    Stick with the spoon hood. It's "period correct" which is the reason this build started in the first place.

      yeah but it's ugly

      Joseph to some. Those of us who grew up with these cars might like it more. I think it looks cool.

      Mr. Jap Slap360 definitely ERA correct. Leave it carbon!

    • @jamespeters11603
      @jamespeters11603 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The problem is, this hood is not period correct. You could see through the original spoon hoods, they were much thinner and lighter. Pretty desirable and more expensive than the new one Matt got, you can still order these from spoon.

      In not sure if I'm weird or something but I love the look of CF parts on cars, it almost gives the color scheme more contrast, makes it look more diverse and the CF pattern makes it look tough IMO. It shouldn't just be a thing of the past.

    Leave it carbon my little Honda bro lol. Looks good with the CTR lights and the OE fogs. CF Spoon mirrors would set it off. Btw, I've had this car since 99, you and I are about the same age, so I'm biased to this look lol. HIN baby!

    Scuff it with gray scotchbrite and scuff paste...and put 2 coats of Sikkens Clearcoat. It will fill the scratches and give the resin a super nice layer of UV PROTECTION.
    I am a professional Auto refinisher, and do this to all of my personal Carbon Fiber sport bike peices.

    Could always have a trusted paint shop sand the gelcoat flat and have it cleared! That gelcoat regardless of its supposed “UV-resistance” isn’t gonna last in the sun, so it’d be a good idea regardless. Then painting the front clip wouldn’t be necessary.

    Optimum Clear Coat Restorer would have been a good option for this good, wet sand with 3000 grit, compound, then apply OCCR. Use it on my CF parts to help provide additional UV protection to the resin and improve cosmetics. Once that stuff dries it almost as hard as a traditional clear coat.

  • @EkoRomania
    @EkoRomania 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hello,you can sand it and apply another layer of clear coat,it will not improve the fit but it will improve the finish.Very excited about this build too😁

    I think everything eventually fades to art. These mods are quality mods and those will always time stamp the car well in automotive history. People look at an old Datsun with watanabes for example, and just get that wholesome nostalgia. I'm here for this build and giveaway!!!!

    Don’t listen to the hate Matt!! That’s carbon fiber hood is period correct for the build your trying to accomplish. And it looks sick with the wheels. Also, we all had a CF hood in the 90’s-00’s, just couldn’t afford a spoon one. It being a spoon hood ups the cool points anyways. Can’t wait for the engine swap in this thing.

    CF Hood overnighted straight from Japan - Check.
    Todo:
    1. Nozzzzzz purge
    2. Underglow
    3. JDM car scent in cup holder
    4. Extra shiny scent in vents vents
    5. Plush toys in rear window
    6. Takada green seat belt pillow
    7. Give it away and go drive GT3

    Back when I worked in shop(Late 90s) we use to paint the side of hood where it meets fenders same color as car and clear entire hood keeping center carbon fiber use to look sick.

  • @dino-335
    @dino-335 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Paint sides of hood only to body color ala e46 vorsteiner style? I dunno, I kinda dig it. It’s definitely period correct, that’s for sure. Only reason I suggest to paint sides is to help hide fitment issues and imperfections in the clear.

    Nice to see Spoon products close up. Only hood on the market with a plain weave which is more classy than twill (IMO). Kinda the only option if you already have the mirrors too. Spoon's carbon edges have always looked kinda crumby. Every spoon carbon product I've seen is like this. Even mirrors which were made in 2019 were like that. Just part of their process.

  • @sakalammembrain

    I guess it's time for the spoon cluster gauge? 😍 What do you think honda bros? 😁
    Or a mugen cluster? Since it's spoon on the outside. And you have the mugen seats!

  •  4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I’ll be the first to say I went into this video not liking the hood, after seeing it on the car it’s actually grown on me. Deffinately gives it an edge. Looks less of a family transporter now haha. If the finish really gets to you , just reclear the hood, there is no clear coat failure so it should be a simple scuff and spray job.

    after market hoods never fit "perfect" yours is an example of best case scenario in my opinion. food for thought for people who've never spent 2000+$ bucks on a hood only to have it show up damaged and for it to fit like shit. It MIGHT not be the Mod for everyone.. lol Although i love tasteful / rare after market hoods , always worth the effort! No one else looks close enough to see the jankyness of them anyways haha.. Just something for the owners to be OCD about.

    The cars coming along great, how the hell do you source these parts still as most mugen and spoon parts from this era are not available and if your lucky to find them N.O.Stock time must of caught up with them. The issue I had with JDM spoon parts was they didn’t age well here in the UK winters, to be real most JDM mugen parts were much better out the box than spoon, but Kevlar weave on spoon carbon was worth living with issues.

      @@touringteg places like Amayama and Partsouq still sell a huge amount of OEM parts for this generation car. I own an EK4 (hatch version of this car) and can buy over 90% of the parts for it still. There are just a few small trim items that are discontinued. I would expect the parts availability to reduce over the coming couple of years as more people start to restore these cars.
