Really enjoy your fly fishing videos Andrew. I'm a student at UM and learned to fly fish on the Au Sable and Manistee last summer. What rod weight are you usually using?
Thanks Alex! I have 3 rods. On the Au Sable I use a 9ft 5 wt. I started using an 8ft 4wt on smaller rivers to give me a little more room to navigate around overhanging branches, plus it's a bit more fun to catch the smaller fish on it. There's a great smallmouth river by UM (the Huron). I have an 8wt I use there. A lot of rod weight has to do with the size flies you are using as well (heavier the fly, heavier the rod). Anyways, if I could only have two rods in Michigan it would be a 5wt and 8wt. That would get me through most situations.
One of my favorite rivers to fish in Michigan. Great video! Thanks
I'm just scratching the surface on this river. Looking forward to exploring it more:) Thanks!
Great video, those were some beautiful fish and it looked like fun on the fly rod! Thanks for sharing!
Fly rod is the way to go! Thank You.
That is a fabulous bit of water.
Nice little Brooke's.
Is this Black River, north of Harrisville?
If yes, we've fished the mouth by the bridge/beach never upstream.
Yep! Sounds like a nice spot!
Very Nice fishing!
Is this the black river located in cheboygan?
Yeah, it's long with branches but part of it goes through Cheboygan.
Buddy of mine has property in croswell on this river and i hammered smallies in it surprisingly
Nice. That's my other favorite fish. I fish smallmouth on the huron.
Different black river. This one's north of Alpena
Love the video! Is this in the lower or upper peninsula?

One of my regrets is being a student at UM and not fly fishing the Huron..
It's amazing how often a person can look down and find gold in the Black River
Absolutely!

👍👍👍
it took me 100 years to find out what black river holds the infamous brooke trout!
Dennis son?
That first Brookie was kept out of the water way too long. Keep those fish wet and try to keep their stress down to a minimum.
