I’ve won games with R.O.B. by just standing center stage and short hop N-Airing. But I think that’s because everyone on Ultimate online has the average IQ of a turnip.
A few important notes: - Fsmash is really good at 2-framing due to the extremely low on-release timer if charging it - You can dtilt into jab-1 and repeat for a lot of damage. It's really hard to to properly and it isn't true either. It's been dubbed the "Robble Wobble" - His Arm Rotor only reflects in the first few frames of the move, not throughout its entirety - His dair spike hitbox is active for *_7 frames_* which makes it unreasonably easy to 2-frame with - You can use bair and dair to stall in the air. Really effective if Joker has Arsene for example - His grabs are amongst the fastest in the game, but he has the worst range of all grabs - If you use up throw below a platform at around 120%, you can kill most midweights and below very effectively
I've been maining ROB since Smash Wii U came out, and this video jtought me some things I never knew before. I expected it to be one of those "guides" that just tells you what each move does, but you delivered past my expectations. Nice video!
A little known fact about Rob's recovery, if you want to go farther sideways, you can alternate between back air and up b. I heard of this from twitter.
I've never played any smash game before, this is my first one, I was playing around with all the characters to see who I liked most and rob is just so fun to play for me and i feel like i could get really good with him
Thank you Choctopus for making this video on how to play R.O.B! I've been a R.O.B main since Brawl and I've tried finding tutorials on how to get better as a player!
pretty good video but when you got to the throws part you really omitted so much. Kinda felt like you were crunched for time. Back and Forward throw are both great for getting opponents off stage, which is very good since ROB is in an incredible advantage when his opponents off stage with options to cover ledge with gyro, lasering opponents, and deep edge guards with a fantastic up b. Back Throw will also kill characters at around 130 or so when at ledge. Up Throw combos into F-air at low percent if the opponent DIs away. If they DI in then Up Air works and for significantly longer too. Up throw is also a kill throw, killing at around 140 or so, and possibly earlier if used below a platform, as ROB jumps up and lands on the platform when you use the move.
I got my switch a while ago. However I remember before I got my switch (for like a year or so) I would play smash at my friends houses and just destroy with ROB. Call it skill (which it isn't) or call it luck, ROB and I stomped on my friends who at the time had 500 or so hours. After lots of rage and confusion they finally learned how to defend ROB. However now that I have my switch, that beautiful little robot and I have had quite the fun desolating the competition lol. ROB is (imo) the greatest all-around character. Sure he isn't a complete meta (not all the time at least), but he has so many incredible combos and is such a huge off-stage threat and I just love him. I mean, come on guys, he's so beautiful.

As a rob main just wanna say half of these combos don't even work against an actual player. Also, burner boosting requires a jump input at the same time as your up-b, making it extremely difficult to excecute in an actual set. Side b may be one of his best moves for killing, but it's extremely laggy so its a high risk high reward kind of move. Finally, for recovering, you can up-b for half a second and then backair and up b for half a second or so again, which gives rob a phenomenal horizontal recovery boost and better mixup potential.
I saw some Rob in spectator mode named something Japanese Rob 4.0 and this Rob was GOOD like really good. He had a hundred percent win rate and like alot of gsp. I just wanted to know if anybody has ever seen this Rob.
