Couldn't agree more with that closing statement. Nearly everyone I've met in this game is normally in VR instead of spending that time in the real world for a reason. Keep your guard up people, it's hard to find diamonds in a needle stack like VRC.
There are some pretty hurt people on VRC, I'm really lucky to have the friends that I do :)
@theatom8929 me and my girlfriend met in VRC, but it was as friends. It took a while after we had become IRL friends for us to actually develop a romantic relationship. IMO that's how it should be. VRC can help you meet amazing people you would never meet anywhere else, but it is NOT a dating app. If you're patient you're more likely to find an actual good match than if you're actively seeking it. Don't lose hope.
If you have a job, solid social life and normal hobbies, you wouldn't really have the time to build a deep relationship in VRChat anyways. VRChat is nice because it gives everyone who's not normal a way to socialize. But if you are normal, then that might be a turn off.

With VRchat being more social platform than video game, and it’s unique, I desperately want there to be a optional verification system to verify a users age and give them a badge they can have on their account that says so. It would nice to know that something as crucial as that is third party verified

I am very surprised we haven't ran into each other fully on Phia's server cause I'm active there 24/7 XD but still glad to see your video popped up on my feed. I've only been with one person in VRChat which unfortunately recently got broken off cause they lied about not being with anyone else and apparently was dating someone for 7 years. Anyways great video and definitely going to take this video to heart if I ever go back to dating someone in VRChat again.

Tbh, finding friends on Nevermet is much easier than finding a partner there. I am happily taken but the pain in that app was pretty lots. I dont say that its not worth a shot, but it is not worth losing your mind over it. Stay cool fellas, be yourselves and always remember, everyone is good in their own way (or bad even lmao).

This guys closing statement is so on point haha, I think if you're secure and mentally stable an online relationship works fine. I'll start dating someone, but if they get too clingy, I leave. If they lie, I leave. If they seem manipulative, I leave. most of my relationships in vr end within the first month cause, while they were chill as friends or when talking, they just switch up in crazy ways. Like, where is that chill guy I knew when we were talking? all of a sudden I have a manipulative clingy codependent person who is obsessing over me 24/7... oml...
I still date online, but I go into it explaining this is casual and they need to be able to handle me being busy, if they can be chill and handle that then if it lasts longer we can become more serious. If they're the "if you like me you'll make time/Being busy is an excuse" type of partner response then I bail. Yes, I'm busy with work, my studies etc, but I also have a life and am busy cause there are other things I want to do without you around cause I'm still my own person with my own life and if you can't handle that then there's a bigger problem... I'm not here to fill the void in anyone's heart...

I just wanted to come on to say- there's a big community of adults who play rec room (that's actually the club name too: Adults Who Play Rec Room) and use it as a social platform in the same way that many use VRchat or Horizon Worlds. Rec Room has a really neat in-game building system so is a great option for creative types and game designers. Though the avatars are more uniform and simplistic compared to VRC, they're way less glitchy and DIY feeling, so frankly, for non-fbt users, I'm able to pick up way more body language off a Rec Room avatar, you'd be surprised. Most of the adult community doesn't spend too much time in public instances where all the screaming kids are, so I understand it being easy to drop in and get the impression it's all kids on there, but there's a lot more than what meets the eye. Happy to take someone to one of the weekly meetups to get a feel for the side of Rec Room that keeps a lot of us preferring it over other platforms.

Great video! For me, even with Nevermet, i have rules with meeting people. Thankfully there is a verified profiles where people must scan their ID, and face to prove their age. However, not all do, and ones that don't i ask for ID to prove their age. Most are cool with it, some don't. The ones that don't get blocked. Simple as. Just not worth the risk, and so many people just dont do that.
As long as people are staying safe! Makes me happy to know people age check haha
This honestly just makes me wish it was easier to meet stable people online in general. Because the drama that comes with hanging out with a lot of these people from VRC just isn't worth it.
I think there's some really good points that can be taken from this video though so that people don't get themselves into messy relationships on VRC, or anywhere else online really.
a lot of people in vrchat cant spend more than 15 minutes without talking about e-relationships and e-drama. it honestly feels like they're trying to recapture a highschool experience that they never had..except now theyre a grown adult with a box on their head
NAILED IT. I do go to publics, it's where the really interesting stuff is, but If I don't have the patience I'm strictly with people I've already vetted for drama.
I think that app is fishy tbh. I never used dating apps, tried dating some close friends on VR in the past and long story short. Am now happily married to the love of my life whom I met on VRChat by pure chance. It wasn't even love on first sight, although interest was there it wasn't as simple as that.
That said, what I learned is that a lot of people have trust issues and there for only want to commit to poly-shit like relationship or "open relationships" and then go about complaining how their "partner(s)" aren't loyal or don't do enough. Which to me, is just funny.
Isn't the point of a relationship to be with someone that can make you feel safe and complements your flaws and weaknesses while you do the same for them.
Like, so many issues can be resolved by just talking over things. Many choose not to because it can be hard. But don't realize that the moment you stop talking or go to involve someone else in to your relationship is, when everything falls apart. This is why open relationships are nothing but friendship with benefits imo.
I won’t pretend to understand why so many people are in poly relationships, maybe it just isn’t for me but it is interesting just how many relationships in vrc are open.
On a side note: I’m glad to hear another success story from vrc! Maybe one day I’ll put together a little project on vrchat marriages and success stories!
I have had quite a few Nevermet stories some good some bad my longest Nevermet relationship which was 6 months broke me to pieces but then I met someone else who I reconnected with thru Nevermet and I honestly feel like he’s the one ❤

Ive spent many hours perusing the lands of vrchat now [cresting 5300 soon] and have met some of the best people ive ever known. its gotten to the point i wouldnt date someone who couldnt hop in to see my closest friends. the only time i actually gained a partner in vrchat they royally lied to me and after spending a week with them irl they ghosted me. i will say this wasnt someone i had known for months. watch out for those who can mirror your own sentiments back to you to make it look like things are going really well. that said, i know a good few stable folks from my travels, just work on making friends and leave the zipper up folks aha

I met my wife a few years ago in VRchat and we got married recently. Still wouldn't recommend dating on vrc even though we got lucky lol
That ending really sold why I hate VRchat. I've met some great people on it and really do like some the small communities of it but the large mass community that tends to stick to pubs and big maps and movie maps and that kind of stuff are usually either awful or mediocre. From the guys who just relax and talk and just shoot the shit to the insane people who just use VR because their life is fucked because they fucked it up or don't want to fix it so they sit on VR talking about their problems or seeking as many people who can alleviate their problems without having to face the core issue. Themselves. Too many people on VR tend to just be mentally unstable or just beyond narcissistic to the point where it's nearly laughable. The amount of drama people start and the lack of understanding what it means to be social really shows up in spades. It really is a paradise for people who are pretty much useless in everyway shape and form and won't do anything with their life except free load and be a nuisance to everyone they meet because they'll be told by all the unstable people that they aren't the issue because they want to fix each other when in reality they are the problem

What are the results of the survey? I was so looking forward to hearing the stats that came back after analyzing the surveys and interviews you did.
Sample size is relatively small compared to the population of VRC so take it with a grain of salt
Just from the google survey:
52.4% of people who responded are single
42.9% of people who responded met their SO through VRChat
4.8% of people who responded met their SO through an irl dating app (tindr, grindr, etc)
The interview results changed things quite a bit but I don't have those stats anymore as I just wiped my computer a few days ago due to a very bugged windows update:(

Man it’s horrendous, it wasn’t anything AT ALL like what I was expecting. Long story short STAY TF AWAY. I severely underestimated the level of fucked up people are. I get it, your roommate is messy, you’re embarrassed to have someone over. On paper it’s not a bad idea but that was by far my sketchiest experience in dating apps. Biggest red flags were no age verification, everyone’s sexuality was blended so it’s like they don’t care or have no genuine preferences at some point, and the other thing is just with all the vr relationships, how can you tell who they are or wtf they’re really doing half the time? Stay tf away, this video should scream that
my view on this is probably a bit controversial, though it comes from experience, dating someone on this platform (though, we were very much dating outside of it) is like issuing a challenge to certain people as for whatever reason some people LOVE to take the fact you are in one super personally as if it was a dig at them, i've had people who i thought were friends frequently vanish on us and pester my then partner relentlessly for intimacy until it ended with a break-up.
in my current relationship its been much better after distancing myself from those lot, but still, hanging out in VR is sometimes a chore as often people seem to expect these relationships to be open/poly and get upset or bothered when its not the case
Probably my least favorite part of VRChat is how so many people in the community are down bad. When I find wholesome people I keep them close haha

I refuse to date in VRC, because I despise people being constantly on " Ask Me ", as it's very easy to make me overthink and freak out.
To be honest if I notice if someone is on ‘ask me’ more often than they aren’t, I usually end up unfriending them. I feel that overthinking issue, I overthink about it a lot of time and it’s just easier for me if I don’t have them on my friends list haha

They definitely have their ups and down as do all relationships. I'm single and chilling rn though, honestly so much more stress free. i mean... i met my partner of currently 2 years in a murder lobby about a month after i got my first headset. we bonded over just being weird together, showing each other new things, and watching movies together. we talk to each other every day still and we make sure to give each other personal space since we do still have separate friendgroups. i feel like we met pretty organically and never really do the e-couple stuff since we started dating specifically because we like each other, we like our interactions, we have a really good connection with one another.
