Once i did, all was good. It works well on GM vehicles and when i need more horsepower i use the VCX Nano with GDS2. Lastly in order to use the Launch on GM when using it in Bi directional mode such as special tests, the Vehicle needs to be in service mode otherwise you will get no reading from the scan tool. Hi I have a 2021 Acura TLX and my car needs a Telematics control unit and a new transmission. Which one do you recommend that can program both especially the telematics with the vin of the car. I have the small orange one but that one only helps fixes lights on the dash.
I’m an intermediate diyer but a beginner with scan tools. I’m looking for a wireless bi-directional scanner under $500 with lifetime updates that will allow me to program keys and program VINs and run actuator tests. Any recommendations?
I think it a 8 inch and it should work on really new vehicles. The newest vehicle I used it on was a 2020. Most people don’t work on 2024, 2023, 2022 vehicles as they are under warranty.
I haven’t tried with this scan on a dodge but I did use this th-cam.com/video/7UmNijyj0c0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=yg3O2MPM2VL4rnsd On a 2014 Dodge grand caravan. The 2018 is the last year of serviceable dodge vehicles as far that you will need fca autoauth.
It's so confusing to know which models from Launch do what. There's like a couple dozen versions all for sale at once in 2024. Trying to find info on a CRP 919C that is just released, but the ad does not specify "X431" anywhere.

Hey there.Nice thing to do,this review of the launch tool.Very usefull. Can i use this tool to find out why a MX5 Nb from 2001 cranks but doesn t start?
It can help be part of the solution, but scan tools cannot pin the exact cause unless you know what you are looking for. With a crank no start it’s a process of elimination. Spark Fuel Compression are major and then you need to confirm the vehicle sensors are being read and detect. Other factor, security systems, slow crank. Timing, vehicle history I first put it load tester, test the battery, then I start checking for fuel ( easy, just spray starting fluid into into after the mass air flow sensor) I check for spark( they sell spark plug test lights for $5) And last I check for compression. Start with the battery, see link in short th-cam.com/video/VeNT94t1hIU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Osmk2pOvZH-R6Umd Just because it cranks doesn’t mean anything, Good luck and keep me posted.
I have checked spark,it s there, sensors are good both cam and crankshaft, fuel pump makes noise, but i don t get fuel in the injector ramp or rail.Relays tick when put to the battery.Car worked flawlessly till 3 weeks ago, when it didn t start on the first key in the morning, but at the second key went on ok.A week later after this symptom occured,no start at all.

Curious what is the highest rated one you've done? I've been looking for the best features and good value. Getting into these fancy ones prices go from reasonable to you must be kidding lol.
For diy pro I would recommend having two to three great scan tools, one of them being Autel th-cam.com/video/uOc2TMdEQiQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=R-NnYP22B3Yhv6XR or Otofix ( same brand) and one Xtool th-cam.com/video/nTninTEbdYA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=JYznv-jfhCRHfs8m And the last one being a backup but should have no yearly fees and the fees can really add up th-cam.com/video/mf5zDmiEpe8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=IyM4O6kinUqxeCRu If you working on a just one make of vehicle a laptop and specialized software would be a better choice than a scan tool.
Good question and honestly I’ve never tried. I would guess no for both but to be sure I would email them your vin and ask. The governor is often connected to your tire speed rating so if you are successful please don’t forget to change your tires to z rated tires. Good luck 🍀
I like the d7s th-cam.com/video/QKNp2bFYcVI/w-d-xo.htmlsi=f8ExiPKEeDbcD_Y6 but if you have a fca vehicle that is 2018 and newer i would get the launch with the bypass cables. If you don’t own a fca vehicle vehicle the d7s d7w are amazing

@@RANDOMFIX That is what I did and Launch USA told me that model you are reviewing is not intended for the USA Market and that it may not work well with USA cars. They also told me that they will not be able to repair it and there will be no warranty, that I would have to contact the person that sold it to me. It seems that whoever is selling this model and brand in Amazon is not an authorized reseller and the units are for other markets as is not a Launch USA product. They also told me that they don't sell their scanners though Amazon or Ebay, then referred me to their USA Dealers to purchase or from their FrontStore. The one selling this at Amazon is Kingbolen, which is not Launch USA. I suggest you contact Launch USA and ask about that model number you purchased and get surprised by their response as I got, I ask as a pre purchase question. I would not use any Launch scanner purchased from Amazon after the information I got.
Yes, the model number and brand is the launch x431 pro elite. As far as the best I would say it really depends on what your are you using it for and if it’s your home or business. For home diy and no yearly fees check out this scan tool th-cam.com/video/mf5zDmiEpe8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=nXXh5xCui4FC4IGP
Yes, it can make keys but not all keys. It’s pretty easy and here is a video I recorded just to show how easy it is. th-cam.com/video/eO6eAkUjwHg/w-d-xo.htmlsi=vPuL-sz2fLJFhP-4 Takes less than 5 minutes per key.
@@RANDOMFIX Oh thank you. I was going to send it back to Amazon unopened. Then, find a honest key maker. I am still amazed at the Gaul of the Ford engineers: You can make a new key but you need 2 working keys. It never stops!
It depends on the vehicle. Like I show in the videos it’s a hit or miss with scan tools when it comes to keys unless you a scan tool that meant just for keys as then you will have more compatibility. I have more success with basic Toyota and Dodge immobilizer keys.
@_Rustam_ why? to make a key for my own vehicle. We don’t more need overlays and more organizations or agencies. For professional locksmith, yes this great. But these fees are never ending and therefore the cost of everything is marked up. The scan tools that have used never asked for any sort of membership or validation. Just my thoughts.
@@RANDOMFIX in my launcher there was information that the test period will last until the end of December 2024. From 2025, any action with the immobilizer will require a NATSF account
$199 Is that you gotta pay it each yr the199 use it or not or in 5 yrs pay 199 and get the other 4 yrs included? as low use owners dont need constant updates .
Personally I don’t renew myself when the 2 years expires as the tool is stated to work but no need to updates will downloadable at that time. Yeah it’s 199 after the 2 years is up.
Bi directional scan tools can send a command to vehicle to activate a certain component instead of just reading information from the vehicle. This really helps on modern vehicles as you can test which part is possibly bad without having to rip apart the vehicle to test the part.
Is this the North American version or European. My understanding is if it's not the North American version you cannot update through Launch USA. Lauch USA has a list of serial numbers and if yours isn't on the list it needs to be dealt with in China and that goes for warranty issues also. Please correct me If I am wrong. I got this info from Launchs website in Canada.
Very well true I contacted Launch USA with questions about the scanner and my cars and they informed me that they do not sell any scanner on Ebay or at Amazon. They also told me that the scanner will never work as intended because they are not made for the USA market, they pointed to their Products page and their Storefront page. So I almost bought one, as they told me that there will be no warranty or updates, that whoever I bought from will be my contact point to obtain support and whoever is selling them or distributing them at Amazon is not an authorized USA dealer or distributor. They are buying them overseas and reseling them on Amazon. I have the email from Launch USA to prove it. I did not buy the scanner.
You haven't reviewed many Launch products, I can tell by the video. I was duped by a salesman to buy x431 turbo. "Oh, bidirectional(yes), it'll program keys(NOPE! Not with out buying more components), doesn't cost much to keep up to date" < This last part is hilarious. As I also don't know where you are getting your $199 figure from. Because if you would dive a little deeper in the "mall" tab. You would see, depending on manufacturer, it can cost between $100 to $250 for individual manufacturer updates, each year. Or just under $600 for complete updates, each year. This is all after the initial 2 years.
For basic keys what else do you need to purchase. Who duped to by the x431 turbo? I score the scan tools based what’s available on the market as of the time. I got the $199 renewal cost from the vendor, is that between $99 to $250? If you don’t like your scan tool why don’t you return it?
@@RANDOMFIX did you not read my comment. Your $199 comment is misleading. $199 will NOT, update the "whole" of the updates. So it is no good for shops that work on multiple manufacturers. And skipped right over the part, where I mentioned one has to buy more equipment to use all functions of a launch scanner. Including programming keys, TPMS, etc. It is not a inexpensive scanner in the long run. Return it????? I only found out after purchasing the unit, and using for 2 years. That it is stupid expensive for a 1 man shop, like myself. To pay $600 a year for complete updates and the peripherals to do keys and tpms.
Yes, you can but each vehicle is different so email the vin to vendor and ask for a list of supported features. For example, It works on my dodge but not my Toyota.
I think It states it can code but I haven’t tried it. Thank god I have not needed to do it yet. I don’t want to try it for fun, unnecessarily, or for youtube until that day comes.
I think the x431 PAD V series are the only ones that can actually 'program' ecm's. You can 'code' parameter changes, but not actually change or update ecm software.
PLEASE show text screens LONGER. They flash so fast we don’t have time to read them with the shadowed fonts with lines going everywhere. Otherwise, good info.
@@PRGDR I have the D7W, most of the special functions dont work in the USA for many brands. Most updates are for brands not sold in the usa. Beware. Should not have wasted my $$.
Good day mate. I'm looking to buy a used car in Europe. The problem is that most cars there have fake mileage. I don't know which car yet. If you can tell me which scanner ( which can I buy In Australia ) , can read the right mileage from the largest number of the cars. Thanks.
I hear you this a problem everywhere. Beside fake mileage there is also mileage blockers that can purchased for $300 that would even for high line vehicles. You will have to do lots of work including check the hours of the vehicle which can be found on stereo modules. As a car dealer I can spot these vehicles pretty quickly. Here is a short video th-cam.com/video/VDtXIRl2JVc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=SD29gSZ2bngK4mWB In America we use carfax or auto checkwith a scan tool and a visual to verify the mileage. We also look for states like Utah where this sort activity is common.
Most cars have fake mileage. What nonsense. Mileage records are easily checked using a service like car vertical. Governments in Europe all have mandatory safety checks either annually or bi annually. It’s easy to track the mileage & look for inconsistency. In the UK the annual MOT test data is a public record on the government’s own website. You can easily see how well a vehicle has been maintained by how many faults are logged on the test.
I am not too sure if Europe but the more expensive the vehicle the more likely the miles can be stopped or even rolled back. Look up mileage blockers and you will be surprised.
Yes, it can read actual mileage but it’s tricky as you need find in live data and then the actual mileage is recorded in different modules. The best scan tool for odometer fraud detection is this th-cam.com/video/uOc2TMdEQiQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=TsyMvo6MRwGnmC64
I want a universal usb link and software that will allow you to tune or change anything that any computer on the car does. But ya know, paywalls and proprietary equipment, plus lazyness, stops that from happening
Yeah, the dodge motors allow for phaser cleaning. There a total of four, 2 for the intake and 2 for the exhaust. This is not only scan tool that allows for but it’s there.

My Launch was working until an "update" crashed the system. Now the screen is frozen. The US branch says they don't support their products bought from Amazon. The Chinese phone number doesn't work. The Launch does not even have a reset hole like cheap devices have. There is no support or help available. So a Launch is a waste of your money.
@@RANDOMFIX It is beyond the 30-day return policy of Amazon. So there is no real warranty. The Launch will be replaced by a Innova scanner because it is a U.S. company based in California with a real phone number and email address. Also, I have found Innova equipment to be well-made.
@malcolmmarzo2461 it doesn’t matter if Amazon sold it and it was listed that it had a 1 year warranty or whatever was listed is what you will ask Amazon to honor. This happens to a lot. Even one a $1000 plus scooter and I always get my money back. If Amazon allows them to post information about the warranty then they should honor the post. If Amazon ask you to do any more work just refuse and tell it’s their problem. I have had an incident where it took me 6 plus phone calls but I finally got my money back. Amazon profited and let burden the expense as well.

Will it work on a 2001 Excursion V10?
I appreciate you taking the time to review this scan tool. What is the screen size of the tool and what is the newest vehicle it will work on?
I think it a 8 inch and it should work on really new vehicles. The newest vehicle I used it on was a 2020.
Most people don’t work on 2024, 2023, 2022 vehicles as they are under warranty.
can you program a 2018 Ram 1500 key fob with one of these?
I haven’t tried with this scan on a dodge but I did use this th-cam.com/video/7UmNijyj0c0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=yg3O2MPM2VL4rnsd
On a 2014 Dodge grand caravan. The 2018 is the last year of serviceable dodge vehicles as far that you will need fca autoauth.
Can you change the tire size for correcting the speedo
Yes, you can. But the option is not available for every vehicle.
It's so confusing to know which models from Launch do what. There's like a couple dozen versions all for sale at once in 2024. Trying to find info on a CRP 919C that is just released, but the ad does not specify "X431" anywhere.
Yeah there is a lot of naming confusion with Launch even with x431 as there is a pro, pro elite, etc. they should just call it x432 or x433 instead.
Is there any on it for odometer calibration
This is best odometer calibration th-cam.com/video/mf5zDmiEpe8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=x06Z8vjOWmVPucTm but it limited to adjust to adjust 10k km but you if can do it 8 times which is equal to 80k km. This one has unlimited km adjustments th-cam.com/video/VVfRnyKq8Cs/w-d-xo.htmlsi=GH8G8ErO5YMWvgEU but is not very accurate. The odometer is stored in km and converted to miles.
This does not work on all vehicles.
Spark
Fuel
Compression
are major and then you need to confirm the vehicle sensors are being read and detect. Other factor, security systems, slow crank. Timing, vehicle history
I first put it load tester, test the battery, then I start checking for fuel ( easy, just spray starting fluid into into after the mass air flow sensor)
I check for spark( they sell spark plug test lights for $5)
And last I check for compression.
Start with the battery, see link in short th-cam.com/video/VeNT94t1hIU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Osmk2pOvZH-R6Umd
Just because it cranks doesn’t mean anything, Good luck and keep me posted.
I did the spray test and she started instantly.
@razvanlupu7507 so now check for fuel pressure. It’s a process.

I have a Prius and can mention record in upcoming reviews.

I reviewed their earlier products and just feel the quality is not there yet. Look something like instead th-cam.com/video/mf5zDmiEpe8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=jbWGMuy2jCkFaZX5 lifetime updates

Curious what is the highest rated one you've done? I've been looking for the best features and good value. Getting into these fancy ones prices go from reasonable to you must be kidding lol.
*Do you have a video where you mention the scanner you believe is best for a DIY PRO?*
For diy pro I would recommend having two to three great scan tools, one of them being Autel th-cam.com/video/uOc2TMdEQiQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=R-NnYP22B3Yhv6XR or Otofix ( same brand) and one Xtool th-cam.com/video/nTninTEbdYA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=JYznv-jfhCRHfs8m
And the last one being a backup but should have no yearly fees and the fees can really add up th-cam.com/video/mf5zDmiEpe8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=IyM4O6kinUqxeCRu
If you working on a just one make of vehicle a laptop and specialized software would be a better choice than a scan tool.

I don’t see why not but to be extra sure email your vin to vendor and ask for a list of supported features.
Can it change the governor on a car or a speed control or a rev limiter?
Good question and honestly I’ve never tried. I would guess no for both but to be sure I would email them your vin and ask. The governor is often connected to your tire speed rating so if you are successful please don’t forget to change your tires to z rated tires.

Yes, the model number and brand is the launch x431 pro elite. As far as the best I would say it really depends on what your are you using it for and if it’s your home or business.

Yea, either through live data or some makes have a misfire count for each cylinder.
My question is will it program a push 2 start key. The locksmith are bandits. And I think they taught the scan industry the bandit trade.
Yes, it can make keys but not all keys. It’s pretty easy and here is a video I recorded just to show how easy it is. th-cam.com/video/eO6eAkUjwHg/w-d-xo.htmlsi=vPuL-sz2fLJFhP-4

I have x431 pro elite V and I want to program keys. Advise what to take?
It depends on the vehicle. Like I show in the videos it’s a hit or miss with scan tools when it comes to keys unless you a scan tool that meant just for keys as then you will have more compatibility. I have more success with basic Toyota and Dodge immobilizer keys.
@RANDOMFIX bat you have the NATSF licence?
@_Rustam_ why? to make a key for my own vehicle. We don’t more need overlays and more organizations or agencies. For professional locksmith, yes this great. But these fees are never ending and therefore the cost of everything is marked up.

Just my thoughts.

Hey thanks Great tool
You're welcome!😉
what is bidirectional support?
Bi directional scan tools can send a command to vehicle to activate a certain component instead of just reading information from the vehicle. This really helps on modern vehicles as you can test which part is possibly bad without having to rip apart the vehicle to test the part.
@RANDOMFIX perfect answer and thanks for responding!
Glad to help

Here is a short video th-cam.com/video/VDtXIRl2JVc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=SD29gSZ2bngK4mWB
In America we use carfax or auto checkwith a scan tool and a visual to verify the mileage.
All I want for Christmas is a snap on triton ! 😂
lol 😂 at 10 times the price. Maybe for professional use I would consider it but $6k is a of dough.
Can it read the actual mileage the car has driven. Not necessarily what the odo says (used car scams).

The Launch does not even have a reset hole like cheap devices have. There is no support or help available. So a Launch is a waste of your money.
Call Amazon and demand a refund. Don take no for answer. Have Amazon enforce the warranty
