Is Toyota the next Boeing? Profits over People…

  • Is Toyota following suit with Boeing? Currently, Boeing is under a lot of scrutiny for cutting corners, outsourcing manufacturing outside the US, building sub-par aircraft. There are rising safety concerns for Boeing aircraft after we saw the door detach from a 737 Max 9 mid-flight back in January. Since then, we’ve seen some more concerning details come out about the Fortune 500 company. The 777 and 787 Dreamliner jets are alleged to have unsafe aspects that may lead to catastrophic failure in flight.
We’re seeing similar stories plague Toyota right now. Toyota has outsourced 2024 Tacoma production entirely to Mexico where we are seeing numerous quality control issues stem from. Transmission failures, clutch problems, panel gapping, loose components, weak off roading progress, etc… Same goes for the 2022+ Toyota Tundra. We’re seeing engine failures left and right due to faulty main crankshaft bearings. Or as Toyota says… “engine debris” from production. 👀
On top of the flawed designs in and out, Toyota has hiked prices 20-25% across the board… rendering these trucks unattainable for most Americans. Mos Americans font want to spend over $50K for their midsize pickup, let alone one that comes with a turbo 4 banger… meh. And over $70K for the Tundra? No thanks. Seems to me, Toyota is trying to pay off their $242B debt. What say you?
Let me know what you think. Do you think Toyota is following in Boeing’s footsteps? Both companies ate putting profits over people.

Plenty of 3rd Generation Tacoma have been manufactured in Mexico are just fine. The majority of vehicle issues regardless of manufacturer have to do with suppliers and problems they sometimes cause to meet the manufacturers' deadlines and constraints. If we want to jump location, there are plenty, in fact so many vehicles built in America that have been recalled that to list would be too many for this media. There have been literally thousands of cases where American plant workers have been caught drinking or doing other drugs during lunch or breaks causing quality control issues. Multiple reports of rattles being heard in new cars only to find out some American plant worker stuck their soda can behind the quarter panel. Stop being a moron and understand that there are lazy shits all over this world that do not take pride in their work.

I don't believe there is any similarity between the poor corporate culture that has plagued Boeing and Toyota's corporate culture. In my opinion, Toyota is capitalizing on their brand recognition and low inventory, particularly when compared to other brands. The issues we are seeing with the Tundra and other Toyota models are mainly due to the introduction of new models and the incorporation of numerous new technologies. Introducing so much tech can lead to more issues, causing customer frustration. When you purchase a first-year model, it's expected that there might be problems and that you might have to wait a long time for parts to fix those issues.
The engine problems with the new Tundra are somewhat expected when put to real-world use. While they introduced that engine in the Lexus LS first to test it in real-world conditions, I don't think LS owners put that engine under the same stress as Tundra owners. In addition, lab tests don't fully capture the hot/cold cycles, varying humidity, and environmental changes that engines experience in the real world.
I want to clarify that I'm not excusing Toyota for their high prices or perceived drop in quality. I encourage consumers to vote with their wallets and avoid purchasing overpriced Toyota vehicles. As you mentioned, the new Toyota trucks are at least 20% overpriced, and if consumers keep buying them, more people will be priced out of the market for new Toyotas. The reality is that many of us feel like we're living in a third-world country.
On a personal note, I avoid buying vehicles manufactured in Mexico. This is not a reflection on Mexican workers, but rather a concern that underpaid workers may not be able to consistently produce high-quality work.

Untamed, with major recall on Tundra I attempted to see if I could get a deal on a Tundra. Figured may get a great deal because of the recall and Tundra not selling so well currently. I was shocked when I was willing to pay $77,000 all in for a new Tundra out here in Cali at City Toyota of Daly City and the sales manager literally stated that I was $30k off from making a deal! Can you believe that!!? So basically I would end up paying over $100k if I wanted this Tundra. And it wasn’t a Platinum or Capstone. Unfortunately I do live in Cali where there are a bunch of idiots who would think that would be a reasonable deal. I am sure that’s why this particular dealer was so arrogant in his statement. I am a 3rd gen Tacoma owner who bought his 3rd gen in late 2015 and paid $38k for a loaded as they came TRD OR. I never thought I would hate Toyota but after this experience I will never buy a Toyota again. I am done.

I used to work for a Toyota Dealer way back once upon a time. I have never seen this happen…. I even had a 2017 Tacoma and it was a great truck albeit a bit gutless in my opinion.
I now own a 2023 Frontier SV 4x4 crew cab and I love the thing.
I should also state that I am quite partial to the frontier as it was my first truck I ever bought in my early 20’s. I really dig the new Tacoma look but the back seat is smaller and all the issues are just gross… not to mention I can’t imagine a Turbo 4 for off-road or overlanding.

This is got to be complete and total garbage fallacy maybe they are selling them to rental car companies for a loss? Just to make the numbers look better? Would be good for you to do a deep dive into this and prove him wrong.

The fiscal disaster that is car pricing got me to thinking if I really NEED or just want a new vehicle. Yes, my Jeep has issues. Lots of issues. But I still have a warranty. For the price of just 6 months of payments for any of these new $50K trucks I can do all of the following: take my bass boat out every week for six months, go on vacation, put money into my kids college plans, invest into my own savings, and still have about $1,000 sitting around in case my current vehicle has a problem.
At the prices they are charging, these trucks are toys and not tools. I don't need toys.

Wow, I am amazed at how many people are certain that Toyota has been and is committing fraud, certain that the problem is a design flaw. I would like to presume that the folks making these statements are engineers, mechanics, machinists, and actually own and / or have physically examined one of these failures. I certainly do not have the credentials to make such remarks with certainty. As an LX tt owner, I too am not happy with any of these failures. Im under the impression that some are actually enjoying the whole thing. I wonder if the actual truth with evidence will ever come to light, or if we have been told the truth. With that said I will wait to know more. As a non engineer I'm not sure why the debris scenario is so outrageous to so many, or why a company would admit to such sloppy work to make itself look better. I decided to wait it out rather than rush to Lexus or Carmax to unload, or be told they will not take my trade. I really hope to know the entire truth about all of this.......not sure if all of us will ever be satisfied.

I get your point, but it’s a poor comparison. You’re comparing the operation of a whole company (Boeing) to a tiny operation of Toyota. The Tundra and Tacoma are tiny share of Toyota’s sales globally. I do agree that Toyota has been milking American and Canadian consumers. They have a lot of awesome vehicles that they will never bring over to the North American market, and it’s really a pity. They also charge a lot less in Asian markets for some of the same vehicles we have here.
