Lots of options. I’ve a 2012 2.0 Avant that I purchased new. Since buying the car I’ve invested nearly 85k, ( including purchase price) Rings and pistons replaced at 55k due to oil consumption issues. Engine failed again at 67k, I bought a new long block from Audi in March of this year. This car had Stasis sway bars installed years ago, I’ve added a CTS K04, CTS intake, CTS intercooler, cat back exhaust, down pipe, IE aluminum manifold, IE catch can, Bilsteen coil overs. Needless to say, it gets up and goes. Not as good as my TTRS though.😂

@grant How do you have 85k into it? Are you including gas, oil changes, slurpees at 7/11? Base price was what, $46k new with prestige options? Where did $39k go? Were the rings and pistons not replaced under warranty at 55k?
Great video. I really love how honest you are about additional costs and potential alternative (S4). I got A5 with same 2.0 tfsi CDNC (211hp stock) currently running K04-64 hybrid with big IC, custom active exhaust, downpipe, intake mod, S3 injectors and autotech hpfp. I was thinking about going next stage, but 370hp with flat 500Nm works great as a daily so far. I'm both worried about costs and ability to drive a car as a daily. I guess for the moment I am good, doing times like RS5 in heavier 2.0 sportback.
Hey I was wondering if you could give me some more details about what the process was like, costs, how it is to drive. I have a 2.0 CDNC A4 and really wanted to go K04. I've already poured so much money into this motor (tensioner failure, rings, PCV, intake flaps, water pump, all the 2.0T things) that I thought fuck it may as well keep it and build. Do you also have the DSG, how is that coping with the power. My clutches are fried so im going upgraded clutches and a TCU tune soon that should be able to handle well over 900Nm. Cheers
@@Byefriendo total cost was: - new (rebuild) engine - 1500$ - turbo K04-64 hybrid - 500$ - large IC - 500$ - custom active exhaust - 1000$ - intake & piping - 200$ - injectors & hpfp - 500$ - ecu & tcu tune - 700$ I guess those were all power focused changes for total of about 5000$ including labour. I bought a cheap A5 with both broken engine, turbo and injectors. It was cheaper to get new rebuild engine with oil issue fixed and warranty than rebuilding the old one.
@@Byefriendo when it comes to gearbox, I am running DL501 DSG with stock internals, just stage 2 tune with increased oil pressure and ceramic add on to oil to prevent from heating. So far it is running fine, but I might change clutch to something stronger.

Most of that is just the wonderful sounds of the big turbo 😃. It just has the included cts intake and a gfb dv+. On the exhaust side it’s all kind of a hacked together custom exhaust. Catless dp, stock front muffler, center res replaced with a vibrant ultraquiet, and a rear muffler delete
your really inspiring me on my current journey right now with my B8 A5 2.0 6spd. Literally the only thing really scaring me is the rings and oil consupmtion.
The man is absolutely correct, it costs a lot of money to make more power on a car that doesn't have big power. It cost me over $25K to get my mk7 gti from 210hp to 400whp. That's not including a couple of clutches that I went through because of a bad installation and one that I didn't know about the breakin. It didn't help that my EX mechanic didn't tell me about the breakin hence EX and doesn't work on my car anymore. Should I've bought the Golf R instead? Maybe, but then I wouldn't have gain all the experience from going through everything. My car is such a joy to drive even though I get 300km from an $80 tank of gas. To everyone out there that's in the same boat as me, get yourself a membership to CAA (in Canada) or AAA. The best yearly membership you'll spend hands down. Try to do some of the work yourself European car mechanics are expensive. Remember jobs that takes a mechanic 5-6 hrs might take you 2 times longer maybe more. So weigh out the time that it might take you to do the job and see is it worth your time.
Dope! I still haven't understood if an in tank pump is needed for a BOSS600 or if a larger throttle body has any real gains or not. These cars are still a blast. I really like my A4. I mean the S4 is cool but there is nothing like a boosted AWD 4 cylinder.
Your best bet is to go with a factory in tank until you possibly reach its limit. We’re lucky in the fact that we have the same pump as the s4 (400lph-ish), so it’s plenty capable up to this power level, and likely even higher. A friend of mine is at about 600 crank with an aem 340lph. Also totally agree with you on the awd 4 cylinder remark 😁
As a fbo s4 owner this makes my heart happy I always loved the vw cc 2.0k04 I had and planned to make big turbo but it got wrecked. I always hated the traction issues I had with front wheel drive so I about bout an a4 but the b9 barely gets support and I got lucky and found mine ! Love turbo cars miss mine but love my s4
Great! I Enjoy the video production and effort you put into this. So refreshing actually watching a well produced video with valuable information instead of other TH-cam channels that run off their phones! This makes me love my B8 even more. Through all the pain it brings. It’s one day gonna be the little 4 cylinder that could !! Would love to see that build sheet and final price you spent !
First: I respect the honesty here. Lots of good information too. Second: I have been driving a b8.5 allroad (2.0) for many many years. It’s nearly stock and has been the most reliable car I’ve ever owned (currently over 140k miles) but…Id be nice to have more power. That being said, with cost in mind, wouldn’t a motor swap be a better option? Regardless, great video!
I think a full car swap would be the best option haha. An engine swap of course seems like it would be the better option on paper, but there’s a lot involved as far as coding, modules, immobilizers, and wiring - far beyond my personal comfort level
Understandable considering all modern ‘tech’. I’ve done swaps previously but just the old school Audi 5 cylinder route. It’s a different ballgame with the newer cars. Like you said, I’d probably find my comfort level exceeded but…if the engine ever goes in the allroad, well, I may be ‘foolish’ enough to try it. Then I could post a video on what a nightmare it is. Haha. Thanks for your input. Keep up the great work!
Great video and given me food for thought. I have a standard S5 B8.5 Coupe and am currently at the ‘homework’ stage. Plenty of folk who know my plans keep telling me to “just get an RS5, it’ll be cheaper!” but they don’t get it. I want my car, modded my way with my blood, sweat and tears (and overdraft! 😬). I have a 2021 Mustang Mach 1 (that I won in an online raffle 😊) which I’m about to sell and that’ll free up quite a bit of money to put into the S5 so it’s going to be a well sorted car 😎 (the Mustang has loads of ‘presence’ but the S5 is still much more fun, even in standard guise!). I appreciate that you’ve gone ‘A4 to better than a S4’, well I’m hoping to follow the same principal but ‘S5 to better than an RS5’ 🤞. Thanks for the motivation!!
"If you're not comfortable doing it yourself, go to a professional" should be said in EVERY DIY car video. Too many people destroy cars with jank installs
i dont really want to build the whole engine. I want something that I can do with stock internals at least. I don't want to blow my piston rings like I did in the GTI. Can you make a video about stock internals and power gains?
Enjoyed the video, makes me excited for my own car, I have a 1.8tfsi 1st Gen ea888 and I’m still trying to figure out if I can buy a turbo and manifold for the 2.0 ea888 and bolt straight in. I can’t find anywhere if the manifold is different between the 1.8 and 2.0. Especially when so many turbos online say 1.8 & 2.0, however when I read what engine codes it would fit it never shows mine - CABB.
Really enjoyed this video 📹. I went with the N/A V8 RS5 but I can see how your car would be much more fun. A 500HP 4 cylinder is a Beast. NICE JOB......🚀
@@OhDearBabajan if it’s a 2.0t allroad, the majority of it will apply. Turbo, fueling, engine components, tuning, it should all still be about the same. The allroad also has the aluminum intake manifold with the 5th injector if I remember correctly, so there may actually be more fueling possibilities available on it
@@FlinkFilms yeah i think a bit less has to be done if you want to get the allroad to about 400-425hp. Looking into having one made for me, but I can't decide whether to get the A4 allroad or like a 2018 rs3. Price is a factor, yes, but the rs3 i can just drive stock. The thing is I love wagons.
@@OhDearBabajan if price isn’t an issue and you value a really fast and fun driving experience, I’d probably recommend an rs3. A lot less work and much more reliable. But if a wagon is non-negotiable for you, a modded allroad would be a great all around vehicle

Love this I have the b9 s5 and i can see a very good reason for doing this and that is to have a manual car as s4/s5 are autos but then if you start with an s4/5 and do similar stuff your way up there in supercar territory great build though its amazing how attached we get to our cars.

Question! I am new to the Audi scene, I just bought an 09 Audi A4 Avant Wagon. I want to make it faster... I am not totally sure how to get the speed limiter removed. I got the car from C&B last month and it has a couple of mods on it. Only thing is it had a stage 2 tune on it (I think from APR) and I had to get it tuned back to a Stage 1+ GIAC tune to get it to pass inspection in NY. When that was done, the guy who did it for me ended up putting the limiter back on the car. How can I go about fixing this? I eventually want to do Stage 3 tune and add the K04 turbo unless I go with one of the ones you recommended here. Thank you!!!
Audi A4 B8 6 speed auto running stage 2 from ie with cts catted downpipe, k&n intake, ie intercooler, custom exhaust. This winter looking to run IE Manifold, cts k04, and water meth injection. 150k miles on the engine now but well maintained. Went with k04 knowing its a 6 speed auto. Do you think this will be a reliable setup?
Hard to give a straight answer because these engines can always surprise you. In general, the more you upgrade a vehicle, the less reliable it can be. But plenty of people run setups like that without issue. You’ve probably taken care of most of this, but keeping your intake valves clean of carbon buildup and swapping out your chain tensioner for the updated one (if it’s a pre-2013 car) is a good way to ensure reliability. And of course if it is a pre-2013 car, there’s the whole oil consumption issue with the factory pistons, if that hasn’t been addressed yet.
@@FlinkFilms Just did did the timing chain and carbon buildup cleaning 2 months ago, also will most likely add the ie catch can this winter to be safe! Oil consumption ill just suck it up haha. Thanks for getting back to me!
Love your build brother… Would you consider closed filter like ECS Kohlefaser Luft-Technik intake? Just wondering if with open cone CAI, do you suffer from heat soak? Also, can BOSS500 handle 550-560 crank hp?
Yeah a closed/shielded intake would probably make for better iat’s. I just don’t want to give up the amplified whooshy noises 😁. I think the 500 can get that high, but I’d guess that’s probably just about maxing it out
I do believe it could get that high but it also depends on your other mods on the car as well & the type of fueling to get that and more. I know for a fact when he add the methanol injection he will me getting more hp😊😊😊
Hii . What if i just upgrade a Ko4 turbo upgrade and just do a stage 2 . Will the stock internals hold the power . Approximately how many horse can the car make ?
for the a4/a5 would it be a bad idea to get one with the automatic transmission? i live in a city and i love manual cars but it’s just a pain in the ass to drive them with the traffic i deal with
Chris this build has me almost at the next step on my audi build myself! Coming from a built m340 I bought a Audi a4 as a daily I don’t want anything crazy just something that would impress me for daily Would hybrid turbo require anything but a tune? Or would I need larger intercooler and better fueling Not looking to make big power at all
With a hybrid turbo you’d be fine with stock fueling and a tune. You’d want a downpipe with it, and an intercooler would be a good idea. Aside from that you’d be good to go
Im trying to get to that level and more. Im at stage 2 right now, eventually im going to do a full engine rebiuld and a custom tune. Did you have to upgrade or tune your transmission?
Upgrade you dv to the latest audi revision and youll be fine. 3 years at 15 psi on my factory dv. Dont plan to upgrade as there has been no reason, works perfect.
We’re you on E when you made the 427whp? I’m looking at potentially buying a built motor B8 A4 but I’m afraid It will be under whelming coming from a S4 Stage 2+ 93 made probably between 400-420whp on 93
QQ - What is the safest turbo upgrade for a 170BHP TDi A4 without any need for Engine mods? I want to do a stage 2 which includes a ECU tune, a down-pipe change and a cat delete which is cheap compared to engine mods.
Does all the power come from a turbo with getting higher boost and then all the other mods are just to handle the boost and you raise the psi as you get more mods?
okay so I have an A4 sline and i want to go to stage 2 tuning would I only need a new downpipe or would I need other asseociries to counteract for the additional power ?

One year ago today i bought my stock b8.5 and now it is running a Boss600 kit. Thank you for inspiring us all to build our cars and I have loved and followed your content for a while.
wondering how much that would be in upgrades?
You made the start of my day even better. New episode to watch thanks flink
Love the content! You hit the nail on the head, my 11’ 6MT has a special place in my heart and I can’t part ways with it. Although I have my eyes on a special edition b8.5 s4, the a4 ain’t going anywhere. You’ve inspired myself and many others and I thank you for that as well as all the great information you supply! Hoping I can get my build going and run into you at gridlife or another Midwest meet in the near future!
For most that aren't mechanics it makes more sense to pony up the dough and get an S4 with a tune and pulley..
Sweet!!! I got the cts boss 500, cts intake Manifold, cts 600 fmic, Intake system, underdrive pully,, IE rods, mk7 injectors, forge pistons, 034 fuel pump piston, ect 😁 just looking for a good builder oh yes Q5 brake upgrade on the front & S4 on the back wit ecs wave 2 piece disks, coil overs & front and rear sway bars
@@LLoydDStiff do you have a 2.0 or an S4?
@@grantbradley5084 I have a S Line A4 it's a 2.0
@grant How do you have 85k into it? Are you including gas, oil changes, slurpees at 7/11? Base price was what, $46k new with prestige options? Where did $39k go? Were the rings and pistons not replaced under warranty at 55k?
I was actually thinking of doing my Audi but after watching two minutes of this video you convinced me to get rid of it 😆 thank you 😁
Great video.
Cheers
@@Byefriendo total cost was:
- new (rebuild) engine - 1500$
- turbo K04-64 hybrid - 500$
- large IC - 500$
- custom active exhaust - 1000$
- intake & piping - 200$
- injectors & hpfp - 500$
- ecu & tcu tune - 700$
I guess those were all power focused changes for total of about 5000$ including labour.

@@Byefriendo polish turbo manufacturer called Karambol. This turbo is sick. Doing up to 1.7-1.8b and up to 420hp. I am running safe 1.5b with flat torque from 2400rpm (over 400Nm after 2000rpm, flat 500Nm between 2500 and 5200, than it falls back to 400Nm by the end).
At around 3:04, you can hear the sound of your car...so good!
What parts are you running? CAI? Diverter valve? TMD?
Most of that is just the wonderful sounds of the big turbo 😃. It just has the included cts intake and a gfb dv+. On the exhaust side it’s all kind of a hacked together custom exhaust. Catless dp, stock front muffler, center res replaced with a vibrant ultraquiet, and a rear muffler delete
your really inspiring me on my current journey right now with my B8 A5 2.0 6spd. Literally the only thing really scaring me is the rings and oil consupmtion.
My a5 loves eating oil 😂
been looking for this exact video for ever. i got no idea what im doing so this helps a ton
Im currently building a sleeper b9 a4, currently at around 320 hp (got intercooler and stage 2 tune incoming)
So weigh out the time that it might take you to do the job and see is it worth your time.
we need more youtubers like you

Getting a b8.5 s4
I just got stuck with one of these. Didn’t choose it over the s4 lol
Love the dedication to the platform but couldn't you swap a 3.0tfsi engine into that for cheaper than the whole build?
Probably. I also probably could have sold the car and bought an s4 for even more money savings. But I just like the turbo 4 platform
@@FlinkFilms i respect that 100% man keep the build goin
How much horse power can I get with a 401k tune?
I was gonna get a subaru brz but i like the audi a4 and s4 dont care which one because their engines can handle nice turbo kits
honestly the best bang for the buck is to get a 3.0 TDI, I have mine with stage 1 tune for 310hp
Do we even get the 3.0 tdi A4 in the states?
@@FlinkFilms i think it was only in the larger suv
Boss600 has entered the chat.
If you haven’t yet, maybe you could try contacting the turbo/manifold manufacturer to confirm? Hopefully they could give you a straight answer
@@FlinkFilms good suggestion, I’ll give it a pop.

Question: have '17 A4 all road With 2.0 turbo looking for aftermarket fog light bezel and diode dry or Baja lights. Suggestions?

Does the same all that you mentioned apply for the a4 avant?
Yep, all of that applies to the avant!
@@FlinkFilms but not the a4 all road right? different engine, flexfuel, etc (pre-2018)
