    My ex wife said a family man should not drive a 911. In the end I kept the 911 and got rid of the wife

      My lady on the other hand told me, if you want it and you can afford it, without jeopardising anything else, go for it, life is for the living! She doesn't like speed though, so have to be gentle on the throttle when she's in the car😂. Sometimes I am below the speed limit and she tells me I am going too fast 😂, even though she's a right Schumacher when she drives her little Mini Cooper 😂😂😂. Cracks me up...

    Being a 56 year old Porsche virgin - the biggest one for me is that not all Porsche owners are pretentious snobs. I own an 04 986S and I love it - couldn’t give a monkey’s chunky about what others think but all of the owners of far nicer car than mine are always very complimentary (and I’m not smelling sheeite either). It’s a great community that’s very, very diverse. It’s actually far less wanky than I ever thought it would be, so if you are thinking of pulling the trigger on a Porsche at whatever level you can afford - go for it.

    They are just damn good sports cars. I have recently purchased a new one and went through the configuration adventure. Turns out you don’t need leather wrapped air vents, a $5000 sound system and carbon fibre roof to enjoy the car. Mine is pretty basic and is still amazing because very few options actually affect the drive.

    • @williamjackson5357
      @williamjackson5357 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I must agree 💯, very few options ever affect the driver of a Porsche. I have a 981 Cayman Base and the driving experience is exhilarating 🏎

    I currently own a 997.1 S automatic and love it. I have been a mechanic for 50 years and know cars, Porsches are well engineered, classic styling, and fun to drive. At the end of the day it’s what puts a smile on our face when we drive our cars.

  • @user-dv9yu3cg5p

    Totally agree with the value myth. I started my Porsche journey in a £9k 987.1 base Boxster. All the time I owned it I loved it but was thinking that a more expensive newer model would be even better. Ended up spending three times as much on a 987.2 Cayman S - great car but I genuinely preferred the flying around in the Boxster. The Cayman has now gone and I’m on the hunt for a well cared for base 987 Boxster again - £10k max!!

    I daily drive a Panamera S. It has loads of horsepower and I can take my friends out to dinner in style. It might not be as “good” as a 911, but having a huge backseat definitely makes up for it.

    Funnest cars I have ever owned. After many higher end models that were garage queens, I now have base 911 (992) and boxter S (718) and putting on the MILES. Great community of drivers.

    In my opinion service papers do matter, especially for classic Porsche‘s with high mileage.
    It is key to have a documented history and exactly that you only can prove with a seamless service book; best of all, stamped by Porsche dealers (or other approved garages; but not privately stamped). Today so much cheating with false mileage and history of classic cars. That’s why.

    I bought a 997 c2s at the end of 2022, with tons of history as it was my best mate's car and I love it! No pretentiousness, just fun. I have various other cars, which I love too (BMW Z4 e85 3.0i, 406 coupe 3l V6) and it's all about the fun of driving these 😎🥳

    I bought a 5th hand 996 Carrera 4 Cabriolet just over 12 years ago. I commuted in her every day until I retired. Wonderful. An absolute delight. I stay away from the main dealer and use a local specialist. Perhaps it was paranoia but I had the IMS bearing upgraded last year - just in case. It's her 24th birthday in May. Big party? Hood down accompanied by that Flat-6 Symphony is Ooooooh!

    Love my 996.2 I laugh every time I think of what I paid for it. It already had the IMS bearing fix on it. And the fried egg headlamps have grown on me and I intend to show them off proudly!

    • @williampotter2098
      @williampotter2098 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I don't even think about the yellow on my headlights. I think the fried-egg thing started because the "cool kids" were just trying to disparage the new cheap water-cooled design. Kind of like the hatred for the Dino among Ferrari aficionados, I think people have forgotten they are supposed to dislike both of those cars. The early Boxsters were a revolution and the Dino was just a gorgeous car. (but I quit lusting after one when I learned that my cheap Boxster had faster specs than the crazy money Dino)

    In 2010 I bought a 987.2 Cayman S, as I wasn't going to deal with the previous generation engine with it's flaws that are very expensive to rectify and at one time there was nothing short of buying a new long block for them. I'll be keeping this one for a long time and I do all my own servicing and modifications.

    In regards to servicing. My 2012 997.2 GTS 4 manual cabriolet is about at 40,000 miles. That's one of the bigger services as recommended And, will be twice as expensive at a Porsche dealer here in the US versus a reputable foreign car specialist I have used. What are your thoughts there? This service requires spark plugs, coils, etc.
    thank you
    Phil.

    • @alsatch_
      @alsatch_  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If it’s the big service then it might be a good idea to get that one done at a good specialist. It’s all about finding the right balance for you and also thinking about if you plan to keep for a long time, or sell it on soon.

    Ok right off the bat don't buy cars (or any luxury item for that matter) as investments. With very few exceptions you will lose money. And when it comes to cars if it does appreciate unless it is a truly rare car the value will fall. Look at where pre war cars were 10 to 15 years ago compared to now. In the next 10 or so years prices of 60s and 70s will start falling.
