Vishy is a legend of chess. To be able to stay on top for decades with ever growing competition is just goes to show how much he’s into chess. Aside from being one of the greatest chess players he is very wise and humble.
Vishy's play is so fun to watch because it feels like he sets up an attack on instinct, and when it materializes, finishes it with cold, surgical, engine-like precision

Yeah back then there wasn't a formal WCC that you had to defend every few years. It was basically the wild west compared to now with the candidates tournament leading into the wcc.
Lasker only won 5 matches I think, he just held the title for 27 years largely unchallenged. Kasparov's numbers are weird due to the split championship. He has 3 victories and 1 tie to successfully defend his title against Karpov. He won against Short and Anand during the split (I thought he had a 7th in there but maybe I'm thinking about his aborted match v Karpov so it would only be 6 wins/defends). Anand also has weird numbers due to the split with 1 Fide title and 4 undisputed titles Magnus has 5 championships.
I am amazed that Kasparov has the gall to appear on the same stage as Anand after how he has behaved. In the 1995 world championship, Anand took the lead in game 9. In game 10, every time Kasparov made a move, he got up to go to the bathroom and slammed the door behind him so hard the room shook. The young and mild mannered Anand did not complain to the arbiter, who also did not act. Bullying destroys lives, and bullied children suffer lifelong low self esteem. How can Kasparov have any right to any self-respect after such behavior?

its true, he doesnt play means nobody know the current style he play. its common situation when elite rating player lose to "new kid", as soon they play often, the elite knows how to deal with the "new kid". playing often in the tournament exhaust your mind & energy, also expose your playing strategy to everyone.
I don't understand why Rapport doesn't just go for the immediate pawn capture. Always trying to go for activity first and letting Anand consolidate with his impressive defensive play. Just capture already and let's see what goes on from there.
It's not only Rapport, many GMs prefer piece activity over capturing a pawn. From what I can tell, engines often play like that too. Although it seems it was a poor decision in this game (Rapport was low on time after all).
