@@FarpointRestorationsAndRepairsSo how do any of these scan tools address the issue of security gateway that is present on late model Chrysler vehicles and I'm sure other manufacturers as well?
Great video. Been a DIY for over 30 years. (I maintain three vehicles) I started out with a basic $60 code reader. Then to a Launch CRP123 in 2019. Launch X431 CRP919E Elite Bidirectional in 2023. Launch X431 Pro Elite in 2024. The X431 Pro Elite is my favorite. I like being able to take decent pictures with a flash. (Not having to use my cellphone) I like the Android OS and apps. (Mine doesn't have the Google Play Store though) I can save reports in PDF format and send by email to my customer. Having the ES Flie Explore app allows me to organize everything in one place on the tablet scanner. I can even do a Google search if needed. (Again, not having to use my cellphone) I have the TPMS TSgun, Endoscope and car battery tester. Had to pay extra for the addons, but well worth it. As you said, knowing the features you want, and need is key. I really like having the camera and place to store all documents and pictures. I normally keep hard copies in the house, garage and on my laptop. I will never get rid of the hard copies, but like being able to pull things up digitally while I'm working.
The Elite is such a great tool. I agree that it really ups the game with the shop software it comes with. Makes customer databases all on the tool a reality.
Hi sir, I am planning to buy a scan tool but I’m not used to it. My main reason is to monitor live data stream like in 7:07 . Is X431 able to do that and how many datas can it do at once?
I'm surprised at how many shops and mechanics don't have one of the fancier scan tools. I suspect it's cause they are afraid of the technology. Anyhow, I'm just a videographer by trade and I bought an Xtool D7 since I have 5 vehicles and I seem to be the person all my friends come to for help on their cars. I've only owned it for 6 months but it has already paid for itself many times over. For example, I was able to diagnose an issue on my 97 GMC Savana that wasn't throwing a code, but live data helped my figure it out. My 2011 Hyundai Equus has had the ECS light on for months, needing its air ride suspension recalibrated. I was able to do the calibration myself, saving myself hundreds of dollars vs going to the dealer cause no mechanic knew how to calibrate the air suspension. There are more examples. Ohh, I just purchased a used Audi last week and I brought my Xtool D7 to read codes. 1 thing it saw that I wouldn't have noticed saved me a bunch of money. The passenger seat heating element was faulty. You can press the buttwarmer button to turn it on, just that it doesn't heat up. And every time I looked at the car, it was warm/hot out, so I wouldn't have noticed it wasn't actually heating. But my scan tool noticed! I still bought the car, the dealer ordered a new seat for it. I've never used any other fancy scanner, but I love this Xtool D7. Zero regrets.
Time to upgrade to pro level scanner! I started with entry then mid level. Your absolutely right about mid level, will pull codes and stuff but I be finding myself in many situations where I need more access.
Thanks for the educative videos... am a kenyan i have been trying to set up such a garage but capital is an issue, hope one day this vision will come to fruition
Best advice I can give you- Follow your dreams. You don't need to have all the fancy tools and equipment to be a good mechanic. Start out slow and build your way up. Some of the best shops close to where I live and small and older, but they do great quality work, the fancy new places are the ones to watch out for, they are trying to make up all the money they spent buying all the stuff. Good Luck to you my friend
I have a pad 7. So far, its been the best mechanic scan tool I've ever used. Launch did an excellent job for the most part but I would not recommend Launch to a locksmith. They'll do almost anything else but they only have basic IMMO abilities, even after purchasing the $500 Immo software, key programmer, and the Prog3 anti theft device. There are a few seasoned veteran locksmiths that can get Launch scanners to fully cooperate in IMMO but i couldn't.
I believe the icon scanners have oem diagrams, repair solutions, labor estimates, and such, but its also 299 a year after the first year to have that info. But at 800, its a tempting buy... i ended up getting an xtool for now, got it for sub 300, so definitely happy about that price.
I love your videos, I have been a master tech for over 40 years. Bought mant of Snapon and Matco tools. my last one was a Matco, it is just a launch and have had to have it repaired a couple of times, My Matco guy sends it to Launch. I just recieved my new launch tonight, The LAUNCH X431 PRO3S+. It is the same tool Matco sells for 4k. I got it on a lightning deal from Amazon for $921 . Same tool and hooked it up to my car tonight and already like it!

Topdon Topscan is $59 on amazon right now and is bi directional. It’s the most bang for the buck. Thankfully the price of these things are getting more realistic. Thanks for the video!
I bought an xtool d8 about 3yrs ago. I didn't know much about scan tools and I just wanted an all system bi directional tool at an affordable price. Great tool but a big gripe I have is that it's corded. At the time xtool hadn't come out with the cordless d8. I just ordered a Lauch pro3s. I think it has everything I wish my xtool had like wireless connect, a battery voltage display, and Google playstore. After some experience you realize what you wish you had. The xtool still gets the job done so it will be my back👍
Great video. I appreciate the straightforward information. As a professional Tech in a one-man shop with just myself I can't afford to spend tons on scanners and technology. Looking to upgrade my hotel ms906bt right now. What's crazy about all these scan tools that you go to their website and they have like a hundred models. And it's really hard to tell the difference between any of them. Thank you for your recommendations!
I bought the LAUNCH X.431 PRO3S+ V5 (now updated to V7) about 18 months ago with 2yr free updates on nearly all cars globally on the market. It has fully functional Bluetooth, so no cables and you can walk around the vehicle and test lights etc. Bi directional. This was under 1000USD when some scan tools can be in the region of 4500USD and as far as I am aware they are not as good as the Launch X.431 PRO3S+ but that is my opinion.
I'm looking at buying a scan tool and I have 99 f350, 15 f350, 08 tacoma, 02 sequoia and am getting a big delivery truck something like a 08 freightliner mt45 or similar. I'd like a scann tool that will cover the range of vehicles I have and I know everything is obd2 besides the bigger delivery trucks which 8s a round plug.
Thanks for this! Keep this videos coming, I need to watch more videos like this since I'm starting 200 level classes in automotive program, and is mostly diagnostics. I need to buy a scan tool to play with..
Thanks, I have a few more coming out eventually- I hope that you do well in your classes. Take your time and think the problems through and you will be fine. Sometimes it is best to think outside the box.
As a DIYer in the UK with a 2011 Ford S-MAX - I recently had DPF regeneration issue .. first spent £50 on basic OBD reader, then another £50 on a slightly better one to get better code data. In the end I also got the Launch X431 pros elite for £460 to be able to clear dpf learnt values and prime the vaporiser. Should have got the x431 in the first place. Will need it for further jobs like parking brake reset in near future.
Yup! If you are going to be doing that kind of work, your already a tech! Time to get a good tool for sure. The code readers are fine for new to the industry guys but once you really get rolling, it's time to move up.
Some of the biggest things missing in these reviews are Does it have topology? What is the refresh rate of data pid graphing? How many data pids can be viewed in graph at once. For a diagnostic tech, these are crucial. I appreciate your showing these tools if you could include those points it would be great
True. One of the things I tried to find out before buying a scan tool were the polling rates but unfortunately no one mentions it and the scanners themselves don't show it. You can only have a rough idea by watching the graphs and how fast they react to for example pressing the accelerator pedal. I got a launch crp919e BT and it is fast enough and compared to other much more expensive scanners there's little to no difference. It also depends on the car too and how many PID's you've selected. I know xtool scanners are super slow and there's no use in watching graphs to diagnose something. Scannerdanner said this and it saved me a few hundreds. Opted for the launch.
Yep That's what I've been chasing for years, all of the above. It's amazing how the diag everything has changed a lot. The approach thru to the customer delivery. Can be easier and streamlined and most miss the boat and struggle without proper scanning of all modules etc before diving into repairs etc .. Most techs are lost especially on customer service 🐕🦺
guys, graphing over slow connection is poor .... - Guess why ?? The car own bus gateway is already maxed out with car data. This slow speed is one of the CAN Bus issue, not only slow scanner. What module causes that... the Bosch "ABS /ESP" (no fault code detected!)
Right now I’m thinking the best choice might be the new Gearwrench pro dongle and a separate oscilloscope. All together for $175 you can have the capability that many $500-1000+tools have and now harbor freight has a repair shop software like fix assist. I forget what they call it but it’s $25 a month/ 300 a year
OBDII code reader is all I need. Rest comes from 65 years of hands on experience. Relying on these fancy monitors will lead you in wrong direction making you do the wrong things.
@@FarpointRestorationsAndRepairs Most problems have a pattern, or common root cause. I trust my experience much more than any scan tool. I can't tell you how many times I worked on cars that others tried fixing using fancy scan tools.
@@samkitty5894 I have a 97 GMC Savana with the 5.7 Vortec engine. Only has 65,000 miles (all by me). Long crank, sometimes won't turn over. No fault codes. This was actually just 2 months ago. I typed out what was wrong that was easily diagnosed with a fancy tool, but I deleted what I wrote. Just for fun, what do you think the possibilities are? Make sure to tag me so that I can come back to tell you what I found.
@@smc1377 Assuming you have a spark on the plugs I would suspect fuel filter, fuel pump relay, fuel pressure regulator, Fuel pump or the wiring between them...maybe corroded contacts. That would be a good start...
@@samkitty5894 So the amateur mechanic in me would start with all those things also. But the curious part of me hooked up the fancy scanner to look at the live data first. As I scrolled down, one thing jumped out at me. The ECT sensor reading. I can't recall the exact temp, but it was reading about 100 degrees too low. Because the engine coolant temp sensor was still reporting a temperature, the van didn't think there was a problem, hence why no codes thrown. But it was reading the wrong temp. And so since the vehicle believed it was negative temps, it was dumping fuel into the engine when attempting to start. The fuel/air mixture was WAY off since it was in the high 80's and low 90's at the time. The part was like a $20 part, took 20 minutes for me to replace. Checked the live data again and it was reporting 88 degrees, which is around what ambient temp was at the time. Van started right up and has worked perfectly fine since. So it took me in total, 20 minutes to read and identify the possible problem, 20 minutes to drive to Advance Auto for the part, and 20 minutes to install. I can tell you that without that fancy scan tool with live data, there was absolutely no chance that I would have ever guessed a faulty engine coolant temp sensor would cause long crank, sometimes no start. I would have wasted hours trying to hunt down the problem, ultimately ending with me paying a shop hundreds of dollars to track down that simple $20 solution. And like I commented elsewhere here, I saved hundreds also by being able to re-calibrate my air suspension on my Hyundai Equus. I also saved a bunch of money last week by bringing the scanner to a used car dealership before buying my Audi A7. The scanner was able to find a fault in the electronics of the front passenger seat. The dealer ended up ordering a new seat as a condition of sale.
Thanks for the kind words! I tried to make sure that all levels of people interested in scan tools would be able to make an informed decision after watching.
I like what you've done and information you're giving but the simple fact is most people can't take full advantage of a higher end scan tool. Most don't know how to use them to there full advantage.
My channel aims to help the many techs that really don't know much about cars and help them to understand that these tools are far more than simple code readers. I love Identifix, but I feel it's making a lot of techs give up on learning the real way to diag a car.
Thanks for the good info! I just have a OBDLink Bluetooth reader right now but I’m not an expert tech or anything. I’d like to find a less expensive Bluetooth OBD tool that can program Fords using Forscan
Snap on's warranty is for however long they carry the tool. NOT lifetime you own it. So special tools especially warranty ends the sec they stop it from sales.
I could use some advice. Last year I bought a thinkscan sr4. I wanted something that could read all the systems in my 2011 silverado and 09 CR-V. I didn't realize that it would only scan a couple of systems, and everything else is a yearly fee! Is there a scan tool that doesn't have all these dumb subscriptions?? I just want one that will diagnose engine, transmission, abs, and stuff like that. Any help would be appreciated. I spent like $300 or so and it basically does what my $40 code reader does.
Sadly nearly all scan tools that offer in depth bi-directional controls have a yearly subscription. I can't think of any that offer a one time only fee.
That really depends on what kind of repairs that you are needing/wanting to do. Many if the newer cars have tons of computers and electronics and the fancier tools are more helpful
Back then an better scan tool , not obd2 , for one brand car was around $3000 , today one that do all cars all systems is around 300 . Here China really did some good .
The Icon T10 from Harbor Freight. Good choice? Or is the one on left of your video better? I plan on buying one soon. Trying to decide on brand. Want something that does everything, like bleed breaks , reset timing, check for a misfire or maybe coil/spark plug issue. What would you suggest for a new tech repair person starting out repairing older Vehicles.1980s to earmy 2000s...IE:: Honda, Toyota, Nissan, GMC, Chevy, Ford, etc
You won't find a decent aftermarket unit. Non will code injectors, non will really get into it. The Pacar guys don't read DD or Cummins, and the TCM talks to the ECM, even clutches are adjusted with a scanner tool on Automatic Trans. Years ago I worked at a Cat dealer, and already in the late 90 s we were coding every week though our dealer link to Cat, password changed every week to my Service Managers email,as techs were loading their personal laptops so they could scan on weekends, all the big HD are gone to that. So it's hard, but a few pirate systems are out there, but again, each and every brand had their own system
I want a fully universal tool that is fully bi directional and will perform initialising and system resets, that works for every single actuated part and will read and reset every sensor, with lifetime free updates. Why does it not exist?
Greed. Not so much from the makers of scan tools, but from the makers of cars. They don't want you to have access to ANY of this stuff. It's been in the courts for decades now.

Excellent video, w helpful info on the various levels of features and functionality. Towards the end of the video, you mentioned diagnostic options that are "software only," designed to be installed on a laptop or PC, similar to TIS. I'm interested in this alternative solution, and what your thoughts are on this approach. Do you have any recommendations or videos covering this topic, and the products that are available? Specifically, what software is available for the "All Makes & Models" Diagnostic Techs & Mechanics, that don't work at a "Manufacturer OEM Specific" dealership.? TIA
So when it comes to pure software based tools. Nearly all that I have worked with are model specific. Toytota uses TIS, Volvo Uses VIDA, and so on. The only (Now extinct) program I recall that was a "Bring your own laptop" kind of solution came from OTC and it was the Genysis touch program. They stopped supporting it a few years back though.
Good day mate. I'm looking to buy a used car in Europe. The problem is that most cars there have fake mileage. I don't know which car yet. If you can tell me which scanner ( which can I buy In Australia ) , can read the right mileage from the largest number of the cars. Thanks.
MOst of the mid level and pro level will show mileage based off the ECM. I am not sure how they are faking the mileage on the cars. It is highly illegal in the US, so I never looked too far on how they were doing it. I am sorry there are so many bad people out there who do stupid stuff like that. Good luck to you

I read in a review on Amazon under Launch Elite that after purchasing it you need to purchase separate software module for each car to work on them and the lifetime free update mentioned is just for the base software. Is this true?
No. That is a lie. The subscription covers everything, and renewals do as well. Launch USA pays folks to write bogus reviews as Global Launch products cost 1/3rd and work just as good.
Quick question Eric, I need to replace a front relay fuse box which it also a bcm on a 2007 Jaguar to cure the dreaded “Smart Key Not Found”. I’m replacing it with a used one and have to match the VIN….Do you think the Launch x431 would have that special function?
@@FarpointRestorationsAndRepairs This BCM is not the immobilizer unit, it just controls the antennas for the wireless feature….the car turns on and works properly with both keys physically on the slot designed for when the smart key battery dies. Great informative video but I do have a question. I'm about to get a Ford Transit Connect XLT 2012. The seller tells me there's a small issue of that the car will slip in first gear but besides that the car works perfectly. He went on and had it checked out but the problem was they told him the transmission was fine or at some point they told him the transmission needed to be changed. So some person suggested to me a diagnostic tool of like the ones that you show. And to go into the diagnostic and clear the transmission data that should realign the transmission to work in the right way. Would you recommend getting one of these tools or just having someone who has one of these devices come and reset the vehicle? Help me Obi-Wan and thank you
I would not recommend purchasing that vehicle at all. Lots of times if you use a scan tool to realign the transmission can cause it to fail. If it starting to slip, that is a red flag. Do your self a favor and walk away from this one- you will be happier if you did. The car works "Perfectly" is your key word that there are issues.

I just looked into the Launch X431 Pro Elite on Amazon and "lightning deals" based on some comments here. I just saw a lot of unhappy people saying their units were used, have no support from Launch, the ones received don't support American vehicles (chinese region only), and the seller/tech support is in China. Reviewers say they like their Autel better. So many options, not enough reviews, too many bad reviews (as with most electronics nowadays).
I don't know where those comments come from, but I suspect it's from Launch's USA PR. I've owned several models now and had very few issues. When I do have an issue, I contact Kingbloen (the US distributor) and they always take care of me. US Launch costs 3x as much and offer exactly 0% more than the global version. my best guess is they are spamming global sellers to make them look like a bad pick.

Good to know!
Hilo bro
Do you mean launch immo is not good?
Thank you
@@هيمولوف I've never had any issues with programming keys or remotes.
@user-go3fr7cc3o not for Promaster or Ram truck but basic stuff may be OK. A couple of honda and newer toyota was a synch but it struggled with dodge

Thank you for answer bro
Do you have any idea between these two categories? Autel immo 608pro2 vs immo plus?
I believe the icon scanners have oem diagrams, repair solutions, labor estimates, and such, but its also 299 a year after the first year to have that info. But at 800, its a tempting buy... i ended up getting an xtool for now, got it for sub 300, so definitely happy about that price.
I hadn't heard that. Sounds like a version of Shop-Key in there. Pretty cool.
I've been using autel and snap-on for decades. I'm thinking about getting the one you just bought especially for the can buss and key programming. What do you think? Should I grab one they are still right at a grand on Amazon.
The PRO3S+ Is literally the best they offer and is far better than any Snap-on product currently made. I love mine.

What happens after 2 year subscription? Need to buy all manufacturer subscriptions separate? Or one package?
Cost per year or monthly?
I just can’t decide on what tool
In the market at around $1,000 max.
Would like mapping.
Launch or autel what I’m leaning more on.
Thank you
@@aLaCartePizza After the 2 year subscription you just won't get any updates no more. You should still be able to use it like before, just without the newest updates. You can purchase the updates yearly
Topdon Topscan is $59 on amazon right now and is bi directional. It’s the most bang for the buck. Thankfully the price of these things are getting more realistic. Thanks for the video!
Good to know on that price
I bought an xtool d8 about 3yrs ago. I didn't know much about scan tools and I just wanted an all system bi directional tool at an affordable price. Great tool but a big gripe I have is that it's corded. At the time xtool hadn't come out with the cordless d8. I just ordered a Lauch pro3s. I think it has everything I wish my xtool had like wireless connect, a battery voltage display, and Google playstore. After some experience you realize what you wish you had. The xtool still gets the job done so it will be my back👍
I had a similar experience with the old Genesis tool, it was a good tool, but did not have everything I never knew I needed
Glad it was helpful!
I ordered a foxwell nt1009 its the first time purchasing a diagnostic scanner hopefully it works
I have heard good things about that one, you will have to let me know what you think of it
I bought the LAUNCH X.431 PRO3S+ V5 (now updated to V7) about 18 months ago with 2yr free updates on nearly all cars globally on the market.
That is a great tool as well. These pro level tools from Launch are really top tier tools.
That's a tough call. For the cars, the Launch X431 series is the perfect pick. The HD trucks? I wish I could help!
Thanks for the clear guidance. Advanced engineers should go with the Launch x431 pros elite, absolutely good device if you are a DIY.
I've been VERY happy with mine!!
LAUNCH is serious about good software development 👍👍
Does it do immo keys and all keys lost?
As a DIYer in the UK with a 2011 Ford S-MAX - I recently had DPF regeneration issue .. first spent £50 on basic OBD reader, then another £50 on a slightly better one to get better code data.
In the end I also got the Launch X431 pros elite for £460 to be able to clear dpf learnt values and prime the vaporiser. Should have got the x431 in the first place. Will need it for further jobs like parking brake reset in near future.
Yup! If you are going to be doing that kind of work, your already a tech! Time to get a good tool for sure. The code readers are fine for new to the industry guys but once you really get rolling, it's time to move up.
you can retract P-brake cylinder with 9 volt battery, and put back the same way.
Some of the biggest things missing in these reviews are
Does it have topology?
What is the refresh rate of data pid graphing?
How many data pids can be viewed in graph at once.
For a diagnostic tech, these are crucial. I appreciate your showing these tools if you could include those points it would be great
You'll need to check out my individual reviews on these tools. I cover ALL of those topics in depth in my scan tool reviews.
Yep
That's what I've been chasing for years, all of the above.
What module causes that... the Bosch "ABS /ESP" (no fault code detected!)
sir, if I were to buy one of the tools you show in the video, what would you recommend to me?
Nice honest to the point video comparison, great job !
Glad it was helpful!
Right now I’m thinking the best choice might be the new Gearwrench pro dongle and a separate oscilloscope. All together for $175 you can have the capability that many $500-1000+tools have and now harbor freight has a repair shop software like fix assist. I forget what they call it but it’s $25 a month/ 300 a year
If you know how to read it correctly, it could be an option
OBDII code reader is all I need. Rest comes from 65 years of hands on experience. Relying on these fancy monitors will lead you in wrong direction making you do the wrong things.
Well..... I can't agree with you on that one. Try diagnosing a can bus issue by sheer know-how.
I use a snap on verus. It's not fancy schmancy, but it works just fine
We had a Verus Pro but sold it as it was getting very slow with age.
I was hoping for more detailed information on VIDA. My VIDA pc just died, and I’m looking for information to improve my setup at this time.
Check out my old channel "Farpoint Farms" I have a detailed video on VIDA there.
just getting to the process of learning all this knowledge. i must say this video was super concise and informative. thank you!
New name suggestion... Rambling Man!
I have been called worse
I was looking for your video on the disappointing Autel scanner
I have not released that one yet. I hope to do so soon
Thanks for the good info! I just have a OBDLink Bluetooth reader right now but I’m not an expert tech or anything. I’d like to find a less expensive Bluetooth OBD tool that can program Fords using Forscan

Nice talk. Thank you. I am looking for more info on the XTool X100 PADS.
I haven't looked at that one yet. Sorry!
@FarpointRestorationsAndRepairs thank you
Snap on's warranty is for however long they carry the tool. NOT lifetime you own it. So special tools especially warranty ends the sec they stop it from sales.
And yet they could continue to sell their final upgrade forever. They just choose to screw the customer instead.
Excellent video. Thinking of buying a pro level scan tool. Thanks for sharing your video.
Glad I could help!
I have a obd reader is it worth buying a Pro Launch, I'm not a mechanic but I do work on my own cars
Yup! Times certainly changed!!
And Europe
Lol remember buying the "cards/chips"
I have an Autel. After my first paid upgrade, they removed some features. It went backwards not forwards!
Ugh, I wonder why
The Icon T10 from Harbor Freight. Good choice? Or is the one on left of your video better? I plan on buying one soon. Trying to decide on brand. Want something that does everything, like bleed breaks , reset timing, check for a misfire or maybe coil/spark plug issue. Tell me why my engine dummy light doesn't work at all , set tire speed for larger tires. I have a 2001 Ford Excursion V10 currently. Want something that can change information in dash IF putting a larger fuel tank on.
I have not used/tested one of the Icons yet. It is hard for me to tell you what one would be better for your.

I am just now hearing about it. I'll take a look.
I'm interested in a tool that will reprogram used control modules to a different car, ie. PSCM, ABS, BCM. Which tool can do this?
Once a module is married to a car, I don't think there is one that can undo that and reprogram.

What scanner should I buy to work on Toyota and Lexus Hybrid battery systems?
The Launch x431 Elite or ProS3+ would both be perfect for that kind of work. PS- I was a Toyota/Lexus tech back in the day, they are great cars
What would you suggest for a new tech repair person starting out repairing older Vehicles.1980s to earmy 2000s...IE:: Honda, Toyota, Nissan, GMC, Chevy, Ford, etc
It is slow, look for an OTC Genesis with the OBD1 adapters. They were great for those years and should be cheap to find. But they are SLOW....
I need to be able to check TCMs on big trucks.
You'll need to look for a scanner with HD coverage.
I want one that will read codes clears troubles and can program keys as well so what would be a good one
The Launch X431 Elite will do that with a lot of extras to boot!
I bought the pro3s+ because of your video last year, It still works well! Thank you

What is the most economical option that will allow you to view a gm vehicles mileage?
Any of the mid-level scan tools I show here will have that function. Are you concerned that someone tampered with milage?

Yup!
LAUNCH CRP909X works great on mercedes-benz e-class e220d 2016 dpf resets vip one the nox resets and loads more
Launch is REALLY good with euro and asian cars for sure.
Which OBD 2 scanner can handle air suspension calibration/reset for Mercedes?
The Launch X431 series will.
They need to start making oscilloscopes maybe some version of the snap on vantage pro
That's about the only missing. A scope module would be great!
Question on the subscription aspect of scan tools, is that for the unit to function OR to have the latest database to work from?
The subscription is simply for updates. Once it expires the tool will still work fine, it just can't be updated to work on newer cars.
@@FarpointRestorationsAndRepairs THANKS so much, huge help there! I was worried it would brick the tool.

The OTC Genisys does! Look for a used one on eBay.
Have you checked out any of the Otofix scan tools that are powered by Autel?
I have not. I'll check them out!
I own the Otofix D1 proS and otofix im1. Can confirm they are legit!!
@FarpointRestorationsAndRepairs Thanks so much for the reply.
Quick question Eric, I need to replace a front relay fuse box which it also a bcm on a 2007 Jaguar to cure the dreaded “Smart Key Not Found”. I’m replacing it with a used one and have to match the VIN….Do you think the Launch x431 would have that special function?
You can't install a used one. Only a new BCM will marry to the car. Then it can be programmed to take the key code.
@@FarpointRestorationsAndRepairs This BCM is not the immobilizer unit, it just controls the antennas for the wireless feature….the car turns on and works properly with both keys physically on the slot designed for when the smart key battery dies. After doing some research people usually go 2 routes…..1-Sending the BCM to repair the corrupted software inside or 2-Replacing it with a used unit and matching it to the car using Jaguar SDD software which I don’t have available hence my question if this scanner would have this special function.
Thank you

The car works "Perfectly" is your key word that there are issues.
can any of these from video code for example module on electric cars like ioniq 5 or kia or volkswagen id3 ? when i say code i mean write vin number to new module when replacing it
See my other comment. I just don't know as I haven't run into that issue here.

You may need to seek a OEM solution if you need programming ability.

Your pro 3s is that the “globally” sold launch like you would purchase from Amazon? If so I was wondering if you experienced any of the rumors I hear about the Amazon launchs like poor customer support, glitchs, software update issues? Thanks
Yes it's the Global edition from Kingbolen. Don't believe these mysterious issues that they have. It's a paid scam from Launch USA to convince you to pay 3X for the same tool. Owned my Pro 3S+ for 5 years and never had an issue. Renewals are less too!

I sent mine back. Features are not for all vehicles even though they may be listed. Also, the app had a hard time initializing at first, and random app freezing.
Either way, for ADAS, you need to purchase the rigging for the calibration.
ADAS needs a lot more than just the software to preform. Do you have the wall chart and other items?

Tell me which scan tool that will work on a Ram 2020+. I can't find one.
The Launch X431 series will.
Hi what do you think of the foxwell nt1009
The 809 is nice, I haven't messed with the 1009.
For any of these do you need a monthly subscription...?
Nope
Which j box do you recommend for factory diagnostics you showed on the computer?
I actually use 3 of them right now. None are all that fancy. Two of them are generic USB type obd-2 connectors. One for Toyota and one for VW. The third I use with Volvo is the usb driven DICE unit.
Ive seen the super expensive oem ones as well as the drewtech or even the “pass through” options on the more expensive scan tools. I’ve also seen the ebay or amazon no name brands, how do I tell if the unknown brand on amazon will work and hopefully not damage the car?
My XTool is 3 years free upgrades
3 years is a pretty good offer.
How about the VDIAGTOO Bidrectional VD70?
I made a video on that tool some time back. It's a solid entry.
have you tried the ancel ds600 or ds700? that looks cheaper than most of the brands
I have a DS700 on the way for testing.

I am not familiar with that one- Sorry, maybe I can make a video on one if I can get my hands on them
@ thank you 🙏
Can i use one of these on a 2011 renault megane or do i need to use a CLIP (renault) diagnostic tool? I bought a OBD2 device but wasnt sure if i plugged this in it would cause more issues
It should work fine!
@@FarpointRestorationsAndRepairs brilliant thank you.
I use the Thinkscan SR6 and works great on both our Cars 2013Renault and a 2018 Mazda. Has five free maintenance/ service features added.
What about the Topdon phoenix lite 2
Haven't tired it yet.
I have one question. Will the launch flash a body control module for a super duty ford diesel? Please help!
Some of them can marry a new module.
How does it compare with your latest D1lite?
What scanner? This video shows at least a dozen from different makers.
Is launch crp 919x bt okay to do coding and unlocking functions? or should i go with pros elite?
You'll want the Pro Elite for that.
