my problem over the years with the headsets was always: they are like a skilltree. you have 7 talents to choose from, and each talent has 10 points to max out, but you only have 30 points to spend on all the 7 trees. so there is no perfect build. but then there comes a headset, that can spend 34 in its trees, improves in one talent compared to others very much, yet is still mediocre at all the others, but its on a 400 buck premium because of that.
wouldnt call it a goldon goose. its like complaining about lcd monitors in 2002 not beeing as good as the ones we have today. no monitor today is a golden goose, but even cheap ones are 5x better in everything, compared to 500dollar displays from 2002 @@BonelessVR
AYE I always get annoyed with through the lens footage because it's never accurate. I figured it would be helpful! It sucks that I couldn't get the Aero simulated well but people would have to be watching on some crazy high res monitors to really get an idea of the clarity.
Wish I could've gone more in depth but I didn't want to end up with a 30 minute long video haha. Maybe soon I'll do a video talking just about VR myths and basic setup tips to help people get a long. Got too many people who always ask questions, I really wish all of this stuff was easier to use for everyone!
That E4 reminds me of the Lenovo Explorer, my first headset, it was inside out, wired to PC, very light and you could flip it up too. Very comfortable and it was 150€ on the black friday I bought it.
It would be great to get a headset that has a crazy high refresh rate, high fov, extremely clear image (maybe at least 4k per eye if not 8k per eye), no fernel lens effects, both optional stand alone and PC cable connected (easily pops out incase someone trips over cable), a flip-up front optics (flip up front part), adjustable for dramatic eye apart or closeness widths, easy to adjust on the head (push, pull, tighten head set to fit head length with no cables rubbing or grinding), adustable for glasses, feels comfortable on the head, not too heavy, not too much light leak, comfortable around the nose area (allows you to move your nose around and see through nose area) comfortable top strap, comfortable to sleep with, easy clean detachable and strong facal fabric, optional plug-inable headphones along with standard issue headphones (good and durable headphones like the valve-index), flip-up headphones (flip it away from your ear easily; durable enough to lay and sleep on it; comfortable enough to sleep in VR with it), a clear mic (like the valve index mic), fully compatible with face tracking (eye, mouth, and tongue tracking accuracy), doesn't spy on you, compatable with valve-index controllers, compatable with valve wands, compatable with 2.0 base stations (no third party software), compatable with vive trackers (all 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0 trackers), compatable with haptic feedback suit and tredmills, affordable (within $1000), has a good product support service team, video tutorials for product setup, well tested for durability and quality (with goal to make one headset to rule them all), a feedback form, easy to set up devices guide (calibrates and configures quickly), has menus to fully configure and customize controller button layouts, has a button on the headset (for sleep, awaken, and power; also an additional functions button which is configurable to any function or controller button a user wants), comes with cool stickers, has an excellent box and unboxing experience, and is widely used by users due to a great and excellent marketing team. That's what I want and I'm willing to pay for.
I recently pre-ordered the Beyond and I'm really looking forward to it. Was a toss-up between that, and the Aero, but I decided on the Beyond because of comfort (Index hurts my head, too heavy and bulky), and the built in mic (which is extremely good!). I've heard basically everyone rave about it and though it obviously has downsides, as every headset does, the benefits of the comfortability far outweighs it for most it seems.
@@BonelessVR Also I really like your videos! Recently discovered you and you kept popping up in my recommended, I like the topics you cover, definitely will subscribe and keep an eye out for future uploads! Hope you get some traction to on this platform, you deserve it
The DPVR company is a Chinese company and has their products MADE IN CHINA (not that I have a probem with that, as I am Chinese myself, but Chinese products from Chinese companies for non-enterprize uses and/or high-end basically mean 2 things: 1. either good software or okay software; 2. cheap but overall not too optimised product, with exception of HuaWei's phones and my mother's company's products), and in DPVR's newest ad, they say it "is a budget option for those who want a Apple Vision Pro", also the ads that they put out in China are cringewothy asf, aand their sponsorships that they give to content creators in China (usually unexperienced with VR) also describe it as something that "can be used to watch 4k movies" instead of a VR ready headset. So I personally won't buy anything from them unless they put out a very high end headset that competes with either the pimax crystal or varjo.
As a proud Vive Eye Pro owner I'll say I shouldn't've payed what I did and I've yet to get eye tracking to work properly. I blame the model I use. Do I regret buying a full body kit? No. Is it worth the money I spent? No. I don't use it nearly enough. Would I do the months of saving again? Yes. And I guess I'll just throw this on the end, in an edit. You did ask. I bought a Varjo Aero and now my wife is going to kill me.
I have such a love hate relationship with Vive at this point haha Vive pro 2 was such a down turn moment for them and I hate to say it Thank you for watching and I hope to see you around more!
Thank you a lot for helping choose my headset, I've been struggling with all of the overwhelming choices but the E4 looks like it's the one for me, so thanks a bunch!
Might wanna get your hands on a Quest 3 homie :3 The only reason I didn't cover it in this video was because there weren't any confirmations direct from meta about it but I'm fighting the urge to not buy one haha
On paper it would. For elite + battery, Personally i'm gonna wait first till I try the headset and see afterwards. Thirdparty accessories will come out sooner than later and they'll be cheaper so that's another thing to consider
Varjo Aero is still extremely expensive considering the fact that you still need to buy about $1000 worth of base stations and controllers. So no, it didn't really get harder. Pico 5's specs have been leaked. If true and if the screens have some nice contrast this time around, this will probably end up being the main choice for PC VR in general.
I don't think Varjos target audience is people who are brand new to VR. The people buying them likely already have index controllers and base stations. If buying brand new, it would come out to around $1650 total for an Aero, 2 2.0 basestations, and a pair of index controllers. I am so excited for newest Picos! I cant wait to see what the Pico 5 Max or whatever the heck is!
About 2 years from now, Meta will likely have a Quest Pro 2 available. And since Virtual Desktop just announced their newest beta added face tracking and AV1 10-Bit encoding it will be a darn attractive headset. Definitely going to save up to buy it.
It's worth the wait, even for the Quest 3. I didn't want to get into speculation in the video but I'm free to do it in the comments so: Save your money and wait because shit is about to get wild
@xlrbossshorts I bought bearly all early headsets since dk2 got burned out, now grabbing quest 3 after skipping stuff since rift s. Waiting for the shipment to show up...hopefully it was worth it
THANK YOU for talking about the Varjo Aero not supporting AMD cards. It's a stupid artificial roadblock that Varjo added because they're too lazy to use anything but CUDA for their upscaling. It's important to note this because this is an Varjo issue and not an AMD issue. Varjo could probably port their code to ROCm pretty easily, but they likely do not care.
Future video deep diving into the Aero and more specifically the lack of updates from the dev team inbound I can't tell if they don't push updates because they do a ton of testing or because they are lazy but at the end of the day we end up not getting and updates. Foveated rendering on VRChat and many other games also require a community patch that uses Pimax's libraries out of all things lmao There is a patch to fix the red shift/chromatic aberration that allows you to tweak a setting, it's been out for a while but Varjo just won't add it directly into Varjo Base so that you can just use a slider to fix the issue with red shift Just some really goofy things that maybe Varjo is getting too much slack for
Congrats on the sponsor!!! :3 I am holding out against hope (read: severe copium) that the Deckard has SLAM tracking, pancake lenses, wide FOV compared to the Quest 2 (my current headset) and is even half way to the size of a Bigscreen Beyond! I really dont want to get in to the Lighthouse ecosystem (in fact my partner has straight up said they don't want me to) because we rent together in shared accommodation with other people so very little space to ourselves and our bedroom is shared living space between the two of us and also my VR space which is honestly not ideal. I sleep pretty often in VRC because of having friends on the other side of the world so super late night movie sessions where I fall asleep (I am ahead of most of them in timezone) and then get a 'good morning sleepy head' are pretty common and that is why the Beyond would be my ideal headset apart from the FOV and it needing base stations (and then base station tracked controllers..). So size and comfort for sleep are another huge consideration for me but the lack of SLAM/inside out tracking is a huge killer for me. I really want to upgrade my headset. My Quest 2 has been amazing for the price. But being an almost daily VRC user with FBT and needing comfort.. I can see all the flaws with it for my use case and I have just... outgrown it as a VRC degen now and need something more to my needs but currently there isnt anything for me. I am super excited to see what comes out this year. Great video as usual!!
YOOOOOOOOO deckard is going to be insane. Idk if It can possibly manage to be the size of a Beyond but Valve is known to pull some crazy stuff. Deckard is pretty much confirmed right now to be standalone capable with internal tracking based on datamines, hopefully with the option for lighthouse but I can't find any confirmation on that. If you're a VRC sleeper, have you tried out OyasumiVR yet? It's a plugin that gives you a bunch of features in VRC (not violating EAC) to make sleeping more comfortable, give it a try! I will be this weekend! Quest 2 is still such a solid choice but I could see easily getting tired of it at this point. I do have a friend who uses a quest pro with Haritora, after modifying the settings for the Haritora, he has managed to get such accurate tracking that I couldn't tell it wasn't base stations. Worth looking into!
Well that is so good to hear, I had somehow missed all of that info as I stopped seeing Deckard content on my recommended videos lol. But if it IS at least standalone tracked and then pancakes and just smaller than my Quest 2 (Bigscreen have really set the bar for what is possible with a PCVR headset) then I think that is definitely something I am interested in! Thank you for the info on OyasumiVR tho! I actually had not heard of this before so will definitely look in to it! I have followed Haritora on and off for a while but once I settled on SlimeVR I think I just went all in down the rabbithole there and have been loving how much it has changed since I started using my DIY trackers! I might go check out how much it has changed!@@BonelessVR
I have a quest 2 because my computer doesn't have a great gpu, and it feels like a lot of work to upgrade it on top of getting a new headset. I don't think I'll easily change to a different one because I don't want to repurchase software I bought from the quest store, on top of the upgrade and the headset itself.
Quest 3 is shaping up to be a great upgrade even without changing your PC hardware. Quest 2, even with all of the options I have for other headsets, I will always love using. It's just so solid.
@BonelessVR I'm excited for quest 3. Not only is it quite the upgrade, but I can lend my quest 2 to my family and watch movies on apps like BigScreen as if we still live in the same house.
I use a Kuject cable, have modified settings, but it was important in this video to talk about the out of box experience rather than trying to help competitors along. I could've changed settings to make the E4's colors better, make the sound better, etc, but I'd prefer out of the box experiences rather than 'hey if you put extra time into this it'll be better.' Still though, changing stuff in the debug menu is worth it. Massive, massive difference. On the rare occasion that I use the Quest 2, I do use modified settings, but again, out of the box experience is what's important here
Facts. Quest 2 slaps, Vive slaps, the best VR headset to get is the one that you can afford. I'll never be someone who pricewalls VR, giving away a headset every chance I get. More details soon.
DPVR has history with shady advertising. A flight sim TH-camr did a review on the E4, and it was very clear that DPVR employees in the comments (pretending not to be employees) gave positive reviews on it. That isn't a company people should be supporting.
@@roboteen the only reason Meta is so popular is because they are doing really well at a fair price. They wouldn't build a monopoly if literally any other company stepped in, and made a decent headset at 499. Supporting a company that does both false advertising, and makes fake reviews (which I'm pretty sure would even be illegal in some countries). This is not saying meta is a good company
What if you had to choose between fresnel and display port vs pancake and usb with better resolution? Quest 3 looks to have the best lenses and res for it's price range. Yet it has no DP and it sounds like people really hate compression over usb/wifi.
Soooo I was going to cover the Quest 3 a bit but the most important thing has yet to be confirmed. There's a chance that they are going to be using a new form of compression, but I really don't like to venture into speculation in videos too much. Even if it doesn't use a better compression technique, the Quest 3 will be a great choice for the price. Those lenses are super nice.
Next video will be specifically on the Aero and comparing it somewhat to the Beyond, everyone in the market with an AMD card can only go for the Beyond, and from what I've heard from people much smarter than me, there isn't much of a reason why Varjo can't add support for at least the newest generation of AMD cards that support AV1. Varjo get's too much slack on quite a lot of things. I'll have to confirm this 100% before the video goes out, but they have been 'working' on some software fixes for red shift and distortion for way too long without any of it actually making it into their native software. A bunch of people in my Discord got them as soon as the price dropped, 2 of them have received theirs and I've had to help them set them up because they keep running into weird software issues.
It's a banger. After I made a video talking about my issues with vr fps games, like 100 people recommended me Vertigo 2, going to be going through the first soon. So much fun!
@@BonelessVR I'm playing through Remastered at the moment, and it's one of the better titles. Hard to believe it's developed by one guy. Quite the talent.
Giggling-inducing commentary, with a solid VR understanding. You just got a subscriber. I'm an old Vive bro, B&S Star wars, and Boneworks Spiderman - I live where youuur buddys at. Mormon Land, tho alot of them are drinking these days. WE GOT NERDS IN THE MOUNTAINS!!
GOD DANG MAMANS Glad to see another OG Vive Gigachad, even though it's showing it's age I still get the same joy looking at it as they day I bought it, before vrchat completely fucked my understanding of reality lmao
@@BonelessVR it was and is a champ. Sold my vive to my buddy few years back. Been rockin the rift S with its 0 patches and support it got. Having a hard time being patient for Project Deckard or deciding on another good hmd.
Hi, so having a AMD GPU and CPU, what headset would you recommend for PCVR? I'm using the Pico 4 right now but feels like it is not as clear as advertised or other people say it is. I've tried all sorts of troubleshooting but gameplay always seems alot blurrier than the sharp and crisp UI elements of the native Pico apps.
idk if you owned an index but im actually curious about why you didnt include it seeing as people say its still the best headset for the price (integration, displays, microphones, headphones, controllers, base stations)
As someone who uses the Vive Pro, I agree with the need for flip up being on more headsets. That being said, I'm likely getting a bigscreen beyond at some point which makes stuff like that much less of an issue in the first place.
„The flip-up feature is something i need to see more of” Bro, 4-5 WMR Headset used it in 2018 and earlier. It sure is nice, but after some time the hinge become so loose that the front part can’t stay on your face when crouching. It’s super annoying.
I have the vive cosmos elite, and for 800$ for 2 stations, 2 controllers, and a headset with the flip up feature. For a first headset, its been great, only complaint is software, and there has been a few times where the cable has been fucky. If other companies are going to do flip up headsets, they are going to need to move the main headset connector to the strap, so when you flip it up, it doesn’t put strain on the connection of their 80$ cable to your 500$ vr headset.
Congrats for the sponsorship! I'm really happy for ya! Great video once again, I really really appreciate your honesty when reviewing this stuff despite the sponsorship 😆👍
Oh and also- maybe it's just me, but this is the first time I've seen your IRL face, and you _Somehow_ looks/feels *A LOT* like your VR Chat Avatar, I can't put my finger on it but in terms of the vibes and the overall aura it really do feels like I'm looking at the same person whenever you switch the POV, and I can't say this to every VR youtubers out there, so that's definitely interesting Haha (≧▽≦) (for example ThrillSeeker is also one of the VR content creators that have the same overall vibe between IRL and his female avatar)
Thrills avatar is so sick. I'm glad my vibes match ahah. I had someone in a previous video accuse me of 'hopping on the cute train' to try and get views or smth. My brother in christ, I use the avatar because It's funny and photoscanning myself into VRC would be so cursed lmao I appreciate your support, thank you for watching homie
quest 2 and 3 are great for people who don't want to buy a vr computer or just play simple games on a laptop or are in school and cant afford a headset and a PC to run the headset because the quest 2 and 3 are standalone its perfect for new vr players and can be used with a PC later on anyways with virtual desktop or the built in method
Quest 2 and 3 are my biggest recommendations right now. Quest 2's are so so so cheap barely used these days and the Quest 3 is just such a great improvement
if youre using a cable, you can go into oculus debug tool and change the bitrate to 500mbps or higher. past that the compression isnt noticable in most cases
Honestly enjoyed the review of the sponsor. Usually really critical of youtubers and the bias around sponsor products when making lists like this but the balance of pros and cons made me feel like you take the reviewer side of it seriously- great vid man good job!
I really appreciate it! The next video I have planned is an honest opinion on the Aero. There's just a lot of things that I feel Varjo get's cut a lot of slack for, like how the head strap likes to rip out hair sometimes and now two people in my circle bought them new and they both had very different but very annoying issues setting them up. I'm always open to pointers and critiques. Imma keep the honesty coming! When DPVR originally sent me their request, I showed everyone in the VC their emails and promo material, I honestly though the thing was going to be a piece of hot Chinese garbage. Like I almost didn't even want to participate. But it was a pleasant surprise with how nice everything felt with it. It's a shame that the Quest 3 is going to set a new standard for that entire price range, this headset would've been a decent deal in a world without $1000 Aero's and the Quest 3 being such a great deal
@@BonelessVR I was looking into the aero recently so I will absolutely watch it! And once again love the honesty. I was surprised by the DPVR headset and how well it kept up with the rest of them. Honestly the flip up ability it has is such a little thing but I feel like that’s so useful. Kinda something id like to see other headsets give some props to, even with the push for passthrough😅 Excited to see your future videos bro I’ll absolutely keep up!
The DPVR e4 is a fantastic stopgap for the missing windows mixed reality headsets. However, it should be less than a 128gb quest 2 at this point. If they dropped the price to $289 USD, I would probably buy three.
Correct. The market changed so fast with the price drop of the Aero and now the Quest 3 is around the corner about to set an entirely new standard for entry level VR.
"If none of these headsets tickle your fancy it might be best to wait" Problem is I like almost all of them but don't wanna buy an Aero just to have the Valve Deckard or whatever come out a few months later for preorder lol. I'll probably look into getting a base station tracked rig soon, I have a Quest 2 and it's definitely not my fav due to clarity being ehhhhh
Compression just doesn't bother me lol. I rarely notice it with Virtual Desktop, and for me, it's worth it for wireless pcvr. Also, I bought a Varjo Aero and now my wife is gonna kill me.
I actually did get to try a Varjo Aero. I visited that Sandbox VR place and they were using them. I really liked the clarity. So far I've tried Quest 2, Varjo Aero, Quest 1, Oculus Go, Index, and Vive Pro 2. I'd personally continue to use my Quest 2 for normal use since I don't play extremely often.
Yo sandbox has some locations around me and I really want to go but they won't just let me rent an experience alone haha After optimizing with the debug settings, the compression is so much more minimal. Honestly seeing how good the Quest 2 can be if Meta would just put some more effort into their link software, it makes me feel like a bit of a fool for getting an Aero. Quest 2 is still 100% perfect for like 99% of people
I've only had the opportunity to try proper VR headsets (i.e. not holders for your phone) twice. The first time was in the early nineties when you could go to an arcade and play that VR shooter in which eventually a pterodactyl would swoop down and carry you off, and that was incredible despite having only like four polygons for the whole game. The second time was when the HTC Vive first came out and you could demo it at Microsoft stores. I played a game in which you have a cartoony castle and have to defend it with a bow and arrows against paper cutout men. It was a life-changing experience. Despite being cartoony, it felt like I was really there. I could even aim my bow for real because it was three dimensional like a physical object in real life. Imagine a game in which you visit your favourite city as it was a century ago and it feels like you're really there. Or how about a game that shows you what it's like to be able to fly? That twenty minute demo completely blew my mind and I still fondly tell people about it ten years later. I have not had a chance to use a VR headset since then because they are really expensive and there are no places you can go to try one out or rent it. I long for the opportunity to get a headset of my own and now that they've become significantly better than a Vive, which already felt real and affected me deeply, I can only imagine how incredible the experience must be.
YOOO THAT'S AWESOME THAT YOU GOT A SPONSORSHIP! CONGRATZ! This was a very solid review, bruh. Complete transparency and honesty on your end! This headset sounds like it's a pretty good starter headset for PCVR users! 😎
So good that I will be giving it away because I have too god damn many headsets haha I really love using it, I don't want to give it away but why do I need it when I have an Aero and a Quest 2 and A pro 2 and blah blah It's definitely a solid choice, and a note on the $550 MSRP, they usually have deals that run it down to $470ish. Still think it's worth saving the money and getting a lightly used Quest 2 with a new facial interface and a nice cleaning
This was a nice quality review. I know USA doesn't have such an easy access to the pico4 headset but I think this is still the best bang for your buck in regards to PCVR.
Oh thank god, not another "why didn't you include Pico" comment. Everyone in my community who has a Pico 4 or Pico 4 Pro absolutely loves them. I'm so tempted to get one
PLEASE tell me if Varjo Aero has screendoor efect? People used to tell me Reveb G2 doesnt. I got one and it does! It is pixelated screen!! Does AERO realy has no screendoor or doest it have one?!

Hey quick tip! if you don't want to deal with compression on a quest 2 or 3 or any wireless lineup, try getting yourself a cheap 5g router, pluf it into a spare ethernet port on your computer, and DON'T plug it into the internet through a mode, run it as a wireless access point, or WAP as I liek to call it :) and then connect to it's wifi on your headset, the headset wont have internet but hopefully if you did it right your PC still should, it gets rid of so much compression!
I must be crazy, i have an original quest 2 from november of 2020, i havent touched a single thing on it. Yes it still has the pre recall faceplate thingy, used to be a bit irritating but i've used it for so long i think my skin oils have made it softer. The headband isnt the best and needs adjusment every now and then.. my lenses are a bit scratched because the glasses spacer isnt big enough, the battery lasts about 45 minutes now on a full charge (have to use a 10,000mah battery pack in my pocket to make it playable for extended periods of time..) and my left stick wants to send me to the moon every time it gets powered on. Best purchase ive ever made 10/10 product.
Ok, I'm really considering getting the Areo now, but is there anything I should watch out for? How much will Knucks and stations cost me? Can I buy them new (with a warranty) or are they expensive disposable items? Do I need to buy the whole Index kit anyway? If so, maybe I'll just get the Index and upgrade later... This is gonna hurt 😭
Actually the entirety of the next video is about getting an Aero and things you need to know, but here's some spoilers. You can buy them new with warranty, everything I've heard about Varjo's customer support has been great. Cost of Aero, knucks, and base stations would come out to around $1600ish US. This headset is based on the same tech that Varjo's enterprise focused XR3 and that's trusted by militaries across Europe to train pilots, as well as private instruction organizations, so I have reason to believe that it's pretty bulletproof!
I bought a Varjo Aero and now my wife is going to kill me. Or at least she would if I had a wife. 😂 But on a serious note, I agree with some of the other comments, the simulated view was a great addition. As someone who's running the OG brick Vive, seeing what the options look like in terms of visual quality upgrades is insane. Such a difference!
Oh I would kill to be you. The jump from og vive to pro 2 was insane to me, if only their software wasn't held together by hopes and dreams lmao When you do upgrade, you're in for a treat
Compression compression compression, you say that but the Quest 2 is capable of indistinguishable-from-wired video quality when using Virtual Desktop and a decent Wi-Fi 6 router and it's still getting better. I run mine at 80Hz and 240Mb/s bitrate using a TP-Link WiFi 6 router with line-of-sight to my headset and don't notice compression artifacts or lag until I'm looking at a very noisy scene or moving my head too quickly respectively. Airlink sucks, full stop, wired isn't much better either and shouldn't be used to judge the Quest's true potential, lots of compression with either method especially if you're not using the correct recommended setup. For the ability to be untethered and do as many 360's as you want until you get dizzy and vomit it's well-worth it for that alone but you do have to be a bit tech-savvy. Quest 2 has surprised me and I look forward to being surprised further with Quest 3.
i've seen this so many times that it isn't worth replying to but sure, here's something If you need another router to get the most out of a headset due to the fact that meta neglects link its a massive L Quest 2 is great, love mine, Quest 3 is only an improvement, but again, if meta just put a little more effort into the Oculus Desktop software compression wouldn't be an issue.
Truth. Most of the used Quest 2's I find around me are hardly used, still come with the box. Usually it's someone who get's a Quest 2 on a whim, decides VR isn't for them, and then they turn around and sell it for cheap. So many deals out there right now!
I want to keep playing VR but it's just... Hard. I had no problems until I tried to start playing VRC from my PC to my Quest 2, and now everything's just kinda fucked. Nothing I do seems to fix the issue and I've done a few dozen "fixes" now with zero luck. At best, the "fixes" didn't make the situation worse somehow. I don't understand why there's so many issues with AMD GPUs and VR. It just makes no sense whatsoever :(
It's a result of nvidia being unfriendly to the industry, they've cornered everything that they can to force industry professionals to use nvidia hardware otherwise suffer at being at a software disadvantage. I'm curious if I could try to fix it, no promises though. Join the discord and DM me
wanted to get into VR after trying the quest2 from a friend and that was an absolutely crazy experience (first time trying a vr), but im afaid it will get old very fast without games that doesn't feel gimmicky or glorified tech demos, and im not into simuators (maybe some space game like elite but apart of that idk), what do i do?
Get VRChat on your desktop and ease yourself into it, it's free. If you get hooked, you'll know. Once you get that feeling, get your hands on a Quest 2 or 3 and just enjoy it. The VRChat community is basically 99% of VR usage these days. Anything and everything you could want, you can get in VRChat for free.
I have a 4070 ti and a rift s atm. I don't give a crap about having a meta account as i already use facebook. should i wait for the quest 3 lite or is there a good alternative to it that doesnt use bay stations?
so question, it being like it is, would this be a good travel headset. like if i want to visit a friend and hop on vrc. could i play it stand alone worse case senario?
Wait for the Quest 3, shaping up to be a powerhouse compared to the Quest 2 in standalone. E4 requires its own power plug and a fullsize displayport, so not ideal for that haha
The 50% price drop on the Aero makes me think there's going to be an announcement for a ~$1000 headset from a big player like Samsung/Google or Valve very soon...
Besides the Pimax Crystal, the high end for headsets seems to be $1000 now. I think that's a perfect price point and would love to see what other manufacturers can do for that price. VR is just getting so exciting!
It was nearly impossible for me to keep track of which one you were talking about with so many new names, it would really help to have a name written over the video while talking about each different headset to help drive in which is which
Agreed. As someone new to this field and trying to get into it. I'm still rewatching this to figure out which they're talking about at times when I stop spacing out on the info. 😂
Was waiting for confirmation before I said anything on the channel about Quest 3 and YES THANK GOD AV1 will be supported on Quest 3, aka unnoticeable compression! It's beautiful!
Maybe i just dont see the compression or maybe you are setting the quest 2 wrong, i made some adjustments to the data transfer and the resolution and i use a cable link, the image looks better than you can get running games directly from the quest 2. I use cable because when using the wifi, even though it is 5Ghz, i could definitely see some compression and the game looked like a youtube video
I use a Kuject cable the rare chances that I do use the Quest 2, the default link settings are so so so bad. I don't use the default settings personally, but when I was comparing these headsets I wanted to talk about an out of the box experience. I could've EQ'd the built in speakers of the E4 or bumped up the saturation on the screens to help it along, but I chose to just do an out of the box experience for the average user. Gotta say, with modified link settings in the debug menu, the compression is so minimal now. Really do love the Quest 2.
@@BonelessVR now i have to agree, the default settings suck, i even had to go through a lot of files just to get to the debugTool and set a couple of things, but after that the image quality looked amazing. The only thing i don't like about the quest 2 is the color fidelity, but i don't complain much because it is my first VR headset and it is just amazing what the quest 2 can do with such a low price, but i intend to buy a best VR headset for my PC in the future and keep using the quest 2 stand alone feature to play beat saber XD
Oh, you're using default Questlink settings, I was confused for the whole video 😅 Those settings were made for Quest 1 and it feels like they abandoned Questlink forever ago. Airlink usually works better and can use the same 500mbit H264 as the cable can. In my experience the biggest problem of Quest headsets in PCVR is not compression but the latency from bumping of the bitrate.
@@Blix8 one more reason for me to use the cable lol. I don't really feel any latency problems when using the cable and i don't use the official oculus link cable
@@leonardosampaio8976 I mean the encoding/decoding latency when you bump up the bitrate. BeatSaber feels like RubberSaber :) I don't know why Meta "hides" all these settings.
The E4 honestly just looks and sounds like the Rift S just with a worse headphone jack position and and a flip up feature. The rift s got far too much hate for what it deserved.
Kuject cable BABYYYYYYYYYY Yeah battery life without a charging cable sucks but a charging cable is cheap cheap. Would use it more if I didn't have the Aero and all
Between the varjo and the beyond im really torn, I feel like you get a ton of value with the features of the aero but the form factor of the beyond is huge.
This isn't the first time I've heard the same haha I don't think either one is a bad choice, just each is for a different audience I went with the Aero because I don't mind the form factor of an HMD like that, but a few of my friends went with the Beyond because they prefer the smaller form factor and weight Super excited to see what they'll do for VR!

my problem over the years with the headsets was always: they are like a skilltree. you have 7 talents to choose from, and each talent has 10 points to max out, but you only have 30 points to spend on all the 7 trees. so there is no perfect build. but then there comes a headset, that can spend 34 in its trees, improves in one talent compared to others very much, yet is still mediocre at all the others, but its on a 400 buck premium because of that.
I need my golden goose headset haha
wouldnt call it a goldon goose. its like complaining about lcd monitors in 2002 not beeing as good as the ones we have today. no monitor today is a golden goose, but even cheap ones are 5x better in everything, compared to 500dollar displays from 2002 @@BonelessVR

Loving the amazing content.
Thank you for taking the time for these reviews and explaining some of the more technical aspects for headsets.
That's a helluva deal
Sure, you'll find it on the other end of the rainbow.
Very happy to hear from people who have the Beyond! It's an exciting headset but dang the market is catching up quick!
@@BonelessVR Also I really like your videos! Recently discovered you and you kept popping up in my recommended, I like the topics you cover, definitely will subscribe and keep an eye out for future uploads! Hope you get some traction to on this platform, you deserve it

I just want entry budget vr for games, nothing more. What should i get?
and the PICO 4?????
6:20 That headset makes you look Like You were part of Daft Punk and i love it 😂
The DPVR company is a Chinese company and has their products MADE IN CHINA (not that I have a probem with that, as I am Chinese myself, but Chinese products from Chinese companies for non-enterprize uses and/or high-end basically mean 2 things: 1. either good software or okay software; 2. cheap but overall not too optimised product, with exception of HuaWei's phones and my mother's company's products), and in DPVR's newest ad, they say it "is a budget option for those who want a Apple Vision Pro", also the ads that they put out in China are cringewothy asf, aand their sponsorships that they give to content creators in China (usually unexperienced with VR) also describe it as something that "can be used to watch 4k movies" instead of a VR ready headset.
I have such a love hate relationship with Vive at this point haha
Vive pro 2 was such a down turn moment for them and I hate to say it

@@BonelessVR Oh okay! I had no clue that it was coming out so soon, thank you! ^^
@@BonelessVR Sorry but I forgot to ask, do you think the elite strap is a worthy purchase? :>
On paper it would. For elite + battery, Personally i'm gonna wait first till I try the headset and see afterwards. Thirdparty accessories will come out sooner than later and they'll be cheaper so that's another thing to consider
@@AlbireoIdoneus Oh okay, thank you!
I didn't want to get into speculation in the video but I'm free to do it in the comments so:

THANK YOU for talking about the Varjo Aero not supporting AMD cards. It's a stupid artificial roadblock that Varjo added because they're too lazy to use anything but CUDA for their upscaling. It's important to note this because this is an Varjo issue and not an AMD issue. Varjo could probably port their code to ROCm pretty easily, but they likely do not care.
Future video deep diving into the Aero and more specifically the lack of updates from the dev team inbound
I can't tell if they don't push updates because they do a ton of testing or because they are lazy but at the end of the day we end up not getting and updates. Foveated rendering on VRChat and many other games also require a community patch that uses Pimax's libraries out of all things lmao
There is a patch to fix the red shift/chromatic aberration that allows you to tweak a setting, it's been out for a while but Varjo just won't add it directly into Varjo Base so that you can just use a slider to fix the issue with red shift
Just some really goofy things that maybe Varjo is getting too much slack for
Congrats on the sponsor!!! :3
I am holding out against hope (read: severe copium) that the Deckard has SLAM tracking, pancake lenses, wide FOV compared to the Quest 2 (my current headset) and is even half way to the size of a Bigscreen Beyond!
@BonelessVR I'm excited for quest 3.
Not only is it quite the upgrade, but I can lend my quest 2 to my family and watch movies on apps like BigScreen as if we still live in the same house.
Have you tried using a good link cable on the quest headsets and change bitrate in oculus debug tool to 960mbps and use h264?
I use a Kuject cable, have modified settings, but it was important in this video to talk about the out of box experience rather than trying to help competitors along. I could've changed settings to make the E4's colors better, make the sound better, etc, but I'd prefer out of the box experiences rather than 'hey if you put extra time into this it'll be better.'
Still though, changing stuff in the debug menu is worth it. Massive, massive difference. On the rare occasion that I use the Quest 2, I do use modified settings, but again, out of the box experience is what's important here
@@BonelessVR Absolutely, that makes sense.

Facts. Quest 2 slaps, Vive slaps, the best VR headset to get is the one that you can afford. I'll never be someone who pricewalls VR, giving away a headset every chance I get. More details soon.
standalone, quest. doesn’t matter what even if a pico headset releases with better specs, purely because of software
DPVR has history with shady advertising. A flight sim TH-camr did a review on the E4, and it was very clear that DPVR employees in the comments (pretending not to be employees) gave positive reviews on it.
That isn't a company people should be supporting.
If there's anything like that in my comments I'll delete it, ezpz. Thank you for giving me a heads up though!
@@BonelessVR the youtuber called them out in the comment. They probably won't be doing it again. Atleast not so blatantly
I'd still probably buy them over meta tbh. Facebook is trying to make a monopoly of the vr market and they're succeeding
5:01 part of me just died inside. I bought a 7900xt this year instead of a 4080 that I thought was preventing my pc from booting
@@BonelessVR Thanks, I am actually interested in getting the beyond.

Have you experimented with changing any of the compression settings? It'll never be as crisp, but it can be better!
idk if you owned an index but im actually curious about why you didnt include it seeing as people say its still the best headset for the price (integration, displays, microphones, headphones, controllers, base stations)
As someone who uses the Vive Pro, I agree with the need for flip up being on more headsets. That being said, I'm likely getting a bigscreen beyond at some point which makes stuff like that much less of an issue in the first place.
I wish I got a Pro instead of a Pro 2. I've noticed people are generally so much happier with the Original Pro.
„The flip-up feature is something i need to see more of” Bro, 4-5 WMR Headset used it in 2018 and earlier. It sure is nice, but after some time the hinge become so loose that the front part can’t stay on your face when crouching. It’s super annoying.
True, hinges do wear over time and RIP WMR

"If none of these headsets tickle your fancy it might be best to wait"
Problem is I like almost all of them but don't wanna buy an Aero just to have the Valve Deckard or whatever come out a few months later for preorder lol. I'll probably look into getting a base station tracked rig soon, I have a Quest 2 and it's definitely not my fav due to clarity being ehhhhh
I 100% expect the Aero to age very quickly and poorly within the next year or two
Compression just doesn't bother me lol.
Yo sandbox has some locations around me and I really want to go but they won't just let me rent an experience alone haha
After optimizing with the debug settings, the compression is so much more minimal.
So good that I will be giving it away because I have too god damn many headsets haha
I really love using it, I don't want to give it away but why do I need it when I have an Aero and a Quest 2 and A pro 2 and blah blah
It's definitely a solid choice, and a note on the $550 MSRP, they usually have deals that run it down to $470ish.
The game you showed in the first clip looks cool. What is the name?
I used Asseto Corsa, VRChat, Vertigo 2, H3VR, and Kayak VR Mirage
Goddamn, I JUST bought a Quest 3, never expecting Varjo to just slash the price in half. Wish youtube had recommended this to me about 4 hours ago.
I want the Zevo Toys HMD that Joan Cusack used to go white water rafting.
PLEASE tell me if Varjo Aero has screendoor efect? People used to tell me Reveb G2 doesnt. I got one and it does! It is pixelated screen!!
Does AERO realy has no screendoor or doest it have one?!
Absolutely zero screendoor effect on Aero, the raw resolution of the screens is absolutely insane even compared to the beyond.
in Poland u can still buy vivr pro eye 6419zł + 650zł tracker what translate to 1645usd and i paid this much for it few montchs ago , also have quest 2 and full index kit , and 2x oculus cv1, and bhaptic x40 vest and tactos for arms , and full body ... and 3 other pcs for vr when my real friends or boyfriend are with me ... (send help)
Jesus I need to see this
th-cam.com/video/F-4YmqikgLQ/w-d-xo.html@@BonelessVR old movie , quest 2 is rapleced by index and index by vive pro eye , laptop is replaced with gamming pc and main gaming pc have beter parts inside + better pc speakers. quest 2 and gamming laptop is in other room, cv1 are not used , so i can do 3 people in vr same time , i can use another laptops what have bare minimum spec for cv1 but.. its not worth, and to be honest i dont use it that much cuz i work, but it was worth evry penny belive me , vrc get so much better if i join vrc without haptic i feel naked , rly like something missing, also used haptic in pavlov or half life alyx... it was intense , not pain but overall immersion experienced fear in different way , when i took shotgun blast to the chest i needed to pause the game and rest a liitle cuz i almost got heart attack (joke but this was intense) if u ever wil have chance to test it (for longer then 2-3 hours) do it , if u use it for few days it will be hard to go back without it.
The jump from og vive to pro 2 was insane to me, if only their software wasn't held together by hopes and dreams lmao
When you do upgrade, you're in for a treat
my vive controllers recently broke twice. I should however mention that I HAVE bludgeoned multiple walls in my house to death
What unmanageable power do you have that you are capable of killing a Vive Wand? You're making me scared
Quest 2 has surprised me and I look forward to being surprised further with Quest 3.
i've seen this so many times that it isn't worth replying to but sure, here's something
If you need another router to get the most out of a headset due to the fact that meta neglects link its a massive L
Quest 2 is great, love mine, Quest 3 is only an improvement, but again, if meta just put a little more effort into the Oculus Desktop software compression wouldn't be an issue.
Awesome video, Was debating on purchasing the DPVR Headset.
I can barely stop myself from getting a Quest 3 haha
im doing a pc build in a month or 2 with vr in mind. should i go with nvidia and would a 4070 be enough for any vr game?
a heavy uesd quest2 controller will have a lot of drift, i had to spray the contact cleaner every month to clean it
Truth. Most of the used Quest 2's I find around me are hardly used, still come with the box. Usually it's someone who get's a Quest 2 on a whim, decides VR isn't for them, and then they turn around and sell it for cheap. So many deals out there right now!
LOL. When you flipped the headset up and it broke her neck.
Join the discord and DM me
Ya'll why does this man have 51k subs, stunningly high quality productions... and only 6.52k subs???
on Quest 2 you can adjust your IPD to any position between those 3 options and it works
But limited and they are steps, not smooth adjust. This is sometimes problem for people with more wider or smaller eyes distance.
wanted to get into VR after trying the quest2 from a friend and that was an absolutely crazy experience (first time trying a vr), but im afaid it will get old very fast without games that doesn't feel gimmicky or glorified tech demos, and im not into simuators (maybe some space game like elite but apart of that idk), what do i do?
Get VRChat on your desktop and ease yourself into it, it's free. If you get hooked, you'll know. Once you get that feeling, get your hands on a Quest 2 or 3 and just enjoy it. The VRChat community is basically 99% of VR usage these days. Anything and everything you could want, you can get in VRChat for free.
I have a 4070 ti and a rift s atm. I don't give a crap about having a meta account as i already use facebook. should i wait for the quest 3 lite or is there a good alternative to it that doesnt use bay stations?
Hey, can you please tell me what racing game you are playing in this video? It has Gran Turismo ADs in it, but arent you running it on PC?
so question, it being like it is, would this be a good travel headset. like if i want to visit a friend and hop on vrc. could i play it stand alone worse case senario?
Wait for the Quest 3, shaping up to be a powerhouse compared to the Quest 2 in standalone. E4 requires its own power plug and a fullsize displayport, so not ideal for that haha
The 50% price drop on the Aero makes me think there's going to be an announcement for a ~$1000 headset from a big player like Samsung/Google or Valve very soon...
Besides the Pimax Crystal, the high end for headsets seems to be $1000 now. I think that's a perfect price point and would love to see what other manufacturers can do for that price. VR is just getting so exciting!
Wake up new boneless vid
It was nearly impossible for me to keep track of which one you were talking about with so many new names, it would really help to have a name written over the video while talking about each different headset to help drive in which is which
Will keep that in mind for the future! I appreciate it!
Agreed. As someone new to this field and trying to get into it. I'm still rewatching this to figure out which they're talking about at times when I stop spacing out on the info. 😂
What world is that at 2:30? It's so pretty!
The Quest 3 with PC (Virtual Desktop) I should run with less compression compared to quest two
Was waiting for confirmation before I said anything on the channel about Quest 3 and YES THANK GOD
AV1 will be supported on Quest 3, aka unnoticeable compression! It's beautiful!
Im new to this vr stuff, and planning to get the quest 3 as my first vr headset. And waited out after release to see reviews for it
That is a super safe bet, really excited to see what Meta announces at Connect in just a few days!
Joycon stick is good, you can easily replace it with hall effect.
Couldn't open up the controllers to confirm because this is a giveaway headset, but that thought did cross my mind
so if all i want to do is play beat saber and vrchat at the best way possible what do you recommend?
Dude that's some impressive content wtfff
may I ask what the base model to your avatar is? (Love the content btw :} )
Base model is Mophira, haven’t seen too many around :)
@@BonelessVR Thank you!
Impressive content Sir!
BeatSaber feels like RubberSaber :)
I don't know why Meta "hides" all these settings.
That headset that got sponsored to you, really reminds me of the Dell Visor (I own one).
The E4 honestly just looks and sounds like the Rift S just with a worse headphone jack position and and a flip up feature. The rift s got far too much hate for what it deserved.
Rift S is a W
add chapters dude
All this year I only wanted an OLED screen insideout vr headset just like quest 1 but with newer tech/harware 😭
What game is he playing at 8:55 ?????
Vertigo 2, recommended to me by members of the audience, game is worth every penny I love it
The only reason that Quest 2 got lightly used is the damn battery lol
Kuject cable BABYYYYYYYYYY
Yeah battery life without a charging cable sucks but a charging cable is cheap cheap.
Would use it more if I didn't have the Aero and all
Between the varjo and the beyond im really torn, I feel like you get a ton of value with the features of the aero but the form factor of the beyond is huge.
This isn't the first time I've heard the same haha
I don't think either one is a bad choice, just each is for a different audience
I went with the Aero because I don't mind the form factor of an HMD like that, but a few of my friends went with the Beyond because they prefer the smaller form factor and weight
Super excited to see what they'll do for VR!
I think you’d be happy with either one of em if it’s first time your in vr
bro there is no way u wanted to benchmark the vr headset on kanojo vr 💀(thevrhubs second channel)
those NAILS
