AUTEL is an unethical company that takes advantage of its consumers. I acquired a maxisys pro in 2015 and had no reason to upgrade its software because it was compatible with all of my vehicles. A free update released an application that works like ransomware and installs a timer that prevents you from accessing the diagnostic part of the tool. Now, all I get is a “Software is not authorized!” message when I try to use the diagnostic part of my tool The only available option is to purchase an upgrade from Autel for $1400.00. Product knotting is illegal in the United States, and this corporation should be severely punished for what they're doing to their customers in order to create cash flow due to the recent lawsuit Autel settled.
I have exactly the same experience, Bought an Autel MPpro 808ts with 1 year free update. Didn't want to update after 1 year as it worked for my cars. But when I tested it against my Volvo S90 2017 (SPA platform), the instrument required an internet connection. Then I understood that it will not work after the first year. Which is also true. To read out the Volvo SPA platform, I also think that Chrysler works that way, so you have to pay Autel every year. For this tool, it costs 459 dollars per year, a scandal I would say. So what he says in the video is not true.

Just bought an xtool ip819. In case your wondering because I can't find any info on specifics for supported vehicles on any scan tool. The xtool I bought does not talk to drb 3. So any dodge between 98-07... I've tried it on two different 05 dodges. Same story on both. One is a ram 3500 the other a neon. Support told me If I want to use it on diesel vehicles to buy a diesel scan tool. (The 819 being marketed with 31 special functions and one of which being dpf systems. Which if you don't know is diesel particulate filter.) So I was more than a little pissed to hear this. Figured they mistook what I was saying as me working on a semi I tried to clarify that, then I was met with a reply that indicated the email I was responding to was a general support ticket generator. I sent everything explaining my concerns and the questions I was needing answers to only to not get a response. I'll be returning it and not buying another xtool. Really wanted to like this scanner.
i think xtool a30m is perfect for diy guy,the free subscriptions for me are what make the difference between paper weight and usable device.put yourself in this position,your friend/family member has a issue with their car,your just a diy guy,how any would cough up $40 just to look at that car one time because you have to buy that cars make subscription and that sub only lasts a year. most would never use it and when they did they would use it far far less then the free subscription scanner. i got the xtool a30m that is the $600 platform just in a bluetooth dongle cutting cost to $200.the fact you get pretty much identical platform as these devices/free sub at $200 makes this imo the best deal for the diy guy
Excellent Review. I'm looking at the xtool a30m which is described as very similar to the d7 in function-minus programming. It's around 200 dollars and you provide your own android phone/tablet.

Autel recieved a big massive update like month ago and now it does have active tests and covered quite alot models, own this tool and tested it out on s class benz absolutely supreme update! Overall it does scan better than others, why? Been comparing it with different scanners some of those cant read trouble code even out or they just put you referer to owners manual, but once you hit autel up it shows everything proper fault code number, where and why and you can find soultion much faster.
THANK YOU. I had a bad experience with a xtool scanner recently. SO based on your remark, I just now ordered a new MaxiCheck mx808 I hope it does well enough for my 01 Ram 1500 with "fuel timing" issue.
@@robsdeviceunknown The mx808 has some big updates that allows you to reset service light that can't be reset under the oil service light function on the mk808 (for certain makes) you have to access the special function to do it on the mk808. Iv just managed to understand the dpf regen data using this tool and it lets you see when the car goes into regen mode without a forced regen letting you know when the next regen will next kick in which is every 600km. The mk808 is a paper weight if you don't understand the numbers, what you are looking at and what ECU to look under.
Thanks for this. Can the iCarSoft force regen on a Vivaro? Or a MB E220D/2015? Reason I ask is that many reviews tell you that DPF regens are covered..... But they don't work!

For People that have Holden Commodores! The icarsoft only goes as far back as 2005 so people with older Holden commodores like myself (1994-97 VR Commodore) the scan tool is useless so do your research or talk to your local mechanic to buy a scanner that will read your old commodore.
I purchased an Xtool D7 new in October 2023. For the most part it works well but the one thing that does not work is the live data is not that accurate. The Xtool sampling rate is too slow. Xtool said they would fix it. Then they came back and said they would not fix it but instead gave me an additional year of updates. Big woopee

Great in depth testing reviews. Question for you. Which scanner would support Volvo transmission shifting adaptation learning? I purchased the icarsoft CR Max but Volvo was not a vehicle make Option to choose from within the Service Tab? Can you recommend a scanner that has Volvo Transmission protocol. Very poor customer service, no contact number, no respond on email… if not helping I need money back. I got issues with pdf reports an email…. I just bought last week. I cant set up an email account it keeps giving me an error message of wrong username/password but i know 100% it is correct. And it wont allow me email the pdf reports until the email issue is fixed. Why no mention of Launch? I use it and find it way better than my Autel 908pro. It does bidirectional and actuatiobs and coding and I only pay £100 a year for updates through a non franchised dealer.
Which one should I get if I want to diagnose to pull up codes that was reset by the owner of the car? I notice that seller now reset the car to sell it but when u buy it and the engine light will come back on in a week or so. Don’t want to get scam. Appreciate the help

I purchased a iCarsoft FA v2.0 for resetting oil or reading codes on my 2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvios (we have 2 Stelvios). I upgraded to latest firmware successfully but the iCarsoft FA 2.0 (Fiat Alfa Romeo) cannot see any of the Stelvios! When will Stelvio support be available so I can use this FA 2.0 scanner? Maybe on your marketing and sales videos/website you should spell out that the FA 2.0 (Fiat Alfa Romeo) cannot see the Stelvio models. Because the Stelvio is (by far) the most popular Alfa Romeo in the US and you are selling scanners here that do not work on it!

I purchased the Xtool D8 several months ago, but just started to use it more and found while looking at freeze frame data from a 2013 Nissan Frontier, there are PIDs with data displayed that are named Option 1, Option 2 thru Option 8. Not sure what these PIDs are for so I contacted the Xtool help email and after an exhausting 4 days back and forth they say they are not sure to contact S4 Shop. This is really messed up when the Manufacturer dosent know about their own product. Buyer beware.
Maybe it's the vehicle not the tool ?? Curious. I'm brand new here bc of issues I can not afford to have dealer fix, either now or future, so trying to learn to hopefully to be a DIY er. as I was before electronics.

Thank you for the video I am currently working on figuring out an EVAP leak somewhere and just purchased a new EVAP Smoke machine from Autoline Pro called the Ventus. But I have watched other videos that mention that you need to close the vent valve before testing. So not sure if finding a ScanTool that can control the vent valve to open or close it is considered a "Special Feature/Function/Option" or if the ability to do that is a standard option found in anything of these tools? The term that I learned that was called “bidirectional” this term means that the scandal has the ability to trigger sensors and solenoids throughout the car. So I purchased a TopDon ArtiDiag Pro for what I could afford and gave me what I needed. Plus I was also able to purchase from eBay a copy of TechStream and a special dongle for the OBD2 connection the exact software that the dealer uses to work on the car, so together I was able to find and repair the issue and now have now EVAP codes! I am very happy

I am going to change the Electric motor in my Renault Zoe Year Model 2019. And then I have to copy the data from the BCB and PEB Module. And then copy in the data after the Elmotor change. hi. by far your videos are the most informative when choosing a scan tool. so thank you for that. can you help me a bit more though. i am looking for a scan tool that will do all the normal everyday scans and resets but i also need it to be able to recode things like a semi auto gearbox actuator robot on a renault trafic. i am getting anew recon unit and it will need codeing to the van. i have been advised that autel are good. i have emailed them but they have not got back to me. i am not a mechanic by trade, i restore classic cars and damaged cars so sometimes i have to turn off lights on the dash but i dont want to be paying a fortune for a scan tool. i was hoping to get the one i need for under £600 could you recomend some that will do the job i need it to do please. thank you john

Also things like wiring diagrams or test procedures and known good waveforms... do any of these have such a database?

I know the autel will do that. I researched several before going with the Autel Maxisys MS906 PRO. But I believe the one reviewed in this video will operate the antilock motor and solenoids also.
Do any of these support older (classic) cars? I'm specifically interested in a tool that is backward compatible with Volvo models from about 1995 to 2005, but hopefully is also forward compatible.
@@richardweinberger2756 I'm in the UK, and have unfortunately fallen foul of code scanners Thar promise to read our '99 year Volvos, but then either fail to read any codes, or simply fail to connect with the car. Both of the Volvos are OBDII equipped, and as yet have only ever given any info via a Snap-On Solus reader, but they're just a tad expensive for our needs, plus the subscription costs as well. Really, I'd like to be able to "try before I buy" anything of my own. I already have an Autel of some description or other, which doesn't recognise our Volvos, and have even borrowed one or two other readers, all to no avail. Sadly, I can't justify the cost of a Snap-On reader, otherwise that's what I'd go for.

A year ago I found iCarSoft MBII couldn't do the diesel re-generation on my car, today I found it has no live data on the air suspension, pretty bad for a $300+ scanner, not recommended.

A30m is not 600$ . Its just like d7 but slower, dont do prog or keys. Less live graphs etc..

Thanks for this. Can the iCarSoft force regen on a Vivaro? Or a MB E220D/2015? Reason I ask is that many reviews tell you that DPF regens are covered..... But they don't work!

The icarsoft only goes as far back as 2005 so people with older Holden commodores like myself (1994-97 VR Commodore) the scan tool is useless so do your research or talk to your local mechanic to buy a scanner that will read your old commodore.

I purchased an Xtool D7 new in October 2023. For the most part it works well but the one thing that does not work is the live data is not that accurate. The Xtool sampling rate is too slow. Xtool said they would fix it. Then they came back and said they would not fix it but instead gave me an additional year of updates. Big woopee

The headlight was replaced but now the error light keeps showing and so far all of the used scan tools where not able to turn off the error.

I purchased a iCarsoft FA v2.0 for resetting oil or reading codes on my 2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvios (we have 2 Stelvios).
I upgraded to latest firmware successfully but the iCarsoft FA 2.0 (Fiat Alfa Romeo) cannot see any of the Stelvios!
When will Stelvio support be available so I can use this FA 2.0 scanner?
Maybe on your marketing and sales videos/website you should spell out that the FA 2.0 (Fiat Alfa Romeo) cannot see the Stelvio models. Because the Stelvio is (by far) the most popular Alfa Romeo in the US and you are selling scanners here that do not work on it!

I purchased the Xtool D8 several months ago, but just started to use it more and found while looking at freeze frame data from a 2013 Nissan Frontier, there are PIDs with data displayed that are named Option 1, Option 2 thru Option 8. Not sure what these PIDs are for so I contacted the Xtool help email and after an exhausting 4 days back and forth they say they are not sure to contact S4 Shop. This is really messed up when the Manufacturer dosent know about their own product. Buyer beware.
Maybe it's the vehicle not the tool ?? Curious. I'm brand new here bc of issues I can not afford to have dealer fix, either now or future, so trying to learn to hopefully to be a DIY er. as I was before electronics.
I'm returning my D7 today after I asked them a question and they said, sorry you bought it from a different seller, can't help you. It didn't even start with a hello, or thank you for buying our product. Rude. Atleast for me, they don't deserve a penny of my money.

I am currently working on figuring out an EVAP leak somewhere and just purchased a new EVAP Smoke machine from Autoline Pro called the Ventus. But I have watched other videos that mention that you need to close the vent valve before testing. So not sure if finding a ScanTool that can control the vent valve to open or close it is considered a "Special Feature/Function/Option" or if the ability to do that is a standard option found in anything of these tools? Thank you for the question. The term that I learned that was called “bidirectional” this term means that the scandal has the ability to trigger sensors and solenoids throughout the car. So I purchased a TopDon ArtiDiag Pro for what I could afford and gave me what I needed. Plus I was also able to purchase from eBay a copy of TechStream and a special dongle for the OBD2 connection the exact software that the dealer uses to work on the car, so together I was able to find and repair the issue and now have now EVAP codes! I am very happy

You need to buy the VAWS unit. But beware, the VAWS V3.0 does not work on cars after 2022.
hi. by far your videos are the most informative when choosing a scan tool. so thank you for that. can you help me a bit more though. i am looking for a scan tool that will do all the normal everyday scans and resets but i also need it to be able to recode things like a semi auto gearbox actuator robot on a renault trafic. i am getting anew recon unit and it will need codeing to the van. i have been advised that autel are good. i have emailed them but they have not got back to me. i am not a mechanic by trade, i restore classic cars and damaged cars so sometimes i have to turn off lights on the dash but i dont want to be paying a fortune for a scan tool. i was hoping to get the one i need for under £600 could you recomend some that will do the job i need it to do please.

Also things like wiring diagrams or test procedures and known good waveforms... do any of these have such a database?

be careful, before you buy any of these, see if they sell spare connectors or leads which do break or get lost in a busy workshop
Do any of these support older (classic) cars? I'm specifically interested in a tool that is backward compatible with Volvo models from about 1995 to 2005, but hopefully is also forward compatible.
I don't know where you live,, in the U.S. any car made after 1996 is an ODB2 system, which means that all of these will work on those Volvo's.
@@richardweinberger2756 I'm in the UK, and have unfortunately fallen foul of code scanners Thar promise to read our '99 year Volvos, but then either fail to read any codes, or simply fail to connect with the car. Both of the Volvos are OBDII equipped, and as yet have only ever given any info via a Snap-On Solus reader, but they're just a tad expensive for our needs, plus the subscription costs as well.
Really, I'd like to be able to "try before I buy" anything of my own. I already have an Autel of some description or other, which doesn't recognise our Volvos, and have even borrowed one or two other readers, all to no avail.
Sadly, I can't justify the cost of a Snap-On reader, otherwise that's what I'd go for.

Look up Fuel inertia switch for your vehicle. Then if it still wont start, get the scan tool.

A year ago I found iCarSoft MBII couldn't do the diesel re-generation on my car, today I found it has no live data on the air suspension, pretty bad for a $300+ scanner, not recommended.
