Anyone who pays a markup deserves to get screwed. Just because Toyota puts a sticker on the window doesn't mean you have to pay it. I bought a new Toyota a few months ago. It had a sticker with $2600 in add-ons and a $2500 price markup. I told the salesman I wasn't paying it, nor MSRP, and call me if they wanted to deal, and then I left. He called 30 minutes later, and I drove away paying under MSRP.
The dealership I work for does not charge over msrp for vehicles (except for special or limited production edition vehicle like trd pros) even when dealerships started doing that we didn't. The thought was, when things go back to quasi normal, customers will remember that dealerships charging over msrp did them dirty.
Since most people’s income isn’t going up 20% per year like Toyota’s MSRPs, they will price themselves out of their market. Stop buying! BTW, this happened with previous gen Land Cruiser and this new one WAS SUPPOSED to be much cheaper to get customers back. But with dealer Mark ups and these high option packages, the “lower” price point seems to be fake.

The 300 series LC was literally 90k before taxes and most people could not afford it. That was the whole point of introducing a smaller cheaper Land Cruiser to the states. I can afford this truck and I have no desire to own one. People get so mad about not being able to get a depreciating asset like a vehicle. I drive a 5 year old truck and I'm fine with it. Who wants a car payment right now anyway. I find most people complaining about the price of these vehicles are the same people asking for 4k off an LE Corolla. If you need discount on a $24,000 dollar car you can't afford new car. The only price I found ridiculous is the Tacoma prices. I could buy a pretty well equipped Tundra or base Land Cruiser for what they are charging for a loaded up Tacoma.
To get around "market adjustment" they are doing things like adding $1000 windshield protection, $1500 Lojack, $1500 paint protection, and $3000 extended warranty.
fun fact - you have no obligation to buy the largest, most luxurious, most expensive product a car company makes. in fact, you're not obligated to buy any product from any company.
All my local toyta dealers are charging at least 4k over the MSRP, and their sales are low . They are calling all customers in the base to buy a new vehicle
It’s easy to cry about a high price, but for some reason no one wants to stop buying at this price )) I'm not even talking about those who take out loans to buy a car that is beyond their financial capabilities.
Customers were begging Toyota to keep that V8 even before the problems with the new engines. So Toyota took a page from the 'Don't give your customers what they want" and ditched their legendary powertrain, what made the Land Cruiser and other trucks so reliable and powerful. I don't know who advises them but they should start listening to the people who buy their cars...or did.
I was in the market for a new one, but stopped. I had a dealer tell me I needed to buy now 4 months ago because prices were going up. I told her "that's the wrong way, I'll talk you when you guys are hurting." In this economy, These dealers not willing to offer a discount are out of their minds. Just wait 6 months, the country is heading for a major fall.
The problem isn’t the manufacturers or the dealerships. This is a US Federal Reserve monetary policy problem. The Fed has driven the value of the dollar so far into the ground, a car, a house, and raising a family is near impossible for someone who isn’t making six figures and got a head start making all the right decisions 10-15 years ago.
Part of the problem is that the last several years that Land Cruisers were available here in the USA they sold for $80,000-$90,000+ (LC's were sold loaded so this price variance is based on year not model level). So people that previously couldn't afford one are now excited to be able to get one for $55,000 - $77,000, depending on model because the price is a "bargain" compared to years past. So many people are asking who would pay that much for a Toyota! I bought my 2013 LC in December of 2014. It was used with 6,000 miles, and I paid $62,000 (10 years ago!). I still have that LC and could sell it today for $35k+. This is why people by Land Cruisers. Legendary off-road capability and huge retention of value.
Just wait until you get the quotes for a Land Rover, Mercedes (any SUV) and the new VW Touareg…not sure what alternative you expect to get for cheap. Basically sheep mentality, it’s cool now to hate on Toyota whereas a rational person knows that the car market in general is currently overpriced.
Best Buy right now is the 18-21 Lexus LX570 certified pre owned at under $60k. Engine will run forever and it way better built than anything Toyota/Lexus is making now.
Wait, $55k for a Toyota Land Cruiser doesn’t sound like a lot. A Land Cruiser in 2001 cost about the same, not couldn’t for inflation, so these are actually cheaper. How is this expensive for Toyota’s historically flagship SUV?
It will be since its based of the same TNGA body on frame as the Tacoma. So expect the same price hikes as the 2024 taco except more. 60K for base SR5's if your lucky. TRD pro's will probably start at 70K plus. They are not going to build this in Japan with the same 2.4 turbo hybrid system and charge less then the taco. Its going to have insane pricing. Just like all their new TNGA body on frames are. They did it with the Tundra, then with the taco, the LC and next the 4 runner.
@islandhopper100 Read again what I said carefully "They are not going to build this in Japan with the same 2.4 turbo hybrid system and charge less then the taco." Not the best sentence structure but I did say they won't build the same platform truck for less money then the Taco which is made in Mexico. And yes I know they made the 4 runner along with the GX, landcrusier etc.. As they have done for decades. See what you did? You took the first part "they are not going to build this in Japan" and responded without reading the rest. If you were alert enough you would have seen my point that making TNGA platform trucks in Japan cost allot more then using slave labor in Mexico. No way a Japanese made truck is going to cost less then a Mexican made body on frame. I'm not fact checked because I already know these will come from the Tahara plant along with just about everybody else that knows anything about toyota.
My dealer did not charge over the MSRP. He did try to sell me an appearance package for $3100. I declined. What bothers me are the pre-installed options. These are called PIOs, or port installed options. The dealer cannot remove them. Here are a few PIOs: paint protection film, mud flaps, roof rack cross rails, wheel locks, blackout emblem over lays. I call these forced options, as the buyer must pay for them.
With all these over price Toyotas, I loved my 2013 SR5 4Runner more than ever. I bought it in 2012 for $35k and free and clear of any debts. It has the best reliable and dependable V6 4.O Engine 5 speed Automatic, 4wd, sunroof, running boards, CD player, great sound system, and no issues at all. Has 140k mostly highway miles. The sales guy told me he couldn't take a deposit because the car was going to be up for auction and the only way they would sell the car was with a $8k markup
Toyota has hubris, and given the transmission problems of the new Tacomas and the engine problems of the Tundra, most of us will go elsewhere when we find out the above MSRP at the Toyota dealers. Who is in charge of customer strategy at TMCC?
Why are you saying Toyota is out of their mind when it's the dealers that are pricing the Land Cruisers above MSRP? Toyota dealers are independent businesses and as such are driven by market supply and demand. They would not be doing this if the were sitting on Land Cruiser inventory - it's only because the supply is outstripped by demand. Simple economics. If the demand goes down, those mark-ups will also go down.
Never mind the mark ups, the MSRP on these ‘hunks of junk’ is insane all on its own. Let’s be honest you’d be extremely lucky to get 100,000 miles out of these turbo 4 bangers!
Yeah, but the problem is the majority of the American population has been conditioned into hyper consumerism so no matter how ridiculous the price is enough. People will always keep buying it to basically make it sustainable for manufacturers to do it whereas if everyone had a brain we could all just say hey we’re not gonna buy cars for a few years until the prices come down to where they need to be, but that can’t happen because we live in a brain dead society of Tax cattle who do nothing but consume consume pay taxes consume consume. we could never actually do anything with any thought behind it as a society. We’re just basically a society led by tyranny of the mindless masses.. literally no good reason why cars should cost this much other than enough of our society is dumb enough to just let it happen and keep on buying them just because they can because they do not care about the principle of getting ripped off they will only care when they are no longer able to afford it. They don’t care about how ridiculous it is.

I looked at a Nissan Maxima several years ago. There was a paper sticker attached to the main sticker that added $5,000 to the msrp. The salesman did a tap dance when I asked about it. I knew what it was. It is what is known as an AMV (adjusted market value). In other words, we can get 5K more than the msrp because people in your town have the extra money to spend.

I’ve never understood people blaming Toyota or the car dealerships for markups. If buyers didn’t pay the markups then there would be no markups. At the end of the day a car company is a business and they here to make money, and if they can make that extra money from consumers, they will. If we as customers stopped paying the markups then there will be no markups
Yup. As a person who's been shopping for a vehicle lately, it is absolutely mind boggling how sketchy all the dealers are getting. It's literally insanity. Add to that how quickly vehicles depreciate and it's impossible to get anything if you have cold hard cash.
Both the new 4Runner and Land Cruiser are striking in appearance. BUT, while a lot of casual consumers may buy both; they are, in essence, enthusiast vehicles. That being the case, enthusiasts are showing resistance to the new turbo or hybrid drive trains. They might be fine enough for the soccer moms, but do they have the long-term reliability that hard-core Toyota buyers value? It's still early, but initial impressions of the Tundra have been less than spectacular. It's quite possible Toyota has shot themselves in the foot. 😢
All these manufacturers lost their minds on prices. I went with a 2024 RAV4 over the others because for the price, it’s the best option. I got it under MSRP.
Southeast Toyota Distributors (SET) is the guilty party here. A lot of areas are actually showing discounts on some vehicles. If you're in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina - you're going to be screwed for a while.
Toyota and Honda have some of the lowest inventories out there. There is no excuse anymore. Why are other manufactures able to produce more cars? I would pass on both and get a Mazda....this from a Honda/Toyota fanboy. Vote with your $.
Toyota keeps charging more and more for an inferior product. Their board is pushing them in the wrong direction instead of just letting Toyota do what it does best. For example, we should have never gotten this Land Cruiser in the U.S. It’s a shame that they went this direction instead of bringing out a real contender to the Jeep and Bronco.
I was on waiting list for Land Cruiser, got offered one, and finally took for a test drive. After taking a look at the small back space AND seeing a $5000+k markup, I dropped the idea of buying. Math just didn’t make sense. It is a wonderful vehicle, but way overpriced. Now looking seriously at RAV4. Can get slightly below MRSP with no markup. Mudbuster will have to wait.
In N. California, local dealer shows "dealer adjustment" of $4995 right on the website for Land Cruiser. Some sort of "adjustment" is added to nearly all models, especially hybrids. Sienna is $2995. Cross hybrid is $1995. Can't tell about Camrys. One in transit, others "in production." Supply is limited across the board. No one explains that.

Its amended that it only has to be on displah.
So they add an adjustment fee of $5000
the fine is $10,000 per car the window sticker must be on the window of the car under federal law
and? there's no law that says they have to post the window sticker on an internet website.
@@connor_flanigan you are absolutely correct but it does give you an insight to the tricky nature of the dealer. That rare brand-new automobile you want is being built at a rate of one every 37 seconds. Best wishes

Good.
Good we should keep it that way

People are dumb enough to not know they are both Toyotas. Lexus is the biggest psychological scam Toyota successfully deployed over the American consumer.
The whole car industry needs regulations. There's zero reason why I shouldn't be able to just go online, buy the car and go pick it up. I shouldn't have to go in and feel like I'm getting fucked over every time I try and buy a car. Let me buy directly from Toyota or any other manufacturer and be done with these dealership assholes.
Failed to say the engine choices in these new Toyotas all SUCK
Have you driven one to have this kind of statement? We all want to know.
They actually don't. I test drove the Land Cruiser and loved it. The responsiveness from the turbo and the torque are similar to my wife's 23 Highlander. Same same, but different. However, they wanted $65k for a base 1958, lol. I bought a 24 Tundra 1794 4x4 out the door at that price instead.
@@joedaniel3894
It would have been nice for the amount of money these beautiful cars are to put a turbo V8 in them.
Yes
Why are they selling them? Mark-ups is due to demand
The most I've paid for a new Toyota is $25K. I asked for pricing for a new Camry and they've sent me offers every month for a year and call me regularly. I'm waiting for an offer under $30K. I've always been a cash buyer at my local dealership so they know that I can just write a check to buy a car. I have 2 old Camrys that run just fine and I'll just keep driving them for now.
You aren’t the customer they want. They want the loan process in-house to make up for the flooring expenses.
@@BRLaue They probably expect the cash customer to buy much more expensive cars too.
@@movdqa I sometimes pay cash but don’t disclose that until I’ve seen the deal. Same with the trade-in
@@BRLaue That's true. They will milk more money out someone who takes a loan out. But if they can still make a quick sale, possibly with add-ons (Warranty, tint, etc.). Why not?
@@tonycj7860 Agreed, that’s why I decide when I see the final deal whether I pay cash, take a loan, work a trade-in into the deal or walk. The last couple of years it has been mostly walk.
I really wanted a Tacoma but I’ve come to the conclusion the brand just isn’t worth the asking price.
That Land Cruiser looks like this 🚙 plain “vehicle” emoji. 😂😂
😂😂
Why can't we have the Land Cruiser the rest of the world gets... you know, the one that actually looks like a Land Cruiser?
the 4 cylinder turbo is a deal killer for me.
Yup. That engine belongs in a small sedan.
If they could keep the 1GR in the lc300,they could as well in the 250....
The dealership I work for does not charge over msrp for vehicles (except for special or limited production edition vehicle like trd pros) even when dealerships started doing that we didn't. The thought was, when things go back to quasi normal, customers will remember that dealerships charging over msrp did them dirty.
Prices are way up and quality seems to be down with the Tundra motor failures. Not a good combination.
I come to watch the super animated hand movements
I WONDERED what was disturbing me !!! now i cant watch anymore.
I like it 😅
My wife was born/raised in the Bronx. Her whole family talks with their hands. They also speak loudly and have a funny accent, being from Alabama it was like learning to speak another language. I never get bored watching and listening to. Another thing I realize is they communicate and listen to each other. New Yorkers are good people until they start talking politics!
Channeling their inner “Scotty Kilmer” (the king of talking with his hands)
My dealership NEVER charges over MSRP!!! Our addendums are $1,098 but they are not required. I have customers all over the USA because we are transparent. Reach out, I’d love to help show you excellent customer service and fair prices. Enjoy Your Day!!!
Just find the VOLUME dealer closest to you. There is always a volume dealer in every market who doesn’t charge mark ups. Ours in nashville is Beaman Toyota. You may have to get on a wait list for an allocation but they won’t charge a mark up.
There are two Toyota dealers near me that don't charge over the MSRP.
I got charged $700 for nitrofilled tires once. Gtfo
fun fact - you have no obligation to buy the largest, most luxurious, most expensive product a car company makes. in fact, you're not obligated to buy any product from any company.
All my local toyta dealers are charging at least 4k over the MSRP, and their sales are low . They are calling all customers in the base to buy a new vehicle
Dealerships are out of their minds. Proper title
It’s easy to cry about a high price, but for some reason no one wants to stop buying at this price ))
I'm not even talking about those who take out loans to buy a car that is beyond their financial capabilities.
Bought a 2024 Camry a few months ago below msrp. Not all dealerships have markups, you just might have to go outside your town to find a deal.
That’s because the demand for sedans is low.
We the consumers have a say in this market with our wallets, hold firm…
The problem isn’t the manufacturers or the dealerships. This is a US Federal Reserve monetary policy problem.
The Fed has driven the value of the dollar so far into the ground, a car, a house, and raising a family is near impossible for someone who isn’t making six figures and got a head start making all the right decisions 10-15 years ago.
Buy used, buying new is unrealistic for most people at current new prices.
Let them sit on the lot.
Toyota needs to go direct to consumer, as all manufactures need to offer now.
For a 4 cylinder, they can keep them all.
That car doesn’t even deserve the land cruise name. That’s the temu Land Cruiser
A dealership tried sell me a first edition for $97,000.00. I told them to FK OFF.
Well done
Just wait until you get the quotes for a Land Rover, Mercedes (any SUV) and the new VW Touareg…not sure what alternative you expect to get for cheap.
Basically sheep mentality, it’s cool now to hate on Toyota whereas a rational person knows that the car market in general is currently overpriced.
Best Buy right now is the 18-21 Lexus LX570 certified pre owned at under $60k. Engine will run forever and it way better built than anything Toyota/Lexus is making now.
I drove a 1998 Land Cruiser for 23 years. This is not a Land Cruiser.
Wait, $55k for a Toyota Land Cruiser doesn’t sound like a lot. A Land Cruiser in 2001 cost about the same, not couldn’t for inflation, so these are actually cheaper. How is this expensive for Toyota’s historically flagship SUV?
It is a different vehicle so the comparison is not valid. The new Land Cruiser is much smaller than before.
You can keep it ! Probably will be a nightmare in warrenty claims.
At these prices, is it worth it to rebuild an old FJ45?
This will be the easiest car buying process for me. If 6th gen 4Runner is insanely priced, I’ll buy something else.
Lol. You coulsnt be more wring. 4runners will be under land cruiser pricing. NOT ABOVE. LOL where do you idiots come up with this shit @@HiPlains1
On the Toyota USA website ALL land cruisers in the north east are 10k listed above MSRP.
Runs like a champ!!!!😅😅
80k for a 4 cylinder car.....yikes
Yea, not paying above msrp...which is already overpriced
Youd be a fool to buy a landcruiser now . The dealers are screwing people
beginning of the year , i tried to buy a prius. As I was getting ready to leave n the 2 hour trip to pick up the car. i called to put a $500 dollar deposit on an agreed on price. The sales guy told me he couldn't take a deposit because the car was going to be up for auction and the only way they would sell the car was with a $8k markup
8k markup on a prius? wow
Toyota has hubris, and given the transmission problems of the new Tacomas and the engine problems of the Tundra, most of us will go elsewhere when we find out the above MSRP at the Toyota dealers. Who is in charge of customer strategy at TMCC?
I think the problem is also with Akio Toyoda....who was replaced by someone else...
They think their chit don’t stink…
Why are you saying Toyota is out of their mind when it's the dealers that are pricing the Land Cruisers above MSRP? Toyota dealers are independent businesses and as such are driven by market supply and demand. They would not be doing this if the were sitting on Land Cruiser inventory - it's only because the supply is outstripped by demand. Simple economics. If the demand goes down, those mark-ups will also go down.
Toyota is purposely making less vehicles, whether that's land cruisers or Corollas, so yes Toyota is out of their mind and greedy
That’s why I’m considering Hyundai. Sure camriesbare affordable but hard to get features that you want like HUD and 360 cam and they’re expensive without any of these features. At least Hyundai has these features as standard
Shame on Toyota 😡
If a dealer isn’t transparent with their price, then I’m not giving them my money.
Fellas! Stop being a Toyota simp!
I'd rather have the 2021 Land Cruiser with a RELIABLE 5.7 L V8.
Here in west Houston dealerships Lexus are charging close to 5 thousand on new NXs models. I’m just going to wait a little longer.
Charging even more in DFW. I should come down to Houston. New Corollas are definitely cheaper in Houston than DFW!
i was getting quotes for 55k on the new RX luxury, my sister in-law bought one for 75k. I showed her the breakdown sheet i got from lexus at 55k and called her an idiot and laugh in her face. hahah

I had placed a deposit on a Lancruiser. Started looking at other options. I ended up with a 2022 CPO Porsche Cayenne Base Model. Had only 5400 miles and a three year unlimited miles warranty. All in for
I’ve never understood people blaming Toyota or the car dealerships for markups.

Someone really buying it?
My dealership has two both are $70,000
I buy to own a long time. Forget any turbo Toyotas.
Dealers are as bad as Hamas!😂😂😂😂
Not someone who has friends and family there I see.
Toyota is purposely keeping inventory down. That's why Corollas are in such low supply, lower supply of Corollas than Civics
I’ve got a 20001 Tundra and I’m keeping it as long as I can. Simple to work on and super reliable.
Let that turbo sit on the lot 🙄. Nobody is rushing to buy them
Toyota keeps charging more and more for an inferior product. Their board is pushing them in the wrong direction instead of just letting Toyota do what it does best. For example, we should have never gotten this Land Cruiser in the U.S. It’s a shame that they went this direction instead of bringing out a real contender to the Jeep and Bronco.
Dealer mark ups are so 2021 :D
I was on waiting list for Land Cruiser, got offered one, and finally took for a test drive. After taking a look at the small back space AND seeing a $5000+k markup,
I dropped the idea of buying. Math just didn’t make sense. It is a wonderful vehicle, but way overpriced. Now looking seriously at RAV4. Can get slightly below MRSP with no markup. Mudbuster will have to wait.
RIPOFF
Pretty expensive for a vehicle destined to be recalled for engine/transmission failure- yeah
Looks like a Nissan. Next.
Toyota has the ability to produce at/above demand levels. But, if they “fall behind” demand they can justify these markups. The whole thing is a scam.
it took me a couple times to realize you were saying 4 runner, not foreigner
