  • This is a video on how to go about installing torque boxes in a fox body. Although not a fun job the amount of strength gained and suspension adjustments you'll now have make it more then worth it. I HIGHLY recommend Merillat Racing for your torque box needs!

    Merillat not only make great products, but they are really fine jewelery. Never seen better welds in my life. Made in the USA in my home state of Ohio I believe.

    Watched the whole video. It was very nice to see a couple of young fellas that were not hacks. They did a hell of a good job and did not cut corners. Thanks for sharing with us Mustang folk. Cheers from Motown!

    I pulled a tape measure from the rear of the lower boxes to the centerline of the front lower A frames holes to insure they were lined up the same on both sides. I do know aftermarket upper and lower control arms are adjustable but I like to be sure everything is square rather than reference points.

    Cutting the lower torque boxes out to me were not as hard as cutting out the upper. I cut the crap out of the stuff with a 4-1/2” cutoff wheel to get to the hard to get areas. Not bad. Also, you guys should consider buying you a nice mig if you’re going to do more fab work. I have a miller mig and tig. I welded in the upper in less than ten minutes. I have a lift and even with it this is hard,strenuous work especially on the back.

    Really been enjoying the channel. Could you go over suspension setup as far as what holes to start with on the Merillat boxes and show what your method of squaring up the rearend in the car is?

    Great video, you mentioned to measure to make sure both are installed evenly, but you never showed where to measure, on the upper torque box in super high speed I seen a quick flash of you measuring but couldn't tell what or where you were measuring? Can you describe where to measure and what kind of measurements we should be getting?

    Are these just for drag racing or can I use them in a street car lowered with wide tires all 4 corners. Reason I'm asking is my top passenger box is ripped away from the unibody of the car. I was going to reinstall and reinforce them but the more I think about the level of damage I might as well replace with aftermarket boxs. And adjustable control arms.

    • @spassmore8483

      I found this video because i was lookin for tips to get mine chopped out and replaced, but i been 1.05 60’ 4.58@153 at 3200lbs in ultra street trim in my car. I replaced the bent bolts a few times but torque boxes look ok. Im just looking to lower the car a few inches to get crank center line down to stop the wheelies and no way to get the instant center right with the stock holes

    • @nigelstst
      @nigelstst  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Backspace and offset are almost the same thing. When we ordered them offset was never a factor. I think one directly effects the other so we just worry about backspace when we order drag wheels.

    Where did you use for your reference measurements. Factory holes in the subframe or did you just measure and make marks wherever.

    • @nigelstst
      @nigelstst  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      These boxes are made to match up with certain parts of the frame we just clamped them in place and took measurements from a point on the car to ensure they were even.
