Part of me is just waiting for a deer to sprout out of nowhere. There is a bit on anxiousness during these parts of the vid. Especially when rhe Asian ogre is behind the wheel.
Thanks as always for evaluating vehicles honestly through the lens of meeting their intended purpose for an actual buyer. There will be no shortage of TH-cam and print reviewers whose analysis of this car won't extend beyond wetting themselves over it. We depend on you for this instead.
Ugh removing the analog tachometer is such a let down. Looks so much cheaper without it. Porsche's tach was always like a nice timepiece. Just looked classy. Can't wait to see the reactions when they remove it from the cars...
It’s already happening to the next 911, the spy shots have shown the interior for the 2025 model and it had it. The Audi-fication of Porsche. It’s over. We are officially entering the cheap, planned-obsolescence car era.
It's criminal this channel hasn't hit a million subs yet. The bar set by SG in terms of quality of production and information seems to be miles beyond any other cartubers on here.
@user-gz9tq9fo5b Data driven reviewers are rarely rewarded. Honestly in the car youtube space only Engineering Explained really seems to have that following when it comes to super nerds, maybe Matt Moreman though he is a little dry (still great no hate). SG is amazing and I love them but you know as well as I do the easy way for followers is more pomp and circumstance than nerdy substance. If the easy button was actual deep substance or for perspective buyers SG, Speed Phenom, Tyre Reviews, and Harry's Garage would probably be the top channels. Just my 3 cent. Wtf do I know edit. I remember an 812 GTS review from Autocar by Matt Prior. It was a great review, but there were a handful of comments that were upset he wasn't going wild in the wet in what looked to be south of 10c. But it was a solid review for actual perspective buyers. Not for armchair youtube racers. The audience is just smaller and it's not as exciting.
As a 911 owner, I completely agree the Cayenne is too much money. But I just bought a 2016 Cayenne turbo (certified) for 44k. It has new tires and brakes and looks and drives like new. These vehicles depreciate rapidly and that makes them a great buy on the used market (unlike the 911).
This lifelong Porsche (911) owner agrees; Too much money. .. My wife calls me Porsche Stupid. .. Okay sure,,,, but not for any Porsche SUV. .. A 911? .. Guilty.
They depreciate rapidly because repair and maintenance is expensive, so used car buyers are engaging in a risk and people with more money prefer to buy new. People so easily neglect the market principles at play. Used cars are not a big bargain. They are cheap for a reason.
@@Dowlphindepends. Also a 911 (and GT4) owner with a 958.2 Cayenne Diesel purchased used. Best blend of small SUV practicality with sports sedan dynamics, with the bonus of mostly VW-level maintenance costs. I also do most of my own work; it’s needed very little outside of fluid changes in 2 years and 20K miles, it’s easy to work on, and even at 130K miles it’s butter smooth and rattle free. As a $30K used purchase, I feel like I stole it.
@@DowlphinOver at every day driver the long hair dude just purchased his second Cayenne, (2nd gen) and before he had a 1st gen he continually gives Updates and so far he didn't have any issues whatsoever, just normal maintenance
There’s the Cayenne and then there’s every other 2 row SUV. Yes it’s expensive, but for a reason. It’s a niche product and caters to people who value driving dynamics above all else. I have owned Range Rover sport SVR, several X5’s, Audi Q8 and GLE. The cayenne is by far my favorite of them all. Fast, amazing handling, very comfortable and a great off roader. What else could one want from a high end luxury SUV? I understand people wanting more practicality/space etc from their SUV but if that’s more important then people should consider other options. That said, for people with more than a modicum of financial sense, it’s a terrible vehicle to purchase new. The depreciation is brutal. I thought I was being smart when I purchased my then 4 yr old 2014 Cayenne Turbo S for $70k with 25k miles (MSRP $164k). After 5 years and with 85k miles I toyed with the idea of trading it in on a 911 but was offered a laughable $20k for it. I decided to keep it. As for maintenance, it is straight forward and reasonably priced if one does DIY for basic stuff. If buying used I would highly recommend an exclusionary extended warranty for the longest term/mileage possible. Mine has already paid out $15k+ for stuff like leaking valve cover gaskets, control arms and air suspension repair, which is still an ongoing issue that the dealership service department has been trying to fix for the past 8 months while I drive an absurdly overpriced 2024 base Macan ($75k) loaner. Despite all its issues, I’d still get another Cayenne, just not new, and with extended warranty, because no other SUV drives like it.
My problem with the Cayenne has always been the same, until you get up to the GTS and the Turbo models, these things look absolutely NPC on the road. This S model is a perfect example. Incredibly capable vehicle, utterly anonymous.
You nailed the Porsche buyer - I had a 2008 Cayman, my wife a 2019 Macan and both vehicles put a smile on our faces every time we drove them. No other cars we've owned provide so much driving pleasure and excitement. We're retired now in our early sixties and just ordered a 2024 Cayenne S - my wife simply wouldn't have the base model and I couldn't argue with her! We just stopped full-time RVing with a 43' 27,000 lb New Horizons RV pulled by a RAM 5500, a somewhat scary move we made back in 2020, but we have a lot of great memories for that crazy decision. Same here, we know we have fewer years left to truly enjoy life and are doing our best to live life to the fullest!
not every SUV has to be geared for the mass market and have the most space. Mazda and Porsche have found good niches and they make extremely fun and sporty vehicles. There are plenty of other options out there if you want big and soft, but there are those of us that will sacrifice a little bit of utility for driving engagement and fun. Glad these vehicles exist. just recently got a Mazda, CX, 90 after testing the Kia telluride, and Hyundai palisade, and Toyota grand Highlander, and the Mazda is so much better for me personally.
Finally someone who shares same thought with me. Those cars are for those 2% customers who loves Zoom Zoom while having enough space to support family. Apart from family duties, we just want to have some fun on the road.
You guys are totally correct. I know several people who own that SUV and they did not buy it for space and utility. It’s a niche product for a niche segment of the luxury auto market.
I’ve had a new 2024 cayenne S since early September. It’s my 8th Porsche and second Cayenne. Great vehicle. Great engine. However, I agree it is too expensive. Porsche prices have increased 15%-20% in the last 3 years. Enough is enough. As great as the cayenne S is for what it is supposed to be, it’s too expensive. This will probably be my last cayenne and with the hassle buying a 911 has become, may be my last new Porsche.
But what else do we buy? The x5m and gle amg are stupid expensive too. The genesis gv80 just don’t cut it even at the highest trim. I want to pay under 80k but can’t find anything that is worth it
A quick comment on Mark's theory that Porsche and Mazda don't understand the SUV market: I think they do, but they also understand they can't compete with the volume leaders. Instead of going for the largest market share (people who want lots of space, storage, and practicality,) they're focusing on the segment of people who do prioritize driving dynamics and character. There might not be enough of us to make them the volume leaders, but there's a large enough market segment to make their offering profitable.
Really love the way you guys discuss the pros and cons of the vehicles you review. I love this new Cayenne, but like Mark would NEVER buy another one after my last experience with a Cayenne S. That was a 2016 that I purchased for $85,000 (which, frankly, is where this gen should be priced, not at $135K). Put 60,000 miles on it and went to trade it in for a new one...and was offered $25,000 by a Porsche dealer in my area (Northern NJ). I was stunned. Ever since, I've watched how used Cayenne's depreciate - and frankly, what happens to them is similar to what happens to most luxury SUVs, including Range Rovers...just about 50% depreciation after 3 years. I'm sorry, but that's just throwing money out the window; fine if you've got it and don't feel it, but that doesn't work for me. A similarly priced new 911 will still be worth around 90% of what it cost brand new after three years...these luxo boats are for the wealthy, not for Porsche lovers who have saved all their life for a model from this iconic brand
Buying a luxury sports brand vehicle is never a wise investment. Buy a honda. But then you own a honda and what will friends, family, and strangers think of you? Nobody wants that shame so hence there is a market for highly depreciable cars because you are telling the world you have the means and can enjoy it.
Mark nailed it. I had a Cayenne diesel but sold it because I couldn't even fit my lawnmower in it. It was a fantastic highway cruiser that reminded me of the '80s Mercedes turbodiesel sedans. The range was excellent and even towed well but just didn't have the utility of other SUVs.
In terms of the latter part of your comment, I’d say Porsche is more and more taking advantage of it with their SUVs. There is some real history with their 911 model, but these SUVs are way over priced and yeah, they’re basically only for rich people.
My wife drives a 2024 Cayenne V6. Compared to her previous Cayenne (2019), this one drives much better. To me, the 2019 was the least Porsche like compared to all the Cayenne models that came before it. I like the subtle styling updates to the exterior, and the rear doesn’t look bloated like the previous model. The interior is a mixed bag, and I agree with a lot of the criticisms. Even with the full leather upgrade, it’s lost some of the quality/look/touch of the previous generation. However, unlike most other manufacturers that stick giant displays in front of the driver and center stack, Porsche fully integrates the displays for a nice, finished look. The price increase from the 2019 model is substantial. Without going crazy with options, her Cayenne is right at $100K, and to me, it doesn’t feel that special inside. But, and here’s the big one, it drives so much better than anything in its class. It is comfortable when you want it to be, but if you want to drive it in a sporty manner, you will immediately understand the time and money Porsche spent on chassis development and tuning.
As someone who drives the previous generation (2019) model often, I agree with the points made that the interior doesn't function as well as it's rivals. It lacks a lot of storage space for larger items. I often find myself moving my phone two or more times in a single drive just because there isn't a good place to keep it. You definitely give up some interior "norms" for that crest on the hood. Me personally, I would gladly give them up every single time. I guess that makes me the demographic Porsche aimed for. I grew up around the big German SUV's, I've spent a lot of time in them, and the Cayenne has always been my personal favorite, but I do agree you give up a lot of other usable features, like storage, in the pursuit of driving feel and connection. A GLS is much larger, much more space. That space is very noticeable while driving however. The X5 is similar in size, but in my opinion lost it's soul along it's journey to it's current version. The Rover does plush unlike anyone else, but you won't want to throw it around a corner like a Cayenne begs to be. Simply put if you have the money for any of them, go test drive them all before you make a decision. Don't just read/watch reviews online. Do the leg work, put up with the salesmen, and see which one you genuinely want to live with. Great and honest review. Keep it up guys.
After driving several SUV's, I decided on the Cayenne. I don't need a lot of space, but wanted something sporty and fun to drive. I just ordered it a couple weeks ago. I'm so excited to get out of my big SUV and into something smaller. The cabin is so quiet and seats are comfy.
As a NoVA resident, correct. Second gen base model Cayennes and literally any Macan are always for sale for way too much and way too many miles OR been in several accident prior lmao
I feel Jack would stand in a field holding a substandard shovel and advocate for someone making a better, true, comfortable capable shovel that digs dirt better than regular near-crap shovels. That's what Porsche does best. If you have the money and want the best, there you go. If I had the money and wanted the best shovel I could get and it happened to be leather covered and cost $500, so be it.
I had the previous, pre-facelift E3 that was rear-ended by a drunk driver during the supply shortages of the pandemic. I really wanted to get another Cayenne, but couldn't in good conscience pay the 10-20K markups, that dealerships were hoisting on due to lack of inventory, for the same vehicle. Ended up getting a lexus (the only brand that wasn't marking up at the time), and its something I regret so much. I get what Mark's argument, that the functionality of the Cayenne isn't up to snuff. In my experience however, its much easier to forgive poor functionality in exchange for a better driving experience, than it is to forgive a bad driving experience for better functionality.
As someone who has had Audis and Porsches, the new gen Porsches seem to be borrowing from and following Audi way too much. Audi executes Audi better, and Porsche should stick to being Porsche, forget all the tech and focus on driving and keeping the price fairly reasonable. You guys nailed it. These cars cost too much for what you get.
Wow, I thought it will be just another car review (as with many other vloggers), where everything is perfect about the car, but was honestly impressed with your open criticism in certain areas. That's what I was looking for, real world frank opinions. Thank you! You got one more sub.
As an owner of a 2022 Cayenne, I see it more as a tall sports sedan. It's substantially shorter that the BMW X5 and most other SUV's. My Cayenne has about the same amount of interior storage, passenger space and trunk space as the Mercedes, Lexus and Volvo sedans I've owned. It actually has much more rear seat legroom and headroom than a Mercedes E-class. And my Cayenne has a trailer hitch which I use very frequently to carry a bicycle rack. Try getting an OEM trailer hitch on a sedan. I'm not sure what kind of utility Mark is looking for. If you're carrying a lot of people, small children and all their crap then buy a minivan. But a minivan doesn't drive anything like a Cayenne which is just plain fun to drive. I doubt if I'll ever get high centered on snow in the Cayenne like I did in all the sedans I mentioned and the Toyota Sienna I sold when I bought the Cayenne. I'll just raise the Cayenne up on its air suspension. After 15 months of ownership, I've found my Cayenne to be both practical and pleasurable and I plan to drive it for many years. I may eventually buy another one unless something better comes along. Edit: I should have mentioned that I had planned to order a Panamera Sport Turismo but when I finally got an allocation for one in August 2022, some Panamera were arriving from the factory without all ordered features due to parts shortages. That's when I realized that a Cayenne SUV was essentially a "lifted" Panamera and drove amazingly similarly. The Porsche dealer happened to have an in-stock Cayenne equipped mostly like the Panamera I would have ordered so I bought that. The Cayenne's interior and cargo area are VERY similar to that of the Panamera Sport Turismo except for the Cayenne having more rear seat leg and headroom. So ... Mark should look at the Cayenne as being a lifted Panamera or the Panamera as being a lowered Cayenne.
Haven’t driven the base refresh yet but went from a 21 Cayenne base coupe to a 2024 X5 50e and even if they were priced equally, I would take the X5 all day. A new base Cayenne loaded with options for near 6 figures is ludicrous.
coming from 981 boxster GTS, 718 GT4... with 23' catenne as daily... got rid of them all and now I just have 24 cayenne S. You are right. it is a lot of money. but my days of "buying sports cars" , and covid boredom track days are over. i have family and work duties. Just want a fun 30 mintues of my commute rides and i appreciate the value of this car like you guys said in terms of perfect mechanical aspects. I test drove x5m and GLE 63, SQ8 (haven't tried rsq8) they just don't do it for me.
Spot on Review. I drive PCT 958.1. Bought 4 yr ago. Still love driving it everyday. If driving dynamics are important to you and the enjoyment that comes with them. I don’t see any other contenders. (I wish there was) Everything feels well made for an 11 year old car. Maintenance running costs are on higher end.
I have a unique PoV since I have a 2023 Cayenne e-Hybrid. I use my car to tow a boat, so because of that requirement we kind of had to go Cayenne (7.700 lbs). I also wanted the Cayenne for it's PHEV drivetrain (its one of the only PHEVs that can do real towing) and its driving dynamics. I won't lie - I think Porsche is guilty of highway robbery on some of their options. And I did take a long, LONG look at the X5 and nearly went that route. But in the end, I am happy with my Cayenne.
I own a 2023 X5 45e and newly a CX-90 Phev and test drove a Cayenne recently and have to agree with the other that the Cayenne isnt worth it anymore, yes the steering feel and body control is better than our X5 but the X5 is a much better ''SUV''. The CX-90 is an interesting offering, less boring to drive but a little bit more compromised than the vanilla 7 seaters. I also owned a Macan GTS and the CX-90 replaced it. I lost the sound but I still have that tactile steering that make the drive more fun. The X5 is for when we just want to be relax and enjoy luxury. Thanks for another great review guys !!
I found it very interesting that this review called the BMW X5 the Cayenne’s direct competitor. I own an Audi Q5 and a Porsche Cayenne. When I bought the Q5 I thought of the X3 as its competition and considered a Q7/8 for which I felt the X5 was comparable. When I bought the Cayenne, I didn’t even think of a GLE or X5. The Range Rover and the Benz G wagon were the competition in my mind at the price point. You might argue the X5 M variant is competitive. To which I would say, nope, RSQ8 is the comp. I just think of BMW, Mercedes and Audi as competitors, Porsche is an entirely different level/brand to me.
We are in the market for a hybrid 2 row suv in EU. Welooked at the Cayenne, X5 and GLE. We liked the Cayenne the most, GLE had the best interior, X5 made the most sense. In the end they all feel like last leg of old gen cars despite being almost brand new. Giving 100k+ for any of them feels like wasting money. Would rather buy an LC500 and a Skoda Kodiaq and probably end up being much happier overall.
I drive an SQ8 - I'm sure the Cayenne has better driving dynamics (I live in a flat state with straight highways so honestly that's borderline irrelevant in an SUV) but it's tough to justify paying that much more for the same platform with less power and a lot less torque.
Out of all Cayennes, I still feel the original S is the prettiest of them. Weird, huh? It would lap faster than my 928, but with 4 big adults on board. That's good enough for me.
I have a 2015 turbo with pdcc, I need to tow a lethal jet boat, don’t have a lot of driveway space, it’s an amazing car for me, extendable warranty for 15 years I sleep very well every night, great video guys as always
Maturing is realizing the best vehicles aren't the ones that do performance or features better than anything else, cost be damned. Its the ones that give you everything you need for your purposes and nothing more for the lowest price.
(8:23) The 2024 Cayenne E-Hybrid gets 45 miles of all-electric range in city/urban/stop-and-go driving (which is where a PHEV should be driven in electric-only mode, not at highway speeds), according to Kyle Conner's range testing. See his TH-cam video on this, and his range-testing video on the GLE 450e if you ever decide to review that.
Im sure the questions get repetitive but i wish they had time for more live streams. Just love all the sighs from Mark. Can turn it into a drinking game.
agree with 100%. I have had two Cayenne S (15,19) I have had 8 X5s and now have X5 m60i. I have M4 comp and have had 991.1 GTS. I also have had P525 RRS. They all have pro and con. The X5 is best all around, the RRS is most comfortable and best if go off road, the Porsche is best on road and most fun to drive and second best off road. If I can have only 1 car, not a SUV and sports car then Cayenne turbo is the one all day. My 2 cents
I agree on some of your points, but I vastly prefer the smaller size of the Macan to the Cayenne -- more sporty, better driving dynamics. The one thing that Cayenne has that Macan doesn't (sadly) is the E-Hybrid drivetrain, which is the only reason I've ever considered buying a Cayenne.
"It's what the customers want" Is what a company says when they're trying to make a cost cutting move seem popular. In reality, the customer base most definitely doesn't want a digital clusterfuck
I have to strongly disagree with Jack regarding build quality on the 2024 Cayenne. I spent some time with the E-Hybrid and Turbo and although the interior look good, it feels horrendously cheap. A 2007 Cayenne feels like a tank compared to this new one. Cheap plastic everywhere, doors DO NOT feel substantial as Jack said, they feel ordinary and I was shocked to discover the rubber wheaterstrips are attached to the door with adhesive tape! The screen cluster looks cheap, the stalks are o par with any Kia and the steering wheel feels synthetic and plasticky. As opposed with past Porsche models the materials have little substance, are thin and feel hollow. Sorry but this review is very biased and at this pricepoint it is totally unacceptable for a person that knows one or two things about the "perceived quality". Unless you are a snob.
This guy said a 2007 cayenne has better interior. Lmfao. U can think whatever my guy. Porsche has great quality. U sound like a hater that cant afford it so ur saying anything u can to justify why.
I’ve driven and owned lots of luxury and non-lux vehicles. In my experience Porsche builds the best quality vehicles. The only exception is maybe Lexus. Very different brands with different purposes. They are the only brands I will buy now with the exception of something one-off. I would own the previous gen of this car but don’t need the space. I have a Macan GTS instead. Sportier because it is smaller and weighs less.
How’s the transmission in the GTS? Is it different from the base Macan? I commented earlier about how we had a 2024 Macan loaner during the Thanksgiving holiday and I just didn’t think the transmission or the base engine that we had came anywhere close to the 911 we had in service.
@@evanetter I personally don’t like the base Macan due to the 4 popper engine. The Macan S and GTS have a 6 cylinder which makes them totally different cars. My previous Macan was an S. My current one is a 2023 GTS. Even though the claimed horsepower bump stated by Porsche is significant I do not find much difference in street driving. The S probably is delivering near 400 hp rather than 375. My advice would be buy the S.
@@Closertotruth2 but the transmission, though, how is that in the Macan? Fun story…after we got back from the thanksgiving break, we went to go pick up our 911, which was a lease, and they told us we were nearing our mileage limit, BUT that we had positive equity…I won’t tell you how much we ended up making but it was enough that we decided to turn it in early. We got a Jeep Wrangler 4xE a few days later and are shopping around for a more luxury type sedan to fill the void left by the 911. It was a 2021.
It’s expensive but I love the ala carte options. I don’t want a lot of the standard add ons such as panoramic roof, giant wheels or crappy adaptive cruise. Half the “safety” features on my wife’s GLE we have turned off.
The problem with these "sport" SUVs is that they are compromised. They are not a sports car and often times sacrifice the strengths of an SUV in the first place. Porsche's attempt to bridge that gap is very well done, however its difficult to justify the price tag. Interior space is often why someone opts for an SUV in the first place and in the American market seems to fall short. Too many people just get this for the badge.
Congrats on the type s..having driven one it's a quick suburban buss. But in parts of the world where having more than one car is hard, having a fast cayenne is the only option if you want to keep up with your m3 buddies while hauling two car seats and doing 1000km trips to the Alps and still ripping mountain passes.
I have had two cayenne S (15, 19), 10 X5s and now drive a X5 M60 and have M4 comp. I have always said "If I can only have 1 car, its a cayenne and probably GTS or turbo." The issues is price, the 15 was $85k and the 19 was $95k, this is $115 in S trim with simple build. I love your guys thoughts and agree totally
I wanted a Cayenne s but still way to pricey for me so I got a 2020 X5M50I. V8 before the chip shortage. I did watch your video on the 40i and I did think it was enough. I just wanted that V8 sound
I believe they could have blended analog with digital to maximize the true flavor of a cabin that exudes luxury, speed and iconography of what a porsche aspires to be on the road. Going all digital is not my thing, analog gauges bring about a character and the car can still have all of the latest technology
I'm currently a potential buyer asking myself this exact question - is it worth it? After test driving it and the competition, it's so much better. And I love that Porsche kept physical controls unlike everyone else. The mechanical updates were far more apparent than I expected. I have no issue with the price premium on my 992 because 911 hold their value. Cayennes do not.
Addendum, i do find it amusing that US reviewers balk at the US price....in Australia, this car is easy gonna retail on road for $AU200K. Yep we have it good here
Ahhh, starting my morning with a savagegeese review. Priceless. This and a Macan are wonderful vehicles. Yes, they can get very expensive if you start adding options, but even the base ones are well equipped in my opinion. In any case, they look awesome, are well made and are a joy to drive. I drove a Macan this summer, it felt great. Finally - and this might be an unpopular opinion guys, but... I like the digital cockpit.
Could not agree more. We have a Macan S and while you *absolutely* pay more for options you’d find standard in Japanese rivals and most German rivals at that price point, the feeling from behind the wheel makes it more than worth it. The handling is incredible and the build quality is superb. Option it with PASM and Air Suspension (in warranty, for the love of your wallet) and it’s a cushy cruise missile that can take a hairpin faster than it has any business doing while hauling a few things in the back.
The last thing Jack said was this was a great two row suv. However I don't know if you can call it that if it's not great at hauling stuff and its packaging prevents you from being able to stick things in nooks and crannies. If it had one of those issues and not the other that would be different.
I miss the days these depreciated sooo hard you could get a well worn used one for less than a brand new anything and when are you two doing another livestream?!
Recently purchased the a 24’ Cayenne for the driving dynamic and actually having some emotion with the sport exhaust. Wanted to buy the x5 but was very turned off by the high driving position… zeee Porsche is great for tall people.
100% agree with Mark and I currently drive a 2022 Cayenne and my previous car was a 2020 Cayenne S. The interior ergonomics are horrendous, as is the cargo space. Finally, the PCM infotainment system is really subpar. You can tell that German software developers created it because they just don’t get it when it comes to usability and UX in general.
I rented a 22’ Standard Cayenne S on Turo and suv just blew me away! Yes the transmission is sport mode was phenomenal. Perfect gear every time no hesitation. Made all the right noises on the windy roads and never felt like I was asking it of to much. Would need a race rack for that or no regard for human life 😅
I’ve driven the 2019 cayenne e hybrid and love it. I could personally never afford a car like that but seen as it was a low mileage lease machine when purchased, I don’t think it’s the worst
Then again, the 2023 rav4 I drove back to back with it was very nice and a fraction of the cost (both purchased same year) 🤷🏽♂️ so it’s all about if u can sustain it, how do u justify it to urself (or especially spouse LOL)
It looks like the perfect vehicle for the business woman who has it all. A silver-haired fox in a black suit with a high slit skirt who’s smashed through every glass ceiling by working nights and weekends, staying single, and never having the wherewithal to freeze her eggs. Now, she’s got a Porsche Cayenne, a three letter title, no bastards, more balls than the bald marathon runner she’s dating, and no hope-whatsoever-of ever passing along her cursed genes to another unfortunate soul.
Absolutely. Cheap looking, cheap to produce. A complete cop out. And us dumb consumers are eating it up and asking for more. It really boggles my mind.
first problem with Cayennes (and Macans): Porsche drivers won't wave to them. I was giving my nephew a ride in my GT3 last week, and we passed like 6 of the P-Car Eggs, and he asked why I don't wave back. I said, "I don't want to encourage them".
what Mark says about the Cayenne not being worth the money as a daily driver (11:00-11:30) is absolutely correct, with one exception: provided that the interior space is sufficient for your needs (and it is for most people, I would wager), then the Cayenne E-Hybrid can be a fabulous daily driver for those people (like myself) who can charge at home and do the vast majority of daily driving in all-electric but still be able to do long road trips in hybrid mode without having to resort to public-charging infrastructure. But I agree that no ICE-only Cayenne makes any sense as a daily driver; if going that route, it would make more sense to get a Macan or even a Panamera (sticking to four-door Porsches, which I argue are better than any BMW or Mercedes)....
First off, great review as always! I love these guys! We brought our 911 in for an oil change over the Thanksgiving break & got a Macan loaner, it was a 2024 with 800 miles on it. Base level trim, but still well equipped. MSRP of $75,000! We drove it from Dallas to Houston and back. (Obviously we drove it back.) I agree with all the comments about Porsche removing the center consul gear selector in the new Cayenne; I loved having it there in the center of the 911 and it was especially nice in the Macan while driving. Just another place to put my hand during a long cruise… anyway it would probably just take some getting used to. Why didn’t they put it as a stock like Mercedes? After almost 1000 miles over the holiday, I realized that the 911 is the only real Porsche... Was the build quality the same? Yes. Was the styling superb? Yes. But what about the driving dynamics? There is nothing, NOTHING, comparable to the driver placement close to the road in the 911, with the engine behind you, the aerodynamics, the amazing transmission, that’s just all there is and every other Porsche model is trying to be like that, and it just isn’t.. this new 2024 Porsche Cayenne is absolutely gorgeous on the outside and I love it. I’m sure the inside is fantastic, I don’t even need to sit in that, I can smell it already and feel it and know that it’s awesome. That all being said, it’s a soccer mom car. Just get a friggin Tahoe.
You're speaking like another 911 brainwash who claims nonsense, cayman is the best porsche for driving if your're not trying to impress your friends with 911 status card
That’s a good take, Evan, but I did have to chuckle a bit - driving from Dallas to Houston on I-45 isn’t exactly the Nürburgring! BTW, I live in the NW exurbs of San Antonio, so I’m near lots of twisty, hilly roads which would be a blast for you to drive!
Picking up my 2025 GTS tomorrow. $170k, paid cash. Ouch. I will say that resale is a huge reason I went Porsche. The P badge just holds value better than Audi, MB, BMW, etc. I don’t care about space or cubbies, I want a monster SUV that’s also really well built and will last.
I have to disagree with Jackie-O on the interior quality being better than BMW's upper trim levels. I swear some people are mesmerized by Porsche for no other reason than the name.
Not sure but our 2024 x7 with napa, was damn uncomfortable seats with lots of gaps..and we compared to other x7 they had the same tolerances…now the 2022 x5 was night and day better than the 2024…so i dont think you lump all vehicles to say one is better all the time..more of a faulty refernce…
Truly sad about the tach, but it doesn’t matter as these newer Cayenne’s are simply not special like they used to be. The 957 is really the pinnacle for me. I just drove a 2019 at Huntley Ford and the dash was completely warped already.
The Cayenne is a much better package, but it is pretty easy to get an X3 M40i with its B58, 0-60 in 4.1 and call it a day for $63k if fast SUV’s are your thing.
Imagine being one of the farmers on that road, twice a week seeing a new car go by at 100mph

I've enjoyed catching the little parts where they've had to edit out close calls with other cars.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Mark goes door to door handing out cookies and giving rides every so often to stay on their good side.
Thanks as always for evaluating vehicles honestly through the lens of meeting their intended purpose for an actual buyer. There will be no shortage of TH-cam and print reviewers whose analysis of this car won't extend beyond wetting themselves over it. We depend on you for this instead.
Agreed!

Ugh removing the analog tachometer is such a let down. Looks so much cheaper without it. Porsche's tach was always like a nice timepiece. Just looked classy. Can't wait to see the reactions when they remove it from the cars...
It's coming to the 2025 911 and the disappointment is already palpable from the community.
It is where a lot of OEMs are going. And I dislike that.
100%...Porsche had the BEST clusters on the market. Sad that that's changing.
It’s already happening to the next 911, the spy shots have shown the interior for the 2025 model and it had it. The Audi-fication of Porsche.
It’s over. We are officially entering the cheap, planned-obsolescence car era.
Porsche should make both. One would think they’re bespoke enough.
Wtf do I know
edit.

Mark's wry smirk as he's gathering his thoughts and being pitched around like a barrel at sea will never fail to get a giggle out of me.
My problem with the Cayenne has always been the same, until you get up to the GTS and the Turbo models, these things look absolutely NPC on the road. This S model is a perfect example. Incredibly capable vehicle, utterly anonymous.
Totally agree. In my opinion, the base model and the S model without the suspension upgrade are not as good as a cheaper X5 40i...

A similarly priced new 911 will still be worth around 90% of what it cost brand new after three years...these luxo boats are for the wealthy, not for Porsche lovers who have saved all their life for a model from this iconic brand
tbh a quick internet search would have told you just that before buying.
Buying a luxury sports brand vehicle is never a wise investment. Buy a honda. But then you own a honda and what will friends, family, and strangers think of you? Nobody wants that shame so hence there is a market for highly depreciable cars because you are telling the world you have the means and can enjoy it.
Any thoughts on why 911's hold their value much better than cayenne's?
Mark nailed it. I had a Cayenne diesel but sold it because I couldn't even fit my lawnmower in it. It was a fantastic highway cruiser that reminded me of the '80s Mercedes turbodiesel sedans. The range was excellent and even towed well but just didn't have the utility of other SUVs.
Man, its almost like there is a greater and greater gap between the rich and the poor and porsche has become the embodiment of it.
This is an honest review of an honest review😊
8:45 i know it looks ridiculous but that is impressive body control for a boat as this.
After driving several SUV's, I decided on the Cayenne. I don't need a lot of space, but wanted something sporty and fun to drive. I just ordered it a couple weeks ago. I'm so excited to get out of my big SUV and into something smaller. The cabin is so quiet and seats are comfy.
Something about a white Cayenne that screams northern Virginia buy here pay here salvage title car dealer. In any other color they look great.

Having watched this video, one thing was obvious. Jack is the guy that would advocate for a $500 shovel if it had a Porsche badge on it.
These cars cost too much for what you get.
nah... the interiors of Porsches look very different from the interiors of Audis, and much better too, in my eyes...

You are right. it is a lot of money. but my days of "buying sports cars" , and covid boredom track days are over. i have family and work duties. Just want a fun 30 mintues of my commute rides and i appreciate the value of this car like you guys said in terms of perfect mechanical aspects.

You have to love “the Hoff” showing up in both the gauge cluster and the main infotainment screen. German car. Germany loves the Hoff.
Out of all Cayennes, I still feel the original S is the prettiest of them. Weird, huh?
It would lap faster than my 928, but with 4 big adults on board. That's good enough for me.

This is a car that would seem to be maybe a 2013 if I saw it on the road. Porsche styling is so rock steady.

agree with 100%.
Fefos way cheaper than last year
This guy said a 2007 cayenne has better interior.
@@evanetter The PDK trans on the Macans that I have had have been great. Nice deal making out on that lease!

That shot at 15:20 is beautiful
I’ve looked hard at the Cayenne. To me the base unit captures the essence of the concept well enough. At the “S” level, the GLE63 is a viable option.
If you want a bigger golf R, the compromise is worth it. The US doesn't have the roads for this car, which is why it makes less sense here.
Recently bought an MDX Type S. We love everything about it but rarely use the sport mode. It just feels stupid hooning a 4800lb high cg vehicle.
David Hasselhoff on the stereo .... You two guys crack me up. 00:57
8:46 As hilarious as these maneuvers look, it's amazing how composed the vehicle appears while swerving at speed. 😂
Yeah that was very impressive
Congratulations on 700k+ subscribers
I miss the days these depreciated sooo hard you could get a well worn used one for less than a brand new anything and when are you two doing another livestream?!
I don’t have Patreon money, but definitely have happy holidays here’s $30 to hear you two live chat money.
How does the Porsche handle Cornfield Corner and how many Twinkies fit in glove box?
Jack puts french pastries from his appointment only bakery in the PORSCHE glovebox.
LMAO
Congratulations on reaching 700k subscribers! Great content that keeps getting better!
I rented a 22’ Standard Cayenne S on Turo and suv just blew me away! Yes the transmission is sport mode was phenomenal. Perfect gear every time no hesitation. Made all the right noises on the windy roads and never felt like I was asking it of to much. Would need a race rack for that or no regard for human life 😅
all those research videos ive watched didnt help me decide, this one did!
Ordered one with 25k USD options, 6-12 months waiting list. Don't care about the functionality. Cant wait
You overlooked the fact that you will be the coolest mom, waiting for Bronson-Nicole in the school pickup line.
Well done.
Thanks!
Jack just raddling off Cayenne facts like it's going out of style
I just want to say. I loved watching him thrash this boat through the farm roads. And now I want one.
Excellent dialogue and review guys!! On point
It’s the most beautiful SUV!
The 2 of you are the best
I have 2021 S love the way it handles getting 2024 S looking forward to the V8
These large touch screens and electronic dashes are soulless and disgusting. Not just with Porsche but all brands.
I agree they’re getting out of hand.
Absolutely. Cheap looking, cheap to produce. A complete cop out. And us dumb consumers are eating it up and asking for more. It really boggles my mind.
What happens when they stop updating the software on these things ?
Whenever it's old enough for me to afford on the used market it's all going to be shit.
Totally agree. Screens are cheaper than buttons and switches and that's why they're everywhere now.
You never mentioned that picking these up on the used market can save a lot of money.
@savagegeese Hey guys. I’m wondering if you’d rather a brand new Audi RS6 Avant Performance or a Cayenne GTS/Turbo E Hybrid?
I hate the way that Audis look (that front end is sooo Lexus-y)... So it loses to Porsche just on first glance, for me.
first problem with Cayennes (and Macans): Porsche drivers won't wave to them. I was giving my nephew a ride in my GT3 last week, and we passed like 6 of the P-Car Eggs, and he asked why I don't wave back. I said, "I don't want to encourage them".
There are no arguments against buying this car… it’s amazing
14:50 : Can’t wait to see my legal team. THEY NEED MEE!!!” 😅😂
Hey! 700k subscribers. Congratulations 🎉
what Mark says about the Cayenne not being worth the money as a daily driver (11:00-11:30) is absolutely correct, with one exception: provided that the interior space is sufficient for your needs (and it is for most people, I would wager), then the Cayenne E-Hybrid can be a fabulous daily driver for those people (like myself) who can charge at home and do the vast majority of daily driving in all-electric but still be able to do long road trips in hybrid mode without having to resort to public-charging infrastructure. But I agree that no ICE-only Cayenne makes any sense as a daily driver; if going that route, it would make more sense to get a Macan or even a Panamera (sticking to four-door Porsches, which I argue are better than any BMW or Mercedes)....
It’s so pretty. I’ve always thought the Porsche Cayenne just looks so handsome, it’s aesthetically pleasing and easy on the eyes 😊
“The only real Porsche” 🤔 Ever drive a 718?
You're speaking like another 911 brainwash who claims nonsense, cayman is the best porsche for driving if your're not trying to impress your friends with 911 status card
@@agreatd I’ve never driven one! And honestly as I was writing this I forgot the Cayman existed. You’re probably right. It’s lighter weight, right?
@@ohmyggg nope and somebody else just commented about that. Forgot about them for a minute.
I wish both of you would do the interior segment together
2 rows aside, could this vs a loaded Macan S / base-ish GTS be an interesting comparison?
Great work Very well set up / informative video. Would you say an engine ECU tune not a good idea? 3.0 V6 2021
True survivor by David hasselhoff is some class act music selection right there. Much classier than the average Cayenne buyer.
Getting this thing serviced will be a religious experience.
Of the sort experienced in the more esoteric penitent orders, involving self-flagellation
Across the whole Porsche brand? I wonder how the Taycan experience will be like?
@@rolan2drNot as much maintenance to do on an electric car.
I owned two until the maintenance became just insane; would not buy another current Porsche SUV.
Still love my 2011 Turbo Cayenne!!!!!!!!
Welcome to the club, Mark! It is nice to be able to afford it.
The Cayenne is a much better package, but it is pretty easy to get an X3 M40i with its B58, 0-60 in 4.1 and call it a day for $63k if fast SUV’s are your thing.
I could never justify buying this over an X5 M-series. I say this as a current Cayenne owner that’s looking for my next car.
I would never consider Cayenne outside of the E-Hybrid, but I am considering this in PHEV form (only).
