Is a TSO a federal job? & even thoe they only go back 10yrs, a Federal background check is since birth...so what if you have a felony thats 18-19yrs old?..will that hender? only because of the federal check that is probably extensive?
Yes it's a federalized position. There are some myths that I will clear up. Not sure where the misinformation came from but it happens a lot. Federal security clearances don't go back to birth. Only to your 18th birthday, since you're no longer a minor at that point. Criminal records are treated very differently. There is no such thing as a criminal record being "too old" or being expunged. When you apply for a security clearance, EVERYTHING is fair game. You're being vetted to determine if you're a national security risk to the government and safety of the United States. The time scope of the investigation depends on the type of clearance you're applying for. If you have a criminal record, depending on what you did and what the courts ruled, that could bar you from federal employment. For instance I'm looking at Orlando , FL and it says on site $35k-50k ? Does it mean you get hired into that range? I'm currently in retail Management making 45k. I'd hate to take that much for a paycut a year. Thanks for the advice!
There is a base pay but you also get locality pay. So your pay is Los Angeles will be higher than your pay in Dallas.However, the cost of living in Los Angeles is a lot higher than Dallas, so the locality pay helps offset some of the disproportion. The pay range for Orlando is $35k-50k because your paid on a pay scale. So you can start out at $35k but if you don’t promote and you stay at the same rank, the highest you can make at that rank is $50k. @@theTSAguy thanks for quick reply. Well I've been in retail for 10yrs now and a manager for 6. The company I work for (Walmart) has endless opportunities to move up which is great. However, I'm simply not proud of what I do and I have no desire to move up anymore then I have. The thought of doing this another 15yrs is depressing lol. I just feel like I need a complete change. Something I can feel proud of what I do. I've also recently applied for a Postal work position.
@@theTSAguy I'm just not happy with what I'm doing it's that simple. I could always switch stores or departments, but in the end it's Walmart and gonna deal with same bs I already do now lol
Ok I understand your position. However, For someone with your skill level and talent I don’t recommend the TSO position. Have you looked into Analyst, or Program Manager positions? Even anything on the business side of the government like Contract or Finance Specialist would be more your speed.

No license, TSA offers the federal TSP, which is WAY better than any 401k
