It functionally was awful, as it couldn't even get down to a good temp to cool down drinks, AND I didn't get the season pass. I was so blinded by BATTLEFRONT that I threw caution to the wind. Hero Hunt used to be even worse before they changed it a few months after launch. At launch, the player who got the last hit on the hero became the hero next. There was no damage tallying or anything. It was just a dumb kill stealing competition with no skill involved.

    • @deaconpoole7577
      @deaconpoole7577 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Not only that, but then after the initial version, DICE for some reason had a literal Wheel Of Fortune, based on how much damage the top 3 players did, but all of your damage progress and the size of your slot on the wheel was removed after a new hero was selected. So basically, you could do the most amount of damage of all the players, STILL lose and not get picked, and then have to do it all over again

    The fact that we had to deal with EA as the sole publisher for SW games for nearly a decade was absolutely insulting. Only 4 triple A releases and 2 of them were soulless cashgrabs, and the amount of games that were cancelled is actually unreal.

    I remember getting over this game pretty quick at launch, just the total lack of content, basically no offline play, the fact you needed a season pass... still less egregious as Battlefront 2017 at launch but a pretty stark reminder of how the game industry loves to sell you half baked products then charge you for the rest of the experience that you should have gotten in the first place. Holy shit, I can't believe I put up with this game all those years ago. I bought a Playstation 4 back in late 2015, and this was my first multiplayer game I ever really played. In hindsight I just find it amazing that I put up with how bad the game was, considering the extremely apparent flaws even I knew about nearly 6 years ago. I played the game at launch and became my favorite game that I would play nearly every day up until the Death Star DLC. To this day I still prefer it over the sequel, despite the fact that the sequel is a better game in nearly every possible way, probably because of how good 12 year old me was at this game. I put up with the season pass, the DLC content, the base game content, the EE4, the overpowered heroes, the underpowered heroes, the bugs, the glitches, everything. But this game was to me how Halo 3 was to hundreds of thousands of kids back in 2007. I wish I was a kid again, I can't enjoy games like I used to anymore.

    When this game dropped, the graphics were definitely it's highest selling point what with contributing to the immersion factor of the game. When it dropped, I had never seen a game that looked so graphically stunning before and I distinctly remember this being the first time I really felt a new frontier was being pushed toward photorealism in gaming. I remember asking my dad to buy it for me on launch from my local gamestop. I was sitting in my pre cal class thinking nonstop about getting home to play ot finally after having been impressed with the beta. And it did its job for a while but the amount of content available at launch you could cycle through in about 3 hours I think, which is what I did. Then, all the spirit I initially had for the game vanished. Which was especially odd, since I am an enormous fan of Star Wars and that was the best looking game I had ever played. But there wasn't any pretense at all in my lack of interest at that point. I blankly just did not feel motivated to keep playing at all. The appetite would come up again every so often when the dlc would be made free for promotional events but aside from that, I learned an invaluable lesson in what to expect of the EA Star Wars product. When BF2 was announced and released, it was the first time in my life I distinctly remember being completely and utterly ambivalent about a Star Wars game. The news of the state of the lootboxes at the time was coming out and the marketing toward the prequels in my eyes was utterly disingenuous with an insulting paucity of content that actually represented that era on release. The game was in such a skeletal state that more than just ambivalence, I felt actual disgust for the product they were peddling. And that was the first time that not only did i feel ambivalence, but that i received a Star Wars product's release with actual hostility. I didn't pick that game up on launch and waited till it was on sale for 5 dollars around the time that the Geonosis update was being released. The game at its final state before being abandoned is still bare minimum what should have been delivered on launch and I will never forget the travesty EA made out of Star Wars under its control.

    • @Justacheese
      @Justacheese 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I never picked up either of the star wars battlefront games because I was already boycotting EA at the time.
      But I get how you feel. Mainly because EA ruined the need for speed games. That series used to be one of my favorite franchises and now its been abandoned.
      EA tends to do that with whatever they can get their grubby little hands on.
      Also thank you so much for including proper comma's and periods in your comment. Since its pretty long, it would have been a nightmare to read if it was all one big blob of text.

Towards the end of one of our classes, I actually convinced my teacher, one that I’d come to see as a good mentor and friend, to play one of the co-op missions with me. He picked the Beggar’s canyon mission so he was my wing-mate in that short but sweet X-wing based mission. For me it’s a mixed bag to be honest.
      2015 has a lot more life and personality than 2017 even to this day.
      2017 has far better hero combat and balancing/vehicles and the reinforcement classes are cool. Not to mention how much content there is.
      Basically to keep it somewhat brief, the arcade like power up system in 2015 is fun. 2015 has two modes I’d play over any 2017 any day. (Cargo and Walker assault) And most importantly. The “base troopers” gameplay felt wayyyyy better with the variety of weapons and star card loadouts!
      You want to be a sniper who also plays tanky? Sure!
      You want to be a guns a blazing crazy guy who goes out with explosive shot and tons of grenades? Sure!
      You want to be a bit more of a support player with Dioxis grenade and healing droid thing? Sure!
      2017’s major flaw is it’s restrictive class system regular trooper gameplay, I’m always trying to become a hero/vehicle/reinforcement in 2017 battlefront because frankly… I don’t 100% like any of the classes and how they work.
      So in 2017 I have to be patient and wait a few minutes of boring base gameplay before I can pick a hero and get to the actual good stuff.
      Where in 2015 I actually liked the base trooper gameplay, possibly more than the heros.
      In conclusion, if you love hero gameplay above all else. 2017 is easily the pick for you. Hop onto Heros V Villains and play that constantly.
      If you want to enjoy things other than the special classes of the game (or ships but I don’t like ships even though they are much better in 2017)
      Pick 2015 any day.

    This is actually a fantastic review, however I spot one issue. I feel like the experience would be skewered if you are purposefully trying to complete the hutt contracts one after another quickly for a review, however you could argue that some players do this already so that shouldn’t be a problem in the first place.

    I’ll let Darth Vader being Lukes brother slide for this time, amazing review! I acually enjoyed this game more than I thought I’d would. My main game mode was Walker Assault and I got pretty good at it. It was waaay more forgiving than it’s sequel, witch by my book, gorgeous as it might be, is still a pay to win of epic proportions. Thank you for the video and the memories.

      Ummmm......? Have you played battlefront 2 in the last 2 years? They removed loot boxes, you don't have to pay to unlock a hero and the progression was completely reworked. The only thing you can buy with credits is cosmetics and even then you have the celebration edition which gives you all the cosmetics (except for a few that can't be unlocked through credits) the game is almost a masterpiece

    Honestly, I personally prefer Battlefront 1 2015 over Battlefront II 2017.
    The "Star Wars" feeling and atmosphere was never captured better than in this game. Yes, the game is restricted to the Original Trilogy, but it holds a very special place in my heart. It is my favorite SW game ever. I never had the same amount of fun in Battlefront 2, although, it certainly improved some aspects. I personally still prefered the overall gameplay. I just miss the classes and I even prefer the Pick-ups over the battle point system.
    I elaborated on my opinion about Battlefront 2015 in the comments section of your Battlefront II 2017 Critique.

    Never played Battlefront 2015, saw the trailers when I was younger and realized before it release that it wouldn't be that good or like original I grew up on and never bought it. Game came out and I was right, but I still watch videos about every now and then. I think you'll enjoy battlefront 2 a little more. Game play was a lot better bringing back classes but new problems arrived in the loot box fiasco and Battle Points. Take as much time as you need for the video

    Amazing game. Much better than the second one. I still prefer the og battlefront from 2003 though. Once you gave this game your time to perfect the controls and power ups paired with the jetpack it will reward you. I'm max rank on all platforms. Battlefront 2 reboot time to kill is way to high. Leading to very boring gameplay. You cannot pop off without playing as a hero constantly. And I'd argue they can be more op in battlefront 2 actually.

    Ngl, to this day this game is still one of my favorite multiplayer games I've ever had the chance to play while it was active. The gunplay was fluid (Battlefront 2's gunplay often feels wonky and bloomy), the maps were fantastic (almost every battlefront 2 map has lanes and ends up in a funnel in Galactic Assault), I enjoyed the freedom to make my own kit, and the effects/backgrounds/map events (Super Star Destroyer crashing/Fights above) are all phenomenal and add to the environment (Battlefront 2 can't even make a proper explosion outside of a cutscene). There are things BF2 did better like the spawn screen vehicle/hero system and having more content (expected from a sequel game) but the core gameplay was gutted IMO.

    • @locustboy8448
      @locustboy8448 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep, the freedom of choice was amazing in 2015. And wayyyy more weapons was a massive positive for me personally, unlike the OP’s opinion in the video I loved the massive diversity of star cards and weapons. When the DLC was getting released I always was more interested in the new blasters/star cards than the new maps and game modes. I’ve grown to not dislike Battlefront 2 2017 as much as I used to, but there’s still a quality to 2015 that is special and unique to this day!
      I even loved the ridiculous hero pickups and vehicle pickups. Battlefront 2015 isn’t/wasn’t a competitive gaming experience in any way. Tons of cheese and ridiculousness. But that’s part of what made it AMAZING. Not to mention 2015 Cargo>All 2017 game modes imo.
      Back at the game’s height I could enjoy endless hours of Cargo or Walker Assault, when 2017 dropped it took me like maybe a week before I got bored of the core gameplay.
      In battlefront 2, you almost never hear people loving the core “classes” and for a reason. They’re kind of boring. You’re always trying to go for a hero/vehicle/reinforcement. And while I agree all of those plus space battles are WAY better in 2017. The core gameplay aka regular troopers is seriously lacking in the 2017 version and never really got addressed.

I really like that there is a very spiritual theme through the star wars story as it gives what looks like a normal shooter a bit more depth. I hold a lot of nostalgia for this game weirdly. I had just finished university and it was the first time-sink game I focused on which probably played a part. I knew it was barebones and like a pleb, I even bought the DLC. I found the basic, arcade-style very fun but I remember sitting on my chair one night and I just hit a wall with this game. There was zero progression & satisfaction from the same scenarios and maps. A very strange game. I fell into the mindlessness of it which is unlike me to be honest as I typically prefer feedback in terms of progression, story and interesting gameplay.
    Great video.

      Imagine seeing you here!
      I loved this game back at its height. It’s by 0 means a competitive gaming experience but that’s not what it’s for at all either. Battlefront 2017 may be a better game in almost every measurable way yet I find myself having a lot more fun with 2015, apart from hero/ships gameplay which is admittedly far superior in the 2017 battlefront. I also like 2017’s reinforcement class.
      Basically, 2015 felt way better as a “regular trooper” while 2017’s class system sounds interesting at face value, it gets old very quick as a base gameplay experience (at least for me) where I could play hours upon hours of Cargo as a regular class troop in battlefront 2015 and never get bored.
      The endless amount of weapons and star card loadouts in 2015 is just plain fun, especially when the game had more (and less experienced) players.
      Love the shiny hunting man! Keep it up!

    AAA game publishers are not concerned with making a good game. They are concerned with making a profitable game. If a profitable game also happens to be good, that's the cherry on top. For the last probably 10 or so years game publishers have been getting more and more terrible in their design and practices, ordering studios to do the absolute bare minimum possible to sell a game and setting ridiculous deadlines in which to do it.
    Consumers are just as much to blame for this behavior because they keep rewarding it with pre-orders and microtransactions. It's like every major release in a major franchise with few exceptions breaks the previous record held by the previous major release in the franchise. Studios do not care about your feelings, they only care about transferring money from your wallet into their bank account and as long as that keeps happening, no amount of complaining will result in changed behavior.

    I think most of your complaints come from being bad at the game. People look back at the old games with nostalgia because they played singleplayer and not in multiplayer lobbies.
    starting your video with a montage of you being out of position (and moving very slowly, basically begging to get killed) and then dying to a hero (as if the heroes in the older games weren't unbalanced) does not do well for you

There would be no reason for you to think me being "bad" would influence my complaints if you got that far.

    • @DaDaPieGaming
      @DaDaPieGaming 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Dorkaxe i will admit that I commented around 20 minutes in and did finish watching the video. I still think your initial critiques (around half of the video) are very tired. I am also glad that you corrected your mistake in earlier videos talking about the graphics of this game. It would be very stupid to pretend that the new games don't at least look very good. I'm just sick and tired on the endless ragging on this game- and I mean I get it. In 2014 I had the same complaints. But that was 2014. And after I played it for an extended period of time I came to the conclusion that it was nowhere near as bad as many initially said it was. Solid 3/5 game maybe even higher, in my opinion.

    Great video. I don’t like the idea of having to unlock weapons, especially weapon classes in games. Sure, you can have some unlockables but the core weapon gameplay should be completely available from first launch. One thing I really miss about old shooters. Everyone is on equal footing, it comes down to skill. Even in Halo, everyone can gain access to the weapons it’s just a battle to control them. Old Battlefront had great gameplay that was enough to carry it without the desire to grind for unlockables. Mastering classes is extremely satisfying. This will come down to personal preferences but I like to fire up a game and just play, not worry about my rank or what the next unlockable is, then get pissed when it’s taking forever to unlock it. I did enjoy my time with Battlefront 2015, it was visually stunning and a very aesthetic experience, and had its gameplay moments. As a product though, it is a poor game, nowhere near enough content at launch, and never enough single player. I also found heroes to be rather clunky in this game, other than Fett. Didn’t use the DLC heroes though. I also miss the way vehicles worked in older Battlefront, especially 2004. Fighting against a rebel landspeeder was epic and the battle to seize them online was always enjoyable. Again, the old game was engaging enough that it didn’t need extra fluff to bring you back. It’s a shame we will never see a game on the caliber of the original Battlefront.

    You're right that this game should not have been called battlefront for what it represents. BUT you didn't include the steadfast communities that stayed through the now 6 years. I don't know if it's was because you were on ps4 or if you just didn't know, but the community offers tournaments for high end players and it host lobbies to the DLC so people can clear contracts and have fun with these sadly exclusive modes.
    I disagree with you on the note that it should have had conquest, ( I know it is called battlefront and was just for money ) but a game that offers so much speed and momentum doesn't play well with so much freedom. If you were to take the new battlefront 2 and only have jet troopers it would be chaos, the choice to make more linear game modes I think was smart to keep the action centered and not spreading the players in the match too thin with high mobility the game offers.
    Some of the game modes the game introduced were also frowned upon, the one getting the most hate was probably the starfighter mode, as it didn't feature space battles unless you had money for DLC. Other game modes were on the other hand praised like walker assault and hero hunt, and dice was framed for being lacy not adding them to battlefront 2. I will agree that hero hunt did favor high end players and the way it ends, as you pointed out, is bad. Though the core of feeling strong against an opposition that keeps coming at you in greater numbers can be fun and a challenge ( + Boosk and Vader are by far better than palps ).
    I sound like a big fanboy, and I am. I played against "pros" in some tournaments and have over 700 hours of active playtime. I know the game ain't nice to newcomers or the average player, but to the senior player like myself I find it fun and engaging to have that little minigame with the reload, even though I know the timings by memory it still gives a little depth to an otherwise bland shooting experience. Some of the weapons also has specific patters to make them shoot faster, and the freedom the loadouts gives is fun to play around with.
    I again stress, this game should not have been called battlefront, I very much agree.
    Still I find the game amazing :)
