Its gotta be the Legion Go for me, unless there is a real need for high GPU memory (such as hosting your own AI). For me, the legion go is not just a laptop replacement, its literally an iPad Pro killer, because it runs windows 11 full desktop in a tablet format.
I Love the form factor of handheld pc.. it can be a handheld gaming device when on the go, and can act as ultra compact pc when I work on the desk (I connect it to monitor, mouse, keyboard, etc)
Really a very nice video, i love your way of editing and storytelling :) Beside of that, I got my Legion Go about 2 weeks ago and I am impressed so far. I would say, that this is not the 'typical Handheld' for console gamers that aren't used (- or dont like) to tweak and modify every day a bit on their OS or setup (they will be better on with the ally or steam deck), but for people like me, trying different Operating systems, checking out millions of diffent settings and programms... it is just a fun machine. In the last two days i've tried to replace my work station and what can I say... IT WORKED... For the GO replaced my Laptop (MS Surface) and I am still happy about it :D
I love my Lenovo. sold my laptop bcuz my Lenovo more portable and requires less components to get playing on the go. plastic controller comes with five Xtra buttons, that detach from the screen, so it's extremely easy to pack it away pretty much anywhere u need. I honestly thought I'd experience buyers remorse but I couldn't have been more wrong. I utilize for so many things. love it so much
The Legion Go in real life has to be seen to be believed, it's a joy to play on. Large, vibrant screen, powerful enough to run just about anything, minimum heat on your hands, whisper silent fan noise, I can't stop playing it sitting on my living room sofa. I have 5.5"-7" handhelds, and they're not half as fun to play as the Legion Go. It's really something else.
Coincidentally I started on this video while my brother was setting up the Legion Slim 5 laptop I picked for him. Which has the same outer chassis design, but we went for the AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS and the (mobile) RTX 4060. The former as the writing of Intel's upcoming chip problems has been on the walls for a long time, in hindsight a very wise choice. The latter as the performance difference between the 4060 and 4070 was not worth forgoing the genuinely good sale this laptop was on. And the Legion Slim 5 over the HP Victus or other cheaper models as we want a machine that will last well over time. Along with wanting a good keyboard, though the board on my other brother's ThinkPad X13 is and the one on my TP e585 was nicer (it is moderately worn now). Compared to the Legion Go, the Steam Deck's keyboard is faster and nicer to use after enabling Trigger Clicks and learning to use this. Which I have gotten decent at after some practice and prefer over most touchscreen based keyboards. But it doesn't hold a candle to proper laptop keyboard, let alone a proper mechanical board like my New Model M (from a typing only perspective). I'm not afraid to choke my Steam Deck in it's case or my laptops on a pillow. The former still draws in enough air through the triggers to work as a media player, when gaming with it I use it as the controller. And with the laptops, I can move it if it throttles too hard, but usually it handles TH-cam fine. On all our laptops the battery is far enough away from the heat generating chips to avoid degradation, I am not afraid to cook the chips as they're made to run hot anyway. But I do make sure to properly maintain the cooling system, re-pasting it after 2-ish years and cleaning it thoroughly on a yearly bases, for longevity. My own laptop can barely manage 4 hours of productivity when lowering the screen brightness, struggling to reach 2 hours with any form of video playback. Which it did the moment I had it, the now 6 year old battery impressively still is at 89% health and not noticeably degrading, so I get the tradeoff. The bother with the Legion Slim 5 doesn't really run the thing from the battery much, but I expect it to be better than mine. The brother with the TP X13 uses it on the battery almost exclusively, I think he's achieving well over 6 hours, unless when gaming. Which fits each character well, I keep the old(-ish) crap going for way too long, one brother plugs in to the wall any time he uses it, the other uses it off the battery all the time and only charges when needed. The latter only charging when needed approach is how I have started treating my e-Ink phone. It's a Hisense A5 CC Pro Color, next to it's bigger brother the only Colour e-Ink phones on the market, which I imported through Ebay as a bit of a gamble as I hit the limits of my Moto G5. I had to undo most the tingling the seller did to hack on old Huawei Google Services, replacing those with MicroG, but have been very satisfied with the device myself. This is relevant, as I use my laptop or Steam Deck more for the tasks this e-Ink struggles to display in a usable fashing. In a way this makes it a fully featured feature phone, or as I call it, a proper phone as a communications device and not a small tablet that happens to have mobile connectivity. For the graphical power part, it's the GameBoy thing all over again. What matters is the quality of the games and the battery life or convenience. Steam Deck verified offering some form of Nintendo Seal of Quality equivalent, though either are or have become meaningless as an actual grantee of quality. Instead bringing an expectation that the hardware can probably mostly play it well enough.
Wow, the Obsidian graph means business to me! It shows that something significant is happening in the creator's mind. I'm curious about how well it handles an Obsidian graph with 13,000 of my notes. My MacBook Air M1 with 8GB of RAM is really struggling. I'm wondering if the Legion Go in the dock mode performs better in this regard. What do you think?
I love handhelds but if I had to choose I'd still keep my gaming laptop. The additional power and the ability to do additional productivity without any accessories is much better. Plus the screen on my laptop is 16in so it's much easier to work with smaller screen scaling as that way I can see more stuff on screen. It also can last a while when doing normal things and fan noise isn't too bad either unless I have it in max performance mode when gaming. My preferred handheld is the ROG Ally X as I find it the perfect size as a PC handheld. It's quiet and get's very long battery life when gaming. I also like the Legion GO and Deck OLED but they don't get the same play time as my Ally X.
I just realize one of the most advantage of a hand held is defeated by a laptop, I use a steam deck but my steam deck consume more space than a normal laptop
First I just want to say that this is a fantastic video! Now regarding the topic, I have this question in my mind for weeks! I want to buy a Windows machine mainly for Game Pass and Steam titles but I don't want a gaming laptop because I already have a MacBook and a PS5. So I look into the gaming handheld territory and boy there's a lot of unique options that I keep going on circles. Should I buy the Ally X for bigger battery? or the GPD Win Mini for its sleek form factor? or the Legion Go for it's 3 in 1 capability? or should I just ditch my MacBook and just get a full gaming laptop instead? After weeks of searching I made up my mind and bought the Legion Go. So why did I pick it over the rest? Here are the reasons: - I want a portable Windows machine that I can use for gaming + productivity which, with the almost 9" screen this is possible compared to other 7" handheld. - I don't plan to use it handheld since it's more comfortable for me to put on a table and play using external controllers. - Controllers can be detached so I can also use it as tablet (thinking of selling my iPad Mini now lol) and can use it in formal/work setting. - I don't plan to play modern AAA games since I have the PS5 for that. The LeGo is powerful enough to run AAA titles at low settings and I am happy that I can play indie games as well! - I really thought about this but I think I will regret it if I ditched the MacBook Air for a gaming laptop since I love working using macOS. But like what you've said, if I'm starting from scratch, I will pick the gaming laptop over the handheld. But for my use case, the LeGo is obviously the better choice :)
I can see arguments for both. I was and still kind of am leaning towards laptop simply because it more practical. But I have seen some accessories where with a MagSafe stand and a compact keyboard you can actually do a surprising amount with the go.
Most people would already have a laptop so getting another laptop just for gaming seemed redundant, you might as well get a handheld which is cheaper and serves the purpose without adding more tech waste into your life
4:52 The alternative option is actually 240Hz and not 260Hz. Its a shame the Legion 7i runs on an Intel HX CPU which is plagued with instability and degradations issues, otherwise it would very easily be the best gaming laptop of 2024.
legion go is like a small surface pro but for gaming. even top tier surface pro couldnt handle gaming. lego alsothe most versatile pc handheld. tablet and first person mode are the best features along with great big sharp screen. it only needed front back cameras better speaker, and bigger battery
There is currently an 8645HS/4050 HP Victus currently on sale at Walmart for $599. It needs more RAM immediately (8gb) and only has a 512 SSD. However, for not alot of money, it's a pretty nice looking laptop. I don't have a need for one currently, but at that price...it's pretty tempting, and while signifcantly larger, would smoke any handheld. I do love my Steam Deck though. Cheers.
its gaming handhelf for me as well but i'm paranoid about repearability of such tiny devices especially when there are joysticks involved im wait and see user review then jump on the bandwagon
handhelds have so small screen despite that the analog sticks killed the concept of portably. a laptop or a tablet with amd APU is going to be much better

Amd driver updates are too far apart. It hasn't had a graphics driver update in 6 months. Plus the fan is loud when you're playing aaa games.

But arts just aren't part of STEM. Unless this was an intended pun.
the kind of games you play. you dont need both. just a mobile phone would be better.
