A good tool to push the cir clip in with is a popsicle stick. It's the perfect size and since it's made of wood you won't hurt the piston or the clip. You can also buy a bag of them really cheap or just save the used ones after eating a popsicle or ice cream bar. Hope someone finds this useful.
Great as always. Never had a clip come out but did have ring break and somehow parts of the ring ended up on top of the piston and it was a brutal mess. Millennium Technologies was able to salvage my cylinder somehow.
Thanks! Ouch. Thats a bummer. I have seen that happen before but not sure what causes that on a healthy motor. Good thing they was able to repair it. I have a cylinder I need to send out to get re done. I have come to like a replated cylinder more than a OEM plated cylinder. I feel the replated ones hold up longer and tighter.
LoL, thanks. After you do enough it become easier. The harder ones though are some of the 4 strokes that hardly give you enough room between the piston and cases to get the second circlip in. Still do-able but surely tighter.
Great explanation! A while ago I was putting a piston into my 4 stroke and I had watched one of your rebuild videos beforehand. In that video you mentioned walking the clip into position. So I went out to do mine, and was struggling. I didn't realize at the time that you were pushing the clip down into the bore. I was trying to leverage it in with a pick tool, and it was not working! Haha. I got mad and was like.. walk it in?? What does that even mean?? It doesn't work!! Then in my frustration I guess I pushed down on the clip and it started going in.. so I kept it up, and walked it in. lol!! I laughed and finally understood what you were doing. This video shows it much better!! Thanks for sharing your knowledge, you rock!! 🤘
Same 😂. I was rebuilding my 450 for the first time but have done 6-8 85cc top ends and was having more trouble with the 450 one. I was like “how TF is he walking it in!” Eventually got it after some frustration. This vid explains it very well.

Hi, what’s your take on the KTM crisis? Their stock is plummeting like crazy. They are losing billions so apparently the countless reliability issues (camshaft issues) and questionable costumer service, parts supply issues are affecting KTM as a company. Gasgas and Husqvarna as racing teams are done except KTM (RedBull money). Probably not a good time to buy a KTM….
Man I cant say I didnt see it coming at some point. They made too many different brands and too many different colors to choose from. Someone was going to suffer at some point. I think they was hoping it would be the Japanese bikes that did the suffering. The japs are hard to beat when it comes to keeping things alive and not rushing anything. A easy does it approach. KTM got serious in the game and tried kicking the door down lol. I hope the best for all the brands and want all of them to survive and do well though
Woh, crap. Yeah I have seen that happen before. Not on my own bikes but customers. The cheaper pistons are more common with this failure but I have seen OEM ones do it too.
