6:11 Yes, for sure --- I am always amazed to learn that after divorcing David Hasselhoff, Catherine Hickland married another Hollywood actor named Michael Knight, which of course was the name of The Hoff's famous character in Knight Rider ---- how's THAT for an amazing coincidence??
I truly enjoyed listening to this. My husband is a big 80s tv fan and as he was watching this, I was listening to you and how you speak. You corrected yourself often in the video, catching your words, and I loved it. In this era of A.I. and artificial voices, YOURS is true and real. You're a real person talking about something Chuck and I love. You have real emotion and I just was so relieved to hear it! Keep the imperfections!
The idea that forty one years after this series aired and we still don't a car even resembling KITT in appearance or functionality is borderline inexcusable. Thank you for the video!
Back in the day at computing class in school we were learning how to directly address memory (or a serial port connected to LEDs in this case), we were then tasked with making our LEDs do some sort of pattern....you can guess what mine was...the teacher immediately recognised it...had a big smile on his face and got the rest of the class round my pc to see it. Jeez would be around 1997/8! Still love KITT and the your content!
Dukes of Hazzard used a lot of rear-projection process for in-car shots, rather than green screen, which would have been more time consuming. Even if they did chroma-keying, it would more likely have been blue screen in the 80s. Green screen didn't become more dominant until profession digital cameras were in use. The sensors on digital cameras are more sensitive to and capture more detail in green, so it provides cleaner digital keying than blue.
Yes croma-keying would have been very obvious because of the sharp black siluetts. Very difficult to minimize that back then, even in high production movies and in TV-shows it would have looked even worse. Only time chroma-keying looked good back then was when done against black backgrounds in space, like Star Wars.
@@GarretGrayCamera They changed to green because the new digital camera capture greater detail in the green spectrum, so it makes for cleaner chroma-keying.
@@GarretGrayCamera Blue was initially used for best results with skin tones. Any colour background "could" be used for different situations and needs. Luma keying and other methods are used too. You can also change the foreground object colours to work better with a specific background. Firefox (1982) required some innovation to shoot shiny black miniature models. They used UV paint and reverse blue-screen techniques. You may need do multiple passes with different techniques then composite the layers for the final.
Love these videos - thanks for all the hard work you put into them! Re: the jackets, don't forget that Michael wore a light green/white jacket in the Season 3 Opening Episode (Knight of the Drones) in San Francisco. Can't wait for your next video!
thanks for the info I loved it, and we were poor back then had to watch KITT on a black and white TV, so the sticker thing was very much unnoticeable and besides I was just 7yrs old I only loved the car chases and KITTS unbelievable feats
20:29 I love how you include the "drawn-out fade-to-silence while partway through the theme song" music-clip here --- it reminds me of a scene towards the end of one of the K.R. episodes where David had preliminarily foiled the bad guys and saved/protected their would-be victims from immediate distress, and so it then plays this "initial triumph over evil" music-sequence, and shows a wide-angle night scene of the city where the action has been taking place, to indicate that "all is well for now, and the good guys enjoy a peaceful night", before David and K.I.T.T. perform further heroics in the morning to really "settle things" and actually bring the mercenaries to justice. :D
Dukes of Hazzard and Fall Guy didn't use green screen ( or blue screen which is normally used for film). They used rear projection which was far cheaper for all those awful driving shots. Thankfully Hardcastle & McCormick and Knight Rider almost always used mounted cameras on moving cars. DOH did at first but then moved towards almost always using rear projection.
17:31 gives great details of the early General, wrecker plate and the early paint scheme on the trailer. Look at what looks like a huge burn on the seat at 17:27.
I was a big fan of dukes of hazzard when it was airing for the first time in the early 80’s. Now that I’m middle age, I find so many things wrong it’s hard to watch it without constantly pointing out mistakes. It seems I see less when watching Knight Rider.😂
I grew up with the series (and still love it to that day!) but I have to admit that all these facts had been new to me. Keep up the great work and greetings from Austria.
As a fan of Knight Rider, I pride myself of knowing quite a trivia about the show, but I'm all too glad to admit I didn't know any of the things retold in this video. I had noticed that Michael's leather jacket changed throughout the series, being a bit of a leather jacket enthusiast myself (probably due, at least in part, to having grown up with Michael's leather jacketed figure), and always just assumed Michael owned several different black leather jackets, but I had never noticed the episodes where he doesn't wear one at all. Great video!
How about doing an episode showing everytime Michael pushed a button on a big red panel, like "Laser", or whatever. I always think it's funny that no matter how many buttons were already in the car, somehow, they had to add a button that wasn't actually there, but just in closeups! Or, where was the Super Persuit Mode switch cluster located? Things like that. Thanks
I knew the most. But the details about the scanner was new for me. Thx for that. Also when you see the insideshot at 17:25 you can see, that the whole switchpod unit between dash an gullwing, is missing - probably because of Hasselhoffs long legs to enter/exit easier.
Knew most of these, but that's because I've been fully watching every video you guys have released :) Didn't know there was three leather jackets for Michael Knight, and the three versions of KITT's scanner electronics. Talking about KITT's scanner light, I remember my mom thought at the time it's probably made by some mechanical way, some arm would move the red light bulb back and forth, but I didn't believe it, because of the trailing effect, and all-on effect at start :D I was sure even back then it's made by electronics.
@@Juggernaut30 That's interesting, didn't know this before, I was thinking the Cylon eye was also electronic. Thanks :) I remember watching at least some episodes of Battlestar Galactica before Knight Rider began.
I still cant fathom watching those jump scenes how the stunt car shop could strengthen a F-body enough to not have it be a complete pile of scrap after a jump.
To be honest never got my eye, this was all new to me. I know that it wasn't all real but he that's why I love to see these shows and truly being amazed !!! Thanks !!!
I knew most of the facts mostly from your previous discussion videos. Here's something funny though when the show originally aired I was 9 and for the longest time whenever they showed a close up of Kitt's voice modulator I thought it was located in the center of the dash. (kinda how nav screens in modern cars are now) I had to watch KR an embarrassing amount of times in rerun before I figured it out.😜
Sounds familiar. I always thought that the voicebox was located on another place, untill I saw photos of the dash itself. My first thought: oh, it’s above the stering…
Another very informative video. I will have seen most of these items but it never really registered especially the sticker dash. You can clearly see that the driver isn't David when you see K.I.T.T 'skiing' in the pilot episode
I am pretty sure....some kitts were equipped with a diffuser lense scanner and some with a plane clear red .also in kitt vs karr episode you can notice that on karr's scanner scene transitions.
Did they build one of the Stunt KITT’s with a modified rear end for the ski stunts? They had to for the General Lee’s. The rear ends wanted to shift the weight towards the ground and the tires would rub the wheel wells, limiting how far they could travel.
Hold up man lol, you saying Catherine Hickland divorced David hasselhoff and married Michael E. Knight. ...that's hilarious. I don't mean no disrespect I just think it's funny she married a guy with the same name as Michael. That is crazy, very informative video. I enjoyed it
Of course growing up in the 80s I loved Knight Rider. It was bitter sweet one day my grandpa and I were visiting a park we went to a lot I think it was Los Felis or something. It had a huge fountain. Anyway they had a bunch of kitt cars in a parking lot cause they were always filming near by so I guess it was storage. I went to look inside one of them and the whole dash was covered in lines for the show. I lost my innocence that day but yet I continued watching the show lol.
Off the subject, I would like to see Joe complete in the off road games in Utah. Matt from Matt’s off road recovery is a Knight Rider fan and even put a scanner light on one of his recovery rigs. Reach out to them if you are interested.
Others can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think those sounds were taken from (Universal's) stock sound library, and they are sounds taken from actual jet aircraft. I'll occasionally watch an old movie from the 70s & recognize one of those sounds from growing up on Knight Rider. 😂
I lived in Saugus cal... when a lot of the late 70's kid 80's television series were filmed... it was awesome my friends and I would hang out near all the actors cars and said hi when they came back from filming.
One thing you didn't mention was that the lights used to change in different shots too. Obvioiusly when he changed cars. Some shots had slats on the lights, and other shots didn't. I love Knightrider. I also spotted the bar at the front too.
Okay that was a awesome video and please do more. I did not know about who David Hasselhoff had married to that was a cool fact .I had heard that he did marry Catherine Hickland and Pamela Bach just did not know the exact time that he had married them .
Knew all of these from watching other videos here. I was also able to identify a specific episode from a single frame a buddy posted a week ago so I may have a problem :P
I have a quick question, not related to this video, but in relation to the FLAG trailer. Was there any other productions outside of Universal Studio productions that the trailer was featured in? I ask because I began to watch some of the episodes of The Fall Guy, and during the opening credits of the show, there is a clip that shows a stunt where it's the inside of a trailer and a car comes rolling up into it in it's montage. Now I know the show proper production used some of the Trans-Ams from the train wreck, but the opening credits of The Fall Guy used stunt clips from various movies (such as the high fall from The Poseidon Adventure) and the one showing the car driving up into a trailer looks to have come from another movie. So, does anyone know if the trailer used for the FLAG semi had any appearances film appearances not related to MCA/Universal TV shows? Or was the clip used in The Fall Guy opening credits was just another trailer that just so happen to have the same kind of drive-up ramp?
Really enjoy this showing all the tape & extra bolts holding KITT together. I also have the series on DVD, and in the episode where Michael loses his memory KITT once dud a Turbo-Boost but landed with a (slightly) dented lower body & hood. Like you said, 'not-so-indestructible'. I'm curious about the first photo showing Don Johnson & a black 1983 DATSUN280ZX(btw, you can still see the "280ZX" badge). There was no explanation or comment re. these things; what gives? It was great seeing your video re. K.I.T.T. vs K.A.R.R. Part of that one with John Stanton dropping off his girlfriend was Main St. in Seal Beach, CA, my home town (a sheet of script also had SEAL BEACH typed on it). Thanks again for this.
Who would've thought, i have my hub caps bolted on the same way as real kitt crazy how i was able to duplicate their trick with out knowing so, now when people try to tell me i messed them up i can show them this and i guess im screen correct yey
I'm in a sort of negative ave how GM engineers didn't think of the solution used by EVERYONE else; ports for the screws in hubcaps in shaped in such way they would catch just the very tip of the wheel screws so no torque is applied to them, but they can't go off unless you unscrew whole wheel. Engineers are amazing, but sometimes they have amazingly stupid ideas.
I enjoyed that Joe. Some stuff I knew from watching previous videos, but some stuff was new to me. Maybe a top 10 video focused on the semi would be a neat topic. Thanks again 👍

Thank you very much for your 10 Facts about KITT and Knight Rider. I really did not know, this Incredible insider Information. I am just a Life time Fan of Knight rider. This was my Friday night treat i used to watch with my Mum and Dad. Some very Happy memories you have brought back for me my Friend. Knight Rider and KITT still live on today on the Television. Thank you very much for sharing. Jonathan. ☺☺☺☺💯💯💯👍👍👍👍
I kbow all of these facts.Thankyou for this interesting video Joe.Not wishing to upset anyone but could it be possible David met Pamela on Knight Rider while still married to Catherine and he cheated on her with Pamela and that's why they got a divorce?
I always enjoy a list. I didn't know the extent of the sticker dash use. That trailer-convertible sticker dash looks really bad. Like some fan got it wrong. But did I see a line-lock indicator lamp on it?
You can see why they opted for the limited scanner on the intro because there is white light bleed on the right when on full mode where it's broken or something and you can see the bulb light
I didn't know about these! My childhood is ruined! 😩 I do remember as a kid being told by a so called friend that KITT was a Volkswagen beetle with the roof trimmed down when it came to stunt scenes.
also not to be mean or cruel was it the way when stevie was taken away in the cop car and then micheal finds something in the ashtray like with a ring that stevie left for micheal to find ?
I gotta ask so what happened to that first micro processor scanner? did it get shelved, changed or wrecked, as it seems pretty unique, also how did they manage to do the skiing with the cars without starving the engine of oil or wrecking the thing, as that cant of been easy on the cars
got to see KITT clone car recently in Florida..& got to see one of the actual show cars as a kid in California..long live K.I.T.T. ...and K.A.R.R. too! lol

We do have smart watches though...
The 1982 Trans-Am was kinda close in terms of looks... 😂😂😂
We went to the moon in 1969 and not anymore.
Well we have Teslas which are pretty close. Heck lots of the features in cars nowadays like touchscreens would have been futuristic in the 80s
I own the leather jacket from auction. Great to own a peace of Knight Rider history!
Great score! Congrats!

I love these videos! Thank you!
The on;y one i didn't know was Stevie actually being David's wife. Also I knew that girl looked a lot like David, didn't know she was his sister
I knew most of these things. Some from watching the show and some from the KRH channel
Pamela Bach? Related to Catherine? Duke boys meeting Kitt? That could be fun. It may also be funny.
Amazing !! Thank you so much, be safe, god bless
I really want a full size fully operational third season dash with scanner in my room
Thank you for sharing !!
I kbow all of these facts.Thankyou for this interesting video Joe.Not wishing to upset anyone but could it be possible David met Pamela on Knight Rider while still married to Catherine and he cheated on her with Pamela and that's why they got a divorce?
Knew most of it but didn't know Mulhare actually give Hickland away in the real wedding and didn't know about David's sister being in the show.
😂 That last "sticker" dash looks like it was straight up done with cut strips of automotive vinyl stripping tape.
Thank you for your insight videos, merry christmas from Austria.
also not to be mean or cruel was it the way when stevie was taken away in the cop car and then micheal finds something in the ashtray like with a ring that stevie left for micheal to find ?
I gotta ask so what happened to that first micro processor scanner? did it get shelved, changed or wrecked, as it seems pretty unique, also how did they manage to do the skiing with the cars without starving the engine of oil or wrecking the thing, as that cant of been easy on the cars
Excellent
got to see KITT clone car recently in Florida..& got to see one of the actual show cars as a kid in California..long live K.I.T.T. ...and K.A.R.R. too! lol
