5:05 I hope so because fusion had some annoying boss fights. One thing I must know - can you IBJ?!? Wall jumping also looks dwarfed. Still a day one pickup for me.
no, bomb jumps work just like in fusion, as in it’s delayed enough to not be infinite, at least you can jump with the morph ball as soon as you get it instead of needing to get the spring ball or hi-jump boots, also i found out you can single wall jump with an upgrade about 3 hours in but it’s pretty hard to pull
Yeah really ironic that they showed THAT when Alex said it’s a spoiler free review. No idea how they didn’t notice it before releasing Good thing that this reupload exists now
I'm so glad you can bomb jump in this game. They stopped allowing that in most of the metroids but I thought I'd test it and I'm glad I did. It's bringing back super metroid vibes. I'll be taking full advantage of that mechanic ;] .
All other (2d) metroids allow infinite bomb jumping except for Fusion and the original Metroid 1 and 2. Even the Primes allow you to do atleast double bomb jumps.
Hi! How hard did you think it was? As a medium-skilled gamer I just want to know if I could get through it :) like, what kind of games do you compare the difficulty-level to?
Metroid games have a bit higher difficulty for late bosses than Zelda games. But let me put it this way. I played Metroid Prime 2, notoriously the most difficult of the entire series, and beat it to completion as a brand new gamer (it was my first video game in years aside from some Mario Kart as a kid)
I am a little bit above mediam talent and it was very difficult for me prepare to die a lot especially to bosses but you resplendent right before all the bosses and you can skip the cutscenes by pressing + - to save time
Finally played this, and yeah... It's a good! I like how the game starts with the player just trying to figure out how to traverse the map, but gradually shifts away from that, until after a certain upgrade traversal becomes trivial, and normal enemies are just resourse bags, and the game becomes all about absolutely nerve-racking (but not unfair) boss fights.
I was just gonna skip to see the numeric score at the end and leave, but after seeing that *10/10* score, I HAD TO go back and watch the whole video! xD
You think stealth is a new thing in Metroid? Clearly you never played the SA-X sections in Metroid Fusion, or the Zero suit section in Metroid Zero Mission.
SPOILERS AHEAD. This.Game.Is.Incredible. I just finished it. It is the second herald of the new age of video games succeeding to the age of OoT and SM64; the first herald of this age was BotW, and the next will be Prime 4; Odyssey though brilliant didn't change things enough to be a marker for a new age. There were definitely a couple of 'Metroid Moments', where the way forward was to shoot through an otherwise seemingly impervious edifice, or to jump across to a very obscure morph-ball corridor underwater; I don't know if I would have been able to beat the final boss without my 99% completion rate, and had I not found the extra few power-ups that I did find but only by chance through accidentally stumbling across their hiding places while scouring the map for the last ones, I even then don't think I'd have been strong enough for it; so having said that it hasn't quite eliminated the flaws of Super wherein you'll need a walkthrough to beat it. But given that the whole game is so INCREDIBLE those niggles are not much cause for concern really. This game is really something else. I haven't even watched this video yet just had to say something right away.
I don't really think you need a walkthrough to beat Super, or Dread for that matter. If you know how to use a map properly, you should always know where to look if you ever get lost. Super even tells you the boss locations on the map, so you should always have a general direction. Dread doesn't do this, but it does make a lot of improvements in map usage. Allowing you to set points of interest to come back to, highlight types of doors and blocks so you can find every place that opens up when you get a new power, and labeling every upgrade you come across are all huge improvements that I can't say many other metroidvanias do.

This game feels like the gameplay of samus returns the graphic style and spectacle cutscenes of other m the tone vibe and difficulty of fusion the world layout and area theming of am2r and the explorative nature of super Metroid
I beat the game yesterday. And it's definitely the best of most elements from the other 2d metroids. And plenty of new stuff which is great too. Probably the most fun I've had with a new game in the past few years
9:57 that’s a bold statement. But from the looks of it, I believe you might be right Alex 😄
Yes its worth it. This game is awesome. Forget ratings it's basically a perfect metroid game.
This is what I've been waiting for! You guys have the best nintendo coverage out there! :)
I've never played a Metroid game, but Hollow Knight (my all-time favorite game) completely won me over with Metroidvanias, so I am SO looking forward to this one!!
Metroid is where Hollow Knight(/any Metroidvania) got many of it's ideas from, so yeah...you'll feel right at home. ;)
"Best Metroid Game Ever?"...IT IS!!
I'm only an hour or in, but M E T R O I D
D R E A D is my favorite game of the year!
Loved that review! I'm excited I haven't been into any Metroid game since the SNES release back in the 90s! This is really a dream come true!
I first played it last night and got lost for like an hour. As a Metroid veteran I was embarrassed by myself.
Lol that's so awesome though. Being lost in such a good game is so much fun for me (:
Getting lost is part of the appeal in a Metroid game.
@@redbeardnj It was pretty fun.
@@VideoGameAnimationStudy Wait. I'm a fan of your videos! That comment was the first time I've ever commented and I got a reply from someone I watch. It might not be that big a deal... but It's still awesome.
That's part of the charme. ;) I mean who didn't get lost in Maridia the first time we played Super Metroid? Happened to me once in Dread too, but it was my own fault.
Dread got me to play the entire series for the first time over the last month. HYPED now.
I've watched a couple other Dread reviews today, and yours was easily the best and least spoilery.
I love that nintendo still makes 2D games! Old school feel with modern graphics.
Mercury Steam: 2D Metroid
Retro Studios: 3D Metroid
Just keep it like that for the foreseeable please Nintendo. (🤞 MP4 is great)
As a huge fan of fusion
I cannot wait for this
Two more days baby
lmaooo "really feel like Spiderman"! I love the self-aware reference, i've been watching some of your vids lately due to buying a Switch this weekend and you've earned yourself a sub with that nod.
Also, Alex you sound like the guy who runs the One Piece TH-cam channel Grand Line Review. So much so that I had to doublecheck.
Anyway. I suck at Metroid games but I'm gonna buy this over weekend. Cheers
Great editing at the beginning of you review with the music timing perfectly with the action on screen. Definitely have a beer for that one!
Is there a count down timer at the end?
I got Metroid with my switch oled and it’s gonna be my first Metroid game and I’m very excited
Does the game output to 1080p in docked mode? The review from the verge said its still 720p in docked mode?
it’s 1600x900 according to nintendoeverything, so right in the middle between both, portable runs at native resolution
@@oscardr2812 thanks I watched the digital foundry examination they said the same thing.
how does aiming work? all with the right stick? computer-assisted? because i am concerned how much precision aiming could be involved...
It's annoying just like SR
to use free aim you hold L and aim with the control stick, but you still can shoot like in the old metroid by just tilting the stick while moving. i never found it annoying personally
Super excited. Can't wait to pick this up with my OLED Switch and play in the dark with some hot chocolate and a soft blanket. Going to start Halloween early and get lots of candy too 🥳🥳
That’s what heaven sounds like
This is one hell of a game!!! Knocked it out of the ballpark!!!!
I'm soooo happy to hear great reviews about Dread, I've been waiting forever for a new 2D Metroid....I pre-ordered Dread and already downloaded it! Can't wait to play tomorrow 🤗
I remember the day I popped in Metroid 2 on my gameboy. It hooked me. Made me draw maps and strategy guides :D
Hope they launch samus returns on switch as well
Never played a Metroid game but tried the demo of this and love how different and refreshing it is for me. Definitely picking up the full game soon. PS it was painful watching the gameplay here vs Corpus lol
10/10 ... wow!
No criticisms and a perfect score, that speaks volumes about the quality of this game!
"really make you feel like you're spiderman"
I heard enough.
I think I have trouble aiming at, and following moving targets, with Split Pad clones.
Is it a good idea to start with this metriod? Ive never played the older ones
Yes, all backstory you need is in the beginning. You don't need any more knowledge from prior games.
It definitely helps if you've played the older games, as a lot of things in the story will definitely be more impactful. But it's not a requirement.
he said it makes you really feel like Spider-Man so I’m sold!
Is there a difficulty setting ?
5:05 I hope so because fusion had some annoying boss fights. One thing I must know - can you IBJ?!? Wall jumping also looks dwarfed. Still a day one pickup for me.
no, bomb jumps work just like in fusion, as in it’s delayed enough to not be infinite, at least you can jump with the morph ball as soon as you get it instead of needing to get the spring ball or hi-jump boots, also i found out you can single wall jump with an upgrade about 3 hours in but it’s pretty hard to pull
I've been waiting for dread since I was a kid with a GBA. Was so excited to get a "shipped" notice today for my order.
Is there FPS sections?
No. The game has some First Person View cutscenes, but no 2D Metroid game ever had FPS view. I mean why would they they are 2D.
@@theakiwar9118 I mean why not. Like in Other M. Not required but always cool.
@@glamouni shhh we don't talk about THAT here
@@glamouni What is Other M? Never heard of it
@@glamouni other M is the BAD one, you do know that right?
Just about to finish a quick play through of Fusion after also playing ZM, SR, and SM. Cannot wait!
I'm guessing the re-upload was due to *specific* footage being removed? Maybe?
Yeah really ironic that they showed THAT when Alex said it’s a spoiler free review. No idea how they didn’t notice it before releasing
Good thing that this reupload exists now
I would love a samus returns port because i never got the 3ds veesion so a port/remaster/remake of samus returns 3ds would be a joy
I'm so glad you can bomb jump in this game. They stopped allowing that in most of the metroids but I thought I'd test it and I'm glad I did. It's bringing back super metroid vibes. I'll be taking full advantage of that mechanic ;] .
The only one i can think of that doesn't allow it is fusion.
I am a little bit above mediam talent and it was very difficult for me prepare to die a lot especially to bosses but you resplendent right before all the bosses and you can skip the cutscenes by pressing + - to save time
this will be my first Metroid game
I hoped you enjoyed it I’m always glad to see new Metroid fans
Congratulations Mercury Steam!
Can't wait to play a locally made Metroid.
It should be a source of National Pride my man.... Viva Espana! and Viva Metroid!
Is it possible to sequence break, wall jump on a single wall and bomb jump?
no, you can wall jump with a trick which is hard to pull but bomb jumps are the same as fusion
Wall jumping is not possible on a single wall, but there are sequence breaks aplenty.
I wholeheartedly agree, its in my top 2 metroid games now
I'm so glad Nintendo finally let us pair bluetooth headphones with the Switch because it's the way to go with this game.
Ohhh I really want it but it’s gonna be a while before I get it. I am getting paid but damn I have other stuff to do ahhh.
Super Metroid? That was my all time favorite Metroid game.
Personally I'm just glad this game makes you feel like Spider-Man, that's all I needed.
I was just gonna skip to see the numeric score at the end and leave, but after seeing that *10/10* score, I HAD TO go back and watch the whole video! xD
It can be 10/10 of whatever if it's not charging the overpriced 60 dollar. Considering the pathetic length with 60 dollar, the 10/10 should be 6/10
You think stealth is a new thing in Metroid? Clearly you never played the SA-X sections in Metroid Fusion, or the Zero suit section in Metroid Zero Mission.
Aren't the majority of the SA-X scenes scripted in Fusion tho? Or are restricted to small areas?
True about Switch: th-cam.com/video/ouMb1N2wZCg/w-d-xo.html
Why even ask if it’s worth it? As if Nintendo Life would say it’s not worth it?
Agree why even ask? They would say worth it even if Nintendo charge 100 dollar on a 5h+ game
STOP WRITING "IS IT WORTH IT" IN EVERY REVIEWWWW AAAAAAAA. (I hope i'm not the only who thinks so) *coff coff* the review was amazing ♡
Can not wait to play this game 👌
I got chilles when the 10/10 poped up
2:51 it’s MAHVEL BAYBEE
Allowing you to set points of interest to come back to, highlight types of doors and blocks so you can find every place that opens up when you get a new power, and labeling every upgrade you come across are all huge improvements that I can't say many other metroidvanias do.
the crossed-out section is that way because youtube recognised “-text-“ there as “criss this out”.
Rule nr. 1 if you like Metroidvanias - play Metroid and (the later) Castlevanias.
This game really worth the money, imo.
I can vouch that Metroid Dread looks good on my Nintendo Switch (red box version).
This is the Metroid Dread review I wanted to see the most and you delivered so well 💕✨
The animation and movement look especially nice.
