  • Introducing the character "Shorty". "Shorty" is a Lao-American former member of the Chinese-American Fuk Ching gang then later crossed over to the Ghost Shadows gang from NYC'S Chinatown during the 80s and 90s. In this 1st part interview he talks about his homicide case in the 90s, being one of few Asians in prison, and all the rival Asian gangs sticking together in prison.

    Great content it’s always good to hear from a individual from a unfamiliar gang. It’s sad the way how New York State jerk him and charge him as an adult when they should have charged him as a Youthful Offender (YO).

    Personally, I like the Chinese brothers because they’re humble and mind their own business. And when they befriend you, you got a friend for life in most of them. Like my Chinese brother Johnny lee.

    I was a adolescent in Rikers Island in the 80s. I met a Chinese brother named Kim from one of those gangs and he was saying I would be a good member. I was surprised because I didn’t think they took in outsiders. But we became very good friends. I’ve never forgotten him. He could kick the ceiling and no one beat him in arm wrestling.

    This interview should be played & shown in schools to preach kids today the rights & wrongs of being vulnerable teens. After listening to this interview, you can envision what he went through & his regrets but yet he had to pay the price. Like he said, if you see a problem, just walk away. It’s not even worthwhile which may have you end up in jail doing time. This is a great heartfelt interview indeed!

      They have been doing that for decades. Kids/young adults don’t learn. I guess they stopped trying because a lot of ppl found the program controversial. The “program” that was out back then was called Scared Straight. If I remember correctly the show even had a follow up. I think it was Scared Straight 20 years later. Life is a struggle for ALL groups, nationalities, ethnicities. Some more than others though. 😭😭

      The American justice system is so fucked up. A 15 yo who kills someone during a fight is still a 15 year and you’re supposed to take that into consideration during the sentencing otherwise there’s no point having different laws for minors. I’ve seen so many murder cases where adults get less than 15 years.

      @@morenitomoreno1282not if these are gangsters, all sympathy goes out the window. he may seem reformed now but back in the day these were "shoot first, ask questions later"guys. all the people he terrorized on Chinatown weren't crying for him

      @morenitomoreno1282 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jojotwice8918 Again, then what’s the point of having separate laws for minors? It’s not about "sympathy" it’s about pragmatism. The US has the highest recidivism rate out of all the developed countries yet its the country with the harshest justice system. The "tough on crime" approach is counter productive. Nobody is saying any kid who kills someone should be left alone. The point is, you can’t judge a 15 year old the same way you judge a 25 year old. Just like you can’t judge someone who’s mentally challenged the same way you judge a sane person

    They don't move you cause you get too comfortable. You get moved around to different prisons so that your family doesn't move into the area around the state prison..there's a certain demographic around those prisons..I'll let you figure it out from there.

      yes, with your phone, laptops, maybe even drugs lol, etc... try locking yourself up in your room for 1 week, without any of that! just you and maybe a few books to read. 7 days. good luck.

      A week ain't so bad, I know a dude who spent a couple years in solitary that is when you really start to lose it unless you're very mentally strong. He said he use to stall the guards as long as possible just so he could have human contact no bs
