Nice video. I would only add that the loop you made at the bottom of the exterior cable rub is very important. The cable should always enter the structure from a lower elevation. Otherwise water will run down the cable and into the structure. If you are running the cable through the soffit or a gable vent and don't have that service dip, you will end up with water in the attic.
I love my starlink and the mount set.. I moved out of the city into the country. I have a lot of acres and acres around me in rural area. No one could give me more than 100 mbps. When I was use to 1GB. Starlink saved us with sometimes running as fast as 350 mbps 🙌🏾🙏🏿
Hello, I work for a construction company in Japan with an installation record of over 120 Starlink units (about one every three days). Since the antenna kits and mounts discussed in this video are not yet available in Japan, this has been very informative for us. However, I would like to point out that using lag bolts (coach bolts) for mounting on the roof fascia alone may not be safe due to insufficient material thickness. It is recommended to secure them in areas with more substantial backing where the bolts can anchor deeply. Also, I strongly recommend wearing a helmet when working on ladders for safety. Regarding the original mounts, while they may seem less reliable, I am curious how well they would hold up against the typhoons that are common in Japan during the fall, which bring winds of up to 80 km/h (22.2 m/s). From my perspective, it is questionable whether they would withstand such conditions.
I'm in a very windy area in Alaska. We routinely get hurricane force winds in the winter. I'm a little concerned that the cold will make the plastic brittle and the wind will rip the plastic apart. Just placed my order yesterday and now I'm wondering if I need to build a mast instead and do a pole mount.
Hello, I have the same question about Tifton, but you say one every three days is installed in Japan. What type of installation is used in Japan?. Thank you
@@penelopeba Hello, thank you for your question. We have been involved in installation work for over 30 years, and since establishing our current company 13 years ago, we have primarily focused on TV antenna installations. Although Starlink dishes are different from TV antennas, we have successfully applied our expertise and materials from those installations to ensure safe and durable setups. For example, while adjustable mounts that are easily found on Amazon may seem convenient, we tested some of these a few years ago for TV antenna installations and found durability issues, so we no longer use them. Instead, we use side bases and highly corrosion-resistant masts, commonly used for TV antennas (including satellite dishes), for our installations. Depending on the building structure, we typically use stainless steel screws of 65mm or longer, and we fill the screw holes with modified silicone to ensure waterproofing. To date, we have installed tens of thousands of TV antennas and more than 150 Starlink units, and there have been no cases of collapse due to typhoons or other extreme weather in Japan. (We did have one case where a flying object damaged a BS satellite dish, but there were no major issues.) You can check out some of our installation case studies here, where we explain the details for users. It might be helpful for reference: 9696.co.jp/case-category/starlink/ Additionally, we have confirmed with Starlink’s official support that while their equipment is rated to withstand strong winds, they cannot guarantee performance beyond their specifications. They recommend removing or reinforcing the dish in case of extreme conditions like typhoons. Furthermore, in Japan, Starlink cables are treated similarly to electrical cables, and national certification as an electrician, along with the appropriate company license, is required for installations. Please keep this in mind.
Thank you for this superb video. One question: in the “align” chapter you say “I went ahead and plugged my dish in and allowed it 15 minutes to boot up” - does that mean you already had installed the cable to the router inside?
Correct. I already had the cable run from other reviews. I did a tutorial on routing the cable if you want to see how that is done: th-cam.com/video/046arFRpDig/w-d-xo.html
awesome video! just got my Starlink and this was great!. love you have chapters, very detailed. now to go see what other videos you have. question? do you know if i move to another country would i be able to use my Starlink? i would assume i would and just need to but a new power cable for it.
If you have the Mobile plan you can travel within your own continent with Starlink. But for home internet, you would have to create a new Starlink account for the new country. You will be able to transfer the equipment from your old account to the new one. You have to do this because Starlink doesn't have the ability to change the country on your account.
Thanks for the video. My only complaint is that I bet with a couple windy days you’re going to be back on that ladder realigning that dish. That adjustment knob allows way too much play and I don’t see that dish staying put under inclement weather conditions. I wish it had detents drilled in or something a little more secure.
Had satellite that was slow and always down. Last time it went down, they said ten days before tech would be there. That was the last straw. Got Starlink with $200 off in my area. Shocked at how well it works, excellent speed. The only regret is that I spent so long suffering with my satellite service.
Great video. Have a couple questions. What about when it's time to install new roof shingles? How easy/difficult would it be to take the antenna down? Is the mast made out of metal as well or is it plastic? The adjustment screw seems a little flimsy. How well does it secure the antenna? Would it stay secure in high winds? Thanks
I have the Gen2 wall mount here in NE Idaho...Its put up with 60mph winds, rain and snow...Never budged... When will we be able to order the Gen3 package???
Great video, but I have a question. I live in an area where I get two or three feet of snow on the roof that will obstruct the dishy’s view if the sky. Can the vertical support tube be extended so that is is higher above the roof?
I had trouble pulling kickstand out as well. I used 2 butter knives to gently elevate the stand lateral to clips then gently lifted and pulled out. Hope this helps.
Great video, thank you! I just ordered mine for my cabin. Should i expect the Gen3? I ask because i recently rec'd my Business/High performance starlink for business and i rec'd the Gen2 rather than Gen3. BTW, the High Performance is not near as easy to mount and assemble. Also if you rec'v the Gen2 high performance and wish to connect to a network you need an ethernet adapter. Gen3 high performance router includes onboard ethernet port. Just FYI to anyone who considering the high performance hardware.
If you are in the US, you will get a Gen 3. It's the only version available from Starlink in that market. Australia is the other market offering Gen 3, but customers have a choice for now.
I’d like to mount like this, but somewhat concerned the fascia isn’t thick enough to support? Maybe a short piece of 2x4 screwed into the back to help deep sink the lag bolts?
If your company does custom mounting Solutions, you should do a v-mount backing plate, so it is perfectly centered at the roof line. It's slightly off to the right. Not a big deal but if you want it perfect I would do the back plate.
great video thank you. i have just got my kit deilvered. and my question is, how thick / strong does the facia board need to be to hold the stand and the dish?
The facia board itself isn't providing the support, but rather the rafter behind it. The lag screws are several inches long so they can go past the fascia and hit a structural board.
What is the wind rating of that mounting? That bracket looks cast. Without washers I would expect it will crack at the bolts. The seating does not look deep enough and wind will pull that out of the bracket.
Is the entirety of the mount hollow from the mast right down through the bracket? I want to route the cable straight down and not have it come out of the hole at base of mast. Looks like mast is hollow but unsure of the lower part of bracket. Can the cable be placed through the centre mast through the bracket into the base and then straight back through the wall into the property? 🤔
Lift up on the tab and slide out at the same time. There are two plastic notches holding it in, preventing it from sliding out. The upward pressure releases the tabs.
In the springtime we often get sustained winds of 30-40MPH, with gusts up to 70MPH. How well will this plastic mount standup? Should I get a metal wall mount to put that mast into?
I have found it almost impossible to find the Gen. 3 adapter. I have the mount, just not the mast or adapter that clicks into the back of the antenna. Do you know where they are available? I want to mount it this weekend, if I can get all the parts together. Thanks in advance.
It sounds like you bought one of the Gen 2 wall mounts, which aren't compatible with the Gen 3 dish. You need the "Standard Wall Mount" in this video, which is a Gen 3 accessory. When you visit the Starlink shop, you need to select the Gen 3 dish to view compatible accessories. The Gen 3 Standard Wall Mount comes with the adapter and mast, as shown in the video.
Despite the appearance, the connector system on the Gen 3 is not a standard RJ45 ethernet. There is no latch, so the tab doesn't need to be depressed. Rather than a latch, it depends on the friction created by the waterproofing shroud. Just pull on it firmly. It'll come out.
No, if you need more reach I recommend using an aftermarket J-Mount with the Gen 3 Pipe Adapter. I have a guide on J-Mounts here: www.starlinkhardware.com/guide-to-using-a-j-mount-with-starlink/
Hello, I saw your video and I would also like to order Starlink, but there is one problem. With the initial order it seems to me that Starlink wants to give me the second gen instead of the third one, as I prefer the third gen a lot more due to the conditions where I live. Will Starlink give me the second gen anyway or will it give me a third one instead? As though it looks like the second gen according to the pictures and description.
can be, starlink I ordered came to me 2 generation, from the speed I'm totally satisfied I'm downloading some stuff my brother plays online games and others are also on the Internet and everything goes without problems. The only downside is that it doesn't have a LAN port. It's the 21st century and the router doesn't have a LAN port
@@frantiseklos7283 That's unfortunate with the Gen2. But you can buy an adapter to convert to LAN. It's not needed, as I stream 4K video via WiFi on my smart TV.
Excellent video. Answered a lot of my questions and concerns. I agree that the Wall Mount looks cheap and will probably fail. Appears that the dish still needs to be oriented to the north. We have a gen1 and 50 foot trees to our North so it has never been useful, too much obstruction from the trees.
Do all the mount kits come with the adapter that replaces the kick stand on gen 3 (the long and short mount, the pipe adapter, and the pivot mount do they all come with the “mast the adapter” plastic clip that replaces the kick stand
Only the mounts designed for Gen 3: Standard Wall Mount, Standard Pipe Adapter, Standard Pivot Mount. Long/Short Wall Mounts and other Gen 2 mounts aren't compatible with Gen 3.
The only mount that came with my Gen 3 was the kickstand. I was very disappointed to find this out when I got here. Unfortunately, I can't blame anyone but my husband, because he did the ordering. I'm not completely sure if my husband knew if we were going to need a mounting kit. We still haven't received our standard pipe adapter yet. It's been almost 4 weeks.
I'm not familiar with what kind of mount Airstream is using, but you could adapt just the mast to a similar size mount, assuming you have some kind of bolt or clamp to secure it. I wouldn't think it would be a direct fit, though, unless designed for Gen 3.
I'm on day 3, trying to get answers to mounting by gen 3. Customer support sent me a video of a pivot mount kit, that includes a base and mast for gen 3. The pivot mount I purchased did not include the base or mast that attaches to the gen 3 dish. Starlink's SHOP site does not show one. Do they expect us to setup our Starlink Kit, setting in the yard, to get the support we need. This is the worst support I have ever dealt with! You send them a request, wait a day for an email response that doesn't address the problem. Then, send them another email and wait, how long for a response. With the cost of equipment, the $120 a month for service; this is the support you get!
Starlink hasn't assigned a wind rating, but based on my experience and time with it, it's able to handle moderate winds like 40-50 mph. I've had gusts up to about 60 mph in storms with no issues.
Does Starlink offer a wall mount that will accommodate a wide roof eave? Mine is about 30 inches. The fascia board is partially obscured by the rain gutters, so if I must use the fascia board, there will need to be an additional piece of wood to provide a base for the mounting bracket.
It's survived the winter here so far! The mount itself is secure with the 2 lag screws. I found it nearly impossible to separate the mast from the mount adapter. Despite being plastic, I also trust the mounting adapter plate that snaps into the dish. The wobble isn't confidence inspiring, but from what I can tell so far, doesn't appear to have any affect on performance or stability of the mount.
@@StarlinkHardware thank you. One more question if you don’t mind. About how high up on a 1.25 inch pole can you extent before sway becomes an issue? I’m looking at a forked bracket y shaped and installed about 2 foot below the eave. Then using a fastener near the top of the roof to secure the pole and using two 8 foot poles to get high enough to top the evergreens around our house. I’m pretty sure it will not sway but looking for input. If there’s a better way to get this kind of elevation I’m missing. I’m open. My equipment still hasn’t shipped
Starlink recommends that you don't cover it with anything, but Starlink dishes have been able to function under fiberglass, glass, fabric, etc. Your results will vary based on what type of material you are using. It doesn't really need to be sheltered from anything, though. It's designed for outdoor use.
@@StarlinkHardware We are a rainforest and have hurricanes. I love your product. But because of the shape it's a windsail/wing/kite. We have Willy wahs, wind comes from all directions and blows hard. We don't get much attention because we are rural. I believe an enclosed box structurally reinforced would help us. we had 150 inches of rain this year.
I’m trying to figure out the best type of mount but it seems they all would not do very well in strong winds. We are in hurricane territory and this doesn’t seem sturdy. I was wanting the pole adapter kit but it also seems like it wouldn’t stand up to much.
I live in south Texas (4 miles north of Mexico). We regularly get high winds. That flimsy joint between the mount and mask looks like the Gen 3 Antenna-Dish would turn into a good kite.
Im new to starlink and my satellite arrives tomorrow but im worried that I may have ordered the wrong wall mount. I ordered the short wall mount but nowhere on the box or instructions does it say that its for the Gen 2 or Gen 3 satellite. Any clarification would be appreciated!
The Short Wall Mount is for Gen 2 only. The wall mount that is compatible with Gen 3 is called the "Standard Wall Mount". Starlink's online shop doesn't do a good job of telling you compatibility. What you need to do is visit this URL, and pick the Gen 3 dish to view compatible mounts: shop.starlink.com/pick
The antenna has a wide field of view and can electronically steer signals. Alignment isn’t necessary. Even the motorized ones just moved one time at boot up and never readjusted after that.
This mounting accessory is separate from the Starlink system. You can check prices for your market at Starlink.com. In the US where I am, the system costs $599.
For this tutorial, yes. I also did a tutorial on running the cable through an exterior wall, and that was on this garage as well. My actual home unit is on my main home roof, though. I ran the cable to the basement, where I have the Gen 3 router plugged into an eero mesh system to provide coverage to the house.
The antenna on the roof of the house doesn't look very stable even though you tightened the screw it still wiggled with your hand, I imagine the whole antenna will dislodge in case of very strong wind and eventually it will hang broken by its cable! What a nightmare is that plastic cheap stuff they are selling us! 😢
I purchased a gen 3 kit, but unable to mount it to my roof. I bought a pivot roof mount and 150' cable in advance to mount. It was for a gen2 but didn't know it wouldn't work until my gen 3 kit arrived today. Your video says you have to have a gen 3 kit to be able to order gen 3 adapters or parts. I go to the shop menu and it doesn't list any gen 3 mounts. You send a kit and expect people to just set in your yard. Seriously, the prices we pay and have to continually purchase more! Tell me what kind of customer will leave a dish in their yard for someone to walk away with? Your customers deserve better and don't get me started on your customer support, that doesn't seem to exist
You can select your dish version to see the appropriate accessories by click the “Not your Starlink” link in the shop, or visiting shop.starlink.com/pick. Compatibility is also listed in each product description. My channel isn’t affiliated with Starlink, so I can’t address the other issues you raised.
The quality of hardware being supplied with the generation 3 setup looks much more inferior and lesser quality compared to the earlier versions,I had been seriously considering Starlink as an option for my internet setup but after seeing a number of videos of the new gen3 hardware I have to say I'm unimpressed........
WE JUST BROKE OUR KICKSTAND FOLLOWING YOUR VIDEO! 😢😡 Please inform others that under the kickstand are two tabs that lock it it. You have to lift the kickstand up from the bottom AND THEN you can slide it down. 😭😭😭 That information would have helped us a ton and now we have a brand new starlink that already is broken. Ughhhhhhh!!!!
That new flimsy mounting system is awful. Those two little clips will give way under a big gust. Don’t get me started on the pole mount that has already been recalled by SpaceX. People don’t really like their expensive new dish flying off their roof. SpaceX obviously never tested the new dish in real world conditions
I doubt it based on my experience so far. You have to lift up and slide the mount plate out at the same time, not something wind can do. Obviously, don’t keep your dish up in a tornado. But in Starlink’s history I’ve seen very few properly installed dishes fail because of wind.
@@StarlinkHardware there is currently a recall on all pole mounts. A lot of people had their antennas destroyed because of the poor design. That is not just my opinion. The two tiny clips that will likely fail in strong winds is, along with many other reviewers. The V2 was objectively a much stronger design
@@gammagonad1657 The Pipe Adapter recall had to do with the bolt, it could loosen over time. It had nothing to do with the mounting plate or how it attached to the dish. Anyone concerned about Gen 3 can always just buy Gen 2, as both are available. But I have all the mounts and multiple Gen 3 units being tested, and they are holding up fine.
@@StarlinkHardware I never said the recal had anything to do the mounting plate, but once that’s fixed just you wait and see it will definitely be a problem. It obviously was not as well designed from the beginning like the V2 was. You can tell that not much thought was put into it other than “build it cheaper”
Do you expect your customers to start drilling into their homes and leave the dish setting in their yards? Then drill more holes, if or when they get the proper parts to mount it to our homes or yards. Or, activate their kits and wait for the proper mount that will hold up in real world conditions. We customers deserve way better, for the prices we pay. Come on, plastic clips!!!!
I cannot for the life of me understand why the cable is not installed in conduit. Cables should never be exposed outside a premises or below a certain height inside the premises. I thought this was a Starlink authorised video. This guy is just an amateur.
Conduit is overkill, the Starlink cable is rated for outdoor use. The official Starlink instructions don’t call for conduit. I’ve had my original dish installed for over 3 years, the cable is fine.

Yes, that’s a good idea. On the ground, set it up and open the alignment tool. It will be the same direction on the ground as on the roof.
Thank you, great video!!!
You are welcome!
Do starlink have this set up with a longer mast?
No, if you need more reach I recommend using an aftermarket J-Mount with the Gen 3 Pipe Adapter. I have a guide on J-Mounts here: www.starlinkhardware.com/guide-to-using-a-j-mount-with-starlink/
Hello, I saw your video and I would also like to order Starlink, but there is one problem. With the initial order it seems to me that Starlink wants to give me the second gen instead of the third one, as I prefer the third gen a lot more due to the conditions where I live. Will Starlink give me the second gen anyway or will it give me a third one instead? As though it looks like the second gen according to the pictures and description.
in my area they let you choose during the ordering process
not in mine, I come from Slovakia
@@frantiseklos7283 I've read in other comments that the Gen 3 is US only, but that will probably change in the future.
can be, starlink I ordered came to me 2 generation, from the speed I'm totally satisfied I'm downloading some stuff my brother plays online games and others are also on the Internet and everything goes without problems.
We have a gen1 and 50 foot trees to our North so it has never been useful, too much obstruction from the trees.
can we buy a longer cable and does that affect the signal? Where do we buy said longer cable if available?
@@billiejostoddard372I think the gen 3 pipe adapter was recalled. When you receive it, make sure it’s the new gen 3 version.
Can this install just the mast & panel adapter on top of Starlink yard pole anchored to Airstream trailers the V3 ROAM Starlink?
Whats the wind rating with this mount?
Starlink hasn't assigned a wind rating, but based on my experience and time with it, it's able to handle moderate winds like 40-50 mph. I've had gusts up to about 60 mph in storms with no issues.
@@StarlinkHardware Try gusts of 120 MPH.
Given it is a slide and click adapter, wont strong winds break the clip of the adapter and have your dish fly away?
Unlikely. There are two locking tabs, and it takes direct upward force on the tab to disengage them.
Does Starlink offer a wall mount that will accommodate a wide roof eave? Mine is about 30 inches. The fascia board is partially obscured by the rain gutters, so if I must use the fascia board, there will need to be an additional piece of wood to provide a base for the mounting bracket.
does the kit have a part number so I can look it up?
I don't think there is a part#, but here is the direct URL to the shop page: shop.starlink.com/products/us-consumer-wall-mount-gen3
where can i purchase this mount or the roof mount?
shop.starlink.com
Any foreseeable issues with wind or snow?
It's survived the winter here so far! The mount itself is secure with the 2 lag screws. I found it nearly impossible to separate the mast from the mount adapter. Despite being plastic, I also trust the mounting adapter plate that snaps into the dish. The wobble isn't confidence inspiring, but from what I can tell so far, doesn't appear to have any affect on performance or stability of the mount.
What is the length of the RJ45 cable that is sent by Starlink?
50 feet is the default cable. They have a 150' version in the shop.
Is there something I could build to shelter the satellite dish that would not interfere with the signal?
Does this turn 360 degrees?
@SouthAlabamaPiper31 plenty of third part mounts that are better built if you need it
I live in south Texas (4 miles north of Mexico). We regularly get high winds. That flimsy joint between the mount and mask looks like the Gen 3 Antenna-Dish would turn into a good kite.
Do the Starlink wall mount pivot 360?
Yes
best off luck star link im w8 pakistan, im warking stro fiber pakistan
What phone are u using with app?
any recent enough ios or android device should work
Im new to starlink and my satellite arrives tomorrow but im worried that I may have ordered the wrong wall mount.
What you need to do is visit this URL, and pick the Gen 3 dish to view compatible mounts:
shop.starlink.com/pick
@StarlinkHardware That sucks 😅 but thank you for clearing it up so hopefully nobody makes the same mistake I did.
Why did they do away with automatically finding satellite?
The antenna has a wide field of view and can electronically steer signals. Alignment isn’t necessary. Even the motorized ones just moved one time at boot up and never readjusted after that.
Thanks bro!!
Minded and come with instructions
nice video.
Damn strong wind like 60 mph blow it off the mount hanging by the cable
This has been through 50-60 mph gusts during storms and it didn’t budge.

Is price is only 55 for starlink system??
This mounting accessory is separate from the Starlink system. You can check prices for your market at Starlink.com. In the US where I am, the system costs $599.

HOW DO I ORDER THE WALL MOUNT KIT I ALREADY HAVE THE STARLINK GEN 3?
Here is the link to the Starlink shop where you can purchase it: shop.starlink.com/products/us-consumer-wall-mount-gen3
Where is your router, garage?
For this tutorial, yes. I also did a tutorial on running the cable through an exterior wall, and that was on this garage as well. My actual home unit is on my main home roof, though. I ran the cable to the basement, where I have the Gen 3 router plugged into an eero mesh system to provide coverage to the house.
Where can I get this kit
Available, location Onitsha
The antenna on the roof of the house doesn't look very stable even though you tightened the screw it still wiggled with your hand, I imagine the whole antenna will dislodge in case of very strong wind and eventually it will hang broken by its cable! What a nightmare is that plastic cheap stuff they are selling us! 😢
This dish and mount have been through severe thunderstorms with gusts up to 50-60 mph. No issues at all!
@StarlinkHardware Thanks for the infos, but here in the philippines, hurricanes often occur in excess of 50 and 60 mph!
Gen 3 is trash. Standard Actuated was the best way to go.
Buy gen 2. It's pretty cheap now...
@@skullystrench6048probably they changed from gen2 because of the cost, not quality of connection and speed...
😂😂😂 All the structural parts are made of steel, what do you want, heavy gauge titanium?
My gen 2…. Slapped it up there anywhich way and it did ALL the alignment by itself.
Plastic snaps on the dish make me nervous. One instance of bad weather and you're down $600.
24 minutes without a speed test?
WE JUST BROKE OUR KICKSTAND FOLLOWING YOUR VIDEO! 😢😡 Please inform others that under the kickstand are two tabs that lock it it. You have to lift the kickstand up from the bottom AND THEN you can slide it down. 😭😭😭 That information would have helped us a ton and now we have a brand new starlink that already is broken. Ughhhhhhh!!!!
The Gen 3 feels like a cheap and nasty downgrade.
It is certainly cheaper to produce for Starlink. In my opinion, quality has gone down hill with every dish since the V1/V2 round dishes.
Who cares as long as it works?
I think this one
OK.
The whole dish is made of plastic, I don’t think it’s an issue. Mine has been installed for awhile through 40-60 mph gusts with no issues.
I hope you know this TH-camr is not starlink themselves he is just here to help support those who are interested. So he doesn’t have “customers” 💀😂
Dude think this channel is Starlink’s 😂
@@StarlinkHardware 40-60 mph is a mild breeze !
@@StarlinkHardwaredon't pay attention to attention seekers.
These are low voltage and weatherproof cables, no need for conduit.
