an ongoing way.
Intrigued by the idea of “Dress For Your True Life, With A Touch of Fantasy”. Would love to see a video where you expand on that!
YES, please!
You have pure star quality. Your genuine authentic gentle loveliness beams through! You should have a TV fashion show!
Thank you so much! This is such a kind comment and you’ve made my whole week ❤️❤️❤️
Yes please! Good idea to make a video of converting impractical outfits into practical

I love this video so much! I am 5’1 and my mom is my tailor.
Yes to a video on making a pretty "inspiration" outfit more practical! That would be ENORMOUSLY helpful and much appreciated :)
