    Yep, got new torque boxes. Today I talk about how to go about installing the Merillat Racing lower torque boxes. Now Gumby's complete rear suspension is completely Merillat Racing components. If you want any of the Merillat Racing parts of your own, look em up on Facebook.

    Doing my JCR uppers and lowers today. I’ve been working on it for 2 weeks now and today is finally the day I weld it up. Thanks for the vids, they have been extremely helpful!

    I've been slowly beefing up my subframe with my own brackets and I can weldments mainly because I know the cars been wrecked and you can physically sse that the bulkhead to rear floor and subframe all the way to the upper and lower torque boxes are trying to separate and it's all over. I did install the bmr tubular uppers and made my own upper and lower thru the floor reinforcements. I've also added an angle plate that goes inside the lower control arm channel. Because it looks like the floor isnt mounted on the subframe like it should. So ice also drilled thru the lower end of the upper box and just ran half inch bolts and washers to sandwich the boxes back to the body. It's been a real learning process not done yet it's my daily driver. But making your own components to ne is satisfying. Team myself. Probably making 5 link and torque arm soon hopefully.

      Thats awesome Andy and I agree, nothing more satisfying than seeing a build or project come together with your own two hands.

    I know this is an old vid, and not sure if you even upload anymore but the big question is... did Team z ever rectify the situation with you??

      Troy. I suppose I can. Really all that is left is to just weld them in. Which will be right after I seam seal and paint that portion of the floor. Is there something specific you're looking for with them welded in?

      Ron, thank you brother. Haha yes he does. I don't keep up with Marty's pricing and would hate to give out an inaccurate price. It's best for everyone if you get it from him direct. You can find him on FB at Merillat Racing or try DM'ing his IG @merillatracing.

    Has Team Z changed their design? The one I saw on their site for the 1979 fox body looks a lot like the Merelet design now.

      Yeah, it seems they did update their design to one that is similar to Merillat Racing. I have only seen them on their YT vids so can’t really compare to Merillat.

      They offer a tab/slot DIY boxes, you fit them and weld them.

    When you welded the lower against the rocker which is 3 pieces of sheet metal stamped together, how did you determine what settings to use on your welder?

    • @HPFarm
      @HPFarm  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I TIG welded mine in. So, since my CK9 torch is a max amps of 125, and I use a 3/32" Tungsten I keep the machine set at 120ish amps and just use the foot pedal to deliver what is actually needed for a good puddle and penetration. If I were to use a MIG setup, I'd use some scrap to sort it out prior to welding on the car. I'd start with settings in the middle between the two thicknesses that are to be welded and keep most of the heat on the thicker piece. Hope that helps some.

      Thanks brother! My TIG skills are garbage and some day when I have more free time and I’m not a slave to the race car I need to get back into it again. I’ve been trying a bunch of different settings with my MIG but I’m lacking consistency which is why I pulled the plug on actually welding the lowers in today but I’ll get back at it tomorrow morning and maybe I’ll find that consistency I’m looking for. Thanks again for answering and for your videos!!
