One of the few games I played a ton of when I was you get that I now have almost zero recollection of. Enjoyed seeing you dive through the game’s highs and lows, which brought back some great memories! Really wish we got Battlefront III 😪
I used to play Renegade Squadron online back in the day and one build I distinctly remember that was sorta powerful were guys who used the remote rockets. They would camp at ammo droids at their spawn and basically just spam rockets, which usually took out someone in 1-2 hits. I liked using sniper and stealth builds mostly, but one I particularly liked was the flying chaingunner. My flying chaingunner build consisted of the Chaingun, a jetpack and max health. Great video as always. I’ll never forget in grade school I got to try this game on my buddies PSP, my family, my friends, and I were all obsessed with BF2. So I was instantly hooked and wanted it. Only issue was I didn’t have a PSP, I had a DS. Few months (or longer no clue) later. I saw Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron for the DS I was so excited thinking I finally got what I wanted. It was nothing like battlefront, maybe other than that it was good for a DS game, but I hated it and remember spending hours past when I was supposed to be asleep stuck on part. Glad I got to at least see what I missed.
Man, i played this game so much back in the day. It was so good, and the fact i could go into space from any map and land back on land was insane and made me confused as to how a modern game cant have this when a simple handheld could! I miss this, might look for my psp to play it a bit today.
I think it's already technically possible. Renegade squadron was a niche title so I think they did not bother too much about actually splitting where the action takes places. In game with huge player like BF2 from 2017 a feature like this would split the community because there are people who would adore it and others hate it. Would be cool to just have one map where this is possible though. However power of starfighters would have to be toned down when in atmosphere since a single skilled player can already win the match all by himself in a star fighter imagine 5+ if them raining down fire on your team or the other way around.
As always love your reviews! It's cool to see an older more niche game like this and even more cool that is actually was decent! Clearly still some down sides but you did a good job making a clear review of both sides :)
For me, I loved Renegade Squadron. It was Battlefront 2 lite done right. I loved having the ability to just pick up and play it and the B-Wing and TIE Defender were welcome, awesome editions, along with hero ships.
I had this game along with the white Darth Vader PSP when I was a kid. Unfortunately my cousin broke my PSP and lost the game but I just ordered both of them and I will get to play this game in its full glory again soon!
I’ve heard whispers about “renegade squadron” for years now but never actually took the time to figure out what it was. As a long time battlefront 2 enjoyer and HUGE star wars fan i’m honestly embarrassed that this is my first time seeing the game. definitely isn’t talked about enough. this game looks like a lot of fun. specifically the class customization and the galactic conquest. just from what i’ve seen here the class customization looks like so much fun, especially customizing your character which also affects your teammates. plus i think the risk version of galactic conquest sounds like a ton of fun
I’ve been watching your videos for the past week and for some reason I haven’t been subbed but this definitely earned it bc this game is so special to me
Ayo finally glad you back at it again with these reviews, between the streams I also have been enjoying them. Again as just for recommendations with regards to singleplayer titles: I'd say if you enjoy turn based games (with a bit of a harder steep learning curve) Darkest Dungeon is my personal recommendation for the channel as you really don't see many people talk about it.
so, i played this game back when it came out, and multiplayer online, and i can tell you the carbonite gun was fantastic at dealing with cheating players, there was a cheat they could use which gave them [negative health] so basically NOTHING could kill them. however, the carbonite gun. froze them, so unless they used the bubble shield. they would actually have to leave the match because they had no health the carbonite would just perma freeze them.
Got the Vader psp slim and game on launch for Christmas and really loved it. The hero star fighters and customization was really inspired, especially considering how Dice would borrow those aspects a decade later.
Mostly, I just liked it because it had internet multiplayer and SWBF2 on PSP didn't. Oh and you could glitch the credits idea and equip whatever you wanted and yes, it worked in multiplayer. All things considered though, I didn't dislike this one or Elite Squadron but I just kept wanting to play either SWBF2 or Force Unleashed. But I still kept it handy for internet multiplayer on the go. I still even have my original UMD.
I miss this game and also it was on the ps Vita as well I still owe the game on the Vita as my psp version has long since been lost I'm going to go play it now
24:54 Ventress and Kit Fisto are in the DLC for Battlefront 2 on Xbox and will be in the Battlefront Classic Collection, but it's nice that they were in Renegade after being cut from all but the Xbox version of Battlefront 2.
Just found your channel! And I gotta say, great video! It was very basic, the editing was relaxed, there was no music, nothing and that's not a criticism. It actually made it really relaxing to watch and perfect content to watch just before going to sleep. I enjoyed it quite a lot. Especially because I never got to play this one and it looks way better than I gave it credit for. Do you think you'll ever cover Elite Squadron? Oh and congratulations on becoming a dad, by the way! That was just adorable. ❤
I certainly appreciate it! Funny, this year I'm experimenting a bit by adding music into my videos, since so many people have recommended that to me. Yes, I'll be covering Elite Squadron. Might be 3 or 4 videos away, but it'll get done.
I'd only read/heard about Battlefront-esc ports over to PSP, Nintendo etc. and seen mods porting them to PC BF2, and assumed they were just different versions of Battlefront (2004-2005) ported with minor changes. I had NO idea how different and frankly awesome they are. No doubt if I knew what a PSP was and what was on it I'd have gotten it, Star Wars Battlefront 2 is hands down my favorite video game of all time after all. I appreciate the coverage of these older Star Wars titles they really spike my personal interest, and I'll have to get myself a PSP now. Renegade Squadron seems like a spiritual successor /maybe more of a spinoff from the first 2 Battlefronts so its right up my alley. That Grievous moment made me lol, and the Vader one too. Also I'm sure this game can be emulated onto PC or Xbox, I've been emulating PS2 ports seamlessly, PSP should be available as well. What a treat it is to enjoy older generations/titles, glad I'd started on older hardware to appreciate games beyond graphical fidelity, and being popular. I feel that kids that didn't start with older hardware don't get to appreciate older games which would be a shame. When I'm to have kids I'd definitely start them with ps2 era gaming minimum. And I didn't even know this Dork was married, congratulations on your baby man!
22:05 Funnily enough looking at the Legends and Canon pictures of Sullust the Legends one appears more in line with what's seen in EA's Battlefront on the surface but the map for Renegade Squadron takes place somewhere underground, away from lavaflows, and with water of all things. This raises many interesting implications for the planet's biosphere, geography, and overall environmental variety on the planet.
im surprised you didnt learn the equipment screen exploit where you could reload your weapon instantly when at a capture point! Good video though love the nostalgia
26:01 I LOVE how much of a sliding scale Lightsaber and Melee can be with Star Wars games, on one end we have Renegade Squadron and having to practically be so close you'd be breathing INTO them and there's no real feedback and on the other we have stuff like Jedi Outcast and Academy (I am not doing the Dark Forces joke tonight) where Melee is a frantic and insane flurry of motion and attacks where the slightest mistake can mean the difference between loosing your head or not. Also IIRC Elite Squadron had a decent Melee system.
So ill have to do some digging through a closet. I distinctly remember playing this game on PSP back in the day, and then i also had SWBF2 on PSP as well that had ground to space. That one was fun
FINALLY. Jesus Christ sometimes i feel like nobody knows about the existence of this game, even tho its really great and unique. People always return to the reboot battlefronts and the classic pandemic ones, but never this one for some reason. actually i know the reason, its stuck on a console barely anyone remembers.
fun fact: My cousin and I only had one copy between us. We found out that you can actually keep swapping the game back and forth after every death and still play against each other, but its not online. 1v1
On Boz Pity, using the Rebel tank will allow to destroy the AT-AT faster and go in one of its blind spots, just shot it in the legs and after a few shot it will go down, taking 50 units of the Empire as well. Only downside is that AT-AT always respawn after a certain matter of time so whatever you're doing you're forced to stop, go grab the tank and repeat. The pattern it uses is also very simple, it moves from command post to command post and can't go further as long as the one in front of it isn't claimed by the Empire (or if it reach the other side of the map of course). Oh and pro tips, there is actually a glitch you can use to have unlimited credits but you must trigger it online before switching offline. If done correctly you can have the chaingun, Orbital Strike, Health level 3, Speed level 3, Capture rate level 3, jetpack, Rage (to do even more damage) wrist rockets etc. the only negative point of it's method beside only being able to trigger online and that you cannot change your loadout anymore, if you try, the game will register that you are far above 100 credits. The blocked path of Korriban is sadly only available in the campaign and it's basically a hangar with a lambda class shuttle land there
What a very timely review with the rerelease of the original Star Wars battlefronts coming out soon😂 You should try out elite squadron i used to play that game nonstop. It had multiplayer and I’m not sure if I was playing with bots or real people because I was a dumb kid that couldn’t figure out anything lol. but I guess I was playing multiplayer with people because if you went up to any of your teammates and like danced around them everybody kept changing their weapons really fast and back in the day I thought it was weird and I thought that’s just how people say hello or something but looking back on it now it made it look like you were JOing lmao
I hope you do a video on elite squadron at some point, if I remember right it was the psp port for battlefront 3 since that was the only version done before battlefront 3 got cancelled
Ok so I’m halfway through the video and will finish later so you may get to it, but a way to cheese the loaf out system is go online and edit your load out there, then set whatever you want regardless of credits, then while still in the load out selection turn off your LAN. It’ll boot you back to offline but will keep your load out selections. If you want to change for any reason you will need to go back into an online selection
There was a method to get all the high value equipment and perks even if it went over 100. You would go over to multiplayer and make a map and play it. When in the map you would get all the high value stuff and then turn off the little switch on top of the psp for wifi. The game will kick you out but when you go to single player skirmishes you will have all the equipment.
Been playing a lot of this game on Steam Deck recently, binding the control stick to the face buttons works well for the alternate control scheme. The camera automatically centering is an issue though.
Best Battlefront game on console by far!!!!!!!! It's criminal that it hasn't gotten a remaster. It's easily better than Elite Squadron, even though Elite Squadron has the space to ground maps and vice versa, it just never felt as polished. Renegade Squadron also has the much better Galactic Conquest while also having much better maps and heroes. The class creation system was also pretty novel and we still don't really have anything similar in current Battlefront (the card system isn't the same).
Honestly this not getting a console port because of the behind the scenes drama that been reported to have happened in the mid 2000s. But nowadays lucasarts is all about ported/remasters nowadays, I’m betting if the classic collection sell well they will add renegade and elite squadron to it.
35:18 Funnily enough in both Disney Canon and Legends Kessel IS in fact a proper planet... Well as proper as a misshapen, almost demonic spider infested, hostile hunk of rock with a barely breathable atmosphere CAN be considered a planet...

The blocked path of Korriban is sadly only available in the campaign and it's basically a hangar with a lambda class shuttle land there
Happ birthday dorkaxe
You can easily play Renegade squadron by installing PPSSPP and setting up the game itself inside the application.
I'm trying to. Keeps giving me black screen, after the Akbar mission😢. I'm starting to hate how unreliable emulators still are.
@@raynortownly7098it means the rom you downloaded was probably corrupted. Or sum maybe download from new site or retry downloading.
So before its time! loved this game and my PSP!
YESSS SOMEONE FINALLY GIVING THE PSP GAMES THE LOVE THEY DESERVE❤
28:00 Surprisingly the BEST version of The Force Unleashed alongside the Wii and PS2.
I still have my psp and it still runs this nicely. Amazing game
7:26 I did not expect the ship to just morph into the Millenium Falcon.. I thought you'd just switch hero within the vehicle haha
This bf2 and freedom unite were my holy trinity on the psp
What a very timely review with the rerelease of the original Star Wars battlefronts coming out soon😂
You should try out elite squadron i used to play that game nonstop.
The Squadron is indeed renegading
The controls sound really innovative.
It can be used in modern games.
Man i used to love this game but after i got battlefront 2 on psp i never went back to this one. I think bf2 is just a much better game tbh
I remember playing this all the time when i had a PSP
Spended so many hours in the Online mode. It was full of Orbital Strike cheater but it was awesome.
"Say-lu-kami"
Been playing a lot of this game on Steam Deck recently, binding the control stick to the face buttons works well for the alternate control scheme. The camera automatically centering is an issue though.
27:25 Vader aggressively levitates and rapidly approaches your position.
Renegade Squadrons free form loadouts is what I wish Battlefield 2042 would have done with it changing from classes
The class creation system was also pretty novel and we still don't really have anything similar in current Battlefront (the card system isn't the same).
i bought a jailbroken version for my PSP, then i bought it again for 15 bucks on the Vita. such a fun game man I miss it. might reinstall

Nah, you got it right the first time. That's how they pronounced it in the Knights of the Old Republic games from what I recall.
I can’t wait till you review Jedi survivor
I wish they would port this game to PC i loved playing this back in the day on the way to school
Game is shockingly fun.Played it o PC emulator at 60 fps at high resolution. Wish this and Elite had HD ports.
Enjoyed the reference to episode 3
Can we have a Star Wars Battlefront II Remaster mod for PSP review? Also, congratulations to the kid! xD
Crazy, but I remember loving this as a kid.
Somehow Dorkaxe returned to Star Wars… 🎉
Luke going all Leeroy Jenkins on that AT-AT made me lose it XD
Hey, where’s my Battlefront Portable Collection, Aspyr?
Keep Aspyr's dirty hands out of my games please.
Congratulations on becoming a new Dad!!
I can't wait to get a emulator and check this out
Renegade Squadron was Awesome
classic af played it on The Darth Vader PSP
35:09 The Tie Defender though...
Thank you for this video. I loved this game as a kid this was really nostalgic. Could you cover elite squadron too?
Absolutely boss.
@@Dorkaxelooking forward to that video. I spent so much time on these games when I was younger. Playing late at night and hiding my psp when my parents came in to check on me haha. Love your channel btw. Keep up all the great work :)
I loved the psp games so much
I loved this game. Never had battlefront 1 or 2 so this was all I had 😂along with good ol kotor
21:24 You got it right the first time.
