This was a great help and thank you for passing the information along, sorry to hear you discovered the pole mount sucks "the hard way" but you've saved me and probably many others from the same fallacy. Hopefully you'll be repaid in positive karma (if you believe in that like I do). Crazy how Starlink skimped on the pole mount thought process, that recess should be at least 4 times as deep!

Just completed the wall mount to Camco flag pole setup as described here. I can confirm it’s quite sturdy. In addition to the foil tape (3 wraps around), I did drill out to put a bolt through the pole and mount. Thanks for the video and tips!

Brian....First of all this is brilliant! I am doing pole mount at the house and hunted everywhere for a worthy pole. I never considered a flag pole...plus it telescopes which should help with all the trees we have!! I can't figure out if this is the high performance or not. I cannot figure out how to set it up. Starlink said I had to "drill holes"! Why would I need to drill holes, when the supposed holder already has bolts and holes. It's so confusing. Too bad we can't reach out to you to walk us through this. Thanks for the great video!!

I received my new Starlink Gen 3 today with a brand new pole mount. I was expecting the shallow pole mount I kept seeing on TH-cam. But to my surprise they have fixed the pole mount. It's about 2+ inches deep and has 2 set screws. I love it. Now I don't have to buy a 3rd party mount.

Since Gen 3 has to be manually positioned, how much manual repositioning is involved if the unit is pole mounted on a RV ladder in a fairly windy environment?
I’m debating buying a new Gen 2 satellite dish instead of a Gen 3 unit.

    • @BrianWatersOutdoors
      @BrianWatersOutdoors  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

The mount itself on the Starlink puts the dish at the right angle when you raise it up. All I have to do is twist the pole to point it in the right direction and then tighten down the pole in the bumper mount I have. Have never had any issues with it getting out of alignment👍🏻

I have a gen2 dish I bought for camping to replace my portable weboost setup. The pole mount on the gen2 works great, it has 3 screws to push up against the pole. I use an Amazon basics speaker mount tripod as my dish holder as it’s portable and I can use it anywhere. Only used it twice, don’t really see a need to upgrade to gen3.

This is REALLY COOL, many thanks for sharing your idea. I am curious: is the wall mount 'mast' 1.5" diameter at its thicker point ( above your alu tape?) just like the old standard actuated dish arms were? it looks like it. If so, I can buy this and use it in my current fishing rod holder on my boat. Please let me know . Also curious about the length of that short mast in the wall mount kit, to know how deep it would go in my rod holder. Many thanks

Obviously Starlink wants you to drill a complete hole in the pole - hence why there's a V on the opposite side of the bolt hole. It's a recess for the bolt to snug up after going through the entire pole. It's not a terrible design - people just aren't smart enough to use a perfectly designed accessory correctly. 🤦‍♂

    • @BrianWatersOutdoors

I have similar, almost, concern. I want to use the wall mount or possibly a different 3rd party all mount. but my concern is the starlink pipe adapter. so I think thinking of using the starling wall mount for that solid connection from dish to power. then try and find an alternative universal pipe adapter to create essentially a longer mast extension than what comes with the starling wall mount. In your case you just took the mask extension into the campco. I want to possible cut the extension, and insert a pipe to create a longer mast extension. Think that might work ?

Still be pretty thin to hold a dish in high winds.

I'm an installer who just went to a customers house and looked at the Gen 3 and was shocked at how cheap and flimsy it was. SL just thinks people will set it outside in the yard with an edge sitting in the dirt and it won't be thrashed by the elements, the dog, the kids? I told them "Sorry, I can't roof mount this. You'll need to order SL's accessory mount". Thanks a lot Elon and your crap engineering team.

I’ll use your link. You should be comped! What’s the inner diameter of the Camco pole? It’s not mentioned on Amazon. And yes…THE STARLINK PIPE ADAPTER IS CRAP! You just saved me from ordering one. Starlink “Rocket Scientists” outsourced accessories obviously

I’m not sure, sorry. I’d check but the pole is stored in my RV which is in storage

Why not just use the original parts but drill a hole in the existing pipe (or flagpole) and screw the original bolt through the newly drilled hole?

    Hi Brian-
I just bought the Gen 3… brand new Starlink user.
We have a rural business. I want to buy some sort of flagpole set up that I can put in the ground permanently.
I was watching the video and appreciate the advice on the wall mount.
Can you provide links for the materials that you bought?
My other question on this might seem silly - does the flagpole nest and extend? The reason I’m asking is that can you retract the flagpole so that it’s short enough to put the Starlink on top and then extend it to however many feet tall you want it to be?
Our plan is not to have the Starlink out all the time because there has been theft in the area. I assumed it will lock it up and when we arrive at the workspace in the morning, we will put the Sterling on top of the flag both the day and then put it back away. So I was just wondering , without needing a ladder if there was an easier way to to adjust the height of the flagpole for putting the Starlink on

The flagpole I bought does “extend” so you can raise it up after you install the Starlink. I’ll put a link in this vid description for the flagpole I bought. I can’t send a link for the Starlink wall mount, but you can log into your account in Starlink and go to the shop and find the wall mount in there. Hope that helped.

You are so right. That first mount is moronic, and it is hard to believe an engineer designed it and even worse it was approved. Must be the engineer rejects from SpaceEx.

i think they(Starlink) put female 1/4 screw underneath for convenience mounting in camera tripod.

No kidding I have the same thing and am blown away at the poor design of this adapter, this thing wouldn’t hold up under windy conditions

It is now. Took enough complaining from their customers the original design was terrible.
