Drug and therapy, couldn't have put it better mate. I sold my manual C2S 997 which I used for therapy every Sunday and bought a 2012 Cayenne Turbo. I do regret selling the 997, I'm about to sell the cayenne to pick up 997.2, the Cayenne Turbo is a great car but not one I'd miss, just something about those 911's that makes you smile
I also sold my 997 Carrera S, 2005, a year ago. Miss the sound, cleaning the body. It is a dam sexy car, It is so fluid, almost like a gorgeous woman...
10:43- "This car for me is like a drug and a therapy"! I'm not new to the channel but a new Porsche owner (2013 981 Boxster S) and this statement nails what Porsche driving is to me....well said!
If you’re talking 997, don’t buy anything until you’ve at least seen a 2010 Sport Classic. The 911 reached its peak in purity of design and engine efficiency in this edition. Better have deep pockets tho as they run over $400,000. But what a breathtaking beauty.
Spoken like a true Porsche fanatic! Great review and I love the spec on your 997.1. The only thing I’d mention is in your comparables: the price of an NSX is well beyond that of any 997, save for a well optioned GT3. But I’d still take the 997! 🙂
Prices here in the US have soared form the time of this vid. Looking at $70k plus for a 997.1 Carrera S that’s is sorted. GT-3 around $140K plus. Great vid
yes...They have climbed with the rest of the used car market. I have a 997 Targa 4s with full Fabspeed Intake, Exhaust and Tune with HKS Springs and Sway Bars and Turbo wheels!!! Amazing Ride
I like that you mentioned that some of these issues are blown way out of proportion haha.. Before I bought I spent WAYYY too much time on the forums, freaked myself out.. then got over it.
Easily the best car review I've seen on TH-cam regarldess of make or model. That said every single piece of info in here is pot on w the 997.1 & .2s. Thank you for sharing your experience. Subscribed!
Excellent video. Enjoyed watching. I agree and glad to hear that you will keep this as long as you can. I just got a 2010 997 Carrera manual transmission. It has been one week and I just love it.
Well done Satch on yet another down to earth say it as is no nonsense video. The more clips you do the more professional you get. At this stage you should be looking at a presenting career in my opinion.
How on earth did you manage to get a picture of my Ford focus? Just gone all in with a pristine, immaculate concours 997.2 - 0 regrets - its 'effin amazing - slate grey with red callies - looks the biz - also upgraded to the new Porsche infotainment retro fit module - which is life changing as upgrades go thanks Porsche Tewkesbury the boys girls and 'theys' are spot on
Just recently did a tour of Scotland (NC500) in my 997 CS2 manual over 10 days, family of 4 was the perfect car for the job and we had enough room for all our clothes! Wouldn’t change it for anything!
#16 - Use the door handle to close the driver and passenger doors. Don't shut door by touching the glass or the door side or you will need to clean your car (again). Top vid as always.
Nice to see my hater is back. the guy who calls the police on people. Eric Beam where have you been? Although we all know Eric is not your real name, in fact you've had about 100 names haven't you. Sad little boy. I feel sorry for you, stalking me like this is not healthy for you. Surely your time would be better spent on your home & family life yeah? Maybe not.......
I’m looking for a 997.2 manual but here in my country (Mexico) is not an easy thing, PDK are normal in the market. Great videos and content, new follower here.
911 Turbo 997.1. Was my favorite Porsche 911 until the 992 Turbo that just came out. I absolutely loved the rims on that 997.1. With that said, if I was to purchase either the 997.1 or 997.2 I would go with the 997.2 as there PDK transmission is much, much better then the Tiptronic transmission found in the 997.1. Great Review nonetheless glad I stumbled on to your page.
I have a 2008 997 manual Turbo and absolutely love it. These cars need to be driven hard at least once a week. The last of the analogue Porsche’s. Will also keep it for ever.
Watched this so many times over last year along with all your videos, now I am weeks away from shopping for my dream 911. It will be a 997 4s. I feel you very straight talking so could do with honest answer. As a weekend and road trip car is it worth having the .2 or am I being vein. Has to be Auto 😳
That was the first thing I thought of as well. I absolutely loathe big logo/Polo shirts or clothes. Being subtle and stealth is the way to be. And no Guards Red Porsches either.
Nice piece on the basics of why you should buy a 997. I’m looking to get back into ownership and I’m stuck between either gen 1 or gen2. With the issues you mention it’s a tough choice getting a gen 1 when those issues are more likely than not going to cost you £1,000s (engine rebuild) potentially. You have a gen1 so how do you feel about it? Keep up the good work 👍
Great enthusiasm but you mislead any potential 997.2 buyer that the fuel consumption is as poor as you say. The DFI engine is very efficient. I get 25 mpg overall, the computer flatters it to show 28mpg. I use the performance when it's appropriate and on long motorway runs get 30mpg measured by filling brim to brim. The PDK helps with the long 7th gear, effectively an overdrive ratio. I agree the 911 is a drug. It's mind bending. Thanks for 7 videos
I have been watching your channel for some time, your doing a GREAT JOB. I don't have a Porsche or intend to buy one (too tall) but love watching. Thanks
Excellent informative review Bud. Can't understand how your channel hasn't popped up on my " Recommended" page. Subscribed. Will hopefully be in a position to buy a 997 C2s in just over a years time (Coroni allowing) or sooner if i'm brave enough to spend our nest egg early. Stunning 911 by the way. Forever car...
Very useful and helpful. Only one missing point for me is the answer for the question: has 997 enough comfort for for the person 190 cm tall? Are the chairs big enough to cover your top back sufafce? Anyway great job done and I want more. Take care Arek
12 -16mpg Holy shit , I know you said that’s about town I never get as low as that , in mixed driving the trip computer says 23-24 On a long long on motorway you can get 30 mpg It’s not an issue for me either but I think the fuel consumption is good , it’s on par with some of the hot hatches I’ve had
I was expecting more technical details on how to make a good purchasing decision on a 997. Instead I got this Porsche propaganda piece - and it's working! The more people talking me into buying one, the better! Keep it up!
Sold my 997 Carrera S about a year ago. Miss the sound, the power, the curves of the body car. It's a beautiful car, sexy lines, drives our souls, touches our inner wild side. Elegant and enthusiastic as a beautiful woman.. Miss you....
Apparently the big bang ims issue on the 997.1 affect less than 1% of cars. Doesn't stop me keeping my fingers crossed every time i go for a drive though. ( 9 years and counting)
Very informative, thank you! By the way, a few points: 1. bad video quality. With better camera your videos will be rocks! 2. you way too many times asked for subscribe, it doesn't work that way Anyway, good work and keep going!
Hey Satch, since you also owned a 987 Cayman S. How does the 997 Carrera S compare? I been kicking around the idea of maybe selling my 2006 Cayman S for a 997 era Carrera S. Thoughts?
Your logo is illegal/ copyright infringement of UPS. You may want to change that mate before they sue you and you have no more money to buy Porsche’s or make cool videos for us. Keep up the great work! 😉
Hi all!! My 997 gen 58,000 miler just discovered a coolant leak ! Expansion bottle empty… refilled empty again over night! Can’t see leak on front crossover pipes … but fluid leaking from front end underbody panels !! Hope it’s not an engine out fix?
Thx for the info! I am scared of the bore scoring issue! I hear a lot of horror stories! if i get a scope done during the PPi i should be good? No way do i want to pay 20k for a rebuild! Don,t get me wrong i have no problem spending money to maintain it but not 20k!
As a owner of Mercedes c class for letting ng period,I have to say that Germans don't know how to make a quality vehicles and products. They are unreliable, rusty and poor quality
Another Honest review of what it's like in the real world to own a porsche. Well done satch. Just Enjoy .🙂
Just bought a 997 s manual collecting it sat I'm absolutely buzzing loved them since I was a kid !

I’ve got the same 981 and you’re right he nails it with that statement!

indeed! I spilled my coffee when I heard "GT3 for $70 thousand pounds" I'll freaking drive it back! 😄
yes...They have climbed with the rest of the used car market. I have a 997 Targa 4s with full Fabspeed Intake, Exhaust and Tune with HKS Springs and Sway Bars and Turbo wheels!!! Amazing Ride
Yes the COVID bubble. Now they’re dropping back to the prior values.
I like that you mentioned that some of these issues are blown way out of proportion haha.. Before I bought I spent WAYYY too much time on the forums, freaked myself out.. then got over it.

What is your 1 year review
Well done Satch on yet another down to earth say it as is no nonsense video. The more clips you do the more professional you get. At this stage you should be looking at a presenting career in my opinion.
Most of your points are useful. The driving experience is so addicted. It's a keeper for sure. You are lucky!
Like the sport seats, the "hardbacks" are a nice look. Got a pair for my Cab S.
Thanks for this, very useful indeed.
997.2 manual here I come!
How on earth did you manage to get a picture of my Ford focus? Keep looking, the manual is the only way to go!
Great ethos and video. Very much appreciated. Im in.
Great insight again to ownership. Some stunning shots of your car and references.
Nice glimpse of the quayside , haven’t seen it for many years
Right on point Satch. Enjoy the rest of the summer. Happy driving!
Satch, great video as always.
Luckily I bought a super clean low mileage 1 owner 6 speed manual 997.1 C4s and it is awesome!!
Belated congrats! Still happy with it?
My 2011 C4S in Seoul makes me feel like teenager again! Great review!!!
THank you for the video. I didn't know 997 still having IMS bearing problem. I thought it was only with 996 models.
911 Turbo 997.1. Was my favorite Porsche 911 until the 992 Turbo that just came out. I absolutely loved the rims on that 997.1. My girl friend likes to be driven hard. Wife doesn’t like it
That’s what my wife says, she wants to be driven hard once a week
As will I.

Get a pdk if you going with a auto
Perfect psychological summary of what these cars deliver to us ! And nice polo shirt ! 🏇🏻🏑 yves 🇫🇷
Great advice mate 👍
Quite a sensible test session
Great video as always and agree with you on everything you said top cars 👍
It seems a while since you posted, best wishes from Australia
Great vid, thanks for the info, enjoyed the jokes. Hate the background music and dubious about yr moniker the rainmaker.
Lovely car. Like!
I can’t get over that shirt mate, love the car regardless
That was the first thing I thought of as well. I absolutely loathe big logo/Polo shirts or clothes. Being subtle and stealth is the way to be. And no Guards Red Porsches either.
Very useful vid Satch, thanks a bunch!
Your video was ace mate 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
awesome review! 👍
Good comments and evaluation of 911

Thanks
I'm 6'3, getting in and out of a 911 makes you realize not to skip "leg day" at the gym.
I’m 6’4” there is more than enough room in my 997
Grab yourself a Cayenne then. You can even raise the air suspension to help entry and exiting the motor.
Very good advice. Thanks fro posting.
My 997.1 C4 always makes me smile,great review 👍🏾
Great stuff, keep it up Satch
Love this video!! Very useful.
Excellent advice, cheers 👍🏻
Very useful and helpful. Only one missing point for me is the answer for the question: has 997 enough comfort for for the person 190 cm tall? Are the chairs big enough to cover your top back sufafce?

12 -16mpg
Holy shit , I know you said that’s about town
I never get as low as that , in mixed driving the trip computer says 23-24
On a long long on motorway you can get 30 mpg
It’s not an issue for me either but I think the fuel consumption is good , it’s on par with some of the hot hatches I’ve had
I agree
Mines my daily and not too bad on juice, mud 20’s I reckon
Can get near 30 on the motorway in my turbo.
If you a keeping your foot in it 12 mpg is realistic. If you are just cruising it will go up to what they state.
Great vid as ever Satch, almost tempting me to change my 996, I say almost 😉👍🏼
Fantastic video - Thank you 😊👍
Very nice 👍👍👌regards from 🇪🇸 and Olli
Love the video
Luv da car n luv da channel.

Apparently the big bang ims issue on the 997.1 affect less than 1% of cars. Doesn't stop me keeping my fingers crossed every time i go for a drive though. ( 9 years and counting)
I got grounded with bore scoring , now it’s being rebuilt to a 4L displacement
Very informative, thank you!
By the way, a few points:
1. bad video quality. With better camera your videos will be rocks!
2. you way too many times asked for subscribe, it doesn't work that way
Anyway, good work and keep going!
Hey Satch, since you also owned a 987 Cayman S. How does the 997 Carrera S compare? I been kicking around the idea of maybe selling my 2006 Cayman S for a 997 era Carrera S. Thoughts?
question i had was, 997 911 carrera s ?
997 991 carrera 4s?
whats the difference and which one would you guys advice ?
One is four wheel drive and the other isn’t
Good explanation man👍🏼
top vid !!

Like your channel..... Cheesy shirt...........
I'll just keep my '99 996 Gen 1 w/ 55k well sorted .. New everything w/ engine out at 50k. I'm good to 100k..
BTW, is the "Rainmaker" moniker related to "DC Rainmaker" I think you mentioned once they you enjoy cycling...
Thank you for the video! Would you recommend getting these remapped? My car has 325bhp, believe the mapping adds another 30bhp.
Should be a whole 8 HP, the rest of the gains come from high flow cats and headers
Thx for the info! I am scared of the bore scoring issue! I hear a lot of horror stories! if i get a scope done during the PPi i should be good? No way do i want to pay 20k for a rebuild! Don,t get me wrong i have no problem spending money to maintain it but not 20k!
It’s greatly exaggerated
Crazy how much the prices in US differ. Pretty much double and even triple the prices in the UK.
Buy uk and ship it back, that’s what I’m looking at
why has this car doubled in price since 2 years ago?
997.1 Carrera S or e92 M3 - what would be pros and cons? Whoever can share real experience, I’d highly appreciate that.
Are the PDKs robust and dependable transmissions?
They are about the best transmission in the world.
Yes, pretty much bulletproof
RainMaker, What have you done to the weather !! 😂
Exelent
Don’t advice anyone to get a tiptronic. Tried it - hated it.....
The pdk is NOT a manual transmission
Everyone can skip ahead to :52 when he actually stops repeating the title of his video for the 70th time.
They are much more expensive on the European continent. Under 30k, you will only get a 996. Thanks for the video.
997.2 is ok but the 991 is so much more car for your money and doesn't cost a whole lot more
glad saying you buck, buck to business,
Jest buy inUSA this car price : 57.900$
UK ? 🤭
Actually, the C8 (as referenced May 2022) is the o n l y logical option vs the 997.2, everything else is seriously, not a relevant suggestion.
A small point ......997 "dot" 2 should read 997 point 2, its grating to hear you keep saying it
pretty low bar on the grating scale. I'm grateFul for the thoughtful review..
Is the polo shirt you're wearing compulsory for 997 drivers😂 The car has more style than the driver
If you are really worried about MPG when you are buying a real sports car then a Porsche isn’t for you….
15, I have only time for 5, time is money
Its s Gen one. Keep it.
Why is the steering wheel on thw wrong side? Who wants such a Porsche? :p
that fuking polo
Loves name brand stuff
If I was to sell the Cayman....
1. BORE SCORING
2. IMSB
3. BORE SCORING
4. IMSB
…
i need to get rich man
As a owner of Mercedes c class for letting ng period,I have to say that Germans don't know how to make a quality vehicles and products. They are unreliable, rusty and poor quality
they are all quite a noisy car
Why even wear a helmet when your track, that is not gonna save your life if you crash goin 75 miles an hr. Lol
I wear a helmet on my bicycle. I hit speeds of up to 13 km hour
