The "old formula" was what we used in the U.S. Army. It made the top on the Project Farm channel. It was aggressively used beyond the given product instructions in order to pass a detailed inspections by the NCO's.
The preservative aspect in the formula was not necessary because we were so very frequently cleaning the weapons. They made us clean the weapons even if was just stored in the arms room without being fired. I have a can of the old formula today. Still has that same smell.

Thanks for watching! The new "MIL-SPEC" formula definitely works better on burnt gun powder compared to the old "black can" formula.

Break-Free CLP has always been my gold standard by which everything else is judged. Being an armorer I go through gallons of this stuff every year. I do prefer Radcolube CLP because I think it cleans a little bit better and the scent smells like grape juice.

We Sincerely Appreciate all your time spent on doing these tests and then posting on TH-cam .
It’s not easy to do .
And this was done with care .
I’m sitting here with a new can of the Mil Spec CLP ( the gun store salesman recommended), and I’m ready to CLP my shotgun.
I just wanted to see what folks are saying before I apply this product to the shotgun.
Better safe than sorry haha .
    Well I’m sold now .
Sure I have faith in what the salesman had said but a second opinion by someone who actually used the product , gives me piece of mind .
I’m ready to CLP the weapon now .
Again - I sincerely Thank You for taking the time to post this .
    Very Very Cool 🤠

Nice comparison/test. My friend gave me a bottle of Break Free decades ago when he was serving on the USS Nimitz. He told me it was a new product that they were using and that I should try it. Been using it since then and I've been satisfied with it's performance. Thanks for the informative video.👍🏻

I've done similar tests with similar results using IMR powder. One thing I notice with CLP is if you clean your gun with it, if you disassemble in a week, your gun might look dirty again. That's because CLP is always doing a little more cleaning even after it looked clean initially. I really like it for corrosion protection too. The Break Free brand is cheap and virtually odorless so it's my go to.

      It's not cheap, a 4oz.can is around $8 bucks whereas I can get a 10oz. can of Rem-Oil for the same price. That's a 6oz. difference.

I can tell you outside of using an ultrasonic cleaner, Hoppes is the best cleaner imo and CLP is an economical all around product. Clenzoil is hands down the best corrosion protection lubricant I’ve used. I was a gunsmith in humid South Florida for almost 30 years and Clenzoil was the best rust inhibiting product other then applying the thick sticky spray coating of shooters choice rust prevent. Shoot safe and shoot straight. ✌️

Not so much what you use as it is to actually use something..........The reason so many Old Timers that have guns from the 40s & 50s and they still look great is because they cleaned and lubed them after use......The standard Hoppe's solvent and oil will keep your guns in tiptop shape for a lifetime.........I've spent many days hunting in the snow or rain and as long as you get them dried out thoroughly and recoated with lube once dry you won't have a problem...................Same reason the tools I used when I worked in Structural Steel still look great even though they've seen a thousand times more use than the average homeowner tools ever will.........Simple cleaning and lubing will keep tools and guns in great working order for a lifetime.

I learned from my father and uncles to pronounce Hoppes correctly 40 years ago. How did they and their friends know then, with no internet, and so many today don’t? Probably from speaking to the counter men at the gun shops we frequented. They probably learned the proper pronunciation from the Hoppes reps they dealt with.

Great video. I rotate a little among gun cleaners and lubes but the one's Ive always used (and prob always will) are the ones that have been around a long time. Not gonna switch to some of the newer ones who claim to have revolutionized gun maintenance personally. The next new one might be called "Breakcleanzefreethrough." And leaning towards just going with the best CLP since Im getting a little more lazy. I've always thought Breakfree was prob the best all around but was toxic and needed to be more careful with it. As opposed to Ballistol, which might not be quite as good but is very good and doesnt harm anything. Can apply it to my stocks, and furniture, lol. Might be coming to a point where I have these two only, depending on application, and maybe a copper solvent for rifles. And prob something else just in case, lol.

Be warned tho... if your friends try it and know you make it? They will come up with every excuse in the book for why they need a quart or two of yours and can't make their own.
