- For 2024, Triumph's dirt-focused middleweight - the Tiger 900 Rally Pro - has received significant updates that enhance its appeal to both loyal fans and newcomers alike. This model year introduces 13 more horsepower along with increased peak torque, enhanced braking, upgraded bodywork, refined electronic rider aids, a new 7” color-TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity, and a claimed 9% better fuel economy.
In this video, we give a rundown of its performance on both dirt and street after several days of testing the machine in Southern Spain. Are the engine and electronics updates significant enough to make a major improvement in performance? Does more power make it a better off-road machine? Is it enough to warrant upgrading your previous-generation Tiger 900? How does it match up in the highly-competitive midsized ADV Segment? We have answers to all your burning questions and more on Triumph’s freshly-upgraded Tiger 900 Rally Pro!

This is the review I was waiting for, thanks Steve. I wonder if the steep geometry contributed to that front tuck and crash. In my rides on the 900's I have experienced front end tucks, and even crashes, where I believe the steep rake angle was a contributing factor. It does help greatly to max the front preload and min the rear preload. The manual even says to do that. However, that's a band-aid approach. There is so much to love about this package, I'd still buy one! Thanks again --
I greatly appreciate the input here BigRock :D Follower of your channel weighing out the 890 comparables
@@potkins02 riding exactly behind another bike that's throwing the gravel lose, giving you less traction and still turning left, could that also be one more reason behind the crash?
I believe that the vstrom 800DE steering geometry is less steep than the Triumph. Certainly I found the Suzuki significantly more stable off road than the Tiger Ralley.
Best review on this new Tiger I have seen so far - as I kind of expected... 😉 Am particularly happy to hear about the "harder to stall", as that has been the exact problem I have been encountering on my 800 when going into the dirt every now and then. Thanks! I better start saving up ...
And let me add that I got a fright watching your crash, even though I already knew you came away unharmed. Glad you did!
Ahhhh you know us tiger guys can be picky! You should upgrade to a 2024 RP. I don't always suggest that, but it's time.
Glad to see Triumph are still using you Steve for their launches.Glad you walked from that fall.Cheers.
This is the review I've been waiting for. This is my dream bike for sure!
Thanks bud!
RE: crash - crash was Steve’s fault - which is not a bad thing. Many of us have had similar crashes. Even if the steeper rake angle was a contributing factor, that just means you ride the bike accordingly - you can’t blame the bike! You knew the rake was the rake when you got on it.
Bottom line is Steve was hauling ass on a hard surface with a dusting of thin loose gravel - so super slippery. And then he initiated that obtuse angle corner at a speed greater than his front tire could hold. Nothing mysterious about this.
I loved the crash footage and commentary! Made the video authentic and that much more entertaining. Showed Steve was really pushing that Tiger. Also showed how much it could take by still being rideable after the crash.
EVERYTHING is a trade-off in a bike’s design. And despite that fact, I still love the Tiger.
I foresee a 2nd gen 900 Rally Pro sometime in my future!
Well said 👏
Push hard & you’ll find out 😂
Very good of you to have clear in text info for core data
Great take on the bike ! I have a 2020 TRP, been a great bike, considering going to the 2024 🍻🤘🏽Happy your ok, I’ve taken that same fall a number of times 😫❤️
Cheers and if you don't neeeeeed the motor, call racetech suspension!
Wow, both you and the Tiger bounce well! Glad to see you are ok after that spill.
The bike has had some really nice changes made to it (glad they got rid of that horrible TFT display layout) and slimming down the range was a good move.
It's certainly the bike I'd opt for if I had the money for a largish ADV bike.
Cheers and we'll said, large-ish
Great all in review, its great when you can keep all the epidermis after a skid like that. Technical riding gear, thank you!
Slide forever! Alpinestars for the win this time
Very nicely summarised details for Tiger 900 Rally Pro! 👏
Summarized? This is detailed my dude.
The best reviews are on this channel for sure
Thank you so much for the kind words 🙏
Really like this guy for reviews 👌🏻🙏🏻👊🏻
Thanks my dude!
Hello Steve. Congratulations on the video! Last year I went to Atacama with my Tiger 900 Rally Pro 2023 (fantastic bike!), but after 23 days and 9,700km traveling through Chile and Argentina I came back with a carpal tunnel attack in both wrists due to the excessive vibration of the handlebars. ... My question is: Have you ever done a long trip in Rally Pro 2024? Did they really resolve or greatly attenuate vibrations above 75Mph (120KM/h)??? This to me is the main point that needs to be resolved. Regards from BRAZIL!
I own a 2021 rp. The vibrations aren't the problem, of imagine it's the 23 days on the bike, but I can confirm the reduction with the new top triple clamp and rubber mounted bar clamps.
@@steve_kamrad5216 Thank you Steve.
In the comparison part of the video, the one bike that I think was missing was the BMW F850GS.
Anyway, fun enjoyable video! I watched the whole thing! - some thing I don’t often do. Cheers, and thanks for the video.
First, I’m glad you’re OK. 👍
Triumph really seems to be on top of their game through the range of bikes.
Great ride footage and insight into the bike Steve.
Got me jonesing for another bike. Cheers! 🍻
Thanks for the corncerns! I'm thankful it was me and I didn't get hurt. Some of the other journalists behind me might not have bounced so well! The new tiger motor is suuuuppppeeeerrrrr peppy.
@@steve_kamrad5216 Pulled the front end off the ground. 😁
I have to admit that I don't bounce like I used to.... but that's what gear is for!
I love the Tech7 boots, that's a great choice.
I enjoy watching Adventure riding right up to the point I see someone hitting the deck for no apparent reason. Then I question my longing for an ADV bike. 😂 23:42
Superbly detailed and honest review of a very effective bike.
Awesome detailed review, I guess the fall could be due to lack of traction. Do you think handle bar damper could have helped?
The new 900 GS has one. 😊
Waiting for that too
Great review! Does the 2023 Tiger 1200 Rally Pro also have LINKED BRAKING when in the on road settings? Would be nice to have more comparisons made to the 1200 Rally Pro as that is likely the choice that many would be considering, vs just a review and update from what changed on the older 900. Glad you are OK.
2023 does not have linked brakes. The 1200 is big, not like 30 pounds bigger, but much bigger. Still rad, but don't want to get caught under one.
The bike slides really well.(Yeah vertically and horizontally) Great review Steve!
Lmfao! That thing slid so well it almost made it under the fence!
Great review, thanks! Question, is it possible to dial up the front preload and dial down the rear preload and gain a couple degrees of rake for better off-road stability? Keep up the good work!
So you can absolutely do that to improve balance of the bike. Also I opened up the forks and added 34.5 cc's of fork oil per leg. 69cc in total... nice. No really I did, and the front forks had a little bit better "hold up" but ultimately heavy straight rate springs and valving really helps. The stock progressive springs don't respond much to preload in the front. The rear, yeah exactly take all the preload out. Maybe 2mm showing. But proper geometry is the way to go.
@@steve_kamrad5216What about changing to a heavier fork oil?
@@ChrisSauer-oe5ve no, heavier fork oil doesn't work like you'd expect.
Great review. I'm still riding my '16 XC but would love a new Tiger.
You'd be mind blown how good it is!
Thanks Steve, this explains things pretty well. I have a 2023 GT Pro 1200 and when I ride it on gravel roads it felt, well, different. I assumed it was the wheel but my Ducati Multi V2 had the same size front wheel and it must be in my head! I bet it is that rake angle. My 1090 Adventure R I just absolutely abused, and I always felt stupid confident on dirt roads & two tracks. I even took it on single tracks and would lean it way over, then on the highway it was well, sluggish but not horrid, always assumed it was the 21 wheel. Just googled after watching your talk about rake angle annnnnnnnnnnnnd welp there it is.
I still really like the Triumph stuff, I also have a 765 street triple RS, the workmanship is just whew amazing. My 1090 was so damned annoying with things breaking or leaky tires.
I have a serious question though, the only time I dropped my 1090 R was when I forgot to turn off the traction control after a river crossing. Was the traction control on with your wreck?
Most reviewers do not test the crashibility of test bikes. Thanks for that!
Great review.
Any tip on how to overcome the steep rake? Maybe lower rear suspension with less preload?
Push the forks down in the triple clamps and lengthen the chain until the rear axle is almost at the back of the swing arm.
Great review. What alpine stars jacket is that?
That's the Venture XT jacket www.alpinestars.com/products/venture-xt-jacket
Would a steering stabilizer help with the rake angle issue?
To quote Casey Stoner, " Obviously your ambition outweighs your talent ".
Did he say that to Rossi?
Casey also got hit by car riding a bicycle and I wasn't riding with "ambition" but cool quote.
Good to see you back in action, talking about the rake when my brother had the tiger 800 riding in the sand on the NMBDR it seemed like my Africa twin was a lot more stable I am not sure if that is the reason for it but it sounds logical, Tiger is much nicer fit and finish than the Honda though. Man walking away from that slide in the gravel says a lot for wearing proper gear that looked like it would have been some wicked road rash at least without proper gear.
Yeah the Honda AT has a standard rake angle around 27 depending on year. When the tiger "falls in" that's when you need to be pushing against the bars, balancing with ur feet, and riding well. After that suspension from a tuner can help with "mid stroke" hold up. And then it keeps the weight off the front. Man tell me about it! That alpinestars gear saved my Hyde!
Great review. Any thoughts on moving from a 2015 R1200GS to the Tiger 900?
Yeah, do it and never look back
Amazing review and glad you are doing fine after the crash. Most of the vibrations comes after adding aftermarket upper crash bars which l have it on my Tiger 800 2016 XCA, after watching your crash l will skip the it for sure, guess engine guards plus bark busters should be enough. l'm wondering if the compression bump (11.3:1 to 13:1) of the new model is a big enough reason to sit this one out. You know what they say never get the first version of anything and l wonder if that point is valid for this case. Love my 800 XCA but soon l will demo the 2024.
I haven't sat out a new model in years, and with the updates it's amazing. I wouldn't wait but also no vibrations
Epic crash Bruv. You and the Triumph took it like a champ
That flight home hurt!
That did go quick
Didn't even know it was happening
Heya Steve awesome video. So I've got a tough choice - '24 900 RP or '23 Husky Norden 901 Expedition. Have you got any thoughts for comparison on/off road and how well rounded one is vs the other?
I think the Norden still likely has overall better offroad electronics than the RP.
I’ve come from a husky 701 and want more on road comfort for the long hauls but don’t want to lose too much fun factor and capability for the off-road adventure.
Get the RP. That would be my choice. 100%
@@steve_kamrad5216 haha, easy.
Would the Rally Pro be as good on the road as my 2021 900 gtpro i have at the moment- looking at upgrading to a 900 Rally Pro for touring etc
Don't be to hard on yourself, running the stock tyres is the main reason it let go on that loose gravel, but you to test stock as supplied.
Great review Steve, thanks! My question would be how does it compare to the Husqvarna 901. I understand that it would be heads and shoulders above the Norden in terms of reliability (being a KTM product) but in terms of off-road handling how does it rate? I would say the Tiger 900 would be the same or even a bit better on the road.
Did you do any paved roads? Has the annoying engine vibration (highway speeds) been removed by the new balancing bits? What's with the janky windscreen handle being changed from metal to plastic?
It's better, and the windshield is fine
Did you test any post 2021 Africa twin? Could you compare the AT with this bike? apparently those have a lower centre of mass and the Tiger is a bit more top heavy?
Oops, gotta watch the whole video before writing questions.. great review!
Hi. Vibrations fix ?
Yup. No more.
Yesss
So did you adjust the front suspension for off road before the crash?
Yeah I even dove in more than other people did before we left. The geometry on the front end is nearly 3 degrees too steep and has been since 2010 with the 800s. We were also running high tire pressures on the anakee wilds, which you don't need to do.
My ‘21 rally pro is stuck in my garage for this Colorado winter. This review has me dying to ride
Get suspension!
What do you thinks about the theory of reducing the back suspention to the max to improve the rake angle ?
Did it, it helps but so would the proper rake angle
Would this bike be a worthwhile upgrade over my Honda Goldwing for occasional off road riding ? I like to take it steady and don’t need to do power slides or anything.
Without a doubt it will be better. But if you like the GW maybe buy a dirt bike to play around on or a Honda trans alp will be much less and easy going
How good is Rally Pro for road riding? Can it be my versatile bike if I want use it for about 80% on road and 20% off-road?
Perfect choice. It's amazing on road
Hello! Have you tried this bike on highway speeds(120+ kph)? Are there really no vibrations? Many previous gen owners reported this issue.
Never had a vibration issue 2020 to present. Anyone saying it's an issue could do things to fix it but it's a non issue
Been waffling about which bike to get for a while but this seals it i think.
Let me know which way you go. Also don't read my upcoming Ducati Desert X Rally review!
@@steve_kamrad5216 that bad boy is out of my price range hehe, i dont have to worry about that. Just gotta sell my scrambler 1200 xe first, though if i could afford to have 2 street bikes i would keep it forever.
Why did linked brakes take so long, and why does no one use linked brakes on their middleweight line up? Such a small, but really great feature. Great that it can be switched off.
People think they're better than a computer that reads wheels speed 5 million times a second I guess. Really nice on the road.
Any problems getting warranty work done on it? How was the oil consumption?
Warranty work is ur dealership and the new rings and high comp pistons should exhibit minimal oil consumption.
@@steve_kamrad5216 My new 800XC consumed multiple quarts/1,000 miles.
@JayBee-cr8jm well over 1 liter per 1000 miles is out of spec and they should have offered a solution
@@steve_kamrad5216 My dealer told me that the bike didn't burn oil. He claimed: "we sold five of them and none of them burn oil".
Endless complaining got me nowhere with them.
I then contacted Triumph. Triumph then contacted my dealer. My dealer told Triumph that I never complained about oil consumption.
Triumph told me I should have complained to me dealer and because I didn't do so, they would not warranty my bike.
That's why I ride Kawasaki's and Suzuki's.
Hello. Vibration fix ?
Yeah, all gone
2023 are being discounted big time, decisions.....questions did you adjust the front Suspension to max out the rake angle, Im no pro, but I think that has to do with the preload?
You are correct and these bikes were set up not only for offroad as you described but I also turned my friend up a bit too.
For competition, how about the new F900GS? I get BMW just came out too, so not too many reviews out there yet, but I think they might be very close. I think $$, equipment, features & quality wise they would be really close.
Triumph has always beaten the BMW in a lot of ways, advpulse will review the f900 next week!
I have a 23 rally pro is it worth trading up to the 24 as most off my riding is touring with little off roads ? Great vid glad your ok 👍
Nah, read the article, I talk about suspension options if you have a 23 instead of upgrading
How do you not even mention the BMW 850GS or 900GS or GSA in the competition section? Seems like you were told not to mention them…things that make you go 🤔
Can somebody explain clearly why he crashed please?
Regards
VIBRATION. I test road both Rally Pro 2024 and GT Pro 2024 for 1.5h on the same roads on Tuesday. GT Pro engine is smooth like butter, but Rally Pro does have vibrations. It's not super strong like the previous model in high revs. But they are there. I would say that 2024 Rally Pro vibrates more than GT Pro 2023. This could be for many reasons, for example 2024 Rally Pro isn't even half way to first service, while my tested 2023 GT Pro was couple years old so quite a bit of mileage.
After I finished 1.5h ride on Rally Pro 2024, my left foot was tingling. However, Rally Pro had accessory foot pegs which doesn't have rubber mounts. Left hand wasn't tingling, but there was a feel that it was about to start. I think if I road extra 30 minutes, my left hand would have tingled as well.
The easiest way to compare is to put it in sixth gear, put cruise control on 65, 70, 75, 80 mph, and touch handlebars with fingers. Not hold it, but just touch. The vibrations on Rally Pro 2024 is very significantly more than GT Pro 2024
Salesman said it's because of different geometry (internet speculated maybe it's because of crash protection. Demo bike had also Tank protection bars), but I know that the same thing was said about 2023 models as well, that Rally Pro vibrates more.
LEG ROOM. Also, I feel like Rally Pro has less room leg. Foot-pegs is mounted the same height, but more back. Which means that your knees are more bent. Sitting on GT Pro with high seat position the knees were perfect, no pain or discomfort, but Rally Pro there was.
HEAT. Also, I tested bikes at 13C, and there was warmth coming to knees. Not heat, but warmth. The whole area around knees are warm on both sides. Which is annoying, because your all body dressed for 13C, but suddenly your knees are warmed with like 20-30C temperature constantly. I wonder if it gets worse at higher temperatures. And I didn't do any standing in traffic, there was almost no traffic light stops. I guess it's not the same problem as last year model, because the same is happening on both sides. Also... no idea how it's in higher temperatures. Could be it's not a problem.
Wut?
@@steve_kamrad5216 in conclusion. Placed an order today for 2024 Rally Pro in Ash Grey/ Intense orange.
Delivery first week of March. Will pretty soon be able to tell more about all of the vibrations and heat, and leg space
@@PovilasPanavas oh. Nice dude, congratulations
@@steve_kamrad5216 thank you! :)
Engine heat is a major problem on my 2018 tiger xrt. I'll only consider upgrading to a 24 model if triumph has found a way to reduce engine heat.🏍️🏍️🏍️
Cool bike mate! The only thing I don't like is .. simply the one eyed main front lights !! Thing that the 1200 tiger doesn't have!! It has nice simetric set of front lights!
