Imagine a bunch of kids under 10 years old outside playing and singing, "Come a little bit closer, you're my kind of man..." Yeah, we did.

I’m only 21, so I wasn’t around at that time, but I also sang this song and that line as a kid. I loved 50’s-early 60’s music as a kid. It wasn’t until I was a teenager I really got into the mid 60’s (Beatles) and future!

When I was a 15 year old working at the A&W drive in restaurant I got to take my 18 year old co-worker Erica to go see Jay and the Americans perform at Waterloo Lutheran University. (We were both young, innocent and naïve.)
Anyway, I was so impressed that I scraped together my nickels and dimes and ran out to buy their LP, the black one with gold lettering and wore it out on a cheap seabreeze record player.

This was a great band from the 60's-70's. The lead singer had a powerful voice. Some of their hits were "She Cried", "Come A Little Bit Closer", "Cara Mia", "Only In America" etc. In 1969, they recorded an album of their favorite oldies called "Sands Of Time", which included the hit "This Magic Moment" (The Drifters). They also had a hit with "Walkin' In The Rain" (The Ronettes).

Love Jay Black( lead singer) Cara Mia ( Now & Then) in this video Jay Black, the lead singer Jay Black sings this song when he was young in 1965, then again almost 50 years later still sounding the same. Jay wanted to be an opera singer at one time . Other songs : Some Enchanted Evening, She Cried, This Magic Moment, Walking In The Rain, Crying, Only In America, and many more👍👍💯👏

The band began in the late 50's called The Harborlites, with Jay Traynor at lead vocals their, big hit in 1962 was, "She cried' that reached number 5 on the charts. Traynor left the group soon after when other songs didn't do so well. In comes David Black who agreed to change his first name to Jay. They put out more top ten hits with Jay Black singing lead.
