Magnus likes these short formats because he can play these unusual moves which I think bring novelty to the chess which holds for him not many secrets anymore.
It's quite fascinating to watch Carlsen play. I mean, he seems to deliberately make suboptimal moves, almost as if he affords his opponents a head start, having an air of confidence that suggests he's simply seeking a bit of a challenge. It's like Usain Bolt allowing his opponents a 20m start, then sprinting past them. Looks like an absolute mockery these last Magnus games, he's on another level. The GOAT
@@somebody700 I'm not too sure I entirely agree with you; I don't think it's about calculations with Magnus, I think it's more about understanding any given position. I believe he's better than anybody else in the history of the game at that aspect.
i am a 1500 rated player and i saw that move in less than 3 seconds with the idea that i could push the pawn. I don't even solve a lot of puzzles. literally shook myself with that 💀
@@moistolive congrats on finding that , but the point to take away from here is finding incredibly hard move is great but to keep doing it again and again for more than a decade against the best players around is what makes Magnus who he is, the GOAT.
I have long resisted calling Magnus the GOAT. But his play in short time formats is incredible, and it appears as though he has somehow transported himself to some new dimension of playing.
What variables would you consider to assess the GOAT? There are so many that it would be pointless to argue about them. I mean, who's the strongest ever? Magnus, no doubt. Who's achieved the most? Probably GK. Who had the most talent? You name it. To me, it's more about contribution to the sport, which is timeless, so, in that respect, the goat is arguably Fischer. However, we can spend and eternity discussing this and never come to an agreement.
That really is something, winning as Black from 3 tempi down against Nepo, who did not blunder. Sometimes it almost looks like chess is just not a sufficiently challenging game for Magnus. All clichés aside, he really is that good.
No this is not even premium Magnus, his soul is not even in the game, in this matches again Ian, Magnus was mouse slip, forgot about his time left, and last he forgot that the night can capture his queen, botez gambit accepted. Magnus was not focus at all, it seems he just play the game because he has to. His face was so relieved when the matches ended even though the gap score is so big. He clearly not in the mood to play.
"Your Majesty, I am going to move you to E5 in order to take the castle." "What?! You're moving me to the front lines?" "You're going to be bait." "B-but you can't do that! I'm the king! This is blasphemy! This is madness!" "This is chess."
Incredible! Magnus just wonders his King into a position where it becomes the bait! Nerves of steel! But, with that siad, it's not uncommon for him either! Lol!
That Queen-move was so good. Magnus must have seen that a good deal ahead of time. It's so subtle, it doesn't even look like an attack or a defense at first glance, but it actually does both. Still the greatest in the world bar none.
0:50 How is it possible to return the knight? Not only in general theory it's a bad thing to do reversing your move, BUT it actually makes the black miss a move right from the start...
On the matchday, I suddenly wake up at night and received the notification of this game. I came to watch and somehow got three key moments of it. One was the game that Carlsen used the pinned pawn to capture the on h3, push one pawn to discover the double attack on the rook and the knight. Second one was the game where two of them have both bishop, the machine calculate the game as completely draw but Carlsen still went for a checkmate, forcing Nepom to make a pawn push and then Carlsen went for perpeptual. And the third one was this. Both GM commentators were looking for a draw and suddenly Carlsen played Qb6 and the commentators were like "Oooooooooooh". Incredible plays by Carlsen.
This guy is unbelievable. He can afford to take the piss out of anybody across the chessboard and get away with it. Definitely the strongest player I've ever seen by the proverbial country mile. I don't really like his current personality but, boy, I can only marvel at his ability in chess. Genius!

This is why faster time format is the best to show the true power of players since on classical every players have the same benefits to memorize engines lines which is boring, Magnus understanding on chess is just way above the other players that even he beat ian (twice wc contender) effortlessly.. damn crazy level of chess
It is beautiful to look at Magnus play. But this move with the queen to b6 (it is really great to find it) is not so far away for many players. The first move to think of is c5 so one are able to play d4 when Se6 is played. The problem is that your queen will hang when Se6 is played and you will end up loosing material. Qb6 do the same as as c5 give you the opportunity yo play d4 and at the same time it moves your queen away from it dangerous place at d8.
4:05 This is why you are amature. Saying it does look like you can play it while it is just totally losing. It does not look like you can play that for even a bit advanced players
