I really appreciate this review. I’ve seen just about all the reviews coming out of the company sponsored trip to Morocco and having done so, it becomes easy to see in most of them the company marketing points being regurgitated back at you. Your review covers the important details of the bike’s functioning coming from your own experience as a rider. Using the video with arrows to illustrate your points really helped me to understand what you are saying. Technical but not boring. The points you make and illustrate shows me that your approval of the bike is genuine. Well done. Thanks.

We own a GT(wife) and a Rally Pro for myself. Your review is quite accurate. On the road, although it feels smaller, I do like the GT, it’s a tad smoother and less rebound in the front end. I’m sure you could tune that out of the rally but it’s all manual adjustment and not worth the time to go back and forth on. The GT is electric adjustable and you can adjust the ride on the fly, very nice setup. At 6’5” I feel more comfortable on the Rally, my weight is 200lbs so I’m not huge, just a lot of leg and I love how tall the rally pro is. Honestly I’m amazed how how nice both machines are for the price....

I may be biased (ScramblerXE 1200 owner) but I think Triumph is THE Best motorcycle manufacturer around right now. They have been for about 3 years IMO...really upping the quality and performance of their whole line up, all while not price gouging or getting ahead of themselves like other brands that have been around for over a hundred years *cough-HD-cough*😆 Great video!

Mirroring the comments below, well done mate. Excellent detailed (did i say detailed?) review. Just what us wonks want to get out of a reviewer. Nothing says more than comparing the new with the old demoing with visuals. And it looks like you gave it a proper thrashing from which to share your eval. You have a new sub! Your attention to all aspects big and small along with production value are second to none.

Best and most educational review I have ever seen. I am so aware of all the bad pathetic reviews about everything online. This was so perfect. Fun with someone who knows something and who goes into details. I also read your review. This mc seems very good.I think it is incredibly cheap if you compare with competitors such as honda AF 1100.But the angle of the front fork should be redone as you say.

Steve, I am looking to buy a new adventure bike and am looking at the Tiger 900 or Yamaha TENERE 700. I saw the T7 at my local dealer last Saturday. Looks a little uncomfortable for longer rides. So I am looking at the Tiger 900. I am struggling with which version of the Tiger to buy. I ride 75% on road and 25% off road and am planning some longer, cross country rides. I am in my 60s so don't want a big bike like the BMW GS. Which Tiger do you think would fit me better, the Rally or GT. I like the extras on the Rally Pro and GT Pro, but don't know if they are really needed. Does the Rally handle on the road as good as the GT? Also, did you notice any excessive heat from the motor on the Tiger? I understanding this was a problem on the Tiger 800 and on the Tiger 1200. Thanks, Adam

Over many years I’ve learned that, at least for me, it takes a lot of time and distance to fully appreciate the character of an engine. Some I’ve loved off the start and then, not so much (Boxers). Others I’ve been okay with off the start and learned to love over time (VFR’s). I really like the Triumph triples, but I’ve yet to try this newest example, and therein lies the rub: A short demo ride tells me next to nothing about the fit between the engine design and designs I have about where and what to ride. That’s why quality reviews like help. Well done!

Hiya…. Thanks for a wonderful product introduction. I wouldn’t call it a review as most things aren’t a review unless one has lived with the bike for a long time, like you have with your 800. In any case, yours was one of the better product introductions for this bike out there. Most others just simply narrate the company script and the specs. You actually pointed out some valuable comparisons with the 800. I really enjoyed your video.
Anyways, here is my question. Let us say that we have a rider who likes to tour long distances. Let us also say that this rider isn’t too likely to beat up the bike off-road like you are doing in the video. However, this guy lives in a part of the world where on-road riding often feels like off-road riding (just cuz), making said rider more interested in the Rally (with its spoke wheels) than in the GT (with the alloys). But given his typical preference of just touring, said rider is wondering how well the Rally (with its 21 inch front wheel) handles as a regular on-roader. I mean how easy (or hard) is it to flick the Rally around some bends for someone who is say five and a half feet? A secondary question is, is it true that the GT gets more rear set pegs than the Rally to make it more of a roader?
Oh and one more question. Have you by any chance ridden the Suzuki V-Strom 650 XT? If yes, how would you rate that bike; especially compared to this Triumph 900 Rally? The V-Strom isn’t a premium offering like the Triumph is; but it does have tubeless spoke wheels and bulletproof Japanese reliability. But the thing is 476 lbs and has a wheelbase that is 9mm longer than the Tiger; which could potentially be a pain when the road gets gone.

This is the best adv review I have ever seen. I thought this was an excellent and HONEST review. Great examples of problems throughout the generations of Tigers and how they fixed it with this latest one. The videos showcasing these issues such as knife edging and rear wheel bounce were great. Also, being realistic about what future owners will be able to do on the motorcycle and the need for practice and training for off-road riding. This is a breath of fresh air in what’s usually a glowing review by a very skilled rider that try’s to make it seem like the bike is making all the difference. PLEASE make more like this.

Thx Steve (& ADV Pulse)! That was spot on on everyway mate! I'm definately not a Rally Pro, ha, ha! But you got me convinced in buying one!
I am sometimes looking (read: dreaming) for my next bike (after my 2015 Tiger 800 XCx) and the Tiger 800 (latest model from 2018) came up as well as the Tiger 900 (2020), a R1200GS Rallye as from 2017, a 850 GS and a Honda AT (preferring from 2020 mainly because of cc with ride-by-wire).
In a nutshell... At this moment for what I wanna do with it my 800 XCx is fine, bit of offroading bit of touring bit of adventure. But the Rally Pro is to be set high on my wishlist as of now! :-)
Keep it up Steve, you nailed it again in this video with tech specs and laughs! :-)

I've ridden primarily street bikes for the last few decades (Bonneville , Monster, Ducati Scrambler, etc) and now making the jump to an adventure bike. Still figuring to spend 80 - 90 % of the time on the pavement. Do you think the Rally Pro or the GT Pro (with appropriate tires ) is a better fit ? Thanks for your input.

We own both a get pro and a rally pro, they do ride much differently. The gt is much more at home on pavement. You really notice it in the turns where the GT really dives in, almost as if it is turning for you like an autopilot, where as on the rally it goes where you drive it. There is a noticeable difference in suspension height. We are still learning what they can and can not do, but last weekend I took the rally pro down a backwoods 4x4 Colorado trail that had three foot tall boulders throughout, I don’t thing the GT would have enjoyed it much, but the rally loved it. Sadly the stock tires leave much to be desired for off-road riding, I see the purchase of a set of Bridgestone battlax ax41s in my future.

Does this bike have a low first gear compared to the AT ? I dumped my 2018 ATAS with 4K miles on it because of the horribly tall first gear , junk frame and a redesigned model coming out. This Triumph caught my eye at the dealership today. Now I’m dumping a 2019 450RX with 5hrs on it and shopping for something like this Triumph. Fits my SM and extreme (sometimes) enduro background . Great looking welds on the Triumph bikes , I’m digging them.

nice review thanks, now I don't know anymore because I was looking mainly at the KTM 790 R, I still have to try it actually, but know I should have a look as well at this Triumph. As you mentioned, depends what you want to do with it and my maine purpose will be on road for personal and professional usage, and I do an off-road trip once a year. I had before a 1200 GSA but it is too heavy. KTM for me was, until now, the perfect compromise especially with weight matters...but there is not such big difference between the 2 bikes. But they are 2 different engines and probably one will fit me better.

    Really nice review!
However, the Tiger 900's engine is not the only odd-fire triple made. Between 1976 and 1981 the Laverda Jota's engine had firing intervals of 180°, 180°, and 360°.
The firing order itself has nothing to do with power delivery; the firing _intervals_ are what matter. That's why I think the odd-firing triple was more of a marketing thing than for functionality.

Only thing i would love that Triumph should offer is an cheap option on the Tiger 900 GT to be able to get tubeless spoked wheels on the Tiger 900 GT. I prefer 19 inches front wheel, but i also prefer tubeless spoked wheels; common Triumph!

    • @steve_kamrad5216
      @steve_kamrad5216 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

The cast wheels are tubeless so I'm assuming you want a tubeless 19/17 set up? You can find a used rear eventually and then get a hub for the front and get it laced up. But really cast wheels are fine. I rode the GT quite a bit. It's really good but feels really small so i prefer the Rally Pro in and off road.

The extra low end power comes from the engine being 100cc more. Not just the firing order. I think triples only came in 180° and 120° the 120° was basically perfect laverda jotta came in both was a fantastic bike.

I have a 2018 KTM 1090 Adventure R. I really enjoy the bike on and off road. However, my two complaints are seat height and weight. Im thinking the 2020 Tiger 900 Rally (not Rally Pro) might solve these issues for me and make riding off road a little more controllable. Would I be sacrificing anything by switching to the Tiger 900 Rally that you can think of?

    • @ScramblerStories
      @ScramblerStories 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I'm wondering this as well, although both Steve and Spurgeon have already said Tiger 900 over the Scrambler 1200. I'm guessing due to the weight/balance of the Tiger? But I'd love to know why. The Scrambler 1200 has the more appealing rake angle for off-road, and I would think the low torque is still beter. I've ridden it, but not off-road (even though some of the streets here don't qualify as roads). Won't get to ride the Tiger anytime soon it seems. The Tiger's more practical for me as far as long distance travel goes anyway, but still curious about the Tiger vs Scrambler off-road. I've heard Tiger, but why?

Hi great video have a question about which manufacturer is the most supportive for long distance riders.
I’ve spent 7 of the last 10 years touring.
I’ve used 3 Honda’s ,1 yamaha and 1 ducati . my last purchase was a Ducati multistrada 1200 enduro . I purchased it new in 2018 and 2 months later on July 1st set out for a year and a half North American ride. I wanted to be ready for anything that came my way. Which on the cruiser and sports tourer I used before I wasn’t.
I also wanted a bike I could keep for 7 years to do South America and a rtw trip on.
I’m not rich so the plan was do it in stages before the extended warranty ended .
First part of the trip was supposed to be all of Canada ,lower 48,alaska,Hawaii ,part of Mexico and Cuba.
Return to work for a year then ride to Patagonia .
Return to work and then ride RTW.
I thought the Ducati was made for this .
I had the bike serviced by ducati dealers only. I had the bike serviced and inspected each time I crossed the country.
I rode from moto forza ducati dealer in Cali to Motofit ducati dealer in Connecticut. I rode 960 miles the last day. When I arrived in Connecticut I paid almost $3,000 for the 18,000 mile service and some other things they suggested.
A few weeks later at Sturges the bike was shutting off on the highway and turning on. I almost fell under an 18 wheeler.
Ducati used the fact that I had a dirty chain when I arrived in Connecticut at their dealer as a reason to deny my claim. I rode 960 miles in 24 hours . How was my chain supposed to be clean.
Also why would a dirty chain make a bike shut off?
I had to contact the news and the ceo to have them honor the warranty . It took 3 months get the engine rebuild done in Seattle.
Bike lasted 2 weeks and was back in the in San Diego. With similar issues .
Got it back and it lasted 2 days.
    back to the shop.
Those 2 repairs took another 3 months.
Got it back tried to cross the country in 48 hours for the iron but 50cc but the bike broke down 500 miles into on day one. With the same tule of issues. Bike dropped about 20 mph out of nowhere and I almost got run over.
Ride took 6 days .as it kept acting up.
Got it fixed in Florida got it back started acting up again.
None of the Ducati dealers that serviced it wanted to buy it. So I was stuck with it and since I’m not rich I couldn’t replace it until it sold.
I was finally able to sell it to a used bike shop . But I had to pay them $1,000 to take it off my hands.
I was never able to finish phase one of my trip since I was only able to ride the 20 days out of 12 months.
And due to not completing my project I lost the support of the kids charities I was working with.
I plan to start over again but I don’t want to find myself in the same situation.
Which manufacturer would you recommend for my project .
Sorry this is long but I’m not a Starbucks and home adv rider .

What's the difference between Sport and Off Road Traction Control?

    • @steve_kamrad5216

Okay so offroad abs allows locking the rear and allows harding breaking offroad with the front. The maps are really good at feeling natural. Even the offroad map feels connected and not laggy. Offroad traction allows 50% slip and offroad pro allows full off traction control.
