You are correct Bob ....I had an '87 GTA and that dash is definitely from a GTA. The original guy did a lot to convert the interior.

I would flip the dash upside down on the table, then align the lines in the gauges perpendicular with the table to get them straight.

Bob said “This is my car and I’m going to keep it.” Do we take a shot after that? 😅
Anyway, great work as always. Even the Knight Rider Historians would go on for hours about trying to match screen accurate.

Hey Bob. Loyal subscriber here (Ray Sheffield). I believe you can run a smaller diameter vac hose inside the lower portion of the trans tunnel console and utalize the small vent covers and turn them to point upwards and you'll get air flow up towards your face.

Man Bob it’s so wonderful that you are such a Virgo Perfectionist regarding your build. The air conditioning vents are something that are mandatory that other builders should have done before. But it’s great to see you incorporate that in your builds. Are the noses the right length too? Lots were made that are too long.
It’s a pity that you don’t want to do A-TEAM-VANS anymore. I personally love the Red and Black also:) ❤🖤❤🖤❤

I loved Knight Rider. When you watch Knight Rider Historians channel, even their screen used original KITT isn’t perfect. They are doing great with their screen used Knight Rider semi as well. Bob it’s your car, do what you think works. Most people don’t really care. They just love to see these cars.

At 30:45 in use that Gap as your vent! Get some black slats and it will be angled right at your body vertically. You can even slice off a quarter inch of the television bracket and it'll be a larger vent in a large V shape. I bet that would be cool. 80s caddilacs had vertical ones similar to that (much larger of course.)

my .02? Put a mesh grille between the tv's and the gauges, and run the A/C there.
As a 3rd Gen Firebird Aficionado (my 1st car was a black/black 83 trans Am T-Top, my current car is a 1990 Formula 350 T-Top), I could could tell you tons of things about them, and the fact that you could get a 350 T-Top from the factory in 1987, 1989 and 1990 (But only with an automatic). In 91-92 you could only get a T-Top 350 (Automatic) Formula, but they had the Trans Am/GTA lace wheels in black instead of the factory Formula wheels when optioned as such to conform to some CAFE requirement. The 87+ dash wiring harnesses are all equipped with the plugs for the different available options, even if they did not come with them. Looking at that car in what I could see in your video, one of those plugs would have been for the Rear Defroster. GM discontinued the rear wiper option after 86.

Hey Bob this was very interesting, you are achieving excellence here.Getting air conditioning is a no question must have especially in Vegas, I always wondered why Michael Schfee didn't have any climate control vents in the dash. The design of that dash from the vendor in Mexico was a much needed move in the right direction.
I 'm happy to be a fan of Knight Rider and the other series/movies and am also a fan of your work related to them.
It's a shame that prices are out of control and Uncle Tony on utg pointed out that even basic commodities like engine oil atf, some simple replacement parts are suddenly triple or more. The early third gen Trans Am especially the parts that were more unique to the 1982 models were already artificially heightened by what some have called the "Knight Rider tax",and the artificial raised price will only increase.
As a fellow Bob also born in September ( 2) but a bit older (will be 61!)I wish you a quite long and healthy life, and am looking forward to see your progress on your personal Kitt and your other projects!

They make small cob led panels that are flat and the whole surface is essentially just one led. No bright spots, just a panel of light. You could easily find some for placement behind the mode display and they are dirt cheap. I have a pair of 6" long ones in the top of the back window of my car right at the edge of the headliner in my car to light up the back seats when the down light came on because there was no dome light, just a couple map lights on the rear video mirror. They are bright

Yeah, I'm not so sure its a flaw in the dash design for the pieces to sit "crooked" , but square elements sitting in a round dash. You gotta give and take with certain things, in my opinion. It won't make or break the car, I bet if you look at the 4k bluray episodes, you'll see how they set them up.

I think the modern way, and I know it's retro and kinda to the show I get that, but I think all that stuff could be done with LCD panels and a screen layout designed to look like all of that, and maybe make it look cooler, more modernish without going overboard. The inlays I had for awhile were separate pieces like the show.

  • @rbleisem
    @rbleisem ปีที่แล้ว

So, will you add a camera in the roof console? (to record the drive and thus help with police & insurance???)
What about the back-mirror, will one fit or not? Could be a place to hide a couple of camera's with which Kitt could see the folks sitting in his seat (even if they are fake).
As for the displays, any backwards or side looking camera's? Like looking around a corner that you as the drive have trouble seeing because you are sitting so far away from the stop line?
Basically, some drivers, comfort display options, there.
There is also the music/radio selection options as well.
Say, any Tesla self drive system laying around?
Because that I bet, would be the same itch you could have, with creating a Hurbie copy.
Making them capable of driving on their own.
Is the new (Kitt) nose lowering the cooling ability of the engine and if so, how would you increase it again?
Water cooling pipes in the nose, for a heat transfer system?
Or a modified bottom plate for the air-stream sticking to the ground effect, feeding a air-intake that ends up higher in terms of air exit point(s)?
On the other hand, two coolers, one behind each lower nose lamp strips?
Now with all the modern stuff, can the dashboard and roof console, their buttons, get actual functions?
As for that A-team van, it would have to have a back mounted engine, to account for that episode where they mounted hidden guns in the place the engine is supposed to sit in.
One that sits ---- and not I
That way the gun locker could be mounted against it.
My dad uses to have a van with a similar seating setup when I was young, great when there was a traffic jam, lots of room to play on, at te backseats & floor.
So if somebody ever goes for one, add entertainment for the backseats.

Plastic texture wrapped aluminum in the actual prop. Check out Knight Rider Historians. you can see how what was in the actual prop survives heat, it doesn't. You do not want a real car to fall apart like happened with the actual parts that were on screen Bob MUST do better for it to survive Vegas even with the window tinting. 80% of the time KITT was doing stunts there weren't pods in the car being used because you do not want that distraction on 2 wheel driving ;p I look forward to you living to 100 Bob with other people helping you get things together for the love of the props.

@RobertMoseley Regarding those lines, leave it. I honestly think it looks great, speaking as an engineer starting in an analog world. I would see it time to time in precision measurement equipment used to calibrate other equipment and it always irked me. Then you learn it’s intentional to avoid “scope creep” based on the engineers view of a gauge. When you realize it’s crooked because it’s accounted for depending on the angle of a human head and eye; it stops being annoying. And to me, the fact it isn’t perfectly straight and they go away from each other, it looks well engineered.
Consider the Taj Mahal. If the spires were perfectly straight, the Mosque would appear to be smaller… They are tilted outward, which provides an illusion that they are straight. Also to ensure they fall away from the mosque in the event of earthquake or failure.
