And I thought I'd never say this but, I'm actually looking forward to seeing what the EV Boxster/Cayman has in store for us. If it's anything like the Macan and Taycan, it's going to be epic.
I don't get how people say all EVs drive the same when, for example, all the ICE Macan's competitors drive differently despite almost all having ZF8 + AWD + 6 cylinder engines with fake engine noises.
I don't need an SUV, but when I test drove the Cayman and then jumped into the Macan, I was really surprised at how it didn't even feel like an SUV at all. No, it's not going to replace a sports car or even a sports sedan, but for the practicality, space, the Macan is really impressive for a fits all needs. If you have a family and still want to drive lively, this is probably the only SUV I would consider. Porsche is truly on its on level. The build quality, driving experience and reliability is tough to match dollar for dollar.
for family of 4 Macan interior is rather small, I would opt for Cayenne instead. I own 2020 Macan and it is a lovely ski car for me but I am mostly alone or have one passenger. I once had 3 adults total in this car on a weekend ski trip, it was barely doable and we managed to pull it off only because the other 2 didn't bring their own equipment.
@@olasek7972 I think a young family starting out would be alright. If the kids are under 5 or something. But yeah, adults would definitely need something bigger
There’s so much to this that’s fascinating. I’d love to have a sporty EV. In my other comment, I noted that I’d been driving my Boxster in the Tetons. 22 hrs from home. I couldn’t bring this EV Macan out here. So much is perspectives, it seems, on this road trip. I’d have one in a heartbeat, but could I take an adventure in it? Do I need to? Idk. I’ve done a ton of driving lately in my combustion cars, that made me wish I had an EV. I can’t wait for your R2 video when it comes. ICE cars fit into every realm of life better right now. It’s the infrastructure problem. That’s the hump. When we get over that, all’s well.
Can you turn off the carefully curated fake acceleration noise? It's Porsche - if I recall they upcharge for adding different sounds. Perhaps I can get the $700 "silent sound acceleration" option?
Current ‘21 Macan owner (just a base 4 cyl.) I hesitate to say an EV would be my next vehicle due to charging infrastructure issues. I could probably get away with just charging overnight at home 90% of the time, but would still be concerned with the potential inconvenience of inconsistent charging experiences. That said, I like this new Macan EV and would certainly consider if they weren’t asking such a premium over the current ICE version.
A fantastic car! In my opinion it fully lives up to the previous generation and then some! I personally drove it in Portugal during a internal training with Porsche.
Honestly, if it were called the Macan EV, and that was the thumbnail title, I would not have even clicked the video. I guess that's why Porsche calls it the "Turbo" instead.
Get the f*** over the naming! Do you really think a Chevy trailblazer is out there blazing trails or the Toyota highlander has something to do with the highlands? How can someone be so stupid to still not grasp this is just another word for very fast. Comon dude
Ya? And? The output of your horseless carriage's engine is still measured in horsepower isn't it? Words mean what we make them mean. And anyone who's ever played an N64 knows "turbo" can just as easily mean "faster". 🙄
He talks about it briefly I believe calling it a mess? I own an i5N and really would like them to review and explain what they mean, because I haven't heard a single bad word about it really.
I think that's the plan. Let the early adopters take the financial hit on these first generation EVs. Next generation will be better in every way possible though, so the money will move on quickly to the next new thing.
Awesome to see Porsche being Porsche and engineering the shit out of an EV. The one thing I hate about Tesla, decent EV, but not fun to drive. The Lucid is the only other that is close to fun driving. Great review guys!!! Hoping more EVs go this route for EVs.
until they can solve the problem with battery degradation or have a method to affordably change the battery in the future, I don't think EVs are going to do very well.
@@computercrackbecause lithium batteries have an accepted shelf life of 12 years. At that point they are down to 86% of their original capacity under ideal use conditions and the degradation accelerates significantly. When you have to replace the battery at 12-15 years and the cost is so great that it mechanically totals the car it means the car is going to depreciate to $0 after 15 years, that level of depreciation is cost prohibitive to most people.
@@flacjacket That's not true unfortunately. These batteries have lots of overprovisioning and a topnotch BMS. 20 years plus will be no issue and the car will still be usable, even with like 80% of the original capacity. that's still very decent range

Thank you for your reviews as i am a huge fan. But can you guys be the first to also talk about the plastic off gasing in the car itself, I had my older model macan being looked at under warranty still and had a loan car for 10 days. The off gasing in the car ( Kia Sorento) was so bad i had to have 2 windows down as i was feeling quite ill from it. I feel it comes down to the materials used and the vehicle age of course. One last thing for me is more about wind noise test on the same road each time and db reading in the cabin would be great. ( yes tyre pressure/ wear and make is a factor) We have some horrific roads here in Queensland Australia. Thanks for taking the time to read this.
Whats the point of sports cars now. These new superSUVs can drive as hard and have 10x the usability as a 2 seater. I'd say sports cars are now evolving into 'modern classics' purchases. So you get a 718 Spyder just for the vibe, the looks, the sound and some fun. But the performance is now... demonstrably... secondary. This makes a huge question of what Porsche will need to do to keep adding to that 'fun factor.' beyond just NA engines. My vote -- MAKE BEAUTIFUL CONVERTIBLES AGAIN, top up and down great looks, like the Portofino. It's all about looks and vibes now, make a no beauty comprise generation of Cabs. The 911cabs are UGLY AF -- time to fix that.
Not happy that the Cayman and Boxster are going to be EV's very soon, but at least this gives us a glimmer of hope that they will be excellent to drive.....if you can get past the lack of exhaust note
I'm not excited at all for EV Cayman and Boxster. The design is all wrong, it's the same design language as this new Macan and Taycan. Plus, as the folks above me mentioned, they're gonna be way too heavy (probably at least 1000lbs+ heavier than the 718's and 981's), no transmissions to speak of, no induction noise, the handling will presumably be good, but far from the Cayman we've come to know and love, and again, it's just not a very good design, in my opinion. I just saw some pics of the Boxster and it prompted an immediate groan, it barely looks like a Porsche. I haven't seen the EV Cayman design yet, but obviously, it's gonna look like the new Boxster with a roof. Can only hope Andy Preuninger is still pushing to do GT versions with ICE engines, but I doubt it'll happen. I'm hoping the sales are so poor that they'll *have* to bring back an ICE Cayman. Sure, I guess they could keep the EV version around for the few people who might actually want one, but I feel like an EV Cayman is a serious mistake. Cayman drivers are generally not the kind of people who are interested in EVs. An EV Macan is fine, I suppose, but current-day EV tech being forced into Porsche's smallest sports cars? No no no. Even with it being Porsche's engineering, I don't really think it'll make a difference. I just can't find the appeal in an EV Cayman, it's kind of an oxymoron of a car. Take a light, mid-engine sports car and turn it into yet another EV that nobody *really* wants... why is this the reality we're being forced to deal with? Makes the future of all cars seem very bleak. I would honestly rather they kill off the Cayman/Boxster and keep the 911's as their one, true sports car, IF going electric is the only way they can keep the Caymans around.
@@doggodproductions2259 The whole reason Porsche is going EV with the mainstream models is so they can generate enough credits to keep the 911 as an ICE vehicle. In the end, they may have no choice but to either bring back an ICE version of the Boxster/Cayman , or cease production altogether if sales are too low. I guess time will tell.
@@andyg9991 Oh for sure, no argument there. I know they're only doing it to keep the 911 around longer, but I mean, even they are going to be hybrids now (at least, we know the non-GT 911's will be hybrids). With the Macan going full EV (with 1 or 2 ICE variants), Cayman/Boxster full EV, Taycan, etc., you'd think Porsche would already have more than enough EV credits by now, but I'm not 100% sure of how those credits work. I would've thought by making the Cayman/Boxster EV-only, they would have more than enough of those credits to at least keep the 911 ICE-only. I just keep thinking about how heavy all these new hybrid 911's will be, so we're still losing something there. You are certainly right, though, only time will tell what ends up happening with the Cayman and Boxster. It seems like they're shooting themselves in the foot by going full EV with those, and styling them like their full EV's, but maybe they've got an ICE version on the back burner in case they need to shift back. Who knows lol.
Other than the frunk, ICE Macan had the same space inside: it had two cup holders, holders in the door, etc. CR-V has more space. I don’t see massive improvements in this sense in an electric Macan.
It comforting that in @ ten years most of the companies will be mass-producing cars like this. If it was 80,000 $ cheaper and even half as powerful I would buy it in a heartbeat! There is no doubt, Porsche makes the best cars and soft SUV out there
Car is not a cellphone, they are not supposed to design like cellphones, we are not going to dispose a car like cellphone often. Be financially and environmentally wise.
The wheelbase grew by 3.4 inches?! 113.9" is essentially the same as the Cayenne's at 114"... While 114" is small compared to the rest of the midsize segment at around 117", the Macan is not so light and agile anymore. X3M40i is now smaller and has the B58.
Porsche has always focused on getting in starting car, setting hvac, setting radion putting into gear and driving. Something that can be appreciated when some makes love to make that whole operation a puzzle to be solved.
Nice car, I’ll continue to enjoy my diesel Cayenne that refuels in five minutes and can go 700 miles. This Macan would be an amazing short trip machine. Looks to be very well done.
Lmao. So many ignorant people these days. The Macan has a range of 350 miles - how the hell you figure a 350 drive is a “short trip”? And when you ever driving 700 miles one way? Get serious. Not to mention the Macan can add over 200 miles of range in 15-20 minutes.
Great video! One comment on the graphic at 1:22, 210/200 are diameter and active length in mm. I wondered if those numbers are kw output, but no. Both the Macan 4 and the Turbo model come with a 175 kW (peak) front motor, but differ at the rear axle. The Macan 4 is equipped with 280 kW (peak) and the Turbo with 470 kW (peak), which is crazy, because of the max. output of 480kW of the battery pack.
There's plenty of rough roads to be found in Europe and plenty of well surfaced roads in America. This is one of those grass is greener misconceptions.
@@savagegeese Anecdotal evidence can lead to generalizations like this for all of us. In my experience, they have problems with pot holes, too. I think it comes down to how long ago the roads were resurfaced and how many seasonal issues they have with ice and other environmental factors in a particular region.
Great review as usual. The lack of one-pedal driving as even an option is close to a fatal flaw in Porsche’s BEVs - huge mistake … In Porsche ICEVs, you have paddle shifters to down-shift when going down steep inclines or are in stop-and-go traffic where it’s tiresome to always be pressing the brake pedal… that is why you want one-pedal driving at least as an option in BEVs…. I guarantee you that if Porsche offered one-pedal driving as an option, most owners would have it on all the time
They should make it optional … one-pedal driving is superb in stop-and-go traffic and on steep inclines where you have to break a lot…. It’s important to have in a BEV because you don’t have paddle shifters like you do in an ICEV to slow down without braking
@panameradan6860 agree one-pedal is amazing in a BEV and now my inclination 95% of the drive time. Happy to have the option for the 5% stomp on the brake!

Beautiful cinematography and storytelling as always. Are you guys using an ND filter with your drones? The footage looks a bit jumpy.
This makes me excited for the EV Boxster.
Finally Mark is back!!!
My friends mom just ordered a triple purple spec 4. She’s so pumped
Exceptional review! WOW, Porsche!
Can you turn off the carefully curated fake acceleration noise? It's Porsche - if I recall they upcharge for adding different sounds. Perhaps I can get the $700 "silent sound acceleration" option?
You can turn it off in the head unit
I love that sound. Even if it's fake.
Hilariously improper use of the word.
The thumbnail says “MACAN ev”
The title says Macan Turbo.
@@the_Scarlet_one The title says Turbo.
TURBO, Turbo, turbo! Click here.
Putting the turbo badge on an EV car is just hilarious. It seems Porsche could turbocharged an electric motor😂
Get the f*** over the naming! Do you really think a Chevy trailblazer is out there blazing trails or the Toyota highlander has something to do with the highlands? How can someone be so stupid to still not grasp this is just another word for very fast. Comon dude
Very bizarre
Ya? And? The output of your horseless carriage's engine is still measured in horsepower isn't it? Words mean what we make them mean. And anyone who's ever played an N64 knows "turbo" can just as easily mean "faster". 🙄
Historical reasons.
Its about the segment/claas placement, not tech.
I dont see nothing unusual about it anymore, bc im from 2024.

5N is ugly asf. Looks like a teenage boy wanna be racer car.
I’m so sorry I missed this earlier! Been driving my ‘02 Boxster around the Tetons! Glad to be here now!
I look forward to getting behind these going 5 MPH under the speed limit on the way to the county club.
I think it's a lovely vehicle. Excellent job by Porsche.
Just wait for a couple years and get it for half the price. It’ll be a killer deal
Used car market is going to be good to us : ) these will drop like a rock.
I think that's the plan. Let the early adopters take the financial hit on these first generation EVs. Next generation will be better in every way possible though, so the money will move on quickly to the next new thing.

so do I but I wish them luck, I think EVs are good for us who drive ICE, less pressure on gas prices plus less pressure from the top to adopt EV.
Which madman authorised Mark's Visa? 😆
Great video guys!
Hard to believe they have the best people in world designing this car when it lacks a one pedal drive mode.
I have a 23 Macan S with the 2.9L engine and absolutely love it! Not a fan of electric vehicles but this does seem compelling
Awesome to see Porsche being Porsche and engineering the shit out of an EV. The one thing I hate about Tesla, decent EV, but not fun to drive. The Lucid is the only other that is close to fun driving. Great review guys!!! Hoping more EVs go this route for EVs.
The Taycan is much more fun to drive than is the Lucid
I gotta say I like this a lot! From powertrain, to aesthetics, to interior. My only complaint honestly is the lack of regen/one pedal driving 😞
The cost of the battery alone will bring tears to a glass eye.
until they can solve the problem with battery degradation or have a method to affordably change the battery in the future, I don't think EVs are going to do very well.
Why would you want to buy only the battery? You need the whole car don't you?
@@computercrackbecause lithium batteries have an accepted shelf life of 12 years. At that point they are down to 86% of their original capacity under ideal use conditions and the degradation accelerates significantly. When you have to replace the battery at 12-15 years and the cost is so great that it mechanically totals the car it means the car is going to depreciate to $0 after 15 years, that level of depreciation is cost prohibitive to most people.
Wouldn't be surprised if it was $40-50k for this car
@@flacjacket That's not true unfortunately. These batteries have lots of overprovisioning and a topnotch BMS. 20 years plus will be no issue and the car will still be usable, even with like 80% of the original capacity. that's still very decent range
I just want to say that I really enjoyed this video
And yet, doing Cayman EV only is a huge mistake. Even if it gets a better suspension.
Just like Porsche, looks like Lucid is slowly becoming a benchmark for EVs. #Jack and #Mark constantly referenced Lucid in their commentary.
That’s a really nice golf cart.

Perfect timing, just as several EV manufacturers are slowing down EV production, due to lack of demand!
Lower demand. Lack of demand would mean zero sales.
10:23 he meant to say 11 Kilowatts and not 11 Kilowatt Hours. If it only accepted 11 kWh of energy through home charging that would be unusable. Thankfully the limit is actually 11 KW which is typical for a lot of EVs in the US.
Well the limit increased further in some parts of the USA tho.
@@purwantiallan5089 not sure what you are referring to. He said kWh when what he should have said is KW. Those are two different things. There is no such thing as an “11 kWh limit”.
Yeah most home wiring has an absolute max of 1500W, running at 1100W is about all you want without burning your house down 😂
The one day I wake up at 4am and this is here to greet me 🙏
Starts at $80K? Hell no. The old Macan started around $60K; mine cost $69K with a few options.
Inflation rate included?
@@jareknowak8712inflation rate included? Porsche is still selling the ICE Macan starting at around 60k…..
Old base Macan comes with a 4 banger out of a GTI, not an apples to apples comparison.
Same here. I love my ICE Macan but I would not pay $20K more for an EV Macan.
@@future62 Correct. My Macan will go 450 miles between stops and re-fills in 5 minutes. I take road trips in my car; an EV is painful for roadtrips.
Best Porsche macan review 🔥🔥
Not happy that the Cayman and Boxster are going to be EV's very soon, but at least this gives us a glimmer of hope that they will be excellent to drive.....if you can get past the lack of exhaust note
And lack of any transmission interaction...
@@mixwellusa
And the lack of lightness.
First macan that loooks amazing . Crazy how porsche is the only EV maker that makes it feel engaging
It should do all of this, and more for the 6 figure price tag.
The problem is that most of the car do not achive all of this at that price range.
@@marc-andrehudon5511 the list price of a range rover sport p350 is approx £74,000. It achieves all the macans goals.
Other than the frunk, ICE Macan had the same space inside: it had two cup holders, holders in the door, etc. CR-V has more space. I don’t see massive improvements in this sense in an electric Macan.
Front end reminds of Ioniq 6
Nothing like that terribly dull thing.
Wait, so we have crossovers with lower seating positions so that people can sit higher?
The wheelbase grew by 3.4 inches?! 113.9" is essentially the same as the Cayenne's at 114"... While 114" is small compared to the rest of the midsize segment at around 117", the Macan is not so light and agile anymore. X3M40i is now smaller and has the B58.
Porsche has always focused on getting in starting car, setting hvac, setting radion putting into gear and driving. Something that can be appreciated when some makes love to make that whole operation a puzzle to be solved.
So glad I took delivery of a 2024 S

Nice car, I’ll continue to enjoy my diesel Cayenne that refuels in five minutes and can go 700 miles. This Macan would be an amazing short trip machine. Looks to be very well done.
Lmao. So many ignorant people these days. The Macan has a range of 350 miles - how the hell you figure a 350 drive is a “short trip”?
And when you ever driving 700 miles one way? Get serious. Not to mention the Macan can add over 200 miles of range in 15-20 minutes.
Easy there buddy. 350 miles is great, but, I need to tow things sometimes. I’m not ignorant, I’ve built EV’s as an engineer.
So glad Mark could join for one of these
Ioniq 5n next? Would like to see how it measures against this.
On the roads we drove they were glass compared to ours. (Small sample size)
I guarantee you that if Porsche offered one-pedal driving as an option, most owners would have it on all the time
Convincing VAG to embrace one pedal driving might take a while. They've decided it diminishes "driver control" and simply aren't going there.
Driving a performance EV is like being intimate with a beautiful cadaver.
Dude this car is gorgeous.. wow! Love the new headlight design. Just wish it had a v8. But porsche keeps handling in their EVs very well.
Am I the only one who hates one pedal driving? I LOVE being able to step on the break pedal. Good job Porsche for keeping it classic!
