As a Mewtwo main, I find it kinda sad that he is largely ignored by everyone in this game. Everyone jams him in lower tiers and focuses on his replacements... *Looking at you Lucario.*
I'm mean he's not bad (I main him), but he's definitely not great, he has too many weaknesses and too big of a hitbox to actually compete against characters like joker or pikachu wich are pretty much the biggest threat on the whole game, if your character struggles agaisnt those two you can bet it'll be put at low tier. I'm also not taking into account any other horrible bad matchups mewtwo has, but you get the idea.
Im a mewto main, my biggest thing with him is using the teleportation while in battle. Its saved me so many times and frustrates opponents. I teleport behind the opponent and boom sock them
9:12 Great guide! I think you pretty much covered everything, but I think one thing was missing. The Side-B confusion also works as some kind of a mini jump when used in the air which should help recovering even more. If you used it here at 9:12 your Up-B would've grabbed the ledge much easier :)
Note for any future Mewtwo Mains, his Side B (Confusion), is a kill confirm into a forward air at certain higher percents and kills earlier when used in the air
I looked at this video to brush up on my Mewtwo knowledge and thank goodness I did cuz I learned some new tricks. I never thought about nair into up smash, for example. Pleasantly surprised by how much I got out of this video and I hope you keep it up. :)
I was going to say, I'm surprised they didn't have much to say about Side B, once the percentages are more on your side there's a bit more you can do with it.
This is incorrect. Confusion works like Snake's down throw where higher percentages will give you frame advantage. Grounded confusion doesn't combo into forward air because of the 3 frame jump squat. You can only follow up on a grounded confusion if the enemy doesn't buffer an option. At higher percents you can follow up with a smash attack and sometimes catch them. A short hop confusion into a buffered forward air is a true combo and a kill confirm at %140. Already being in the air gives you those 3 extra frames which is what makes it true
@@peerinward I personally prefer using melee and sword users like Link (who I've gotten to be really good at combo strings into supers), Marth (although he's been nerfed to hell he's still really strong with combos and his supers are affective),and Lucinda is good as well as Roy. That said, MewTwo, Pikachu, and JigglyPuff are my others I love using. Cloud on occasion, but only to counter my dad's Roy because his Roy is seriously good.
New to smash ultimate. These guides have been very helpful. Could you do Robin? Im thinking about having him be my main, but there really is not a lot of info on how his moves work together or the play styles he is good at.
Robin's one of those "under the radar" characters, that you don't see a lot of talk about online. But trust me, once you figure out Robin, he/she can be very rewarding.
@@SandwitchZebra I just think its odd for a character with a tactics and strategy theme and play style to have so little info about them. Managed to find a couple of kill confirms on my own while playing against the AI. I also managed to thoron snipe pac man with his own fire hydrant. Its hard for me to play the faster characters and Im enjoying the slower play style.
@Erric Emerson Jul is really good. Guy can juggle books and swords while launching thorons which is no easy feat. He makes great use of Robin's whole kit.
@Erric Emerson I don't think Robin needs a buff. The play style is slower and more technical which is part of the reason why I like it. There is an ebb and flow with Robin's play style that a lot of people miss out on. You can switch from long to short range pressure at the drop of a hat. You have two great grabs for punishing shielding and some short but powerful combos. I honestly can't think of a single buff to Robin that would actually help as Robin has the tools to take down pretty much any character in any situation.
@Erric Emerson Its really not as long of a wait as you think. Im fairly sure there is a mechanic with the bronze sword that increases the charge rate of the levin sword with each smash attack and aerial as well so it actually benefits you to be aggressive with the bronze sword as you should get the levin sword back faster. Im also fairly sure that the bronze sword can still do decent damage. Around 8% on some attacks. You also have the option to swap out the swords for mind games. If the opponent is not keeping track of your weapons you can use that as a punish. At any given time you can swap a bronze aerial into a levin aerial. Most Levin aerials can kill due to the strong knock back. So the chief disadvantage that Robin has is pretty minor. If you look at the changes Robin lost some charges on some of his attacks and the ability to start with the levin sword, but gain more consistent kill power and faster recharging tools.
Hey Choctopus, I love your videos and think you make the absolute best guides. I'm trying to pick up a roy or palutena so if you could make a guide for either of them that would be great
Mewtwo’s up tilt is so much more useful. You can actually still Up Tilt into Up Smash just like in Smash 4. Also Throwing mini shadow balls gives good enough stun to surprise opponents with a Disable. Also video never went over the insane kill confirms Mewtwo’s Confusion has in the air! Confusion in the air hits right into Shadow Claw at high percents.
Good guide but I do want to mention that backthrow is a kill throw at higher percents by the ledge. Upthrow will start killing about 140-150 ish percent depending on character weight and stage
Hated Mewtwo in Melee/4 but messed around with him in Ultimate and was surprised by how fun he was. Might give him some more time after this vid, thanks! Also Roy for the next video please!

The nair into upsmash is most consistent on short characters while fast-falling it. Even then, sometimes they'll pop out to the side instead of above, giving them a hard punish if you go for the up smash. Downthrow is awesome for setting them up for a tech on a platform, where you can get pretty early kills with a charged upsmash

However, by the time I unlocked Mewtwo, I had already commited 30+ hours of muscle memory to Zelda. As alluded to in the video, Mewtwo's so floaty (but not in a lame Kirby, Puff or Meta Knight kind of way) that you can make up your air "combos" on the fly via reactions, rather than rote memorizing a load of pre-set combos for specific opponents, percentages, (etc.). It's almost like playing with Matrix bullet time, or with practice mode set to 1/2 speed for other characters. Rosalina is good for this too. Also, as a Zelda main, I wish I could play the off stage game more. It feels like a fun and unique feature of Smash games in general, and Mewtwo's easy-to-hit Fiars/Bairs/Dairs and rangey (and easy-to-control) recovery mean that he is perfect for that aspect of the game. If you do confusion between 80-110% for most characters you can do a short hop forward air for a guaranteed kill setup
I was going to say, I'm surprised they didn't have much to say about Side B, once the percentages are more on your side there's a bit more you can do with it.
Nah u have to be in the air before so jump confusion fair starts to work at 110+, depending on what frame their airdodges are
Confusion is also good for juking in the air. You can fall diagonally, use confusion, then teleport diagonally in the other direction.
Short hop confusion is what you want to use into forward air not what this guys said .
